Recycled and repurposed sure are the buzzwords when it comes to home décor, what with everyone wanting to do their bit for a cleaner and greener world.
This includes revamping old furniture into interesting statement pieces to add personality to their homes, to spending quality time on do-it-yourself (DIY) décor; this has led to the some fascinating ideas taking shape at homes.
For instance, an old brass kettle as a faucet in bathroom, or a small bucket transforming into a washbasin, a large steel box painted and used as a coffee table.
This is the beauty of DIYs, it helps you go all out with your creativity. There’s more, so here are some ideas that you could try at home.
Birdcage decor
Use an extra large birdcage in the corner of your room to store books or other nick knacks. Go as adventurous as you can dare to.
Vintage trunk as décor item
Transform an old antique trunk by hand painting it or using decoupage to give it a new look. You could also get a carpenter to attach four basic leg and then add a cushion and upholstery and make it into a stylish trunk sofa.
Ladder as a rack
Give your old ladder an antique-finish with white paints and then sandpapering them. Make sure that the steps are wide. Prop it against a wall and use the steps to display your books or knickknacks.
Tire as a flower pot
Use an old tire as a flowering pot. Place some planting soil and stick a flowering plant into it to create a funky décor for your outdoors or balcony.
Ladle candleholder
If you have an old silver ladle, or even a wooden one, lying around, use it as a candle stand. Hang the ladle’s handle to a nail and place a tea light candle on the scoop side to create a chic light source; the shiny silver will reflect the light too.
Bucket chandelier
Turn that rustic metal bucket upside down and hand a large bulb inside to turn it into a chandelier for your garden balcony. And viola! you have a simple handcrafted object — this vintage ceiling lamp.
Old tire as an ottoman or an indoor swing
Take an old tire and some thick string. Stick one end of the string on the tire and then wrap it properly around it. Keep sticking the string on the tire till you have completely covered it. Use hot glue gun. Place in your living room and use it as an ottoman. Or you could create an indoor swing (see pic)!
