Whether you’re decorating on a budget, trying to be a little more conscious of your consumption, or simply love the thrill of hunting for those amazing, one-of-a-kind finds, thrift-store shopping can be a fun and smart way to create a signature aesthetic for your home. In addition to saving money by thrifting, you can also feel good about keeping items from ending up in a landfill by giving them a second life as part of your decor. But how do you get the best deals, what kinds of pieces should you hunt for and how can you style them without your own home looking like a thrift store? We did some digging to find out.

The difference between thrift stores and consignment shops
Consignment and antique shops are great, but they tend to be pricier because their collections are curated. These stores do all the hunting down and fixing up for you, and that service is offset via higher price tags. While consignment shops are more likely to have highly sought after antiques from pedigreed brands, you can still certainly find hidden gems at nearly any thrift store — you just may have to put in more effort to find what you’re looking for. Balance the odds of what you want being there with the price range you’re willing to pay when deciding where to shop.

Getting what you need while giving back to the community
Many of your favorite causes run thrift shops to help fund their programs and services. Prime Thrift near Fair Park benefits American Veterans (AMVETS), Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and other local and national charitable organizations, while Out of the Closet in Oak Lawn benefits the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Genesis Women’s Shelter, a nonprofit that provides safety, shelter and support for women and children who have experienced domestic violence, operates two thrift stores: one in Oak Lawn and another in South Oak Cliff. There are four Soul’s Harbor locations throughout the metroplex, with proceeds going toward its programs to help men break the cycle of homelessness and addiction. Some of these shops even have exclusive relationships with estate liquidators, increasing your chances of finding treasures among their wares.

If you’re looking for a bit more than just decor, check out your local ReStore, which benefits Habitat for Humanity. There, you can find actual building materials, such as tile, cabinets, wood flooring, windows, doors or even vintage brick. In addition to these, they also have plenty of new and vintage home furnishings, large appliances and more. With 10 locations across D-FW, it’s a convenient alternative to big-box stores when shopping for your next home design project.
Choose your shopping days wisely
For donation-based thrift stores, Mondays and Tuesdays are typically the best days to shop, because most people tend to drop off items early in the week after spending the weekend cleaning. Signing up for emails is a great way to stay on top of the latest finds and deals, but there’s just no substitute for going in regularly. It works the same with searching online, whether it’s eBay, Craigslist, or Facebook Marketplace. “I’m a huge fan of Facebook Marketplace” says Whitney Marsh, an interior designer and business owner who furnished her Oak Cliff coffee shop, B-Side, with thrifted finds. “I also really love Souls Harbor in Waxahachie,” Marsh notes.

Have a strategy before you start shopping
There are two ways to go about hunting vintage pieces. Either have a piece or project in mind and know what you want to pay for it, or be able to spot a good deal. This can involve researching brands, pieces, and eras to be able to find your ideal mix of quality pieces that aren’t in demand. Marsh says that’s her strategy. “I know what I like, and I also know what brands are known for quality goods,” she explains. “I definitely have a style. I’m drawn toward leather furniture, solid wood, wool rugs and unique art.”
For example, you may love midcentury modern (MCM) pieces, but the popularity of decor from that era means there’s more demand, and unscrupulous sellers may assign that label to random items in order to get them to sell. You may find more success by researching some favorite brands or designers from the MCM era and looking for those specifically to avoid fake listings and inflated prices. Be aware that people will list items online with a famous brand name keyword to get more hits, such as saying a “Pottery Barn-style” rug or “MCM-style lamp.” If you’re shopping in person, don’t be afraid to ask the store’s staff about an item you’re looking for; they may have something similar that just hasn’t been put out yet. Or, they might be willing to take down your name and keep an eye out for items on your list — especially if you’re a regular customer.
Simple design rules to consider
Once you’ve found that unique piece you’ve been searching for, how do you style it? Thrifted pieces bring character into a space, but it is possible to have too much of a good thing, says Marsh. “I like to pair thrifted pieces with more high-end textiles. I love an old leather sofa that’s worn in against a very bold luxury wallpaper.” If you buy a well-worn piece and want to play up that lived-in aesthetic, try to surround it with items that are clean and modern. Too much rusticity can end up looking like neglect. Same goes for smaller items, such as pots, frames or books — space them out in designed vignettes throughout your home instead of clustering them all together. Also, keep in mind that pairing thrifted furniture is easier when they share some similar elements. For example, mismatched nightstands look more cohesive if they are roughly the same size and color.
Thrifting can be a way to save big, depending on when and where you shop, and what you’re looking for. “I definitely shop with a specific corner or space in mind. I also really only pull the trigger on things that seem like they’re good quality and the right price,” says Marsh. But if you’re patient, persistent and know what you want and what you’re willing to pay for it, it’s just a matter of time before you find it.
Clothing is an often overlooked expense when planning a budget, but pretty much everyone has to spend some money on clothes for work, off hours, and social occasions. Whether you are a trial attorney who needs a wardrobe full of quality suits or a landscaper who gets good and muddy, there are ways to buy clothing without spending a fortune.
Here, learn what factors go into retail pricing, where to buy quality clothes, and how to snag some bargains.
Understand What Goes Into Retail Pricing
Fashion brands establish pricing on a cost-per-unit basis. The final retail price is set by factoring in various expenses and business strategies, such as manufacturing and material costs and marketing and branding expenses.

Manufacturing Costs
The cost of raw materials, labor, packaging, and shipping are obvious factors that determine the price of clothing. But pricing is more nuanced than that. Popular brands or high-end brand names will set higher prices for their products on the assumption that they offer higher quality and better designs. There are also marketing costs to consider.
Brand Reputation
Whether a brand is perceived as a luxury brand, like Versace, or a value brand, like those sold at big box stores, will play a large part in pricing. For example, LuluLemon is a popular, in-demand brand that can price its clothing at the higher end of the scale. Sometimes a popular in-demand brand will have to slash its prices because it no longer holds the prestige it once did.
Supply and Demand
Supply and demand is a huge factor affecting the final price of a product. If a style, product, or brand is in demand, retailers can mark up the prices substantially. The fact that there is not enough to go around means people will likely pay more. (Inflation can be part of this equation, too.)
However, if the supply exceeds demand, retailers will have to drop the price to try to encourage sales so they are not left with inventory they cannot sell.
The Distribution Chain
Another factor in the price of clothing is the distribution chain. Some brands manufacture their own clothing and sell exclusively through their own retail outlets, which can help them keep the price lower. Warby Parker is an example of a retail brand that sells exclusively through their own retail outlets and website.
This business model means fewer add-on costs for the consumer. However, most brands sell through selected independent retailers who add on their own margin. Retailers set the final price by implementing their own desired markups, as well as any subsequent promotions and discounts to ensure they aren’t left with inventory. 💡 Quick Tip: Online tools make tracking your spending a breeze: You can easily set up budgets, then get instant updates on your progress, spot upcoming bills, analyze your spending habits, and more.
Seasonality
Some fashions are in demand for a season only and can be priced high until they lose their popularity. At that point, the price will drop or clothes are sold in a clearance sale as retailers try to get rid of old inventory.
You can save money by buying clothes in the off-season or when they are sold on clearance. There are also other ways to make sure you’re not blowing all of your budget on clothes.
Make Use of Coupons
Coupons are a sales strategy for retailers, but they also benefit the consumer. Consumers can shop online for less using coupons and other sales discounts. The buyer inputs a coupon code when they check out, and that code initiates a discount on the price.
Coupons can be found on many websites such as Saving Says, RetailMeNot, and SlickDeals. Also, many brands offer a discount if you sign up for their email list.
Buy Clothing from Consignment Stores and Thrift Shops
Buying second-hand clothes is one way to find quality clothes while sticking to a budget. Thrift shops and websites that sell pre-owned clothing are growing in popularity, particularly because of consumer interest in sustainable practices and brands that support the environment.
ThredUp is a popular online consignment and thrift store where consumers can buy and sell high-quality secondhand clothes. Other ideas for where to buy good quality clothes for less include ASOS Marketplace, Buffalo Exchange, Depop, Etsy, Poshmark, and Vinted.

Buy During the Off-Season
Avoid buying on impulse by purchasing clothing in the off-season when you can find quality items on sale. Retailers want to get rid of stock when products are not in season. For example, few people are looking to buy ski gear in the height of spring or summer. Because there may be more supply than demand for ski gear at that time, retailers will reduce the price and sell the clothing at a discount. 💡 Quick Tip: Income, expenses, and life circumstances can change. Consider reviewing your budget a few times a year and making any adjustments if needed.
Look for Clearance Sales
Fashion trends typically last one season, and then new styles and products appear on the market. Retailers may find themselves with too much inventory going into a new season. To sell the inventory and not lose too much money, they will sell items in clearance sales, often with slashed prices.
Also, certain retailers are known for having regular sales cycles, such as the Gap and Old Navy. These can be good resources for where to buy good quality clothes on sale.
Consider Alternative Fabrics and Materials
Why does one t-shirt cost $50 and another $15? It could be because the $50 t-shirt has better quality fabric. Similarly, a pair of boots made of leather will be more expensive than a pair made of synthetic leather. In some cases, you might pay more for an item of clothing made of more durable or breathable materials. Investment pieces may be made of finer materials and crafted with more care to last longer.
However, if an item is serving a short-term fashion need, the quality of materials may be less important.
Also, less pricey synthetic materials may get a bad rap. For example, faux leather may be considered an unsuitable material for a shoe because it is unbreathable and less durable. Polyester is often compared to silk and is lambasted for not being “natural.” However, faux leather footwear may appeal to vegans, and polyester blouses last a lot longer than their silk counterparts. So, don’t discount alternatives.

See Before You Buy
If you do opt for the less expensive option, you might want to see the item before you buy it. If the item is too cheap and flimsy, it won’t last long. Check the seams and the hems to see if the stitching is acceptable, and check that the zip works. Buying a reasonably priced item of clothing is one thing, but there is such a thing as too cheap.”
Buy Less, Buy Better
Buying fewer clothes will save you money, so you might think about items to save up for, perhaps one or two quality pieces that will last the test of time. You can pair those quality and timeless pieces with other less expensive items. For example, a couple of quality suits for work can be paired with a number of blouses or shirts that come from a mid-range retailer. You can also build a wardrobe based on a basic color, like black or blue, so that all of your clothes can be mixed and matched.
Note: Also remember to note care labels when purchasing clothes. Those that say “Dry clean only” mean they will cost you more over their life in cleaning than those that can go in the washer or be hand-laundered at home.
Recommended Brands
Some mid-price quality fashion brands recommended by experts are COS, Everlane, H&M, Land’s End, LL Bean, and Uniqlo.
The Takeaway
Dressing well does not have to be a wallet-busting affair if you know where to buy quality clothes and which strategies to follow. In some cases, it is better to pay more for an item that will be durable and serve its purpose rather than to buy something cheap and experience frustration when it doesn’t wear well. However, even then, you can find discounts by using coupons, searching for clearance sales, buying second hand, or buying off season.

Paula Horn knows beauty when she sees it. The Columbus, Ohio, native has dedicated her career to enhancing the decor of clients’ homes through her Atlanta-based partnership, Staged 4 Show, as well as her interior decorating business in Statesboro.
She and her husband, Mike Horn, co-own the store, which they named after their granddaughter, Savannah. The couple relocated to Bulloch County a decade ago, and she opened Savannah Home Consignment Furniture and Home Decor two years later. Horn brings 30 years of furniture and retail experience to the consignment industry. Their store offers “upscale quality furnishings and accessories,” and gives Statesboro shoppers a unique and elegant place to browse.
“I carried our business down here, but people in Statesboro really did not know me,” Horn explains, “I opened my consignment shop, so I could get to know people in the town, and they could build trust with me to hire me to decorate their homes or offices.”
Within the last month, Horn has expanded Savannah Home Consignment Furniture and Home Decor to allow for additional consignment items.
“I just felt like I need to grow, and I’ve felt that way for a while,” Horn says. “I have so many people that want to consign and because of the space, I didn’t have the room. So now we’ve opened it up and I feel good about being able to say yes to my consignors.”
Horn uses the space to entertain interior design clients as well as feature local artists’ work as their paintings adorn the walls of the expanded area.
“I do bring artists in here too,” Horn says. “I love original art.”
Savannah Home Consignment Furniture and Home Decor offers home furnishings and accessories on a 60-day time frame. Most items are new or gently used.
“It’s a basic consignment program; we give 50% on anything $100 or more,” Horn explains.
In addition to consigning, Horn spotlights Statesboro makers in her showroom. “I’m very much into helping local people in the town with promoting their things, so I do have local honey, soap, and candles; I have custom jewelry,” she says.
Horn’s business is directly next to Three Tree Coffee at 441 S. Main Street. They are open Tuesday through Saturday and on Thursdays by appointment.

Are you wondering where to sell jewelry that you don’t need? Here are the best places to sell jewelry online and near you to make extra money.
If you want to sell your stuff and make money, you can sell engagement rings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and whatever else you have.
Selling jewelry can help you make money when you have items that you don’t need anymore. There are different ways to do it, both online and in your local area.
You can use websites like eBay or Facebook Marketplace for a broad audience. If you have expensive jewelry, sites like Worthy or TheRealReal might be a good fit. You can also sell directly to local places like jewelry stores, pawn shops, or at craft fairs, if you need cash right away. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, and I will be going over each below.
Best Places To Sell Jewelry Online and In Person
Below are the best places to sell jewelry online through selling apps and online marketplaces, as well as in person near you.
1. Worthy
I think that one of the best places to sell jewelry online is Worthy.
Selling jewelry like diamond engagement rings or fancy watches can be a way to make money on jewelry that you do not need anymore.
Worthy uses an auction setup, which means many people will see your jewelry, with a good chance of getting a higher price than at your local pawn shop or other online marketplaces.
You can sell items like the below on Worthy:
Earrings
Wedding or engagement rings
Necklaces, pearls, and more
Bracelets
Loose diamonds and gemstones
Watches
You start by telling Worthy what you’ve got (necklace, ring, etc.). They give you free shipping (insurance included) to send it to them. Once your jewelry is in their hands, they clean it up, have it evaluated, take some quality photos, and even get an appraisal.
You get to set a minimum price you’re okay with – called a reserve price – before your jewelry hits the online auction stage.
The whole process typically takes around 2 weeks from shipping to getting paid.
2. Local jewelry stores
When you decide to sell your jewelry, one way is with local jewelry stores. These shops tend to have personalized service and can give you immediate payment for your jewelry pieces. So, if you want to sell your jewelry in person, then this may be the best option for you.
You’ll want to start by researching local jewelry stores near you with good reputations, such as by looking for reviews online or asking people you know for recommendations.
Prior to visiting, understand the value of your jewelry. Some stores might do appraisals, but getting an independent one is often better for comparison so that you know how much money you should be asking for.
And, don’t hesitate to negotiate the price offered. Store owners expect it, and you might be able to get more money for your jewelry.
Some local stores offer trade-in options too. You might receive a higher value if you choose store credit instead of cash.
Make sure to bring your ID with you, as most jewelry stores will require it to process the transaction.
By choosing to sell your jewelry locally, you can typically make money a lot faster than if you sold your jewelry online, which is a huge benefit.
3. Pawn shops
If you want to know where to sell jewelry near you for cash, then pawn shops are typically the first choice.
Pawn shops are local businesses that give cash right away for items, such as fine jewelry, high-end collectibles, and electronics. Pawn shops operate by providing you with a loan based on the collateral value of your item or by purchasing it from you outright.
At a pawn shop, you’ll find a process that’s usually quick and straightforward. Whether you decide to pawn or sell, the staff will assess your jewelry’s value. This value depends on current market prices, the item’s condition, and more. Gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, and gemstones are typically accepted, regardless of their condition.
Before you visit, clean your jewelry to make sure it looks its best, and gather any certifications or paperwork that verifies its authenticity or value. This preparation can help you get a better offer.
Selling vs. pawning:
Selling: You receive cash immediately for your item without any obligation to repay.
Pawning: You get a loan based on the value of your jewelry, with the chance to reclaim your item once you repay the loan plus interest.
4. Selling at auctions
If you want to know where to sell your jewelry to get the most amount of money, then an auction may be it because there is usually a wide audience to bid on your pieces.
You will want to find an auction house and contact a jewelry specialist. It’s important to understand that your jewelry will be sold to the highest bidder once the auctioneer concludes the bidding.
Fees vary, so it’s important to ask about buyer’s premiums and seller’s commissions, as these will impact your final take-home amount. Also, carefully read the terms and conditions before you agree to auction your jewelry, as you need to be aware of payment procedures and timing.
5. eBay
If you’re thinking about selling your jewelry, eBay can be a good place to sell it. It’s an online marketplace (I’m sure you’ve heard of it) with lots of people looking for all different kinds of things around the world.
I have personally sold many items on eBay over the years, including jewelry (nothing too expensive, as I’ve never had expensive jewelry, but there is more expensive jewelry listed on eBay as well). It’s an easy way to list your jewelry online and see if people around the world are interested in buying it.
When you want to sell, take clear pictures of your jewelry from all sides and focus on any logos, textures, or stones. You can also show how the jewelry looks on real people or mannequins to help buyers see how it fits.
To price your pieces competitively, research what similar items are selling for. This may include looking at sold listings to understand how other sellers title and describe their items.
eBay charges a final value fee when your jewelry sells, so factor this into your pricing. With the right approach, eBay can be the perfect place to earn money while clearing out your jewelry box.
6. Consignment shops
Consignment shops are another popular place to sell jewelry.
Consignment means the shop will sell your jewelry for you and take a percentage of the sale price as their fee. This fee can range from 10% to 70%, so it’s important to ask about the commission rates before agreeing to sell your items.
When choosing a consignment shop, remember to:
Check their reputation and reviews.
Understand their commission rates and payment methods.
Ask about their process for valuing jewelry.
Ask about how they secure and insure your items while in their possession, just in case a customer walks away with it.
What makes consignment shops different from the others is that you will not receive any money until someone actually buys the jewelry. So, if it’s an in-person consignment shop, that could be weeks or even months.
7. Yard sales
When you’re looking to sell your costume or lower-value jewelry, you may want to set up a yard sale.
These local events are perfect for selling items that range from playful dress-up accessories to the everyday pieces you no longer wear.
I recommend putting a mirror near where you have your jewelry for sale at your garage sale so that people can see how they look with your jewelry. This can help on-the-spot decisions and give individuals a “try before you buy” experience.
Now, jewelry at a yard sale typically does not sell for much. You may get just a few dollars for your jewelry pieces. But, if you have a lot of jewelry that is not worth a lot, this is an option to sell it fast and earn at least a little bit of money.
8. Facebook Marketplace
Facebook Marketplace can be a convenient online platform if you want to sell your jewelry. With local and nationwide reach, it allows you to list your jewelry easily.
All you have to do is take some pictures of your jewelry from different angles and write a title with a quick description. You will also want to include the type of jewelry, the brand, condition, and mention any certificates or appraisals that it has.
Start by taking clear photos of your jewelry from different angles, and make sure to include close-up shots to highlight details and any craftsmanship.
Because Facebook Marketplace typically means that you will be meeting buyers in person, I highly recommend meeting in well-lit public places for local transactions or using secured payment and shipping methods for long-distance sales.
9. Local craft fairs or markets
If you have a lot of handmade jewelry to sell, then you may want to try setting up a stand at a local craft fair or market. These events give you a chance to present your handmade pieces to a community that appreciates more unique and artisanal items.
To find the right venue, research local fairs and markets that attract buyers interested in jewelry. Look for events that have a history of successful artisan sales. Remember, not all fairs are created equal, so pick ones that match your style and audience.
10. TheRealReal
If you have luxury jewelry you’re ready to part with, you can try selling through TheRealReal.
The RealReal is a high-end consignment online store that sells luxury items, such as designer clothing, shoes, and jewelry. You can earn up to 85% of the selling price for your items.
This marketplace specializes in consignment sales of high-end items. If brands like Chanel, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co., and Rolex are in your collection, you’re in luck, as TheRealReal is known for these luxury names.
11. Sotheby’s
If you want to sell your valuable jewelry, Sotheby’s is a respected auction house known for selling fine art, jewels, watches, and wine. They are well-known globally, with offices in cities like Geneva, New York, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong.
Sotheby’s is known for handling the sale of expensive jewelry, and they have made headlines with the auction of the Royal Jewels from the Bourbon Parma Family, which fetched millions of dollars.
They have specialists who are experts who can help you understand the value of your jewelry and guide you through the consignment process. They’re always ready to view pieces in person, and you can schedule an appointment or ask about a visit.
12. Cash for Gold USA
Cash for Gold USA is a company that buys gold jewelry, such as gold necklaces. They also buy silver jewelry and diamond jewelry.
Cash for Gold USA gives out free appraisal kits, and these kits are the first step to figuring out how much your items are worth. It doesn’t matter if your jewelry is in excellent condition or a bit damaged; they are interested in buying a lot of gold and silver jewelry.
The mail-in system they have makes sure that you can send your gold without worry that it will be lost. They prioritize making it an easy and secure process for you. Here is what you need to do:
Request an appraisal kit or download the shipping form from their website.
Mail your gold or silver jewelry safely.
Wait for an offer.
Get paid.
If you decide to accept their offer, you will receive payment for your jewelry. Keep in mind that the current market price and the condition of your jewelry will affect the offer you get.
It’s important to note that Cash for Gold USA also buys other forms of gold, not just jewelry. They accept coins, watches, and even scrap gold. They claim to offer competitive prices and a 10% bonus on your quote when you obtain a certified appraisal from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This can potentially give you more cash compared to other competitors.
Tips for Selling Your Jewelry
Before you sell your jewelry, it’s important to know its value, make it look its best, and showcase it well with good photos. Skipping these steps might put you at a disadvantage when selling.
How to find out how much your jewelry is worth
Knowing how much your jewelry is worth is important because it affects where and how you sell it.
If your jewelry is valuable, you might get better offers at places like Sotheby’s auction house or specialized services for fine jewelry.
On the other hand, if your jewelry has a lower market value, then local options or online marketplaces could be faster and easier for selling.
To find out how much your jewelry is worth, try getting an appraisal from a certified professional. They look at things like quality, gold content, and whether there are diamonds or other precious metals to figure out the value.
You can find a good appraiser through groups like the American Gem Society.
Preparing jewelry for sale
After you find out the value, make sure your jewelry is ready to sell.
Cleaning is important; you could even think about professional services to make it shine, especially for valuable items like diamond pieces. Check if any repairs are needed, and keep records of the jewelry’s quality and materials.
These details will help convince potential buyers of its value.
Photographing your jewelry for listings
Take photos that show off the sparkle and details of your jewelry, making them really appealing to buyers.
Use a high-quality camera, and take pictures in natural light when you can get the most accurate representation of your jewelry.
If you’re selling online, make sure your pictures are sharp, clear, and show the true condition and quality of the piece.
Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to common questions about where to sell jewelry.
What is the best way to sell jewelry?
The best way to sell jewelry depends on what you have. If you have an engagement ring to sell, then I recommend trying to sell it on Worthy. If you need cash right away (such as the same day), then finding a local jewelry shop or a pawn shop near you may be good options. If you have a lot of cheap jewelry, such as costume jewelry, then Craigslist or Facebook may be good options.
Where can I get the most money for selling jewelry?
To get the most amount of money for your jewelry, think about selling your jewelry directly to consumers on online platforms. This skips the middleman and lets you set competitive prices.
How can I sell my jewelry without getting ripped off?
To avoid being ripped off, research the current market for similar jewelry, set a fair price, and always use secure payment methods and platforms with protections for sellers. If you’re selling high-value items, getting an appraisal from a certified gemologist or a trusted jeweler can also provide proof of your jewelry’s value.
Is it better to sell jewelry to a pawn shop or jewelry store?
Selling to a jewelry store might get you a better amount of money if the store is interested in the resale value of your pieces. However, pawn shops usually pay you faster. If you need quick cash and are willing to accept a potentially lower price, pawn shops can be an option.
Do local jewelers buy jewelry?
Many local jewelers buy jewelry, especially if it’s a piece they can resell or use for parts. It’s always a good idea to have a few consultations with different jewelers in your area to compare offers.
What is the best place to sell jewelry near me?
The best place to sell your jewelry near you depends on the type of jewelry you have. If it’s modern or in high demand, local jewelers or consignment shops might give you good prices. But if it’s unique or antique, you might get better results from specialized markets or online platforms that target specific audiences.

The business will operate near The Gorge Eatery in a renovated portion of the Hofford Mill, a late 19th century building that originally operated as a lumber mill.
Simple Home Pennsylvania owner Sarah Kuhn, of Lehighton, labels her new venture a “passion project” and hopes it will help to reinvigorate Weissport’s business scene.
Unlike many of the antique and consignment shops in the area, Simple Home Pennsylvania will carry “more modern and contemporary products,” Kuhn said.
“I’m really excited,” Kuhn said. “There’s not a lot of opportunity for people in Weissport and the surrounding area to shop this kind of way without having to go to Allentown or other places that are a half hour-plus away. The Gorge Eatery has had a lot to do with Weissport’s rebirth, and we’re hoping to help complement that.”
The store will feature a wide array of home decor items, including dried and artificial florals, vases and planters, wreaths and garland, and serving boards and trays.
Customers also will be able to shop throw blankets and pillows; scented items such as soaps, candles and diffusers; and kitchen products such as mugs, cannisters, dish towels, dinner napkins, oven gloves and natural acacia wood cooking utensils.
“We’ll also have some customized items that are local to the area, including pieces featuring Mauch Chunk Lake and Beltzville Lake,” Kuhn said.
With the help of her father, Kuhn renovated the roughly 1,000-square-foot space to include new flooring, counters, wall paint and more.
“My father has flipped a couple of houses in the past, and I’ve helped stage them and given him design ideas on how to remodel them,” Kuhn said. “He’s retired now and spent countless hours helping me remodel the space – making a custom fireplace, adding new flooring, everything.”
Customers also will be able to shop books, including cookbooks and selections in other genres such as how-to, self-help and decorating inspiration, along with “Support Local Farmers” and “Support American Farmers” sweatshirts.
“We’ve gotten a lot of interaction on our Facebook page regarding our support for local farmers and our clothing displaying those messages,” Huhn said. “There’s a lot of excitement for that.”
To celebrate its grand opening, Simple Home Pennsylvania will offer a door prize along with discount coupons (valid on March 2 only).
Going forward, store hours will be 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, 5-9 p.m. Fridays, noon to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
Customers also can shop online at simplehomepa.com and place orders for pickup or delivery within 10 miles of the store.

So whether you’re looking to bring love into your home in Medford, MA, or apartment in Portland, ME, embark on this journey to discover how simple, intentional choices can significantly enhance the love-filled ambiance within the walls of your home.
1. Display large artwork
Incorporating large artwork into your home serves as a great way to bring love into your living space, as it adds visual appeal and reflects personal taste and emotions.
“Any large artwork that depicts love or people working together in harmony is a great way to bring love into your home. Be sure to position it in your hall so it is the first thing you see or in your living room,” notes consultant Feng Shui West Country.
2. Decorate with a custom area rug
Bringing a custom area rug into your home offers functional and stylish benefits.
“It helps define and delineate different living spaces within an open floor plan, creating a sense of organization and intimacy. A custom rug allows you to express your unique taste and tie together various design elements, adding warmth, texture, and personality to your living space,” states family business The Carpet Workroom.
3. Clean with your loved ones
One of the keys to bringing love into a home is to approach house cleaning with a positive mindset and a focus on creating a loving and harmonious environment.
“Involve your loved ones in the cleaning process to promote teamwork and togetherness,” shares Le Vvintre Living Luxury Cleaning Services. “Assign appropriate tasks to each person and work together to clean and organize the home. This not only lightens the workload but also strengthens bonds and fosters a sense of unity.”
“Nothing says you care like a home that’s not only clean but also radiates a welcoming scent that hugs you the moment you walk through the door. Imagine the gentle fragrance filling your home, creating an atmosphere where love thrives in every corner,” adds Affordable Cleaning Today.
4. Hand-select consignment home decor
Hand-selecting consignment home decor infuses each piece in your home with unique character and history, creating a personalized and curated living space that reflects your individual style.
Lori Schroeder of Consign Couture remarks, “Transform your living space into a haven of love by carefully hand-selecting consignment home décor that resonates with your style. Explore local consignment shops or online platforms to discover unique pieces that evoke positive emotions, memories, and love.”
5. Bring in candles
Introducing scented candles into your home is a delightful way to bring love into your space, as the soft, warm glow creates an intimate and cozy ambiance.
“Nothing whispers ‘I love you’ quite like the soft flicker and warm scent of a beautifully crafted candle,” says luxury candle company melt. “Imagine a candle that blends the sultry notes of rose with the exotic whispers of orchid, setting the stage for those oh-so-precious moments of connection. It’s like a love letter but in fragrance form.”
6. Think in pairs of two
Reiko Gomez of Reiko Home recommends, “In the bedroom, create balance and harmony in by having two bedside tables and two table lamps that are relatively equal in size and style. Think of ways to make your bedroom feel like a cozy cocoon of rest. For example, adding a plush rug, pretty bedding and thick curtains, of fresh cut flowers. A space that feels serene, soft, and inviting attracts good experiences into your life.”
Rose quartz crystals are believed to emanate a gentle and compassionate energy.
“In Feng Shui, love is associated with the element of earth, shares transformation expert LMG Creative. “Bring loving earth energy into your home with two rose quartz crystals. Ensure the pair is balanced in size to symbolize an equal partnership.”
7. Bring in love through floral designs
Incorporating floral design adds a touch of nature’s beauty, infusing the space with freshness and positivity.
Designer Avalana Simpson from Avalana Design comments, “Romantic florals in interior design will always stand the test of time. There’s something about hand-painted cascading flowers in full bloom, which brings a level of warmth, love, and contentment to a space. Often, flower power is overlooked for bedrooms, but intricate oversized blooms are perfect for adding a little love.”
8. Decorate with flowers
Flowers’ vibrant colors and natural fragrances create a visually appealing and emotionally uplifting atmosphere, thus bringing love into your home.
“Flowers are consistently a quintessential way to bring feelings of love into your home. From the sweet fragrance to the eye-catching color palette of a spring bouquet, bright blossoms emit an aesthetic that elevates your mood,” says flower company Fleurish Floral Studio.
“Try introducing fresh-cut flowers for a touch of natural beauty and freshness in your home while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere with soft lighting to enhance feelings of comfort and connection,” adds cleaning service Elite Maids RVA.

9. Hang photos of loved ones
Hanging photos of loved ones is a heartfelt way to bring love into your home, as the visual reminders of cherished moments and relationships.
“Hanging a framed photo of loved ones or special moments in your life can create a positive and nostalgic atmosphere in your living space. They also serve as great conversation starters as guests will inquire about the story behind the photos,” shares Kyle Cong Photography.
Brindy Ruby Photography says, “One of my favorite ways to bring love into my home is through photographs. The best photos to hang up are the ones where there is a true connection between loved ones. This could look like giggles while running through a field or snuggles on the couch.”
“Photos are a great way to bring love into your home. Display some in photo frames on shelves or cluster them together on a living room wall. A scrapbook or photo album can hold more loving memories. If you prefer digital, there are several digital photo frames that keep a slideshow of all of your favorite photos and can be updated at any time,” adds Leslie and Carlos of Absolute Luxury LLC.
10. Bring in plants
Taking care of plants fosters a sense of responsibility and connection with nature, contributing to a home environment that radiates love, care, and a touch of the outdoors.
“To bring more love into your home, fill it with things you love,” recommends watercolor painter My Giant Strawberry. “I’m an artist and a gardener so I always need to be surrounded by plants and art. Think about what brings you the most joy, whether it’s a reminder of those you love, mementos from special trips, or even just your favorite colors.”
“The bathroom rarely receives the kind of interior design attention our living rooms or bedrooms enjoy. Still, these smaller, occasionally steamy spaces are the perfect environment for all sorts of potted pals. Spider plants thrive in bathrooms due to their ability to tolerate low light and high humidity levels, for example, and it’s a similar story to the ever-in-vogue Monstera. Don’t be worried about accidentally killing them, either. Both of these specimens are extra hardy and require very little care,” adds Plant Studio.
11. Create a cozy corner
“We love the ‘cozy corner’ trend,” states luxury gift company MyCOCCO. “It’s all about carving out a little nook of comfort and tranquility in your home. Drawing inspiration from the Danish hygge concept, which is all about coziness and finding joy in the simple things.”
Add a snug armchair with a fluffy blanket thrown over it, a small shelf within arm’s reach stocked with beloved books, and a soft lamp casting a warm glow. This spot can become a private retreat for enjoying those quiet moments of reflection or losing oneself in a good read, creating the perfect backdrop for love to bloom in the simplest of activities.
12. Scent up your space
The subtle aroma of scents like vanilla, lavender, or citrus can foster a loving and cozy atmosphere.
“One of the ways to bring love into your home is through fragrance. This could be in the form of candles, diffusers, and room sprays. Pick up a candle or reed diffuser on your next grocery shopping trip and bring love into your home,” recommends candle business Nneka’s Candle Blog.
“If you’re looking for a fragrant welcome to your home, why not try a reed diffuser in your hallway or porch? There are many refreshing scents like Rhubarb & Ginger Gin with a touch of lime. Bring some love back into your bathroom with a eucalyptus and peppermint room spray with a built-in odor eliminator, making it the perfect choice to freshen any room,” shares scent company Lumiescents.
13. Paint the walls in a different color
Selecting warm and soothing tones can also create a loving environment.
Brilho Cleaning Services says, “Consider using warm and inviting colors like soft shades of red or muted tones of pink to create a cozy atmosphere in your home. Opt for colors that resonate with positive emotions, bringing a sense of warmth and connection. Balance vibrant hues with neutral tones for a harmonious and comforting environment.”
14. Hang plates on your walls
Hanging plates is a charming way to bring love into your home, as the carefully arranged display not only adds a touch of personal style but also reflects a sense of cherished memories.
“One way I bring love into our home is to decorate with plates we find at stores,” notes photographer Jeanna Hayes. “Sometimes, they have special meaning to us, and other times, we just like the pattern and buy it while we are together at the store. We are always on the hunt for our plate wall.”

15. Adding cool furniture pieces
Adding carefully chosen furniture pieces to your home is a thoughtful way to bring love, as each item can contribute to making the space feel like your own.
“Enhance the love in your home by incorporating comfortable and inviting furniture, creating spaces that encourage togetherness and relaxation,” shares mindfulness expert Still Jacey. “Select pieces with sentimental value or unique designs that resonate with your personal style, infusing warmth and personality into your living spaces.”
“My Uncle John would probably roll over in his grave to see his favorite chair covered in pale coral and pink. But I loved my Uncle and the memory of him sitting in his cozy, comfy chair with brown upholstery,” remarks florist Camrose Hill. “Instead of getting rid of the chair, I transformed it by upholstering it into something that fits my space and that I love.”
16. Host dinner parties
Hosting dinner parties and wine nights is a delightful way to bring love into your home, fostering a sense of connection and warmth through shared meals and good conversation.
“I love hosting dinner parties and wine nights for friends and family, which has resulted in the most beautiful memories in this space. I believe that the best parts of a home aren’t the physical items you have in it, but the people who are there to share moments with you,” shares photographer Taylor Rossi.

Wholesale Home Decor Market Trends
The home decor market is constantly evolving, with trends shifting from season to season. Staying abreast of these trends is crucial for businesses looking to captivate customers.
Current trends include sustainable and eco-friendly products, minimalist designs, and bold, statement pieces that reflect personal style. Keeping an eye on these trends helps in selecting products that resonate with contemporary consumer preferences.
Evaluating Quality and Sustainability
Quality and sustainability are key factors in the home decor industry. When choosing suppliers, consider the materials used, the craftsmanship, and the environmental impact of the products.
Suppliers committed to sustainable practices not only add value to your inventory but also appeal to eco-conscious consumers, a growing demographic in the home decor market.
Building Relationships with Suppliers
Fostering strong relationships with your suppliers can lead to better pricing, understanding of inventory cycles, and exclusive access to new products. Regular communication, timely payments, and clear contract terms are essential in building and maintaining these relationships.
A reliable partnership with your suppliers ensures a steady flow of quality products and can provide you with a competitive edge.
Importance of a Unique and Diverse Product Selection
A diverse product selection caters to a wider customer base and sets your business apart from competitors. Look for suppliers offering unique items that reflect various styles and tastes. A mix of traditional, modern, and eclectic decor pieces can attract different customer segments, enhancing the appeal of your inventory.
Tips for Effective Inventory Management
Effective inventory management is crucial when dealing with multiple suppliers. Utilize inventory management software to track stock levels, sales patterns, and reorder times. This helps in maintaining an optimal inventory level, reducing the risk of overstocking, and ensuring a fresh and varied product range for your customers.
Implement a Just-in-Time (JIT) Inventory System: Aim to order stock close to when it’s actually needed to reduce holding costs and avoid overstocking.
Regularly Review Stock Levels: Conduct frequent audits of your inventory to identify fast-moving items and adjust order quantities accordingly.
Utilize Inventory Management Software: Invest in software that provides real-time tracking and analysis of inventory levels, sales trends, and reorder points.
Categorize Inventory: Classify your inventory into categories based on sales velocity, value, and seasonality to prioritize and manage stock more efficiently.
Set Par Levels: Establish minimum stock levels for each product to simplify reordering decisions and prevent stockouts.
Optimize Warehouse Layout: Arrange your warehouse in a way that maximizes efficiency in storing and retrieving items, and reduces handling time.
Train Staff on Inventory Practices: Ensure your team understands the importance of inventory management and is trained in best practices.
Leverage Supplier Relationships: Collaborate with suppliers for bulk discounts, better payment terms, or consignment options to optimize inventory costs.
Track Sales and Forecast Demand: Analyze sales data and seasonal trends to accurately forecast demand and adjust inventory levels accordingly.
Implement a Returns Management System: Efficiently handle returned goods to ensure they are quickly restocked or disposed of, keeping your inventory accurate.
Use Barcode or RFID Systems: Implement barcode or RFID scanning to improve accuracy in tracking inventory movements and reduce manual errors.
Consider Dropshipping for Certain Products: For items that are rarely sold, consider a dropshipping arrangement to eliminate the need to hold these items in stock.
Leveraging Technology in Wholesale Purchasing
Technology can significantly streamline the wholesale purchasing process. From online ordering systems to real-time inventory management tools, technological solutions can save time and reduce errors. Embracing these tools can lead to more efficient operations, better customer service, and improved profitability.
Marketing Strategies for Home Decor Retailers
Effective marketing is key to the success of a home decor business. Utilize social media platforms, email marketing, and an engaging online presence to showcase your products. In-store displays, seasonal promotions, and collaborations with interior designers can also enhance visibility and attract customers.
Navigating Shipping and Handling Challenges
Shipping and handling large or fragile home decor items can be challenging. Work closely with your suppliers to understand their packaging methods and shipping policies. Consider offering shipping insurance and ensure that your logistics partners are equipped to handle delicate items safely.
Legal and Regulatory Considerations
Be aware of the legal and regulatory considerations in your region, such as safety standards, import regulations, and consumer protection laws. Compliance with these regulations is crucial to avoid legal complications and ensure customer safety.
Exploring Global vs. Local Suppliers
Consider the pros and cons of sourcing from global versus local suppliers. While global suppliers may offer a wider range of products at competitive prices, local suppliers can provide faster shipping, lower freight costs, and opportunities for supporting the local economy.
The Future Outlook of Wholesale Home Decor
In conclusion, finding the right wholesale home decor suppliers involves a blend of trend awareness, quality evaluation, and strategic relationship building. As the market continues to evolve, staying informed about future trends and consumer preferences will be key to the success and growth of your home decor business.

Looking for the best selling apps so that you can sell stuff?
Whether you have old things around your home that you want to sell or if you want to start a reselling business, there are many apps that make it easy to sell stuff right from your phone.
There are apps and sites where you can sell all sorts of things, too, such as clothing, furniture, electronics, collectibles, and more.
I have personally sold many items over the years on many different sites to make extra income. I even had a small reselling business at one point. So, I know how helpful these sites and apps really are!
Key Takeaways
Selling apps make it easy to find buyers for your items.
Some of my favorite selling apps are Poshmark for clothing, Worthy for jewelry, and Decluttr for electronics.
Some pay via PayPal, direct deposit, store credit, etc., so make sure you think about your options before choosing a selling site.
Also, selling apps can charge various fees. You will want to look at what they charge for a listing fee, selling fee, payment processing fee, and so on. Some are free, though, like selling to local buyers on Facebook and Craigslist!
What are selling apps?
Selling apps are sites on your phone or computer that let you sell things like clothes, toys, or even your car. You take a picture, write a little bit about it, and then other people can see it and buy it from you. Some apps help you sell to people all over the world, while others let you sell locally to people who live nearby.
The apps below can be found on iOS, Android, desktop computers, or laptops.

This free workshop will teach you how to get into the flipping business. It will teach you how to resell furniture, electronics, appliances, and anything else you can find.
Best Selling Apps For Sellers
Below are the best selling apps.
Decluttr
If you want to sell your electronics items like phones or games, Decluttr is one of the best selling apps.
Selling with Decluttr is simple. You can scan barcodes of items like games, DVDs, and books with your phone, and after you scan your items, Decluttr will give you a price for them right away.
When you decide to sell, you send your items to Decluttr for free. They even pay for the shipping and give you a free shipping label. Once they get your stuff, they’ll inspect them and if everything looks good, you then get paid.
People like using Decluttr because it’s easy and the website is easy to understand. They have a high rating from customers on Trustpilot, which means most people have a good experience.
I have personally sold a phone on Decluttr, and I have a family member who has both bought a refurbished phone on this site as well as sold an old one. It’s very easy to use and I highly recommend Decluttr.
Here’s what you can sell on Decluttr:
Phones
Electronics
Books
Games
DVDs
CDs
Apple Watch
MacBook
Speakers
Tablets
When selling, you always get to see the price Decluttr offers before you agree to sell. If you change your mind or if Decluttr says your items aren’t quite right, they’ll send them back to you without charging you anything.
eBay
eBay is an online marketplace where you can sell all different kinds of items to buyers from around the world.
Plus, you can use either your computer or your phone to sell your items.
I have sold many, many items on eBay in the past, and I think it’s a great selling site if you are looking to reach a lot of people at once. I have mainly sold clothes on eBay, but I have family members who have sold lots of different things, even cars!
If you prefer selling directly from your phone, eBay’s app is handy. You can list items by going to the Selling page and choosing “List an item.”
EBay charges two types of fees – when you create a listing as well as a fee when your item sells. This depends on the item’s price, any listing upgrades you add, and more.
Usually, eBay gives you a number of free listings every month, which means you won’t pay to list your items. This amount can be up to 250 for regular sellers or more for eBay store owners. After the free listings, there will be a fee, so keep an eye on how many listings you’re creating. You do still have to pay a fee after the item sells, which is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.
Facebook Marketplace
When you’re looking to clear out your space, Facebook Marketplace is the best app to sell stuff locally. This is like a large online yard sale but from the comfort of your home and phone. You can sell almost anything here, from the couch you’re replacing to the bicycle you no longer ride.
People sell things on Facebook Marketplace all the time because it is so easy! All you need is the Facebook account that you most likely already have in order to post an ad.
To sell an item, take clear photos and write a simple description. People sell toys, furniture, electronics, household goods, and more on Facebook Marketplace.
Plus, you have the option to buy and sell locally, which means no shipping hassles, or you can reach out more broadly if you’re willing to ship items. I think that most people are selling locally, though.
OfferUp
If you have items you no longer need, like toys your kids outgrew or a bike you’ve replaced, then OfferUp is a mobile marketplace where you can sell these items quickly. It’s like having a yard sale but on your phone. You just take a photo of your item, set a price, and post it. People in your community can see what you’re selling and message you if they’re interested.
Selling collectibles can be successful on OfferUp too. If you have old video game cards or stamps, you might find collectors on the app who are looking to buy them. Just remember to price your items fairly and describe them well so buyers know what they’re getting.
Unlike some other selling platforms, OfferUp is focused on local sales. This means you often meet in person to exchange the item and payment. This local approach can make transactions fast, as you don’t have to wait for shipping.
Tip: You should always be safe when meeting. Always meet in public spaces and verify the item before paying.
Poshmark
Poshmark is one of the best reselling apps for clothes and accessories.
I love Poshmark because I can find all sorts of clothing, from adult to baby, all on this site. I can search for the exact clothing brand I am looking for and often find great deals. It’s also an easy way to list items that you want to sell, and people sell all the time on Poshmark.
You can get started selling on Poshmark by creating an account, which includes adding a profile picture and writing a biography about yourself to help potential buyers get to know you better.
Then, you will list your items for sale, which includes taking photos of what you’re selling, writing a clear title and description for each item (such as the size and brand), and setting a price.
When you sell something, Poshmark helps with shipping by giving you a shipping label, and you mail the item to the buyer.
When the buyer gets your item and everything’s good, you get paid. Poshmark takes care of payments to keep it safe for everyone.
Nextdoor
Nextdoor is your go-to app for connecting with your neighbors and tapping into your local community. Think of it like a virtual gathering place where you and others in your area can meet up online.
Nextdoor is convenient because there’s no shipping – you just meet up and make the exchange.
It uses no fees to list your items, which means more money in your pocket. Instead, Nextdoor makes money in other ways (such as advertisements) so that you don’t have to pay listing or transaction fees.
So, when you have a couch to sell or want to buy a lawn mower nearby, Nextdoor might just be the app for you.
Craigslist
Craigslist is a very popular site for buying and selling items locally.
I have bought and sold many things on Craigslist in the past, such as car tires, a white water raft, clothes, and more. As you can see, that is a wide variety of items – so I’m sure you can find something that you can sell on Craigslist as well.
Plus, there are no fees to list your items on Craigslist. And, there are no selling fees either.
It is completely free to use.
To sell your items, you need to create a post, add a description and photos, and set a price.
There are a lot of scams on Craigslist, unfortunately, so you will want to stay safe. Be careful with anyone who wants to pay via check, and always stay safe. I recommend meeting buyers in public places and think about bringing a friend along. I like to pick public places like Walmart, and I know many people who like to use police department parking lots.
thredUP
ThredUP is an online consignment and thrift store where you can sell your clothes. If you have gently used women’s or kids’ clothes, thredUP lets you clean out your closet and earn money.
You can get started by simply filling a bag with the clothing items you want to sell. Then, you’ll mail your clothes with a prepaid shipping label from thredUP, and you can drop off your package at FedEx or USPS.
When your clothes sell, you have two choices. You can either cash out or get credit to shop on thredUP.
Remember, you won’t earn money for every item you send because not everything may meet thredUP’s criteria (such as if something is stained or damaged). But it’s a straightforward way to declutter and earn some cash or credit.
Etsy
Etsy is a great place to sell items that are vintage, fun, crafty, or collectible.
You can sell items like paintings, clothing, furniture, jewelry, printables, stickers, mugs, home decor, handmade items, vintage items, and so much more.
I shop on Etsy all the time, and I love how I can find interesting items that I can’t find anywhere else, such as custom artwork or vintage furniture pieces that someone found. I shop on Etsy all the time (several times a year) for both myself as well as to find gifts to give to others.
Now, Etsy is a little different from the other selling apps on this list. This is because you would not only be creating a listing but also a whole storefront.
So, if you want to start a part-time or even a full-time selling business, then this may be more for you. But, if you’re looking to sell just one or two items, then starting a whole Etsy shop may be a little too much work (depending on what you’re selling).
Worthy
When you have jewelry like diamond rings, luxury watches, or gold necklaces that you don’t want anymore, you can sell them on Worthy.com.
At Worthy, they will check your jewelry to see how much it’s worth. Then, they will sell it for you in an auction. This means that lots of people can offer money for your piece until someone gives the best price.
Steps to sell your jewelry with Worthy:
Send your jewelry to Worthy.
Worthy checks your jewelry and helps you know how much it’s worth. If you don’t like the price, you can decide not to sell it and get your jewelry back.
Your jewelry is put up for auction.
You get money when someone buys it.
The good thing is that Worthy takes care of getting your jewelry to the buyers safely. They pay for the shipping insurance, so you don’t have to worry if something happens on the way.
Mercari
You might want to sell things you don’t need anymore like a pair of shoes you outgrew or a video game you’ve finished playing. Mercari is an app that lets you sell these items right from your phone.
You can list almost anything on Mercari as long as it can be shipped. This includes phones, gaming consoles like Xbox and PS5, clothes, shoes, and even collectibles like Squishmallows.
It’s free to list your stuff on Mercari. Instead, they earn money from fees after your item sells.
First, you take a few pictures of what you’re selling. Then, you write down details about it – like what it is, what condition it’s in, and how much you want for it.
When someone buys your item, Mercari helps with shipping. They get you a prepaid label, and you just have to package your item and send it off.
Amazon
We’ve all heard of Amazon and I’m sure most of us use this site.
I buy things on Amazon all the time, and I have a few friends who sell on Amazon as well.
Amazon FBA, which stands for Fulfillment by Amazon, means that sellers keep their items in Amazon’s storage places. Amazon takes care of sending products to customers, dealing with returns, and managing customer service for the seller. With FBA, you can sell different things without the need to store them yourself or manage shipping details.
Your business would involve finding items to sell. Even if you haven’t sold anything on Amazon before, you can make money by selling everyday things like household items, toys, books, electronics, and more.
If you want to learn more about starting an Amazon business, I recommend signing up for this free training that will teach you how to sell products on Amazon and make $100 to $500 per day.

Chairish
Chairish is a site where you can sell furniture.
With Chairish, your items are put in front of people who appreciate one-of-a-kind pieces. You can find buyers for antique and vintage furniture, art, and decor.
On Chairish, the process is smooth. You write about your item, set a price, and Chairish handles the rest from marketing to shipping.
Kidizen
Kidizen is a used kids’ clothing site where you can sell your kids’ outgrown clothes, shoes, toys, and more. They even accept clothing for moms and maternity wear.
There are two ways to sell on Kidizen. One is to create listings yourself and sell your used items on Kidizen directly. The other option is to have Kidizen sell the items for you, where they create the listings and do all the work.
Cash4YourBooks
Cash4YourBooks is a site where you can sell your books. They buy book collections of 500 books or more (such as from estates, personal collections, libraries, and more).
If Cash4YourBooks decides to buy your collection, they’ll pick it up; you don’t need to worry about shipping or anything like that.
Gameflip
Gameflip is a site where you can sell gaming stuff, like video games and things you use inside games.
You can sell both real and online games on Gameflip. You get to decide how much they cost, and you can chat with potential buyers. This makes it simple for you to sell your video games and other things.

Some apps are great for local sales, allowing you to connect with buyers in your neighborhood. These can be super helpful for large items that are difficult to ship. Other apps specialize in specific categories, like fashion or handmade goods.

Do you want to learn how to make money in one hour?
Whether it’s for an unexpected bill or you’re saving for a special purchase, the good news is that there are many real ways you can make money within an hour or less.
These can be ways to make extra income or even possibly be turned into a full-time job.
Back when I had student loans, I found many different ways to make money in an hour. I did this because I wanted to squeeze in quick side hustles around my full-time job – such as before and after work and during my lunch break. There were also times when I needed money quickly, such as in less than an hour, and I had to find ways to make that happen to have cash on hand.
There may be other reasons for why you need to make money in an hour or less. If this is you, continue reading below to learn how to make money in 60 minutes or less!
Key Takeaways
If you have unwanted items (like clothes you don’t wear anymore), sell them. You can use apps or go to a thrift store, and they might give you cash right on the spot.
You could sell helpful services like tutoring or dog walking. These jobs pay you right away for the time you spend doing them.
You can make money fast by taking online surveys. Websites like Survey Junkie or Swagbucks pay you for sharing your opinions.

Best Ways to Make Money in One Hour
Whether you only have one hour to spare each day or if you need to make money in literally one hour from now, you do have some options.
Make money in one hour by selling items you don’t need
Got stuff at home you don’t use anymore? You can turn those things into cash, often in just an hour!
Here are some easy ways you can do this.
Clothes and jewelry – Look in your closet. Are there clothes that are no longer worn? Take them to a thrift store or a consignment store like Once Upon A Child. They buy your gently-used clothes and you leave with cash in your hand!
Toys and games – If you have toys or video games that just sit around, you can sell these too. Kids outgrow these fast, and you can find a new home for them where they’ll be loved again.
Unused gift cards – If you have gift cards that you haven’t used, you can sell them!
Other stuff – Electronics, books, or maybe some old furniture could also be sold.
You can sell items on platforms like Decluttr, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and eBay. I have sold on all these (plus a lot more!), and they are all easy to use.
You could even have a garage sale if you have lots of items to get rid of.

This free workshop will teach you how to get into the flipping business. It will teach you how to resell furniture, electronics, appliances, and anything else you can find.
Mow lawns or shovel snow
Making money in one hour can be done if you mow lawns or shovel snow. These jobs can be done quickly, and you get paid right after you finish the work.
You’ll need a lawn mower, shovel, and/or snow blower to get started, and you can typically charge around $50+ for a yard.
Doing a good job increases the chances of people asking you to return or recommending you to their friends. Take your time to do things well. Before starting any work, make sure to ask how much they’re willing to spend because this way, both of you agree on the price!
Return a recent purchase
If you bought something you don’t need or haven’t used yet, returning it is a quick way to get cash.
Surprisingly, many people have items lying around that they’ve purchased but may have not used yet. If you really need the cash, then this can be a great option to start with.
First, find your receipt. This shows you paid for the item and when you bought it. No receipt? Look in your email or bags. Sometimes, stores send receipts to your email or put them in your shopping bag.
Next, check the store’s return policy. Some stores let you return items within a certain time, like 30 or 60 days. Be quick – if you wait too long, you can’t return it!
Before you go to the store, make sure the item is in good shape. It should look like when you bought it. Return it in its original packaging if you can. Here’s a list of what you’ll need to return a purchase:
Your receipt (or email proof)
The item (unused and not broken)
Packaging (the box or bag it came in)
At the store, go to the customer service desk and tell them you want to return the item. Be polite – it makes things smoother. If you don’t want to go to the store, some stores might let you mail the item back.
Remember, some items can’t be returned. Things like opened DVDs or personal use items like earbuds usually can’t go back to the store. It’s always a good idea to know the return rules before you buy things.
Deliver food to make money in one hour
If you want to make money fast and take advantage of the gig economy, you can deliver food, such as groceries or restaurant meals. Companies like Instacart, Uber Eats, and DoorDash let you sign up to be a delivery driver.
To get started, you’ll need a car, bike, or scooter and sign up for the company that you want to work with. You’ll then get orders on your phone through an app, go to the restaurant or grocery store, pick up the food, and drive it to the customer’s place (this may be their home or where they work).
You’ll get paid for each person or food delivery, plus get tips as well.
You get to choose the hours that you want to work, and you can work for just one hour or as much as you want.
Related to this, you can even deliver packages for retailers with Amazon Flex!

Instacart is a popular website for people looking to earn extra money shopping for and delivering groceries. Instacart gives you the option to turn your free time into a chance to make some extra money.
Drive for rideshare companies
If you want to make money quickly, you might start driving for companies like Uber or Lyft.
You get paid for giving people rides in your car, and the more you drive, the more money you can make.
Drivers can earn about $20 per hour on average. In some cities, drivers can make more than $30 an hour.
You can increase your earnings further by concentrating on busy areas (such as before and after a concert) and driving during the busiest times (such as on a Saturday night). This way, you can make more money for each hour of your time!

Answer online surveys
If you want to make money quickly, you can try taking paid online surveys. Market research companies need your opinions to make their products better, so they pay you for your time.
Some paid survey sites where you can take surveys include:
American Consumer Opinion
Survey Junkie
Swagbucks
InboxDollars
Branded Surveys
Here’s what to do:
Sign up: Make a free account on the survey site.
Pick a survey: Choose one that looks interesting to you.
Give honest answers: Share what you really think about the questions you’re asked.
Earn rewards: After you finish, the site will give you points or money.
Earning money from answering surveys is not always fast, and it won’t make you rich. But if you have an hour, it’s a simple way to earn a little extra cash.
For me, I have answered a lot of surveys over the years. I like how I can answer surveys in little breaks I have during the day, such as before and after work, during a lunch break, while being a passenger in a car, and so on. They are easy to answer, and usually only take a few minutes.

Branded Surveys is one of the most popular survey sites that rewards you in cash and gift cards for sharing your opinion. You can get paid anywhere from $0.50 to $5.00 per survey.
Perform odd jobs found on Craigslist
Craigslist has a jobs section on their site where you can find tasks that people need done right away. These are typically one-time gigs, but there are also part-time and full-time jobs listed here as well.
When you do a job on Craigslist, you usually get paid right after you complete the short task. That means you’ll receive your money on the same day.
To find Craigslist gigs in your town, just go to Craigslist and look for the “gigs” section.
Here are some gigs and tasks I found through a quick search on Craigslist:
House cleaner
Mover
Focus groups
Help with launching a boat
Gardening help
Help with painting a home
Lawn mowing
Participate in focus groups
Are you looking for a quick way to make money? Joining focus groups can be a fun way for you to earn extra cash and many times they take an hour or less.
A focus group is a small group of people who talk about products or services. Companies use your opinions to make their stuff better by learning more about their customers, such as you.
User Interviews is a popular site to find focus groups to take part in.
I have done a user interview in the past and got paid $400 for just one hour of work. It was simple, and everything happened online through a video call to see my opinion on a new feature for a well-known company (one of the largest companies in the world, in fact – so even large companies use these to help them improve!).
You can make $50 to $100 per hour, or even more, by sharing your thoughts and feedback.

Mystery shopping
If you want to earn money quickly, like in just an hour, you can try becoming a mystery shopper. Mystery shoppers are people just like you and me who get paid to shop and give their opinion.
I’ve done a lot of mystery shopping over the years to make some extra money and to get free stuff. It’s easy work that can be done either on the phone (such as by rating their customer service when they answer the phone) or in person at a store. Most mystery shops take less than an hour too! I’ve done many that even take less than 5 minutes to complete.
The way mystery shopping works is that you’ll typically buy products or try services, pay attention to the details like how clean the store is or if the staff is nice, and then answer questions that the mystery shopping company gives you after you are done.
Donate plasma
If you’re looking for ways to make money in one hour, you can donate plasma and get paid for it.
When you go to donate, the center will check your blood to make sure you’re healthy and that your plasma can be used to help others.
Here’s what you might earn for your plasma donation:
$20 to $50 for each time you donate
Up to $300 a month if you donate regularly
Some centers might pay more money for your first time donating, like a bonus to persuade you to start. The amount you get can change depending on where you live, so make sure to confirm before you commit.
Tutor students online
If you want to learn how to make money in one hour online, then online tutoring jobs can be a good option to look into.
If you’re good at a subject, you can make money fast by tutoring students online. Lots of students need help with their schoolwork and are willing to pay for your knowledge.
As a tutor, you might spend 30 minutes to an hour giving a lesson, answering questions online, or working one-on-one with a student through a video lesson.
Tutors can earn different amounts depending on what they teach (the subject) and the duration of the session (whether it’s a quick question or a full-hour session). For example, tutoring in advanced subjects like calculus usually pays more than simpler ones like first-grade math. Some tutors may earn around $20 per hour, while others can make well over $100 per hour.
Sell scrap metal
Selling scrap metal or precious metals is a quick way to make some money in just one hour.
To get started, you’ll want to find metal items from around your home. This can be old appliances, wires, and even soda cans.
Then, you’ll want to find a scrap yard nearby to take your metals. You’ll want to make sure it’s clean and to keep your metals separated and organized.
Once you get to the scrap yard, you’ll weigh your metal on their scales, and then they’ll give you a price. If it’s your first time, ask how the process works just so that you are not confused by anything.
Prices change often, so what you earn depends on the type and weight of the metal you sell.
Play online games for rewards
Have you ever thought you could make money by playing games on your phone or computer? Yes, you can! Some apps and websites let you earn rewards, like gift cards or even cash, just for playing online games in your spare time.
Apps that pay you for playing games usually make their money through ads, things you buy in the app, and paid gaming competitions. They share a bit of what they earn with you to get you to keep playing their games and spend more time on their platform.
Here’s a quick list of the top game platforms that pay real cash:

Walk dogs
If you like being around pets and want to make money fast, dog walking is a great choice. Many dog walking gigs are one hour or less per visit, so this can be a great way to make money in an hour.
To start, you just need a love for dogs and a good pair of walking shoes.
You can set your rates, usually between $10 to $20 for a 30-minute walk.
One hour of walking dogs could mean walking one dog for 60 minutes or doing two 30-minute walks for two different dogs.
Rover is a website that connects pet owners with pet sitters and dog walkers. Starting on Rover is simple. You create a profile where you talk about your experience with pets and the services you can offer, such as dog walking, pet sitting, and house sitting. After setting up your profile, you’ll get requests from customers and discuss pricing. Rover handles payment processing, and you’ll receive the payments directly into your account.
I know many people who are dog walkers, and they all really love the job. I have also used dog sitters in the past – it is a wonderful and super helpful service.
Freelance online on your own schedule
As a freelancer, you get to choose your own hours. So, you may decide to work an hour here and an hour there.
Back when I had a full-time job, this is what I loved about being able to freelance online – I could work in my spare time, even if it was just small pockets of time that I had. For example, I would complete short tasks an hour before I went to work, during my hour lunch break, and later once I got home from work.
And, there are many different types of freelance gigs that you can do, such as managing social media as a virtual assistant, data entry, proofreading, graphic design, email management, and more.

Sign up for a high yield savings account
A high-yield bank account is a low-risk method to make extra money, and it typically takes less than an hour of your time to set up.
These savings accounts earn more interest than a regular one, so your money grows faster.
You will want to make sure that you pick a trustworthy bank and check the interest rates regularly because they can go up or down. Some people move their money into high-yield savings accounts often so that they can get the highest interest rates.
I personally use Marcus by Goldman Sachs as they have a very high rate. You can get up to 5.50% (at the time of this writing through a referral link bonus). According to this high-yield savings account calculator, if you have $10,000 saved, you could earn $550 with a high-yield savings account in a year. Whereas with normal banks, your earnings would only be $46.
This is an easy way to make passive income!

NEW ALBANY — Sisters Kathy Proctor and Becky Sleith have incorporated their shared love of home decorating into a new small business in downtown New Albany.
Re-Homed Decor opened Nov. 1 at 151 E. Spring St. The consignment shop sells gently used and new home decorations.
“It’s actually something that we’ve always wanted to do,” Proctor said. “As sisters, we’ve always enjoyed decorating. We shop a lot at home decor stores, so we always said, we need to open something like this. We said it for so long, and finally, we just decided to go for it.”
It is the sisters’ first time as small business owners. Their venture has been challenging but rewarding, Proctor said.
“It hasn’t been real easy. It’s a lot of hard work, so we did put a lot of time and effort into it, but it’s different every day,” Proctor said. “We’ve got a lot of consigners now, and we just keep picking up more.”
Sleith said it has been “scary at times” to start a business, but she has enjoyed working with her sister to make their vision into a reality. She also enjoys meeting new people.
The shop frequently receives new items, so the inventory is constantly changing. The shop focuses on “more current” decor rather than antique items, and the used items must be “like new.”
“Since we are a small space, we have to keep things that are kind of going to move quickly,” Proctor said.
As Christmas approaches, the shop is filled with festive holiday items ranging from ornaments to reindeer decor. Last weekend, the shop participated in Develop New Albany’s Jingle Walk, and the sisters are now preparing for this weekend’s Small Business Saturday and Light Up New Albany events.
The small shop has received support from other downtown New Albany businesses, including Mariposa Consignments and the neighboring Madhouse boutique.
“That is something I’ve always wanted to do — getting involved with Develop New Albany and just reaching out to the other business owners to support each other,” Proctor said.
Proctor said they have received positive feedback since opening the business.
“Everyone has a lot of good feedback,” she said. [There are] a lot of return customers.”
The shop has stayed busy, and lately, it has been “nonstop” business.
“We never anticipated this,’ Proctor said. “It’s been remarkable.”
Re-Home Decor is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
