Original Post 10/26/20:
American Express announced today a new $10 monthly credit for Uber or UberEats on the Gold consumer card, and a new benefit on the the Platinum, Gold, and Green personal cards to get a free year of Uber Eats Pass valued at $119.

$10 Gold Credit
American Express Gold consumer cardholders will get $10 each month in Uber Cash which can be used for Uber rides or for Uber Eats orders. That’s $120 in annual credits. This benefit begins at an undisclosed date in early 2021. I assume this is a replacement for the $100 airline credit.
This benefit is in addition to the existing $10/month Grubhub benefit.
(The Platinum consumer card also has an Uber/UberEats benefit of $15 each month and $35 in December. Nothing is changing on that front.)
Eats Pass Benefit
Enrollment link
The Platinum, Gold, and Green consumer cards will all have a benefit to get one year of Eats Pass free. Enrollment in this new benefit begins now through December 2021.
Eats Pass is a monthly subscription through Uber Eats that offers unlimited $0 delivery fee and 5% off restaurant orders over $15 and $0 delivery fee on grocery deliveries over $30 in select markets. Typically costs $9.99/month for total value of $119 for the free twelve months.
This credit seems to be a one-time thing for 12 months between now and December 2021, not a permanent benefit, though it’s obviously possible they’ll extend it or offer it again.
Note the fine print: Pass will auto-bill starting 12 months from initial enrollment in this offer, at then-current monthly rate. Be sure to make a notation to cancel during the 12th month.
Our Verdict
The Eats Pass benefit is a nice benefit of having these cards; it can be an added enticement to sign up for one of these, along with the other benefits.
The $10 credit on the Gold card is meant as a replacement of sorts to the $100 airline incidental credit which is ending after 2021. The year 2021 will be the sweet spot where you can get $120 in Uber credits + $100 in airline incidental credits + $120 in dining credits for a single $250 annual fee. If you are signing up now to take advantage of the 2021 overlap, November/December is probably the best idea; that way you can get two $100 airline incidental credits for 2020 and 2021, and still get most/all of the $120 in UberEats credits.
Some people will prefer the old airline credit, though, with how hard they made it to get that, many will prefer the new UberEats credit.
Gold cardholders might want to wait to enroll in Eats Pass until end of December so they get a full year of Eats Pass which can overlap with more of their $10 credits which start in 2021.
