Activation Link / FAQ / Sample Stores & Exclusions / Our original post
With the Freedom and Freedom Flex cards, activate to earn 5% back this quarter on up to $1,500 in spend at Grocery Stores, Fitness Club & Gym Memberships, Self-Care & Spa Services.
Grocery Stores – This is always a favorite since we all shop for groceries. Plus, you can max this out by purchasing gift cards to other retailers.
The terms exclude Walmart and Target, though I believe in the past readers have said that these sometimes do get classified as a grocery store.
Merchants in this category include supermarkets, merchants that offer a full-service grocery line of merchandise including a deli and bakery, as well as smaller grocery stores.
Some merchants that sell grocery items are not included in this category; for example, larger stores that sell a wide variety of goods and groceries, such as warehouse clubs, discount stores and some smaller merchants such as drugstores, and merchants that specialize in only a few grocery items.
Purchases made at gas stations from merchants who also operate grocery stores are not included in this category.
Delivery service merchants will be included if they classify as a grocery store merchant.
Fitness Club & Gym Memberships
Merchants in this category include health clubs, exercise, or athletic facilities requiring membership and offering access to services related to physical fitness, such as fitness clubs, fitness centers, fitness studios, gyms, aerobics, cardio fitness and other services such as yoga and cross fit training.
Merchants that specialize in offering personalized or therapeutic services such as massage therapy, dietary and weight management counseling and personal training are not included in this category.
In addition, some merchants that sell a wide variety of general goods, which may include fitness or athletic apparel, sporting goods, dietary food, health food or similar supplements are not included in this category.
Also, certain lodging, hotel, motel, resort and central reservation services offering access to third party facilities that include fitness clubs or gyms are not included in this category unless they classify as a fitness club or gym membership merchant.
Self-Care & Spa Services
This category includes self-care and spa services, such as massages, spa treatments, manicures, tanning, and barber and salon services, purchased at merchant locations that specialize in providing these services.
Self-Care and spa services are typically provided by licensed professionals, however, services provided by medical professionals will not qualify.
Purchases of self-care and spa services at merchants that classify their location in another category, for example spa services purchased in a hotel, will not be included unless the merchant classifies the transactions in this category.
Purchases of related products and services, for example hair and skincare products purchased at a salon or an overnight stay at a spa, will also not be included unless the merchant classifies the transactions in this category.

15 Best Coupon Sites To Save Money Every Day
Below are the top coupon sites that I recommend trying out.
1. Rakuten
Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates) is a popular cash back site that gives you cash back on a wide range of items that you can buy online, and you can earn free money for spending how you normally would online.
I have been using Rakuten for years and it is so easy to use, plus it’s free! In fact, I just received my most recent Rakuten payment yesterday for $60.
You simply choose a store where you want to buy things, like Walmart, Target, Sephora, Chewy, or Old Navy on the Rakuten website. (You will start at Rakuten’s homepage, their app, or via their browser extension). Then, you click on the store through Rakuten’s platform, and you shop online there just like you usually do.
The cash back is activated automatically, and it will be added to your account without any extra work needed from you.
Rakuten earns a commission for directing you to the store where you shopped, and they share some of that money with you as a reward. This helps you save money and adds a little extra to your pocket.
Please click here to sign up for Rakuten for free.
2. Capital One Shopping
Capital One Shopping automatically applies coupon codes for many different online stores. Using Capital One Shopping is free, and it’s a browser extension that works with all the main web browsers.
I personally have this browser extension installed on my laptop, and it’s been a no-brainer.
Capital One Shopping is a great promo code site because it automatically adds coupon codes while you shop online. This saves you time and money since you don’t have to search for coupon codes yourself.
This is one of the best automatic savings sites because you don’t need to do anything extra. The Capital One Shopping browser extension does all of the work for you. It checks different coupon codes when you’re checking out and automatically uses the best coupon codes for your purchase.
It’s free to use Capital One Shopping, and it is a browser extension that works with all major browsers.
You shop as you normally do, and the Capital One Shopping app works quietly in the background. I have it on my laptop, and it’s amazing. It helps me find the best deals without any extra effort on my part.
You can sign up for Capital One Shopping here.
3. Swagbucks
Swagbucks is a rewards site where you can get cash back when shopping online and find coupons and promo codes to use.
Some sites listed on Swagbucks where you can get cash back or use promo codes include Kohl’s, Macy’s, Walmart, Amazon, and more.
I personally have been a member of Swagbucks for around 10 years now, and I have earned over 110 free gift cards by using their rewards platform. So, I definitely believe in this site!
Plus, there are also many other ways you can earn points on Swagbucks such as watching videos on their website, scanning your receipts, answering polls, and even searching the web using their search engine.
Here’s how Swagbucks works:
You join Swagbucks through my referral link, and receive a $10 bonus.
Earn points by using their coupon codes or cash back links.
Then, you can redeem your points for PayPal cash or gift cards (such as to Amazon or Walmart).
And, that’s it! It’s very easy.

Fetch Rewards isn’t exactly a coupon site, but you do get to earn points for your normal everyday shopping. I use it each time I go grocery shopping!
With Fetch Rewards, you get points by taking pictures of your receipts and submitting them through the Fetch Rewards app. This works for receipts from any store, whether it’s a grocery store, clothing store, restaurant, gas station, and more.
Afterward, you can exchange the points you’ve earned for gift cards.

8. Groupon
Groupon has deals on experiences, products, and services in your local area, and you can find discounts on dining, entertainment, travel, and more, all designed to help you save while supporting local businesses.
You’ve probably heard of Groupon before, but perhaps you haven’t used it in a while. Yes, it is still around and my sister actually uses Groupon all the time! I haven’t used it in forever, but I plan on changing that – I simply just forgot about how great this platform is.
You can use Groupon to get deals where you live, such as for restaurants or spas near you. Or, you can also use them when you’re on vacation to get deals on activities (such as tours), admissions to museums, discounted restaurant meals, and more.
For example, here are some deals on Groupon that I found:
A massage for $46.75 (full price is $75)
A meal at a restaurant for $21.38 (full price is normally $35)
Admission to an aquarium for $14.96 (normal price is $24.99)
Here’s how Groupon works: You simply browse on the Groupon site for a deal you’re interested in. You then buy it directly on Groupon. Then, to use it, you simply go to the business and present your Groupon to get your deal (make sure to follow any terms too).
Please click here to find Groupon deals near you.

Coupons.com has both printable and digital coupons for groceries, household items, baby items, pet care, and personal care products. So, whether you are looking to use coupons for your online shopping or if you want to use them in person at the store, this is a great site to start using.
Plus, it is free!
Coupons.com is used by over 2,000,000 people each year, and they share over 2,000 working coupons each month.

They share coupons, promo codes, and discounts available for you to use.
Over 12,000,000 shoppers use SlickDeals each month, and they have saved over $10 BILLION since the site was started.
12. Amazon Coupons
Amazon Coupons are discounts and deals on products sold on Amazon’s website.
They are super simple to use too!
When you’re shopping for something on Amazon, sometimes it will show you a coupon next to the price. You simply “clip” the coupon before adding the item to your cart, and the discount will be applied at checkout.
I see these all the time and recently used one to save $2.25 on a train set for my daughter. All I had to do was click on the green coupon button next to the price when on the sales page for the train set on Amazon. It couldn’t be any easier!
Another way to use coupons on Amazon is to go to the Amazon Coupons homepage, and see what coupons are available to you.
Some coupons that I see on Amazon Coupons right now include $15 off a pair of walking shoes, 50% off a toaster, and more. There are a ton of coupons available in many different categories such as health, grocery, beauty, electronics, home, toys, and more.
13. Hip2Save
Hip2Save is a blog-style coupon site that shares the latest deals, coupons, and money-saving tips.
This site shares coupons and deals information on many different stores such as Amazon, Aldi, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and more.
In my opinion, this is one of the best coupon websites, because they help you in so many areas related to saving money and finding the best deals on stuff.
What I love about Hip2Save is that this site shares where you can find the best deals (such as for specific toys or gaming systems) as well as the best deals at a specific store (such as Aldi Weekly Finds Under $10). It’s nice to see what items are currently at a low price and where to buy them.
So, instead of just sharing coupon codes, this platform shares so much more so that you can save the most money and not miss out.
14. The Krazy Coupon Lady
The Krazy Coupon Lady has deal alerts, coupon matchups, discount codes, and money-saving tips for popular stores. They share up-to-date information on the best deals and teach you how to become a smarter shopper.

This is a great all-around website that will help you to save more money.
15. Brad’s Deals
Brad’s Deals is a site that shares deals, coupons, and even has shopping guides. Over 5,500,000 people use Brad’s Deals each month, and over $200,000,000 is typically saved each year by their readers.
When Brad’s Deals comes across a good deal, they share it as a blog post so that people don’t miss out. For example, they may share a quick blog post on how you can get luggage for cheap or a good deal on leather gloves that they recently came across.
These deals are all handpicked personally by their team, so you know that these deals are real and not a waste of time.
What Makes A Good Coupon Site?
So, after reading about all of the different top coupon sites above, what actually makes a good coupon site?
As you read above, there are many different coupon sites, so where should you start?
Different things work for different people, so here are some things to look for when choosing a coupon site:
Wide range of coupons – It’s easiest when a coupon site has coupons for many different stores so that you can use just one coupon platform.
Up-to-date coupons that aren’t expired – A good coupon site should regularly update its coupon database to make sure that you always have access to the latest deals and discounts.
Easy to use – The easier to use, the better. I really like browser extensions because they are set-it-and-forget-it; they will automatically apply coupon codes for you. Other things to think about related to this include if the site is available on your cell phone, such as for Android devices or iOS.
Reliability – One thing I dislike about some coupon sites is that they give you coupon codes that don’t work. So, it’s a waste of time. Some coupon sites are much better than others and give you real coupon codes (such as the sites above).
You may also want to think about if you are looking for a site that has mainly online retailers or if you are looking to find deals on in-store purchases as well.
The Different Kinds Of Coupons
Another area to think about is the different kinds of coupons and discounts that you may come across.
Manufacturer’s coupons
Manufacturer’s coupons come from the product manufacturer, giving you a discount on their item at any store selling it. These coupons usually last longer and can be found in newspapers, magazines, or online. You can also combine them with store coupons for more savings. Examples include coupons from companies like Procter & Gamble, General Mills, Tide, and Colgate.
Store coupon
Store coupons are meant for a specific store, like Target or Walmart, and can only be used there. You can find store coupons in weekly flyers or on the store’s website, and they are usually designed to get customers to shop at their particular store. For example, you may see a store coupon where a grocery store is giving $5 off any purchase over $100.
Cash back
Cash back offers give you back a part of your purchase as savings. So, you may get 5% back on a purchase at an online clothing store for simply shopping on a cash back rewards site. Unlike coupons, you need to join a cash back website or app, such as Rakuten, Swagbucks, or Ibotta. What’s great about cash back sites is that you can also combine them with other coupons or discounts so that you can save even more money. For example, you can use coupon codes and a cash back website on the same exact purchase.
Coupon code
Coupon codes are combinations of letters and numbers used online to get discounts during checkout (for example, a coupon code could be BLACKFRIDAY123). They are usually tied to a particular product or retailer and can sometimes be used alongside other promotions. You can discover coupon codes on coupon websites, retailer sites, or in promotional emails. Coupon codes are a quick and convenient way to save money on your online purchases, making them a valuable tool for smart shoppers.
Frequently Asked Questions About The Best Coupon Sites
Below are common questions about coupons and how to find the best coupon sites.
What is the best website to get coupons?
My favorite sites to get coupons and discounts include Rakuten, Capital One Shopping, and Upside.
Where do extreme couponers get their coupons?
Extreme couponers get their coupons from many different places, such as newspaper inserts, store sale flyers, online coupon websites like SmartSource, and even by searching on a company’s social media or their website. By using these different sources, extreme couponers can find the most coupons available to them and even build up stockpiles of items at a much lower cost than the retail price.

Where can I find the best printable coupons?
Websites such as Coupons.com, SmartSource, and RetailMeNot have a lot of different printable coupons for use in stores. To find the best printable coupons, you will want to visit these printable coupon websites and search for the products or brands that you want to buy. Of course, always make sure to check the expiration dates and any specific terms and conditions before printing.
What browser extensions can I use to find coupons?
My favorite coupon code browser extension is Capital One Shopping. This type of tool automatically searches for and applies the best coupon codes to your purchase during the checkout process (and then chooses the highest dollar discount), which makes it easy to save money without spending time manually searching for deals and coupon codes (which can be quite annoying and time consuming). Coupon code browser extensions are available to download on different browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and more.

Are you looking for the best sites to scan receipts to make extra money?
In our busy world, who wouldn’t want to earn some extra money without working hard? One way to do this is by taking pictures of your everyday shopping receipts. There are apps for your phone that can turn your regular shopping (whether you’re shopping for groceries, clothes, gas, or other stuff) into cash and gift cards.
Plus, the process of scanning receipts for money is extremely simple.
I have personally been using receipt scanning apps for years now – I love how easy they are to use and how you can earn points or cash while barely spending any time. Plus, I already have the receipts – so it’s nice to make some extra money by doing almost nothing.
Key Takeaways on the best receipt scanning apps
Scanning receipts can earn you cash back and free gift cards.
My favorite receipt scanning and cash back sites include Fetch Rewards, Ibotta, and Rakuten.
Receipt scanning apps pay people to scan receipts for a few different reasons such as: 1) Because brands and stores give the apps money for gathering information about what people buy from their receipts. Then, the apps give a part of this money back to users as rewards. 2) To reward people for shopping through their referral links.
14 Best Apps To Scan Receipts For Money
Below, you’ll find a list of the best apps to scan your receipts and earn money. I am personally signed up for many of the apps and sites listed below, and they are so easy to use!
1. Fetch Rewards
Fetch Rewards is an easy-to-use app that rewards you for scanning your shopping receipts, such as at grocery stores and even gas stations. Just shop as usual, and after your purchase, take a picture of the receipt in the Fetch Rewards app.
You’ll earn points for every receipt you take a picture of, which you can later redeem for free gift cards (such as to places like Target, Visa, and Amazon) and other rewards.
You can sign up for Fetch Rewards here.
I really like this app because it’s super easy to use. I’ve been using it for a while, and it makes getting rewards from your regular shopping easy.
You can also read my review at My Real Fetch Rewards Review.
2. Ibotta
Ibotta is one of the most popular receipt-scanning apps. You select the items you want to buy, go to the store, then scan your receipt.
You can redeem rebates while shopping from stores such as Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix, Walgreens, CVS, City Market, and more.
You can sign up for Ibotta here.
Also, in case you’re wondering how Ibotta and Fetch differ: Fetch Rewards and Ibotta are very similar. All of the receipt-scanning apps are fairly similar too, but they do have some differences.
For example, Fetch Rewards is easier to use than Ibotta. With Fetch Rewards, you just take a picture of your receipt using the app, and that’s it. Ibotta, on the other hand, is more like using digital coupons and takes a few more minutes. Basically, you go through the Ibotta app and see if there are “coupons” that you want to shop with for a specific item like cereal or bread. However, even though there’s a little more work, you can usually earn more rewards with Ibotta. So, it depends on what works best for you!
The great part is that you can use the exact same grocery receipt for both Fetch and Ibotta.
For me, I go shopping and scan my receipts with both apps. It only takes me probably less than a minute to do so, and I can earn more points for free gift cards this way.
3. KashKick
KashKick is a site where you can get rewards for doing things like shopping, answering questions, and playing games online. You can then turn these rewards into real money through PayPal.
Simply head to KashKick and go to their Offers tab. There, you can see if you can unlock any offers where you can scan a receipt for points.

4. Swagbucks
Swagbucks is not only a receipt-scanning app but also a site to make money by taking surveys, watching videos, and more.
You simply go to the Swagbucks website and go to the “Magic Receipts” tab. You can then scan any receipt from any store (grocery stores, warehouse club stores, drugstores, home improvement stores, clothing stores, restaurants, and more) and earn points.
Swagbucks is a company that I started using years ago, and it has helped me easily earn some extra cash on the side, all from home or while traveling. I exchange my points for Amazon gift cards and have earned over 100 free gifts over the years.
Please click here to join Swagbucks.
5. Rakuten
Rakuten is the best cash back app that rewards you for your online purchases. So, it’s technically not a receipt-scanning app, but you do get cash back for shopping just like how you normally would.
All you have to do is choose a store you want to shop from (they have a wide range like Kohl’s, REI, Toys “R” Us, and many more) and shop just like you normally would online. It’s that simple!
Rakuten earns a commission for sending you to the store you shopped at, and they share some of that money back with you as a reward. It’s a win-win!
Please click here to sign up for Rakuten. You can also get a $40 bonus for spending $40 through my link.
6. Upromise
Upromise is a site that helps you save money for college by scanning your receipts.
When you shop at partner stores and upload the receipts, a percentage of your purchase amount is added to a college savings account or used to pay off student loans.
With Upromise Grocery Rewards, you simply add deals to your Upromise Grocery Rewards shopping list and click the “Add To List” button. Then, you shop at the store (either in-person or in-store), and take a picture of your receipt when done. You can either snap and upload your receipt or email it to Upromise directly.
Please click here to learn more about Upromise.
7. Receipt Hog
Receipt Hog is a fun and easy-to-use app that rewards you for scanning your shopping receipts. All you have to do is take a picture of your receipt using the app, and you’ll earn rewards.
You can shop at any store (grocery store, convenience store, and more) and either in-person or online. You can then upload your paper or digital receipt onto the Receipt Hog app for coins, slot spins, or sweepstakes entries.
You can even link your Amazon account or other loyalty accounts like Walmart, Target, and Costco to earn rewards automatically without having to upload receipts.
8. Checkout 51
Checkout 51 is another site where you can get cash back on your groceries and fuel purchases.
You simply download the free app on the App Store or Google Play Store. Then, look at the app to see what deals are available and make a shopping list – it’s kind of like using a digital coupon.
Click on “Redeem” and mark the items you bought on your receipt. Once you’ve done that, use the app’s camera to take clear, readable pictures of your receipt.
Once your receipt gets approved, they’ll add cash back to your account. You can cash out when you reach $20.
9. Tada
Tada is an app that gives you cash back on everyday purchases such as groceries, clothing, and dining out.
Using Tada is easy and you just shop at the stores that are part of the program. After you make a purchase, scan your receipt and you’ll earn cash back on the items that qualify. You can then exchange this for gift cards (such as to Home Depot, Target, Best Buy, Amazon, and Visa).

How Scanning Receipts For Money Works
Many of the receipt-scanning apps mentioned above work the same way:
To begin, just download an app like Fetch or Ibotta. Many of the sites above work whether you have an iPhone, Android, or even just from your computer.
After you finish shopping, open the app and look for the option to upload or scan your receipt. Use your phone’s camera to take a clear picture of the receipt. Typically, the receipt scanner will want to see what you purchased, the store you went shopping at, the order total, as well as the date.
Once you snap a picture of the receipt, the app will usually check and process the receipt. With certain apps like Ibotta, you might need to choose specific items you bought before scanning the receipt. On the other hand, apps like Fetch will automatically scan for eligible products. They each have their own way of doing it!
Your receipt is usually automatically processed, and you will see how many points you have earned within just seconds.
Your points can be turned into PayPal cash, gift cards, and more.
For me, I simply scan every grocery receipt right after I shop. It’s easy to do and only takes me a few moments.
How To Increase Your Earnings From Receipt Scanning
Here are some easy tips to make even more extra money when using receipt-scanning apps and rewards sites:
Use multiple receipt scanning apps – To increase your earnings, you can use more than one receipt-scanning app. This way, you can redeem different deals, cash back, and rewards points that each site gives you.
Download browser extensions – Some apps, like Capital One Shopping, can be downloaded straight to your computer and it will automatically scan for available coupons.
Use store loyalty cards – Most grocery stores have free store loyalty cards. Make sure you are using those to get the lowest prices while shopping, plus you can earn points.
Use cash back credit cards – If you are a careful credit card user and know that you won’t go into debt, credit card rewards can be an easy way to earn more free cash.
Frequently Asked Questions About Scanning Receipts For Money
Here are answers to common questions about scanning receipts for extra money.
How do these receipt scanning apps make money to pay users? Why do receipt scanning sites pay people to scan receipts?
Okay, so after reading the above – this may be your top question. Why would they pay you money? What’s in it for them? Are receipt-scanning apps a scam?
Apps that scan receipts make money by working with brands and stores. These brands and stores give the apps money for gathering important information about what people buy from their receipts (they want to learn more about your shopping behavior – such as what you buy and when). Then, the apps give a part of this money back to users as rewards for using their app.
Are receipt scanning apps safe to use?
Yes, many receipt-scanning apps are safe. They protect your personal information by encrypting it and following strict data protection rules. However, I recommend reading the app’s privacy policy and user reviews (such as on TrustPilot).
Can you make money by scanning receipts?
Yes, you can make money by scanning receipts. You can scan receipts for cash back, gift cards, or points that can be redeemed for rewards. Now, of course, this will not be a full-time income. You can simply earn some spare cash and free gift cards.
What types of rewards can I earn by scanning receipts?
When you scan receipts using these apps, you can earn rewards such as cash back, Amazon gift cards (and many other places), or even make donations to charity.
Is it illegal to scan other people’s receipts for Fetch?
Scanning other people’s receipts for Fetch, or any other receipt-scanning app, is almost always against the app’s terms of service and may result in your account being closed, so you should only use your own receipts.
Can I use more than one receipt scanning app per receipt?
Yes, you can usually use multiple receipt-scanning apps to maximize your rewards. However, make sure to read each app’s terms of service to make sure you’re not violating any rules or participating in actions that could result in account termination. Personally, I use multiple apps all the time for the same receipt, such as Fetch Rewards and Ibotta.

Most of us have experienced getting fired from our jobs at some point in our lives. Some were for petty and weird reasons, others were valid—whichever it is, here are the 18 reasons people get fired!
Caution! Some were so crazy and hilarious that you won’t believe they really happened.
1. Exchanging Alcohol for Shrimp
One person shared, “I gave the fry guy an alcoholic beverage from the bar in a kids cup. He used to hook me up with coconut shrimp and fiesta rolls. They fired both of us lol. I wonder how Jamaar is doing nowadays.”
The second person replied, “I drank alcohol from a kid’s cup and got fired. I just wanted to try Angry Orchard. It wasn’t even good. I made the mistake of leaving the cup amongst other employee cups and a manager found it. I don’t even like drinking and it was just extra. But I am glad I am not the only person let go for drinking alcohol from a kid’s cup out there! Lol.”
2. Manager Scheduled Me During Class
Somebody commented, “My manager kept losing my class schedule. Worked at a subway. I had class two days a week. Several times he put me on those days anyway. I gave him multiple copies every time. Owner took me off the schedule for ‘Calling out too much’. When I showed the owner proof he said it was too late and they already hired someone else. This was 12 years ago. I’m still mad.”
Another Redditor replied, “I always hated the ‘taken off the schedule’ bull. Just fire me officially instead of taking the cowards route. This happened to me as well when I did not tell the general manager about a floor manager switching a product display TV to football one day. To be clear, she asked me, ‘Why did you not tell me?’ So she already knew it happened and was mad that I did not say anything. So I got ‘taken off the schedule’ because the other manager did something against policy and I did not narc.”
3. They Fired Me Before I Started
“A business I went to long ago was hiring, and I got the job. Right after I signed all the paperwork, the department manager comes in and asked who I am. I tell him I was just hired as a temp. Manager says he never authorized any hiring and fired both me and my boss on the spot. I did not work for this company at all, and they fired me,” said one.
The second person replied, “I had a similar experience. I was interviewing for a sales position and I made it all the way up the ladder through three different managers, to the advertising director. Had a great interview. He told me I would be the future of this industry shook my hand, led me to the HR manager’s office, clapped me on the back, and said to her, ‘We’re hiring him. Start the paperwork and I’ll see you Monday.’
“She was pregnant, tired, and annoyed. She looked at me with disgust and said, ‘We eliminated that position yesterday. We’re not hiring anyone.’ I asked if the director or managers knew that. She said they should. What followed was an embarrassing two weeks of promises that they would make a spot for me and weak apologies from the hiring managers. Ooof. Hired and fired within seconds.”
Finally, the third added, “They did you a favor. Working for a company that is broken and dysfunctional would be a nightmare.”
4. I Requested a Raise
One user commented, “I was denied a raise by HR after consistently working 60-70 hours weeks, and my VP (who had supported and requested the raise for me) told me to stop putting in the extra time, work my 40, and spend that extra time applying to new jobs. Within a month, a meeting was called to ‘mutually part ways’ because my work wasn’t getting done. I was gratified to learn that they had to hire two people to do my job after I left.”
Somebody else added, “Bet that felt good knowing they had to pay two people for what you did all by yourself. Glad you got outta there though!”
5. Fired for Putting in My Two-Week Notice
Somebody shared, “I got fired once for putting in my 2-week notice. The only other time I’ve gotten fired was working for a trade company during the first week. I was a supervisor, and there was a second supervisor on site. I got a call that my wife had been rushed to the hospital, which was literally less than a mile away. I asked the other supervisor if I could go to attend to her, and he said, ‘Sure, no problem, I’ve got things here. Go.’
“I returned to the job site later to find the boss there, and he let me go on the spot for leaving the team ‘Without a supervisor’. He knew what had happened, and still fired me. I won’t lie, that one kind of [made me mad].”
Then somebody else added with a similar experience with their wife, “Happened to my wife. She was due her first commission check, but they fired her on the spot when she gave notice. Literally about 100 bucks too.”
6. Fired for Sitting Down
One user said, “For doing my job too quickly and sitting down the rest of the time. Gas station cashier 3rd shift.
“Me: ‘Why should I stand when I’m the only person in the store?’
“Manager: ‘It’s more professional to stand than sit.’
“Me: ‘Then why do you sit in your office?’”
Another one replied, “I never understood that. Not once have I walked into an establishment, seen an employee sitting, and gone, ‘Wow. He’s unprofessional.’ I literally don’t give a f-, as long as you do your job.”
“Especially gas stations. If anything, they’re the kind of jobs I would expect to see someone sitting,” added another.
7. “I’m Only Here Until Something Better Comes Along…”
Somebody shared their hilarious job-related experience during the interview, “This isn’t why I got fired, but this is why I didn’t get a job. I was 16 and looking to work at a Dairy Queen as my first job. My mom drove me to the interview and I was super nervous.
“She looked me in the eye and said, ‘Just be honest and be yourself, and you’ll do fine.’ I walked into that interview, and when he asked me, ‘How long do you think you’ll work here?’ I responded, ‘Until something better comes along…’”
“OMG. My parents had to coach me on how to get a job when I started hunting. They were wondering why none of the jobs I had applied to had called me back so they started asking questions about the application process. Turns out you shouldn’t be honest on those personality assessments, at least not to the extent I was. They basically told me to answer as if I were another person,” added the second person with a similar experience.
Then somebody else added, “Amazing! Around the same age I was asked, ‘How would your friends describe you?’ and honestly answered. ‘They say I’m the crazy one.’ Weirdly did not get that job.”
8. They Handed Me a Check and Walked Me Outside
“I talked my way into a job at a software company when they put a hiring notice in a local paper. I had no idea what the software did. I still don’t. They hired me as a trainer and no one ever explained what the product was. I did a few weeks where I was trained on the software but literally none of it ever made sense to me. It was like they were speaking gibberish.
“One day I showed up, a lady I had never seen before gave me a check, and walked me out to the parking lot. No one even ever said ‘you’re fired’ or anything. It’s one of the strangest things that ever happened to me,” shared somebody.
“That reminds me of a time that I got escorted out early from a group interview. The company was a little suspicious altogether, and the interviewer was even more sus because he was just wearing all black (polo and jeans) and was absolutely decked out in gold jewelry. Looked like he stepped out of a mob movie or something,” the second person replied.
9. Because My Wife Was Ill
One user said, “I missed a lot of work because my wife got brain cancer. They called me in for a meeting and said, ‘Sorry, we are downsizing and letting a lot of people go’. They didn’t fire anyone else, including a co-worker who was caught fabricating reports.”
Then another one added with a question: “They didn’t announce the layoffs over the intercom in alphabetical order, did they?”
10. Job Abandonment; But I Was at the ER
Somebody stated, “I went to the emergency room instead of work. Came back with an ER note and they said, ‘We won’t be needing that. Can you come with us?’ I was 18 and it was my first full-time job.”
“I had pneumonia and a doctor’s note. Came back to work a week later wheezing and puffing an inhaler. Got fired the next week. Jokes on them. I still got unemployment benefits when they tried to fight it. Doctor’s notes are good things,” added another person.
Finally, the third added, “I went to a funeral and took the three paid days off and called off a fourth because it was my grandmother and we were very close. They called it job abandonment.”
11. Working With a Felony
Somebody commented, “My parole officer wanted to make sure I actually had a job, so he went to my employer listed on my file to surprise visit me on the job. I did home wiring so I worked at different job sites and rarely in the office. He called me to say he was going to charge me with a violation for lying to him about my whereabouts (this could’ve landed me back in prison for my remaining 10.5 years sentence).
“The owner of the company had to speak with him and vouch for me. My parole office didn’t charge me, but the owner sure did fire me that day. Finding a job with a felony isn’t an easy thing, and it wasn’t long before my PO threatened to charge me with a violation if I didn’t find a job soon.”
The second person replied, “What a f- clown process. I’m sorry you went through that.”
12. Let Go to Hire the Manager’s Girlfriend
Somebody said, “I was a kid and just started at a local pizza place. I was let go couple weeks later because a pizza chef from Chicago had moved into the area and needed a job so it was a business decision that I totally understood. Week later, went to go get my last check and asked how he was doing, the girl up front was like, ‘pizza chef from Chicago? The only new hire was the manager’s new gf.’”
Somebody else replied, “I got let go in favor of hiring the manager’s gf once too. Very irritating.”
13. Fired for Being 10 Minutes Early Instead of 20
“I refused to come in 15-20 mins early unpaid for my shift. I was always 5-10 min early but they decided they wanted me there earlier. I carried on as normal as I’m not coming in if I’m not being paid. Turned up for a 12pm shift at 11:49, no one would look at me when I arrived, then was thrown in a meeting and fired for being ‘late’. Was out the door before it even hit 12. It was the only time I’ve ever been fired,” shared somebody.
14. Building a Snow Sculpture
“I built a snow scorpion sculpture (I used ketchup for the red glowing eyes and everything) on a particularly miserable day at a ski resort. The guests enjoyed my sculpture very much, management weren’t so happy,” said one.
“Sounds like crap management. Sad. I’m glad to hear you made the guests happy, though,” the second person added.
15. For Sneezing
One person stated, “They sent me home because I sneezed and I was forced to get tested for Covid. Then, when I tested negative, I was terminated for ‘Abusing pandemic policies to stay home.’”
“That has to be illegal in some form,” replied somebody.
16. The CNA Lied About What Happened
“I asked the CNA I was working with to stay with a confused patient, while I went and put a new IV in another patient. The CNA left the patient alone. She fell out of bed and got a big bloody skin tear on her arm. After I took care of that, I went and found the CNA and told her the patient was injured because of her insubordination. The CNA cussed at me, and left the unit. I did not see her again that shift. She and another CNA decided on their own to trade assignments.
“I wrote the CNA up. The CNA went to mgmt and lied about me. She said I called her by a racial slur and yelled at her. I did neither. Mgmt fired me rather than deal with a false claim of racism. I collected unemployment.
“The CNA did something similar with another nurse a couple of weeks later, and was fired. My mgr asked if I could be rehired. HR said no. When my mgr quit to start her own nursing agency a year later, she hired me,” one person stated.
“You can’t pay me enough to go back to work in a nursing home. I have so many stories of problems between nurses and CNA’s getting each other in trouble and the residents caught in the middle,” replied another.
17. They Lowered My Pay So I Slept During My Shift
“They lowered my pay, so I started sleeping at work and did only half the task they wanted me to do. Took them 3 years to fire me,” shared one Redditor.
“I’m amazed at how long it can take sometimes to fire a person. I had a boss who got shoulder surgery and was wildly add*cted to pain meds. Dude would show up to work high as a kite and started at the ceiling for hours. He got away with it for about 2 years before anyone said anything,” the second person replied.
18. I Gave My Employee Meal to My Mother
Somebody commented, “I gave my employee meal to my mother. That’s literally it. I didn’t like eating the food there, so I had my mom bring me lunch, and I just gave my employee meal to her. Apparently, that was considered theft, so I was fired.”
Wow, some of the reasons above for getting fired were just crazy! Did you experience the same? Let us know in the comments!

The Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card is best known for its unique standout feature: the ability to earn rewards with no transaction fee when paying rent. Indeed, the Bilt credit card is a game-changer for renters. Beyond rent, though, how does Bilt compare with a more traditional general-purpose credit card like the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card?
Both cards carry no annual fee. They both earn 3 points per $1 spent on dining, offer cell phone protection and certain travel protections, plus charge no foreign transaction fees. But in most other respects, the benefits of these two cards couldn’t be more different.
The Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card offers a compelling sign-up bonus and introductory APR, while the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card offers neither. But the Bilt credit card, along with its most obvious benefit for renters, earns points that can be transferred to various hotel and airline travel partners, giving the potential for outsize value. Currently, the Autograph offers no such transfers.
Let’s dig into the specifics of each card so you can make the right pick for your lifestyle.

Why the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card is better for renters and travelers
Pay rent with a credit card
The Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card‘s standout feature is its ability to earn rewards on rent payments without any transaction fees. That’s a unicorn in the credit card world, as most cards can’t be used directly toward rent payments without such fees. Previously, renters looking to pile up credit card rewards relied on intermediary services like Plastiq, whose high fees cut into any rewards earned.
Though the benefit caps out at 100,000 points per year, this still makes the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card the obvious choice for renters looking to get more out of their biggest monthly expense. Even if you don’t live in a property that’s part of the Bilt network, you can still charge rent on the card (with no transaction fees) and they’ll mail a check to your landlord.
Transfer to travel partners
Both cards earn points, but only points earned from the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card have the potential for higher value toward travel. Points earned from the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card are worth 1 cent each and can be redeemed for travel, gift cards or statement credits — or when checking out online with PayPal.
Bilt Points are also versatile and can be used toward rent, fitness classes, home decor and even a home downpayment, for varying value. But as a card with no annual fee, the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card stands out for its ability to transfer points at a 1:1 ratio to a wide range of travel partners. Travelers often find greater value than 1 cent each for their points when they transfer this way.
This is a rare perk among no-fee cards, most of which require pairing with a higher-fee card to transfer points. For example, Chase Freedom Flex℠ cardholders can transfer points to travel partners only if they also carry a higher fee card like the $95-annual-fee Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.
Plus, Bilt’s list of travel partners is excellent, including American Airlines, United, Hyatt and IHG. In fact, despite American Airlines issuing co-branded credit cards with both Citibank and Barclays, neither issuer allows transfers of its points to the airline. Here’s a look at the full list of available transfers:
Full list of Bilt transfer partners
Aer Lingus (1:1 ratio).
Air Canada (1:1 ratio).
Air France (1:1 ratio).
American Airlines (1:1 ratio).
British Airways (1:1 ratio).
Cathay Pacific (1:1 ratio).
Emirates (1:1 ratio).
Hawaiian Airlines (1:1 ratio).
Hyatt (1:1 ratio).
Iberia Airlines (1:1 ratio).
IHG (1:1 ratio).
Marriott (1:1 ratio).
Turkish Airlines (1:1 ratio).
United (1:1 ratio).
Virgin Atlantic (1:1 ratio).
Bonus points in several categories, with an extra boost on “Rent Day”
Beyond rent payments, the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card earns solid rewards on a variety of everyday expenses. That includes 5x points on Lyft rides, 3x points on dining, 2x points on travel and 1x on all other purchases.
But Bilt’s biggest benefit to cardholders comes on the first day of each month, when point values double for all nonrent categories, up to a cap of 10,000 bonus points per month. On that day, Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card holders earn 6x points on dining, 4x on travel purchases and 2x on everything else.
Why you may prefer the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card
Snag a sign-up bonus
Like many more traditional rewards credit cards, the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card greets new users with an attractive new cardholder bonus: Limited Time Offer: Earn 30,000 bonus points when you spend $1,500 in purchases in the first 3 months – that’s a $300 cash redemption value.
The Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card, on the other hand, offers no bonus for new cardholders, meaning it will take longer to rack up the same level of rewards.
Pay over time with 0% introductory APR
The Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card is also the better pick for cardholders who need to finance purchases over time. Currently, new cardholders will get 0% intro APR on Purchases for 12 months from account opening, and then the ongoing APR of 20.24%, 25.24%, or 29.99% Variable APR .
Since the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card doesn’t offer an introductory interest rate, it’s a less attractive choice for cardholders who need some breathing room on interest.
Earn higher rewards on travel, gas stations and streaming services
Both cards earn 3x points at restaurants, but the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card wins by a nose on travel purchases, earning 3x points per $1 spent compared with 2x with Bilt.
The Autograph also earns 3x points on certain popular streaming services and phone plans. Bilt’s baseline earnings rate for these categories is just 1 point per $1 spent — but you can bump that up to 2x points per dollar by setting these recurring bills to be charged on the first of every month.
When it comes to fueling your vehicle, though, the Autograph really races ahead on rewards, earning 3x points at gas stations and EV charging stations. For comparison, the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card earns a modest 1 point per dollar spent in these categories.
Potential tie-breakers
Still can’t decide which card is right for you? Here are a few minor points of distinction to consider.
Simplicity of earning rewards
A major downside of the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card is its transaction requirement. According to the card’s terms, you must complete five transactions per billing period to earn any rewards. That means if you only make four transactions on the card one month, you won’t earn rewards on any of those purchases. There’s no minimum spend per transaction, but this does present an extra hoop to make sure you maximize your rewards.
The Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card won’t earn you rewards on rent, but it also doesn’t include any such complicated requirements.
Metal vs. plastic
If you have strong preferences about the feel of the card, it’s worth noting that the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card comes in a sleek metal design, adding some sophistication to your wallet. The Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card is plastic, making it a lighter weight to carry.
Which card should you get?
The distinction here is pretty clear. If you’re a renter, the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card is the obvious choice. No other card offers comparable rewards on rent payments, and the card’s additional rewards plus travel partners make it a good value on everyday spending as well.
Not a renter? The Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card will provide more overall value on everyday spending.
Then again, given that both cards carry no annual fee, renters with good credit may choose to pick up one of each. Use the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card for rent, Lyft rides and to pick up extra rewards on the first day of each month. For the rest of the month, the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card will earn you higher rewards in most categories, along with a strong intro APR and sign-up bonus.

When cityapproval of a proposed $350 million skyscraper in downtown Los Angeles was on the line, project manager Hamid Behdad knew he had to give in to the last-minute demand of a planning commissioner to quadruple the number of electric vehicle charging stations in the condominium tower.
“When you are in the heat of the hearing in the last leg of the proposal, you aren’t going to say no,” Behdad said, even though he thought the requirement was overkill.
Today, with the Perla on Broadway complete and angling for buyers, Behdad said he is “extremely glad that commissioner forced us” to install chargers on 20% of the building’s parking stalls.
“If we didn’t have these 90 chargers, we would be in real trouble selling units,” he said.
Landlords of apartments, hotels, office buildings and other commercial properties are rushing to avoid similar trouble. And owners of convenience stores, fast food chains, movie theaters and big box retailers are hoping to cash in on EV chargers to lure customers with time to kill as they fill up.
Charging centers are just the first step of commercial landlords scrambling to adjust to a historic burst of change in the world of transportation, with once fantastical notions like autonomous cars and air taxis nearing fruition.
Some companies are building charging centers that are a giant step beyond electrified gas stations. Elon Musk’s Tesla, for instance, is building a whimsical drive-in movie and diner complex in Hollywood where Tesla owners can entertain themselves while loading their batteries.
Fancy L.A. shopping centers such as the Grove and Westfield Century City have chargers, as do the more workaday Walgreens, Walmarts, Subways and 7-Elevens.
The arrival of Tesla’s Model 3 and other more affordable electric vehicles are helping EVs seize market share from gas-powered vehicles, putting more pressure on the historically slow-changing real estate business to get with the times.
The immediate issue is installing enough chargers to meet growing demand and seize business opportunities. But other advances in transportation technology stand to rewrite centuries-old rules about how buildings are designed and built.
When cars no longer spew toxic fumes and can park and drive themselves, hotel and office lobbies might be designed for cars to drop off people inside and go off and do their own thing. In the not-too-distant future when visitors arrive by electric air taxis, buildings might need a second entrance lobby on the roof for the drones to land. Los Angeles officials are planning for such flying vehicles to be operational by the 2028 Olympics and are looking at how to regulate them.
“What happens when you blur boundaries between automobiles and architecture?” said Dylan Jones, a strategic planner specializing in mobility for architecture firm Gensler. “Do you need a garage in the building? Can you sell your car’s energy” to your landlord?
Such technological shifts could require dramatically different building designs, but few developers are looking that far ahead, he said. It’s the nature of the business that typically operates in five-year cycles of building and selling.
“The real estate industry is funny because developers don’t want to speculate about the far future,” Jones said. Developers “want to be able to just peek around the corner and see what’s coming” and be set up to succeed with technology that will exist when the building opens.
Los Angeles developer Walter N. Marks III sees a lure in new technology for a luxury apartment tower he is planning on Wilshire Boulevard with a mechanized parking system that will whisk cars out of sight and charge them if desired.
Tenants will drive their cars onto a movable metal pallet that will quickly park them underground andpower up electric vehicles if the resident plugs it in.
Marks is already operating a mechanized parking system at Helms Bakery District, a historic collection of shops and restaurants his family owns in Culver City. It doesn’t charge cars, but in the future he wouldn’t install a system that didn’t, he said.
All new automobiles and light trucks sold in California will be required to be zero-emission by 2035. The electric age is here. But the autonomous one is less certain. Marks is skeptical of predictions that consumers will give up their private automobiles in the near future and rely on fleets of robot taxis to ferry them about.
“I do believe that the car culture in Los Angeles is unique and very powerful,” he said. “People take their cars extremely seriously, and I think we need to recognize that and honor it.”
Jones thinks attitudes about driving your own car may change quickly when autonomous vehicles are reliably safe and data show that people are more likely to be killed by human-driven vehicles than autonomous ones.
“Drivers will become the smokers of the future; they’ll be socially shunned,” he said. “People will look at them and say , ‘Oh, you drove to work today? My kids are on the street. What are you doing?’”
That era is yet to come. At this point, the push is on among housing developers to provide charging stations to the growing number of tenants demanding them.
Socially conscious housing developer Cityview is rushing to add them to its existing apartments, including a building with only eight units, Chief Executive Sean Burton said.
Cityview usually adds as many stations as existing buildings’ electrical systems can handle, he said. Properties that weren’t constructed with charging in mind are often limited in how much power they can supply to chargers.
“In general I think building owners are adopting more slowly than they should,” Burton said. “We try to be more leading edge on sustainability issues.”
An apartment management company that manages 76,000 units for various owners is racing to meet rising demand in part by retrofitting garage electrical outlets to handle 210 volts for Level 2 charging, said Jackie Impellitier, vice president of operations for ZRS Management. That is the common commercial system for charging that takes about three to eight hours. The price of charging is added to tenants’ electrical bills.
“The thing we are all acknowledging is having charging stations is no longer an amenity, it’s a necessity” to attract and keep tenants, she said. “We are going to start losing renters if we don’t have easy and convenient access” to charging.
Most apartment developers and owners “weren’t even paying attention to EV drivers” as a category of tenants five years ago, Impellitier said, when Tesla stood practically alone as the provider of electric vehicles. “Now, every carmaker has an electric model.”
Charging stations are commonly installed and operated by third-party vendors. The big expense for landlords is getting sufficient electricity to garages and parking lots to support Level 2 charging. (The lower Level 1, plugging into a common 120-volt electrical outlet, can take more than a day if you’re charging from empty).
Level 3 chargers that can charge a car sufficiently in as little as 20 minutes run on at least 400 volts. They are expensive to set up and require electrical infrastructure not typically found in residential buildings
Automotive data provider S&P Global Mobility estimated in January that there are about 126,500 Level 2 and 13,487 Level 3 commercial charging stations in the United States today, plus another 16,822 Tesla Superchargers and Tesla destination chargers. The number of chargers grew more in 2022 than in the preceding three years combined, S&P said.
Among them are chargers at fast-food and other convenience businesses that hope customers buy things while their cars charge. Earlier this year 7-Eleven Inc. said it intends to build one of the largest fast-charging networks of any retailer in North America and already has chargers in four states, including California. Drivers pay through a phone app.
“7-Eleven will have the ability to grow its network to match consumer demand and make EV charging available to neighborhoods that have, until now, lacked access,” the company said in a statement.
Sandwich maker Subway is rolling out a variation on the theme — charging “parks” with multiple charging stations that also happen to have restaurants. These Subway Oasis charging parks will have picnic tables, Wi-Fi, restrooms, green space and playgrounds, the company said. They’ll be rolled out across the country at new or newly remodeled locations
Drug store chain Walgreens claims to be “the nation’s largest retail host” of chargers with more than 430 locations offering them. Other household-name retailers installing chargers include Ikea, Kohl’s, Walmart, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Taco Bell and theater chain Cinemark.
Additional concepts for charging stations with retail services intended to attract customers with time to kill are emerging.
Tesla, the giant of the EV industry with a growing network of fast chargers, is rolling out what it calls a supercharger diner and drive-in theater in Hollywood that promises an “American Graffiti” style pit stop for Tesla drivers perhaps running 24 hours a day.
Tesla is constructing the charging and entertainment complex on Santa Monica Boulevard — historic Route 66 — near a trendy stretch of Sycamore Avenue that has celebrity-favored restaurants, upscale shops and art galleries.
The car maker paid $16.7 million last year for a corner lot at Orange Drive where a shuttered Shakey’s Pizza Parlor was demolished to make way for the two-story project that could become an iconic venture for Tesla. The plan calls for a restaurant and two movie screens showing features that last half an hour, roughly the time it takes to charge a vehicle.
The complex is to have 29 fast superchargers and five Level 2 chargers available around the clock, while the theaters, visible from both cars and rooftop seating, would operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. A screen of bamboo would shield Tesla’s movies from the street.
On the I-15 freeway between L.A. and Las Vegas, the developers of a charging station set to open in January expect to charge around 10,000 vehicles per month. The 24-hour outpost will have 40 fast charging station around a yet-to-be-announced nationally known coffee seller, said Lester Ciudad Real, co-founder of StackCharge, which is developing the project near a freeway exit in Baker.
The opportunity to charge while parked at the office has also emerged as a must for tenants. A recent survey by real estate brokerage JLL found that tenant-demanded clauses calling for charging were among the least likely to be included in existing office space leases signed in years past but would be the top priority in future negotiations.
But office building owners are stuck trying to strike the right balance. They must keep up with growing demands without overspending on chargers that aren’t needed yet, said Rex Hamre, national director of sustainability for JLL. It’s usually easy to add up to 10 stations, but trying to make even 20% of the spaces charge-ready in a 600-car parking facility could incur steep costs for electrical infrastructure.
“We are still at the cutting edge of this transition,” Hamre said. “Innovative companies are taking advantage of it as an opportunity.”
EV refueling could lead to changes in how cities look in ways that have yet to be fully imagined, architect Jones said. Gas stations in prime urban locations could give way to hybrid buildings with coffee bars, co-working offices and meeting rooms, built around indoor charging points.
“Word Perfect made typing easier, and then computers became more ingrained and it did things a typewriter could never do,” Jones said. “We’re in the early stages where the first EV charging infrastructure we’re seeing is a replication of what we understand is a refueling station. But in the future they’re going to look and feel much different.”

Looking to know where to cash coins for free near you?
Saving coins can be a great way to save money without even noticing it. However, when you end up with a jar full of loose change, finding an easy way to cash in your coins without paying a fee can feel like a challenge. Places that have free coin cashing services do exist, so you can enjoy the full value of the money that you have saved.
In this article, I will be talking about places where you can exchange your coins for free near you. We’ll also discuss the pros and cons of using Coinstar machines and tips on how to find coin exchanges in your area. Rolling coins might be an option for you too, and I will explain how to wrap coins as well.
Key Takeaways
Several places will cash coins without charging a fee.
Local banks and credit unions are a great choice for coin exchange.
Coinstar machines are a popular option but may come with a fee. They do have many no fee e-gift cards, though.
Rolling your coins and using free services from banks can save you money.
9 Places To Cash Coins For Free (Or Cheap!)
Finding the right place to exchange your coins can make a big difference. It’s not just about convenience, it’s about keeping more of your money too. Many people hoard coins without realizing the actual value. Dumping your coins into the first machine you see can cost you.
Did you know that some coin exchange machines charge up to 11.9% to convert your change into cash? If you have $100 in coins, that’s nearly $12 lost. It might not seem like much initially, but imagine losing $12 for every $100 in coins you have.
That’s why it’s important to choose the best place to convert your coins into cash. Below are the best places to cash coins for free near you.
1. Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo is a popular bank that allows you to cash your coins for free if you are a customer. You can visit your local branch and ask the teller for help with processing your coins to get cash in return.
2. Credit unions
Credit unions are similar to banks and also have coin exchange services for their members at no additional cost. There are some credit unions that don’t charge for nonmembers as well, so you may be able to call around and see if there is one near you that can exchange your coins for cash for you.
3. Bank of America
As one of the largest banks in the United States, Bank of America allows its customers to cash coins for free. They do require that your coins be rolled, so you will have to remember to do that first.
4. Chase
Chase is another popular banking institution where you can cash your coins without any extra fees. However, you need to be a Chase customer to access this service. Before you go, though, make sure to check Chase’s branch location to make sure that they accept coins as there are some locations that do not.
5. US Bank
If you have an account with U.S. Bank, you can cash your coins free of charge. Just bring your coins and account details to the branch, and their staff can help you. You don’t even need to roll your coins either.
6. QuikTrip
QuikTrip is a convenience store and gas station chain that often allows you to cash your coins for free. Depending on the location, QuikTrip may or may not charge service fees for coin exchanges. QuikTrip’s coin exchange program is a great option for those who need to cash coins quickly without the hassle of becoming a bank member.
They do this because there is a shortage of coins, and they are in need of coins. I do recommend rolling them ahead of time so that you are saving everyone time.
7. Target
Target stores with Coinstar machines allow you to cash your coins for a fee (generally 11.9% or more). Coinstar machines are convenient and can be found in many places.
8. Citi Bank
As a large financial institution, Citibank also permits its customers to cash coins for free. Visit your local branch with your account details and coins, and their staff will help you with converting your coins into cash.
9. Coinstar coin counting machines
I wanted Coinstar to have its own section in this article because it is so well-known as a coin counting machine. Whether you have just some loose change or if you have a busting piggy bank, Coinstar does make it easy.

How to roll coins
If you want to turn your coins into cash, then you may want to learn how to roll coins.
Rolling coins can be an easy way to organize and store your loose change, making it easier to cash them in for free at banks or credit unions. This can help you save on any fees that might be charged by coin counting machines.
First, gather all the coins you’d like to roll. Separate them by denomination (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters) to make the process easier. Next, you’ll need coin rolls, which are paper or plastic tubes designed to hold a specific number of coins. You can often find these at your local bank or credit union, or buy coin wrappers online on Amazon. These rolls not only help you keep track of your savings but also make it easier for places to accept your coins.
Once you have your coin rolls, start filling them with the appropriate coins. Be sure to use the correct roll for each denomination, as follows:
Pennies: 50 per roll
Nickels: 40 per roll
Dimes: 50 per roll
Quarters: 40 per roll
After filling the rolls, fold or twist the open ends to secure the coins inside. It’s important to have the correct number of coins in each roll to have accurate counting when you take them to the bank.
Now that your coins are rolled, you can cash them in for free at various locations. Banks and credit unions are often the best places to exchange coins, especially if you’re an account holder. It’s always a good idea to call ahead and confirm that they accept rolled coins. Some institutions may have specific requirements for accepting rolled coins, such as labeling the rolls with your account number or providing a deposit slip.
In addition, some stores or gas stations might cash coins for free during a coin shortage, like QuikTrip. Be sure to keep an eye out for such opportunities in your area.
By taking the time to roll your coins, you’re not only organizing your spare change but also potentially improving your overall savings. Rolling coins is a simple process that can provide a great way to turn your loose coins into cash without any additional fees.

When was the last time you turned your coins into cash?
Merrick Bank issues credit cards designed for consumers who are building credit. Payment activity on the cards is reported to the three major credit bureaus, meaning careful card use can help you establish your credit over time.
Indeed, credit-building is the main benefit of the Merrick Bank credit cards. There are no other perks, like a 0% interest promotion or cash-back rewards. Plus, you may be on the hook for a few pricey fees, making other starter credit cards or cards for bad credit more appealing options to consider.
Here are five things to know about the Merrick Bank credit cards.
1. There are two Merrick Bank credit cards
Merrick Bank issues two credit cards:
The Merrick Bank Classic Secured Credit Card, which requires a security deposit of $200 to $3,000.
The Merrick Bank Double Your Line Credit Card, an unsecured card that automatically doubles your credit limit after the first seven months if you make at least the minimum payment on time each month.
2. You may need an offer by mail to apply
The Merrick Bank Double Your Line Credit Card requires a mailed offer before you can apply. Enter the certificate number that appears in the offer to start the application. You can also search for your certificate number by entering your last name, last four digits of your Social Security number and ZIP code on the card’s website.
You can apply for the Merrick Bank Classic Secured Credit Card online without a mail offer.
3. Get ready to pay some fees
For the Merrick Bank Classic Secured Credit Card, the annual fee is $36 for the first year, after which the fee is still $36, but it’s charged in monthly increments of $3. As of this writing, the APR is more than 22%.
Things get a little pricier with the Merrick Bank Double Your Line Credit Card. It charges high interest rates — as of this writing, the variable APR tops out at nearly 31%. Plus, there are a couple of potential fees you may have to pay depending on what Merrick Bank determines: a one-time account setup fee of $0 to $75, and an annual fee of $0 to $72 (billed at up to $6 monthly after the first year).
High interest rates and fees are common for unsecured credit cards for bad credit. However, depending on what you can qualify for, you may find other cards’ fees to be more affordable.
4. Neither card offers perks
The main benefit of both of these cards is access to credit and the ability to build credit through careful use. And the Merrick Bank Double Your Line Credit Card will, as its name implies, bump up your credit limit after a few months. Otherwise, there are no cash-back rewards or sign-up bonuses to sweeten the deal.
There are alternatives that offer more extras, even for those who are newer to credit-building. The Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card has a $0 annual fee and earns 1.5% cash back on all purchases. It has a $200 minimum deposit, and you can be automatically considered for a credit limit increase after six months.
The Discover it® Secured Credit Card also has a $0 annual fee and $200 minimum deposit. It earns 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants on up to $1,000 in combined spending per quarter (then 1% back), and 1% cash back on everything else. New cardholders can also get this sign-up bonus: INTRO OFFER: Unlimited Cashback Match – only from Discover. Discover will automatically match all the cash back you’ve earned at the end of your first year! There’s no minimum spending or maximum rewards. Just a dollar-for-dollar match.
5. There are no other Merrick Bank credit cards to graduate to
As you more firmly establish your credit history, you’ll potentially become eligible for a greater variety of credit cards, including rewards cards with more appealing benefits. However, you won’t be able to stick with Merrick Bank credit cards if you eventually want those extras. And even though unsecured cards are the typical next step after secured cards, the Merrick Bank Double Your Line Credit Card faces some serious competition from lower-fee cards with more to offer.
