The co-owners of a Yakima-based online business offering home décor, gifts and other hosting and kitchen items have opened a brick-and-mortar location in Glenwood Square.
Lexi Borton and Morgan Robinson began their online Table Envy “tablescape” rental business in 2020, just as the COVID pandemic shifted many gatherings from public places to private homes. It provided the items and décor necessary to host parties and other events.
That business led to Tavolo Shoppe, which offers many of the Table Envy rental items for sale. Those include charcuterie boards, dough boards, glassware, linens and pantry items.
Borton said other popular items at Tavolo, the Italian word for “table,” include candles, ceramics, spices and pillows.
After establishing Tavolo online in October, a physical location in Glenwood Square became available. The shopping center at 5110 W. Tieton Drive in Yakima is housed in a refurbished fruit warehouse and includes several restaurants, stores and services such as beauty salons.
“We love this space. We feel like it really fits our style,” Borton said of the Glenwood Square building. “Being in a place with a lot of restaurants and retail businesses has been fun. It allows us to meet a lot more people.”
Tavolo opened its Glenwood Square location in mid-June and is located on the first floor in Suite 220, immediately inside Entrance 1 on the west side of the building. It is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call 509-206-8766 or visit tavoloshoppe.com for more information.
Reflecting on 2022, more than half of retailers said sales were up over 2021, which was considered to be a banner year buoyed by pandemic-fueled shopping. But expectations for how this year will turn out are less optimistic, with just 37% expecting another year of sales growth.
Nearly one-third of respondents to the Strategic Insights Home Accents Today survey expect 2023 to produce lower sales than the previous year, and nearly as many see them as flat. In last year’s survey, more than half (53%) predicted sales would stay the same this year.
One action the majority of retailers (59%) took in 2022 was to raise prices. The survey found 44% boosted tags by 6% to 10%, and one-quarter hiked them between 11% and 15%. For 2023, 26% of respondents have already raised prices or plan to do so, while the same percentage are putting off an increase, leaving about half (48%) as undecided.
Among those who did opt for higher pricing, all of them said they did so to pass along increases that came from their vendors. Nearly three-quarters (71%) also cited inflation as a leading cause, while factors such as warehouse costs and supply chain played a much smaller role.
A couple of elements that could influence sales into the future are the growing popularity of sustainable and handmade goods. Products with a sustainability story were deemed very or somewhat important to their customers by 41% of those surveyed, prompting nearly one-fifth of retailers to say they seek out such items at markets.
Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of respondents said they already carry handmade or artisan products in their stores. A little more than one-third (35%) devote between 5% and 10% of their inventory to artisan goods, while an evenly divided 24% said these items account for 11% to 20% or 21% to 30% of total inventory.
About the data
The information shared here is based on a Home Accents Today online survey of home accent, home and gift and interior designer-run retail stores and full-line furniture retailer readers of Home Accents Today and Furniture Today, fielded in June and July 2023. The research was conducted and analyzed by Strategic Insights. Based on the sample size, the survey results are considered qualitative rather than quantitative.

Here’s a shift: Some home décor wholesale prices are dropping
a new study on the phenomenon, in an interview with the Washington Post.
But prioritizing the perceived preferences of the general public over personal décor desires, it turns out, is a formula for anxiety, detachment and feeling out of place in a place meant to be yours.
“It really makes people feel quite uneasy about the decisions that they make in their home, and so they’re always kind of fearful about getting it wrong,” Grant added.
Yet, the takeaway message from hit renovation shows seems clear: Unique, cluttered and unconventional spaces have less mass appeal and a lower resale value, so consider the next homeowner first when making renovations.
(HGTV did not return The Post’s request for comment.)
Of the 17 individuals who were involved in the study’s research, the majority said they wanted to be seen as a “smart homeowner who has invested in my home” and avoid distinct, potentially polarizing design choices, Grant said.
One individual told the study authors she believed the reason she’d gotten so much positive feedback on her renovated bathroom was because it looked “like a hotel.”
In another era, or to a less-conformist homeowner, this would certainly have been taken as something of a diss, a comment on the bathroom’s generic sameness.
In a world that apparently believes standardization is superior, though, it’s now a compliment.

Digital textile printing offers several advantages over traditional dyeing, starting with its ability to reduce waste and address the water pollution caused by dyeing, which is known as the second leading global water polluter.
Further, the agility & flexibility of digital production and textile printing allow manufacturers to efficiently handle both small boutique orders and large retail orders using the same equipment, making it an attractive option.
With a lower cost per print and the convenience of print-on-demand, fast production is possible, enabling profitability from orders of any quantity with just a single button push.
Digital textile printing provides designers with nearly limitless graphic and color capabilities, surpassing traditional printing technologies. This freedom allows designers to unleash their creativity and produce unique designs.
The benefits extend to the supply chain as well. Meeting production and shipping deadlines become easier with digital printing, thereby preventing overstocking. Thrift shopping is a great way to spruce up your home decor without breaking the bank. What’s great about thrift stores is that many of them also have an eclectic collection of items that you can either use as-is or alter in some way to make them suitable for your home. Not only does this give you a huge amount of creative freedom when picking out your home decor, but it’s also a fun way to design a home that has a look that’s uniquely yours.
Whether you’re a thrift shopper yourself, or you’re starting to see the value of thrifting, here are some of the top home decor items that you should buy the next time you go shopping.
Big Furniture
“If you’re looking to furnish your home, you can find some incredible deals at thrift stores on dressers, dining tables, chairs, and more,” said Samantha Landau, consumer expert at TopCashback. Other pieces of furniture you can find include coffee tables, bedside tables and even ottomans.
“Sometimes, these items need a bit of refurbishment or additional pieces before they can be functional, but that isn’t always the case,” Landau said. “For example, you may be able to find a nice wooden dining table at a Goodwill without the chairs, or you may get lucky and find a full dining set that includes chairs — so it’s important to be patient when thrifting for larger furniture items because you never know what’s going to be in stock when you go to shop.”
Mirrors
Mirrors are another essential part of any home’s decor. They can go in the bathroom, hallway, master bedroom, guest room or even in the living room. And if you’re looking for an assortment of designs and shapes, thrift stores won’t disappoint. You may need to buff or repaint the frames, depending on what you’re going for and the current quality.
Lamps and Other Light Fixtures
Not only are lamps and other light fixtures a common feature in thrift stores, but they’re also a fun way to decorate your home. You can often find simple table lamps or standing lamps, but your local thrift store may also have fun or funky options in various colors and shapes.
Artwork
The types of art you can find when thrifting range from clay bowls to acrylic or watercolor paintings to figurines. Whatever the case, many thrift stores carry different types of artwork that you won’t see anywhere else. And since art is a key part of making your home unique, chances are you’ll be able to pick out some pieces that nobody else has.
Picture Frames
Picture frames can be pricey, especially if you go to a big retailer like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. The cost depends on things like the frame size and material. For example, a simple 5-by-5-inch picture frame from Michael’s costs around $5. Larger picture frames or ones made with higher quality materials tend to come with a higher price tag.
But if you go to a place like Goodwill, you can typically save money on picture frames. This is especially beneficial if you have a lot of photos that need frames, or if you want something with a different style.
Holiday-Themed Decorations
Thrift shops are a good place to find items that are meant for a holiday that’s already passed. Instead of paying full price for things like Christmas lights, an artificial tree or holiday-themed decor, you can hit up a local thrift store and start preparing for the next holiday.
The same goes for off-season items as many thrift stores carry off-season home decor and other items. For instance, you may be able to find a winter tablecloth in spring or a fall-themed kitchen mat.
Vases and Pitchers
From hard plastic to glass to ceramic, thrift shops often have vases — some of which have a distinctly vintage look. Some also carry pitchers, which you can either use to water your plants or hold flowers and other small household plants.
Dishes and Other Kitchenware
Whether you’re looking for a new coffee mug with a neat design or you’re ready to replace your current serving dishes with something different, check out the local thrift store. You can find anything from vintage styles to modern ones.
Other types of kitchenware to scope out the next time you go shopping include cutting boards, coffee pots, plates, bowls, glasses and other kitchen appliances or accessories.
Suitcases and Bags
When you think of home decor, you might not immediately think of suitcases or other types of luggage. But you can add a lot of style to any room with some strategically-positioned suitcases and bags. You can use them to store old mementos or sentimental family items. Or you can prop them open and put your keepsakes on display.
Baskets and Bins
Bins and baskets come in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles, so there’s a good chance you’ll see something you like when thrifting. For example, you might find a set of wicker baskets that you can keep towels, pillows or sheets in. Or you could score a couple of bins for your child’s — or pet’s — toys.
Rugs and Mats
Nothing ties a room together quite like a couple of well-placed rugs and mats. As with any fabric, you’ll want to thoroughly clean any of these that you pick up second-hand. And you may need to keep an eye out for stains, holes and other signs of wear and tear. But otherwise, thrifting can do wonders for your home decor.
Where To Go Thrift Shopping
When it comes to thrift shopping, there are plenty of cool places to check out. “The typical thrift stores, like Goodwill and Salvation Army, are a great place to start, but you’ll also want to consider any locally-run thrift stores,” Landau said. “These local stores often give you the best finds when it comes to home decor because people who are donating items typically associate Goodwill and Salvation Army as clothing-only thrift shops. And sometimes, these thrift chain stores only accept clothing depending on the size of the store, so keep that in mind as you’re hunting for home decor deals.”
Another option is the Facebook Marketplace, since you can often find furniture, home decor, dishes and similar items there. A lot of people selling on this platform are in a rush, and so they sell these goods at a steep discount — especially if you’re willing to pick them up.
“Regardless of where you end up thrifting, you might not find what you’re looking for on your first trip, so you’ll want to regularly stop in to see what they have,” Landau said. “You should also consider expanding the range of local thrift stores that you visit to a 50-mile radius, for example. This will give you plenty of options to find the best items for your needs, style and budget.”
A BELOVED home décor store is closing its doors just five months after opening – and an unusual law may be to blame, says the company.
World Market has become famous for its variety of modern and unique décor since it opened in February in Fairfax County, Virginia, easily making it a rival of retail giants such as Target.
However, the company announced the store would be closing this week, reported the Washington Business Journal.
“World Market lost their lease and relocated the store to a new nearby location on a temporary lease, with a clause that they would vacate if the landlord found a full-time tenant,” a spokesperson for World Market told the outlet.
“They did, and therefore closing this new location.”
The store’s last day of business is July 15, according to Northern Virginia Magazine, however, it could close even sooner.
An employee told the outlet that the store had been largely empty since July 5.
Meanwhile, the oldest brewery in America has called it quits after 127 years in business.
Anchor Brewing — the country’s first craft brewery — announced Wednesday that it is shutting down.
Brewing has already stopped, but the beer that’s on hand will continue to be sold through the end of the month.

Anchor Brewing has been a staple in San Francisco for over a century but hasn’t been able to overcome a series of issues that started several years ago.
Executives at the company attributed the closing to “a combination of challenging economic factors and declining sales since 2016,” according to a press release.
“This was an extremely difficult decision that Anchor reached only after many months of careful evaluation,” said Sam Singer, Anchor Brewing spokesperson.
“We recognize the importance and historic significance of Anchor to San Francisco and to the craft brewing industry, but the impacts of the pandemic, inflation, especially in San Francisco, and a highly competitive market left the company with no option but to make this sad decision to cease operations.”
LAS VEGAS – Home décor resources are expanding at the Las Vegas Market with four updates bringing a range of fresh accents and accessories to the more than 150 resources throughout Buildings B and C at Las Vegas Market.
“On the heels of a very successful Spring High Point Market, leading brands are looking to Las Vegas Market to tap into a west coast clientele,” said Dorothy Belshaw, Andmore (formerly known as IMC) executive vice president and chief growth officer. “Summer 2023 updates, which total more than 42,000 square feet of new and expanded permanent showrooms, reflect the depth and breadth of décor resources available to retailers and designers at Las Vegas Market this summer.”
Building C welcomes two new showrooms: Balta Rugs (area, outdoor and kids’ rugs) in more than 4,500 square feet; and FGA (preserved trees and floral arrangements) in a new more than 900 square foot showroom.
Three expansions – Chandra (handcrafted rugs); D.V. KAP Home (decorative pillows and textiles); and Uttermost (decorative mirrors, art, lamps, accessories, botanicals, lighting, rugs and accent furniture) – allow for line extensions within existing showrooms in Buildings B and C.
“We have been looking to expand for a few years now and have been waiting for the right space to suit our locational and product needs,” said Peter Sivas, director of marketing for D.V. KAP Home. “Since our line has over 4,000 SKUs, the expanded showroom gives our customers the ability to see more of our offerings in person while also allowing space to introduce new products.”
Las Vegas Market charter exhibitor Uttermost also expands this summer – 11 years after the brand’s debut in Las Vegas. “By moving our cafe and Salt & Light presentation to the new space, Revelation can show more of our great new additions,” said Uttermost president Mac Cooper.
Complementing the permanent showrooms are more than 30 décor brands located in temporary exhibits in the Expo at World Market Center Las Vegas. Notable exhibitors include Fire & Pine (wall art); The Ivy Guild Inc. (faux plants); Jitana (handmade home décor); Linen + Cloth (new “vintage” art and pillows); Little Birdie (decorative pillows); Luxe B Pampas Grass Inc. (pampas grass for home décor); and Rug & Kilim (rugs).
The Summer 2023 Las Vegas Market is July 30 – August 3, 2023, at World Market Center Las Vegas.
One of the most popular retail powerhouses just opened two new locations in New Jersey to spread more joy to your home décor.
Homegoods is everyone’s favorite place to shop when it comes to decorating their house, but there’s so much more to the place.
Need a rug? How about new bath towels or bed sheets? Looking for a new mirror to replace your old one? Does your kid want to redecorate their room to a Spiderman theme? All of these things can be found at Homegoods.
You can even find a new bed for your pet or buy a bag of homemade pasta to cook for dinner that night.
One of my go-to items to buy at Homegoods is bags of Joffrey’s coffee. I’ve never seen them sold in any other store so I make sure to stock up.
The fun part about Homegoods is their front display of items depending on the season. If you were to walk into one of their stores right now, you would be smothered in July 4th and BBQ essentials.
There are 45 Homegoods locations in New Jersey and the latest two to open are in:
Flanders
50 International Dr. S.
Edgewater
489 River Rd.
Homegoods can be hit or miss so if you’re looking for something in particular, make sure you visit a different location if your nearest one doesn’t carry it.
