Want to learn how to make money online without paying anything? Here are ways to earn money online for free.
Making money online without putting in money up front is doable for many people. Thanks to the growth of online jobs and businesses, you can make extra money or create a full-time job from home.
It doesn’t matter if you’re skilled or just getting started – there are ways to make money without paying anything at the beginning. You can use your creativity and skills in things like making content, providing digital services, and selling stuff online to make a steady income.
I personally have made money online in many different ways without paying anything to get started, so I know that this truly does exist.
Best Ways To Make Money Online Without Paying Anything
Here’s a quick summary of my favorite ways to make money without investment:
Best way to make money online freelancing – Proofreading
My favorite way to make money online for free – Blogging
Best way to make money online for passive income – Selling printables
Best way to make money online for those who like numbers – Bookkeeping
Below are the best ways to make money online without paying anything.
1. Blogging
Blogging is exactly what I started years ago, and I didn’t pay any money in the beginning to get started.
If you want to make money with a laptop, then this is what I recommend.
I began Making Sense of Cents in 2011, and it has helped me earn over $5,000,000 since then. I started my blog on a whim to share my own money journey, not even knowing that people could make money from blogs or how to make a successful one.
Now, it’s my full-time job!
Eventually, you will have costs with a blog, just like with most of the businesses listed below, if you want to grow and make more money. But, the expenses are low compared to how much money you may be able to make.
So, what’s a blog? A blog is like this content you’re reading now – it’s writing on a website. You can blog about something you’re passionate about, something you know a lot about, or even something you want to learn more about (people enjoy following firsthand journeys!).
There are many different niches (topics) that you can write about too, such as travel, personal finance, home, lifestyle, family, food, and more.
You can learn how to start a blog with my free How To Start a Blog Course (sign up by clicking here).

2. Printables
Selling printables is a way to make passive income from home without upfront costs.
This is because printables are digital files that you can download and print at home. You only need to make one digital file for each product, and then you can sell it multiple times.
They can be things like grocery shopping lists, invites, thank you cards, digital art, or gift tags.
I have bought many printables myself, and many others do too. Recently, I purchased a printable to help teach my daughter the alphabet. It was a useful tool, and I could easily print it at home.
You can learn more about this at How I Make Money Selling Printables On Etsy.

3. Proofreading
If you like finding mistakes in written content and want to start a business without spending a lot of money, then proofreading might be a good choice for you. This can be a part-time job or a full-time career working from home.
Many proofreaders earn around $40,000 a year or even more.
Proofreaders look for errors in articles, ads, books, student papers, emails, transcripts, and more.
To become a proofreader, all you need is a laptop or tablet, an internet connection, and the ability to spot mistakes and errors. So, you probably already have everything you need to get started.
I recommend signing up for a free 76-minute workshop, where you can learn more about becoming a proofreader. You can sign up for the free How To Become a Proofreader workshop here.

4. Freelance writing
Freelance writing is a great way to make money online without any upfront costs, as you don’t need any expensive equipment to get started.
A freelance writer is someone who writes for different places like websites, blogs, magazines, ads, books, and other things.
I have been a freelance writer for many years now, all from my laptop. I really enjoy being a freelance writer, and I have many friends who do this as well. I started this job because I wanted to make money from home and not spend money trying to figure it out. And, it worked!
This job can earn you more than $50,000 a year. Some of my friends who are freelance writers make over $200,000 a year.

5. Opening an online store
Starting an online store is a way to make money without upfront costs, and sites like Etsy and Shopify make this possible.
On Etsy, you can sell things like handmade or vintage items and craft supplies. This online marketplace is great if you’re creative and want to sell unique, one-of-a-kind products. Shopify, on the other hand, has more flexibility in what you can sell and allows you to build your personal storefront.
There are many different types of things you can sell, such as digital products like ebooks or web design templates, which don’t require inventory and can be sold repeatedly without additional cost. Physical products, on the other hand, can also be sold but keep in mind that you’ll need a plan for shipping, and you may have to spend money in order to have them as inventory to list on your store.
Another idea is dropshipping. This is a business model where you don’t need to keep inventory or ship products yourself. Instead, you work with suppliers who take care of inventory and shipping for you.
Below are some ideas for things you could sell through an online dropshipping store:
Travel items such as portable luggage scales, neck pillows, or travel cubes
Fitness equipment like yoga mats, weights, or resistance bands
Sustainable products such as reusable utensils, bamboo toothbrushes, tote bags, or eco-friendly cleaning supplies
Camping-related items like hammocks, lanterns, cookware sets, and survival kits
Jewelry such as stackable rings, layered bracelets, anklets, and statement earrings
6. Print-on-demand
Similar to the above, print-on-demand (POD) is a business model where you sell your custom designs on products like T-shirts, mugs, and books, but only print them once an order is placed.
It’s a popular way to start an online business with minimal upfront costs because you don’t have to worry about inventory. Your job is to create the designs and set up your online store.
Once a customer buys a product, the order goes straight to your POD supplier who prints and ships it under your brand name.
7. Stock photography
Stock photography is a way to make money online without any cash up front. If you already have a camera or even just a cell phone, you can get started selling stock photographs.
You are simply taking photos, putting them on a stock photo website, and selling them to people and companies.
People buy stock images from websites like Shutterstock, Getty Images, or Adobe Stock for many reasons, such as adding them to their websites, articles, blog posts, advertisements, and social media.
You can sell many types of pictures, including travel, business, people, food, animals, health, fashion, sports, and more.
For example, if I write a blog post about making money with a laptop, I might buy a stock photo of a laptop. Or, if I need a picture related to making money while traveling, I’d find a picture of a vacation to include in my blog post. Stock images can make a blog post more enjoyable to read.

8. Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is a way for you to earn money by promoting products or services online, and you don’t need anything special to get started.
With affiliate marketing, if your friend or follower buys a product through a referral link you share, you get paid a commission – it’s as simple as that.
First, pick products you love and are sure others will benefit from. Then, sign up for their affiliate program. Each program gives you an affiliate link. This link tracks who clicks and buys from your recommendation.
Your job is to share your affiliate link with as many interested people as possible. You could write about it on your blog, make videos, or even just share it on social media.

9. Playing games and watching videos for money
There are lots of money-making apps that let you earn cash by playing games or watching videos on your phone.
These apps pay you real money because they make money from ads and in-app purchases. To get you to keep playing, they give you a share of their earnings. For watching videos, the sites reward you with points for watching sponsored videos, and these videos can range from ads to short clips.
Now, these won’t make you rich, but it is a way to make money from your phone without upfront costs.
Here’s a quick list of the top video and game apps that pay real cash:
KashKick
Swagbucks

10. Market research and focus groups
If you love sharing your opinions, market research and focus groups are great ways for you to earn cash online without paying anything. This kind of work connects you with companies seeking feedback on their products or services. It’s all about understanding what you think as a consumer.
Lots of companies want to hear from people like you and me, and you can share your opinions with them using just a laptop or phone, some free time, and a good internet connection.
When I was paying off my student loans, I took online surveys almost every day. I did them before work, during lunch, or after work. Even though they didn’t make me a lot of money, they were flexible because I could do them whenever I had time. Plus, they were really easy and didn’t require much thinking!
Here are some survey companies I suggest:
American Consumer Opinion
Survey Junkie
Swagbucks
InboxDollars
Branded Surveys
PrizeRebel
User Interviews – This one pays on average around $60 per assignment (much higher than the rest, but it is a little more work for participants as these are usually video calls or on the phone)
Signing up for these survey sites is free, and typically, they pay about $1 to $3 for each survey you finish.
11. Online tutoring
As an online tutor, you get to teach students from the comfort of your home. Your job is to share your knowledge and help in a subject you know well. You don’t have to worry about traveling or a strict schedule; you can choose when to do your online tutoring gig.
You can make between $30 and $60 per hour or more, depending on the subject’s difficulty and your expertise. And you don’t need to spend any money up front, so it’s a way to earn online without extra costs.
As a tutor, you might spend 30 minutes to an hour giving a lesson, answering questions online, or working one-on-one with a student in a video lesson.
12. Virtual assistant job
You can make money from home as a virtual assistant by doing administrative tasks for clients online. You don’t need anything to get started other than a computer or laptop.

I’ve been a virtual assistant before (it was actually one of my first online jobs, and I liked how I didn’t have to spend money to become a VA), and I also have one who works for me, so I know how useful they can be! Plus, you don’t need anything expensive to get started.
13. Social media influencer
Being a social media influencer is a real way to make money online without any initial cost, and plenty of people have started their social media accounts by spending absolutely $0. In fact, I think most people start as just a hobby!
You can start with just your phone, by taking pictures and sharing your thoughts on social media accounts like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
You can earn money as a social media influencer through sponsored posts, where brands pay you to promote their products or services in your posts. You can also make money through affiliate marketing, where you earn commissions from sales made through your referral links. Plus, you can sell digital products like ebooks or online courses.
I’ve been a social media influencer for years, monetizing my Instagram and Facebook accounts. It’s allowed me to collaborate with brands I love and promote products I already use.

Twitch is a website where you can make money by playing video games, talking with viewers in real time through live streams, and more.
As your viewer count grows, you can start making money. Streamers can earn through ways such as:

Ebooks are digital books that you can download and read on devices like tablets, phones, e-readers, or laptops. They’ve become very popular because they’re affordable and easy to access.
I’ve purchased many ebooks myself, ranging from nonfiction to fiction, and many, many other people have as well.

There are many different kinds of niches you can sell vacations and trips in, such as luxury travel, cruises, Disney, budget travel, and adventure holidays.

You don’t need anything other than your computer (or even just your cell phone) to write the reviews. Many times, the book is given to you to review, so you don’t even have to pay for that.
This is typically more of a side gig for spare cash and free books.

Babysitting is an obvious job for teenagers, and it can be a great way to make money. I was a babysitter when I was a teenager and regularly earned over $1,000 a month by babysitting (mainly in the summer).
Starting a babysitting business is a smart choice for teens as it’s simple to start with very few costs. Your main investment is the time and effort you spend taking care of children.
To get started, you’ll need to let people know you’re available. Reach out to your parents’ friends, neighbors, or family members. After a while, word of mouth can help you find more jobs.
Safety is really important too, of course. So, you will most likely want to get certified in first aid or CPR. This not only makes you more trustworthy but also helps you handle emergencies.
2. Car washing services
Starting a car washing business can be a great business for a teen entrepreneur.

You can take pictures at events like birthdays or graduations, capture stunning portraits, or create art through landscape and wildlife photography.
6. Home care services in your neighborhood
When you start a home care services business, you’re stepping into a role that helps busy homeowners manage their households.
This can include a range of services that assist with the upkeep of a home, such as:

Plant care – Have a green thumb? Offer to water plants, prune leaves, and take care of any garden needs.

Errand runner – As an errand runner, you’ll help people in your community with tasks they might not have time for, like grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, or mailing packages.
When I was a teen, I had a friend who was a personal assistant for someone in her neighborhood. She would pick up their dry cleaning, take care of their plants, walk their dogs, and more.
7. Pet care (pet sitting and dog walking)
If you’re a teen who loves animals, starting a pet care business can be a great way to earn some extra cash. Pet sitting and dog walking services are in high demand and can be both fun and rewarding.

14. Lawn care business
Starting a lawn mowing business is a great way for teens to make money and is one of the popular small business ideas for teens. It’s easy to get started, and you can make cash during spring and summer (or even year-round depending on where you live, like Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California).
All you need is a lawn mower, some fuel, and basic gardening tools.
You can talk to neighbors, family, and friends to find new lawn mowing jobs.
I know many families with teenagers who mow lawns to make money. Some even turn it into a full-time business as they grow up.
15. House sitting
For teenagers, starting a house sitting business is a smart way to make money. You’re responsible for looking after someone’s home while they’re away, which is a big job.
Trust is important due to this, and homeowners must feel sure that their property and pets are safe in your care.
When I was a teen, I had a friend who was a regular house sitter for several people. She would water their plants, walk their dogs, and stay overnight in their homes to make sure everything was fine with the house.
16. Sell printables on Etsy
If you want to earn money from home and be your own boss with low startup costs, creating printables could be a great option for you.
A printable is a digital product that can be downloaded and printed at home. You create them once and then sell them on a platform like Etsy for people to purchase. You don’t have to physically print anything; you’re just selling the digital download.
Printables include things like grocery shopping checklists, weekly meal plans that people can put on their fridges, gift tags, and quotes to be framed. These are digital products that users can download and print for their use.
Making money at home as a teenager through creating printables is great because you create one digital file download for each product, and then you can sell them an unlimited number of times.
I recommend reading about this further at How I Make Money Selling Printables On Etsy.
Important note: To sell on Etsy, you need to be at least 18 years old. If you’re between 13 and 17, you can still sell on Etsy with the proper permission and under the direct supervision of your parent or legal guardian. The Etsy account should be registered using the parent or legal guardian’s information.
17. Social media influencer
If you enjoy being in front of the camera and are good at connecting with people, you could possibly make money as a social media influencer.
This can include platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and more.
Now, this is not a guaranteed way to make extra money as a teen, as not everyone makes it. But, you won’t know unless you give it a try.
It’s all about your image and your message (and some luck too, of course). Ask yourself, what are you passionate about? Fashion? Gaming? Fitness?
You’ll want to keep your posts consistent (for many platforms, this will include posting at least once a day) and your voice authentic. This is how you’ll attract followers who can’t wait to see what you post next.
You’ll also want to interact with your audience. Reply to comments, ask questions, and listen to what they want. An engaged audience is a loyal one, and brands notice this. The more you connect, the more your followers trust you.
As your following grows, companies might pay you to talk about their products. That’s because they see value in your ability to reach and engage with a dedicated audience.

If you like playing video games and have a fun personality, you may be able to make money streaming. With platforms like Twitch, you can create a channel where you showcase your gaming skills or entertain an audience with your commentary.
Once you gather a following, you can monetize your channel through subscriptions, ads, sponsorships, and donations. Selling branded merchandise is another way to earn money.

20. Baking
If you love making treats that leave your friends and family asking for more, starting a baking business could be your path to success.

23. Answer online surveys
Okay, so this isn’t a business, but it is a way to make money online.
Taking surveys won’t make you rich, but it can help you earn a bit of extra money during your spare minutes throughout the day.
Companies pay you to take surveys because they want to know what people think about their product and their company. They want real opinions from real people.
Here are some of the survey companies that are open to teenagers (along with their minimum age requirements):
American Consumer Opinion – Age minimum – 14 years old
Survey Junkie – Age minimum – 12 years old

Things To Think About as a Teen Entrepreneur
As a teen wanting to start a business, it’s important to think about things like balancing schoolwork, managing finances, and making sure that you are staying safe.
Balancing school and business
Your school schedule is a priority, and finding a balance between it and your new business venture is important, so it’s important to plan out your week.
I recommend creating a visual where you can see your school time, study hours, and time for your business.

Financial planning
It’s important to understand the basics of financial planning when it comes to your business so that you can make sure you are making money and not wasting money.
So, I recommend listing the resources and materials you’ll need along with their costs. This also includes keeping track of all your expenses and income using a spreadsheet or even just writing your expenses down.
Working safely
You should always be safe, and make sure not to fall for any scams or fall into business with someone that you do not want to. Keep parents up-to-date on what is going on in your business and make sure to meet strangers in public/safe places.

1. Micro-Investing
With micro-investing, even those with limited disposable income can join the game, starting with as little as $5. Ideal for college students or novice investors, there are a multitude of micro-investing apps available, many requiring an initial investment of $500 or less.
These user-friendly platforms offer a simple way to dip your toes into the investment world. Check out these five top micro-investing apps to start your journey today.
Robinhood
If you’re a beginner investor, Robinhood is an excellent choice. Unlike many other platforms, Robinhood has no minimum balance requirement and doesn’t charge any fees for trading.
It is also very easy to use the app. Additionally, Robinhood stands out among micro-investing platforms, offering the ability to trade in a wide range of assets, including full stocks, mutual funds, options, and cryptocurrencies.

Stash
Stash accommodates the needs of a diverse range of investors. Upon signing up, you’ll take a quick survey to assess your risk tolerance, allowing you to determine the amount and frequency of your investments.
With Stash, you also have the power to select the industries and companies you want to invest in. For example, if you’re passionate about sustainability, you can easily choose to invest only in eco-friendly organizations.
Acorns
Investing made simple and affordable – that’s what Acorns offers. Signing up is a breeze, with no minimum balance required, and the low monthly fee of just $1
Once you’ve joined, simply connect your Acorns account to your credit or debit card. Every time you make a purchase, the app will round up the amount to the nearest dollar and automatically invest that change once it reaches $5.
Betterment
For those who want to be hands-on with their micro-investing, Betterment may be the answer. The platform takes care of the investing for you, while also giving you the option to work with a financial advisor and have a say in your investment portfolio.
Signing up is easy, with no minimum balance required for its basic plan. However, it’s important to note that Betterment charges a 0.25% monthly fee on your investments.
2. Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), Mutual Funds, or Index Funds
For those looking to invest $500, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual funds, and index funds are all great options. ETFs offer a basket of securities that can be exchanged on the market, just like a stock. You can find plenty of online brokers that offer a wide selection of commission-free ETFs.
Mutual funds are managed by a professional broker and aim to beat a given stock market index, while index funds are designed to match the index and grow from there.
All three types of investments have low expense ratios, low fees and commissions, and offer broad, diversified exposure to the stock market.

3. Buy Bitcoin
For some, investing in cryptocurrency may be too risky and volatile for their taste. However, Bitcoin has had an average growth of over 100% per year for the past 12 years! In fact, if you had invested $500 in Bitcoin five years ago, you’d have approximately $90,000 today.
If you’re interested in getting into crypto, Coinbase is a great place to start. They’ll give you $10 in free Bitcoin when you buy or sell $100 or more in crypto. Coinbase also offers ways for you to earn up to $32 worth of crypto for free.

4. Open a Roth IRA
It’s never too late to start planning for retirement, and a Roth IRA might be the way to go. With this retirement savings plan, you contribute after-tax money to an investment account, which you can then withdraw tax-free when you reach retirement age.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind before opening a Roth IRA. An individual retirement account (IRA) is meant for long-term savings and withdrawing the money before you turn 59 and a half may result in penalties. If you anticipate needing to access the funds sooner, consider exploring alternative options.
5. Start an Online Business
If you’re looking for an unconventional way to invest your money, why not try starting an online business? Traditional brick-and-mortar businesses require a lot of capital to get up and running, but the same cannot be said for an online business.
You won’t need office space, a warehouse, or expensive equipment. In all likelihood, you won’t need to invest $500. It will cost much less than that. Here are some popular online business ideas:
Starting and monetizing a blog
Selling things on eBay or Craig’s List
Selling services like freelancing writing, editing, or graphic design
Opening an e-commerce store
Buying items and flipping them for profit
6. Use Robo-Advisors
Investing your money with a robo-advisor might be a smart choice. A robo-advisor is a user-friendly online investment platform that creates a tailored and diversified portfolio for you based on your answers to a questionnaire.
Although robo-advisors have limited services compared to working with a financial advisor and do not offer personalized advice, they have low fees and make investing with as little as $500 in the stock market accessible. Additionally, robo-advisors offer multiple investment options, including:
Roth IRAs
Traditional IRAs
Solo 401(k)s
Taxable accounts
7. Open a High-Interest Savings Account
If you’re still exploring your options and not ready to invest yet, consider opening a high-yield savings account. The best high-interest savings accounts currently pay about 3% to 5% in interest.
While the returns may not match the potential gains of the stock market, having a savings account serves as a solid backup plan and provides peace of mind for the future. Don’t let your funds go to waste – take advantage of this secure and profitable opportunity.
8. Open a High-Yield CD
A high-yield certificate of deposit (CD) is a low-risk investment option that offers a higher rate of return compared to traditional savings accounts. CDs work by allowing you to deposit a fixed amount of money for a set period of time, typically ranging from a few months to several years. In exchange for this commitment, the financial institution offering the CD agrees to pay you a higher rate of interest compared to traditional savings accounts.
Opening a high-yield CD with $500 or less is a straightforward process that can be done through a bank or credit union. You simply choose the term length and deposit amount that works best for you, and the institution takes care of the rest. As your money grows over time, you’ll earn a higher return on your investment compared to traditional savings accounts.
Just remember that CDs typically have early withdrawal penalties. So, make sure you’re comfortable with the term length and the amount you’re depositing before opening an account.
9. Invest in Real Estate Crowdfunding
Investing in real estate is not limited to traditional methods, even with just $500. A prime example is real estate crowdfunding via platforms like Fundrise.
Fundrise provides investment opportunities in both commercial and residential properties with a minimum investment of just $10. This eliminates the requirement for a large capital investment, making real estate investment accessible to a wider range of individuals.
Check out our in-depth Fundrise review.
10. Pay Down Your Debt
Reducing debt is a sound investment for securing your future, particularly concerning high-interest credit card debt. The Federal Reserve reveals that the average credit card interest rate can be as much as 15% or higher, with a low credit score only driving the APR to even more astronomical heights.
Think about it, if your APR is at its highest, you may be shelling out hundreds of dollars each month just in interest charges. But by focusing your efforts on paying down your debt, you stand to save yourself not just money, but countless headaches in the coming year. With the possibility of freeing up thousands of dollars, it’s an investment worth making.
11. Try Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Lending
Peer-to-peer lending offers a unique twist on conventional lending methods. Rather than seeking loans from traditional banks, borrowers turn to platforms such as Prosper, connecting with investors like yourself.
By participating in P2P lending, you have the opportunity to generate a steady monthly income by lending funds to individuals or businesses. The added bonus? The money you earn is deposited directly into your account, providing a convenient and hands-off approach to investing.
12. Invest in Your Financial Education
Investing in your financial literacy may be the most valuable investment you’ll ever make. For a nominal fee of just $5 to $15, you can access top-notch personal finance books or audiobooks that can transform your financial future.
Take “Rich Dad Poor Dad” for example, available on Amazon for as low as $6.82 for the Kindle edition or $11.36 for the paperback. And if audiobooks are more your style, a month of Audible membership costs only $14.95.
You can expand your knowledge on real estate investing, stock investment strategies, and fundamental money management skills to help you get out of debt and attain financial independence.
And if reading isn’t your preferred method of learning, there are plenty of affordable online courses available. With so many options, it’s remarkable how much financial education you can gain for less than $500.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best way to invest $500?
The best way to invest $500 depends entirely on your personal financial status and objectives. If you’re just starting out investing, consider investing in a low-cost and diversified mutual fund or ETF. These investment vehicles offer the advantage of spreading your funds across a range of stocks and bonds, mitigating the risk associated with any single investment.
Other options to ponder include setting up a Roth IRA or investing in a high-yield savings account. The choice that works best for you ultimately hinges on your risk appetite, investment timeline, and financial aspirations.
Is it possible to invest $500 in stocks?
Absolutely! With just $500, you can venture into the world of stock investing. Micro-investing apps provide the opportunity for you to invest in individual stocks or opt for an ETF that follows a particular index.
It’s crucial to conduct thorough research and seek the guidance of a financial advisor to determine the best investment strategy that aligns with your unique circumstances.
Is it worth investing $500 in a robo-advisor?
Investing your $500 via a robo-advisor can be a wise decision. These digital platforms leverage algorithms to manage your investments, offering a more passive investment strategy.
Furthermore, robo-advisors tend to be more economical than human financial advisors, making them a fantastic choice for individuals seeking to initiate their investment journey.
What are the risks of investing $500?
Starting your investment journey with just $500 can be a smart move. However, it’s important to keep in mind the inherent dangers that come with investing.
Remember, no investment is entirely risk-free and there’s always a chance of losing your funds. To ensure you make an informed decision, conduct thorough research and consult a financial expert who can guide you towards the best option suited for you.
Bottom Line
We hope that this article has demonstrated to you that investing can be simple and accessible, even with a limited budget. You can start investing immediately with a modest amount of funds. If you’re not quite ready to invest, consider paying off high-interest credit card debt, increasing your income, and establishing an emergency fund.

Initially, when my wife introduced me to Stan Store, I wasn’t impressed.
It seemed illogical to pay $30 a month for software that just offered a basic sales page, especially without any integrated email service provider.
This was a stark contrast to my experience with platforms like ConvertKit, where I started with a free account until my subscriber count grew large enough where I had to pay.
As I spent more time with Stan Store, my perspective began to shift. I realized that for someone completely new to online marketing, who might be overwhelmed by the complexities of building and creating a landing or sales page, Stan Store could actually make a lot of sense.
It’s tailored for beginners, offering them a straightforward entry point into the world of digital marketing.
Who is Stan Store For?
So, who’s going to love Stan Store? Pretty much anyone aiming to make a buck online through digital products or services. If you’re like me, trying to turn those ‘link in bio’ clicks into actual sales, then Stan Store is your go-to.
Let me break it down for you. Stan Store is a hit with a wide range of creators and businesses, but from my experience, it’s a total game-changer for:
Content Creators, Influencers, Micro-influencers, and UGC Creators
Instagrammers, TikTokers, YouTubers, X’rs
Online Coaches, Mentors, and Teachers
Digital Product Creators (Etsy, you’ve got competition)
Social Media Managers and Content Managers
Designers, Freelancers, and Small Digital Businesses
And hey, even if you’re in the business of selling physical goods, Stan Store can be a killer tool for growing your email list or hosting online events.
Just a heads up though – selling physical products directly through Stan Store isn’t on the table just yet.
How Does Stan Store Work?
Picture this: I’m on TikTok or Instagram Stories, chatting about my latest digital product – let’s say it’s an eBook or a PDF.
In the past, I’d direct my followers to the ‘link in my bio’, which would then send them off to another site, like my website. There, they’d have to play detective to find the product I was talking about, or sit through endless page loads.
But with Stan Store, things get a whole lot smoother. The ‘link in my bio’ is now the store itself. Followers can hit that link, buy what they want right there and then, without being shunted off to a different site.
The best part? They can hop right back to Instagram or TikTok without feeling like they ever left. It’s all about keeping it simple and seamless – and that’s what Stan Store nails perfectly.
Here’s a screenshot of my wife’s personal Stan Store:
We’re still not a big fan of their email signup process so for now our opt-in page (squeeze page) is hosted on Kajabi.
But my wife is selling our Digital Product Quickstart Guide on Stan Store. Here’s how the sales page looks:
Behind the scenes of our sales page is a payment processor and the ability to deliver the digital product with ease. That’s what makes Stan Store so attractive. You can literally start selling your very own digital product in a matter of minutes.
Why Stan Store Stands Out
What truly sets Stan Store apart is its efficiency – you can begin selling your own digital products in just a matter of minutes.
Stan Store Features Overview
Stan Store is packed with features designed to make the life of a digital creator easier and more profitable. Whether you’re a coach, influencer, or digital product creator, here’s what Stan Store brings to the table:
Mobile & Desktop Optimized Store: Your store looks great and works seamlessly on any device, ensuring a smooth shopping experience for your audience.
Calendar Invites & Bookings Product: Easily manage appointments and bookings directly through your store.
Analytics: Get insights into your store’s performance to make data-driven decisions.
Unlimited Course Products: Offer as many courses as you like, with no restrictions.

Recurring Subscription Products: Ideal for memberships and ongoing services, this feature allows for regular income.

Stan Store Plans: Creator vs. Creator Pro
Creator Plan
The Creator plan, priced at $29 per month (or $300 per year with a 20% discount), is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to jumpstart their online business. It includes all the essential tools you need:
Mobile & Desktop Optimized Store
Calendar Invites & Bookings Product

This plan is perfect for creators who are just beginning to monetize their online presence and need a comprehensive, yet straightforward set of tools to get started.
Creator Pro Plan
For those ready to take their business to the next level, the Creator Pro plan is available at $99 per month (or $948 per year with a 20% discount). It includes everything in the Creator plan, plus advanced features for optimizing conversions and offering more to your customers:
Advanced Pricing & Payment Plans
Discount Codes
Limit Quantity

Order Bumps & Upsells

Affiliate Share Feature
Email Marketing
The Creator Pro plan is tailored for creators who are looking to expand their offerings, optimize their sales process, and engage more deeply with their audience.
Benefits of Using Stan Store
Convenience and Accessibility
The convenience and accessibility of Stan Store are what eventually changed my initial skepticism. The platform allows anyone, regardless of their technical skill, to quickly set up a landing or sales page.
This ease of use is a crucial factor for many users, especially those who lack the time or technical expertise to navigate more complex systems.
Competitive Pricing and Deals
The initial pricing, though seemingly high, is justified by the platform’s simplicity and effectiveness, particularly for its target audience – the absolute beginner in online marketing. The recent addition of an email service provider at a higher tier adds more value, making it a more comprehensive tool.
Drawbacks of Stan Store
Limitations in Product Availability
One of the criticisms I had of Stan Store was its limited range of features. While its simplicity is its strength, it also means that users looking for more advanced features might find Stan Store lacking. This limitation can be a significant drawback for users as their businesses and marketing skills evolve.
Stan Store Alternatives
In the journey of online entrepreneurship, it’s crucial to explore various platforms to see what aligns best with your business needs. While Stan Store has been a solid choice for me, I’ve also had experiences with other platforms worth mentioning:
Shopify: Shopify is a robust platform for creating online stores. It’s feature-rich and offers a lot of flexibility for those looking to build a detailed and extensive online shop.
WooCommerce: Ideal for WordPress users, WooCommerce seamlessly integrates with your existing site, transforming it into a fully functional e-commerce platform. It’s versatile but can be a bit complex, especially for beginners.
Etsy: Etsy is the go-to marketplace for unique, handmade, or vintage items. It’s less about building your own store and more about joining a vibrant, existing marketplace.
Teachable and Thinkific: Both are excellent for creating and selling online courses. They offer a range of tools tailored for educators and coaches, focusing on course creation and student engagement.
Gumroad: Simple and straightforward, Gumroad is perfect for independent creators selling digital products like books, music, or art directly to their audience.
Kajabi: Kajabi is an all-in-one platform offering tools for online courses, marketing, and website building. It’s ideal for those offering educational content and looking for a comprehensive solution.

Is Stan Store Worth it?
After diving deep into Stan Store and comparing it with its alternatives, the big question remains: Is Stan Store worth it? Based on my experience and the insights I’ve gathered, my answer leans towards a yes, especially for a specific audience.
Stan Store stands out for its sheer simplicity and focus on digital content creators. If you’re just starting out or find yourself overwhelmed by the complexities of more advanced platforms, Stan Store offers a welcoming and straightforward path. The ease of setting up a sales or landing page, combined with the platform’s focus on digital products, makes it an attractive option for creators who want to monetize their content without the hassle.
The pricing, initially a point of skepticism for me, actually makes sense when you consider the target audience and the features offered. For beginners and those not ready to navigate the complexities of platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce, Stan Store’s $29 monthly fee for the Creator plan is a reasonable investment.
And for those looking to scale up, the Creator Pro plan, despite its higher price, brings in advanced features that could justify the cost as your business grows. If you’re not sure Stan Store is a good fit, the 14-day free trial might be exactly what you need.
Bottom Line – Stan Store Honest Review
In conclusion, while Stan Store might not be the one-size-fits-all solution for every online entrepreneur, it certainly has carved out its niche. It’s a platform that understands and caters to the needs of digital content creators, making it a worthwhile consideration for those in its target demographic.
As with any tool, it’s about finding the right fit for your specific needs, and for many creators, Stan Store could be just that.

Is it worth it to start a blog in 2024? Is it profitable to have a blog?
If you’re thinking about starting a blog, then I think it’s a great time.
Whether you want to start a blog or create a social media account and make money on there (such as TikTok), a blog of your own is something that I always recommend. This is because you own your blog and you are in control!
Perhaps you’ve been thinking about starting a blog for some time, but you’re afraid that you have waited too long.
Every year I get the same questions from people who are thinking about starting a blog but are worried that it’s too late.
I also have friends who have started blogs in the past year or two and were told the same thing.
I still remember the early days from when I first started my blog.
I was so clueless when I first started my blog. And, it seemed like a very random thing when I first heard about blogging, but I decided to go ahead and create a blog of my own.
Making Sense of Cents was started simply as a way to keep track of my own personal finance journey. Most people in my life didn’t even know I had a blog.
It’s so funny to think back to when I first started my blog, but I’m so glad I gave blogging a chance. I can’t imagine how different my life would be if I had listened to the people who said it was too late to start a blog.
Because of how blogging changed my life, I love telling others about it. That’s exactly what I’m doing today if you are on the fence about starting a blog.
Blogging helped me pay off my debt, quit my regular job, travel full-time, and more. The best part is that I love what I do. And, as you can tell from my business income reports, I now earn a great living from my blog.

Is it worth it to start a blog in 2024?
1. Yes, you can still start a blog
2024 is not too late to start a blog, but you will want to get started! I hear from so many bloggers who have delayed launching their blogs because they are afraid.
Well, you won’t know how blogging will go for you unless you start a blog.
Yes, blogging has changed over the years, but it is constantly changing and always will be. You will have to do things differently than when I first started blogging, but that’s normal with any online business, job, and so on.

2. There is space for new bloggers
I often hear, “But there’s so many blogs out there now.” Yes, there are many blogs, but there is still space. It’s all about finding your own voice and attracting your own audience.
I am still finding brand new blogs that I love, and it’s exciting watching them grow.
Everyone is different, and everyone has their own point of view.
Of course, just like with any time, you will have to find ways to make your story stand out, grow your audience, and more. But, that is completely normal.
Plus, there are so many social media platforms that you can grow on as well, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and more.
3. Blogs can make money in 2024 (and into the future)
Companies and brands are still putting money toward investing in blogs and social media accounts.
Companies are increasing their marketing budgets, specifically to grow their market and audience through blogs.
And, that’s where you and I come in!
Before, companies usually would advertise and promote their products through celebrities, TV shows, movies and more. However, these days, so many people are buying products from things that they see from their favorite bloggers and social media accounts, and companies are definitely noticing this and are putting more of their marketing budget toward it.

4. Starting a blog can be quite enjoyable
Okay, so not everyone will love having a blog. That is completely normal! After all, not everyone likes every single job out there either.
But, for me, I absolutely love blogging. And, I know many others who do as well.
I enjoy helping others improve their financial situation, reading blog posts from other bloggers, finding new people to talk to, working on my blog, and especially writing.
I love waking up each morning to work, and I no longer dread work like I did when I had my day job.
Blogging is both challenging and rewarding, as there is always something new to learn. And, it’s a lot of fun to reach and connect with new people through your blog.

5. You can start a blog for cheap
A blog is very affordable to create.
I spent less than $100 total for the whole first year of Making Sense of Cents.
If you are interested in taking the steps to learn how to create a blog, I have a tutorial that will help you create a blog of your own for cheap, starting at only $2.75 per month for blog hosting (this low price is only through my link). In addition to the low pricing, you will receive a free website domain (a $15 value) through my referral link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting.
This means you can learn how to start a blog in 2024 and make money for less than $50 a year.
I started my blog with super cheap blog hosting, and I designed it myself (even though I had no experience ever doing something like that).
I did pretty much everything myself so that I could save money, and while it was a learning experience, it was well worth it.
This is great because you can start a blog, test it out, and not spend a lot of money.
6. You are in control
Do you want a flexible schedule? What about controlling how you make an income? Want to work from home?
By starting a blog, these are all things that you can be in control of. You get to be the decision-maker when it comes to deciding on what type of business you’ll run, your schedule, your goals, the topic you write about, and more.
I love being in complete control of what I do, and becoming self-employed may allow you to feel that way as well. I enjoy deciding what I will do each day, creating my own schedule, determining my business goals, handling everything behind the scenes, and more.
7. You don’t need to be a tech wizard to start a blog
I get asked this all the time, “Do I need to be good at social media or know how to code in order to start a blog?”
No!
You definitely do not.
In order to become a blogger in 2024, you don’t need previous experience. You don’t need to have a computer degree (I don’t think I know any bloggers who do, haha), previously be active on social media, or know how to design a website.
These are all things that you will learn as you go, or you may even hire some tasks out.
Nearly every single blogger was brand new at some point, and they had no idea what they were doing.
I’m proof of that. I had just learned that blogs existed when I started Making Sense of Cents, and I definitely didn’t know that bloggers could make money. I learned how to create a blog from the bottom up and have worked my way to where I am today.
Now, that doesn’t mean that blogging is easy. It will require hard work and the beginning can be tough. But it is something that you can learn.
8. You can still learn how to start a blog

Is it still profitable to start a blog? Is it worth it to start a blog and make money?
Yes, blogs can still make money in 2024. I think starting a blog can definitely be worth it and valuable. You can turn your hobbies, expertise, and/or creativity to start a profitable blog. And, even if you don’t have strong writing skills, that is something that you can learn as you go.
Luckily, you don’t need much to start a blog either. An internet connection, computer, and a domain name are the best ways to start!
If blogging is so wonderful, then why doesn’t everyone start one?
Not everyone starts a blog because it isn’t for everyone.
That would be like saying that becoming a zoologist or an astronaut is for everyone.
Everyone has different skills, different passions, and more.
So, not everyone will want to be a blogger. That is completely fine.
Learning how to earn money blogging is work, and just like with all jobs – not everyone wants what you want.
And, for every successful blog out there, there are probably hundreds of bloggers who will never earn money blogging. While you can earn money blogging, not all bloggers will.
It would be like saying that 100% of people who start a business will see success. That is just never going to happen – businesses fail, business owners have a change of heart, and others just don’t find it enjoyable.
I know I am always talking about the positives of blogging, but I also like to mention how it’s not the easiest.
After all, if blogging was easy, then everyone would do it and everyone would make thousands of dollars a month.
But as you know, that’s not the case.
Not everyone is going to earn money blogging because it can be a lot of work! Most new bloggers quit just a few months in. A few months is not enough time to see if your blog will be successful. It took me six months before I started to earn money blogging, and I only earned $100.
It’s funny and weird to think about what life would be like if I would have quit back then.
I’m constantly learning something new when it comes to blogging, and that is why I enjoy it so much.
If you are interested in starting a blog, I do recommend giving it a shot.

Looking to start your own business? You’re not alone. Some 76% of Gen Z and millennials dream of being their own boss, according to a 2022 Microsoft report.
While launching your own business allows you plenty of professional freedom, it can also be expensive. As you’re creating your business plan, one question you’ll likely face early on is, how much does it cost to start a business?
The average small business owner spends around $40,000 in their first full year. But that amount can vary based on a number of factors, including the size, type and location of your business.
Let’s take a closer look at the startup costs of different types of businesses and common ways to cover the expenses.
Typical Small Business Startup Costs
The old adage is true: You have to spend money to make money. And unfortunately, some of the biggest business costs can come during the startup phase, when you are defining your business goals, finding a location, purchasing domain names, and generally investing in the infrastructure.
In order to make sure your business is on firm financial footing, it’s important to estimate your small business startup costs in advance. Here are some common ones to keep in mind:
Payroll
Many small businesses start out as a company of one. But if you’re planning on having employees, salary will likely be one of the biggest costs you’ll have. After all, offering an attractive pay and benefits package can help you recruit and retain top talent.
In addition to wages, you might also want to budget for other types of payroll costs, such as overtime, vacation pay, bonuses, commissions, and benefits.
Office Space
No matter what your business is, you’ll need somewhere to work. Are you leasing a storefront, or will you buy a membership to a co-working space or startup incubator? If you’re planning to work from home, consider whether your new business will increase your internet or utility bills.
And don’t forget about the supplies you’ll need to do the work. Depending on your business, this could include things like computers, phones, chairs and desks, paper supplies, or filing cabinets. 💡 Quick Tip: Some lenders can release funds as quickly as the same day your loan is approved. SoFi personal loans offer same-day funding for qualified borrowers.
Inventory
If you’re starting a business that sells products, you’ll need to have some inventory ready to go. Calculating stock as part of your start-up costs ensures that you can buy your product in advance, so that you’re ready to serve customers from day one.
Licenses, Permits, and Insurance
Some businesses, especially storefronts and restaurants, require more legal leg work than others.
For example, if you’re starting a native-plants landscaping business, will you need a permit? If you’re starting a new bar, will you need a liquor license? Licenses and permits vary by city and state, but most come with an application fee.
Likewise, your new business may require one or more insurance policies to protect you in case of future litigation, so be sure to factor in the cost of monthly premiums.
And don’t forget about the costs associated with registering your business. Whether you plan to set up shop as a sole proprietorship, corporation, limited liability corporation or other business entity, you’ll need to pay a nominal fee. The amount will depend on the state where you operate.
And if you plan on enlisting the help of a lawyer, accountant or tax professional to get your business up and running, add those potential costs to your budget as well.
Advertising
Getting the word out about your new business is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that business starts off strong. Whether you want to advertise on social media or take out a billboard, your startup costs should reflect money you plan to put toward taking out ads for your business.

Differences in Startup Costs Based on Industry
The actual cost of starting a small business can vary by business and industry. Here’s what you might be looking at if you want to start a few common types of small businesses.
Online Business Startup Costs
Like brick and mortar stores, the cost of doing business online varies depending on the type of business you have. But in general, you’ll need to budget for things like:
• Web hosting service and domain name
• Web design and optimization
• E-commerce software
• Payment processing
• Content creation and social media
If you’re selling products, you will need to invest in inventory and shipping. If you’re providing services, you may need to hire employees. All of these costs can be significant.
However, one benefit of starting your small business online is that you may be able to keep other costs low. For example, if you can conduct business from home, you may not need to rent office space, which can be a major savings. If you’re able to do the work without purchasing inventory or hiring employees, the startup costs can be even lower.
Average startup cost: $500 to $20,000 or more (depending on your business)
Storefront Startup Costs
If your business idea requires a physical space, your startup costs might range from $1,000 for a small kiosk inside a mall or park to more than $69,000 for something like a home goods store.
Although $69,000 might seem like a daunting number, remember that many smaller, independently owned stores began with a much smaller budget.
Average retail startup cost: $39,210
Restaurant Startup Costs
If you’re betting on bringing in bank by selling your grandma’s famous bánh mì, you could be looking at startup costs of anywhere from $40,000 for a used food truck or cart to up to $3.7 million to buy a franchise restaurant. Typically, small restaurant costs, including coffee shops, fall somewhere in the $80,000 to $3000,000 range.
Average startup cost: $375,000
How to Finance Your Startup Business
Many who want to start a business are overwhelmed by the initial costs, but there are several ways to fund your passion project.
Friends and Family
Perhaps one of the most common ways to raise money for your small business is to ask friends and family to invest in you.
Friends and family loans can be ideal for financing a new small business because you can negotiate low-interest rates, flexible pay-back schedules, and avoid bank fees. Of course, borrowing money from friends and family can quickly become complicated by family drama, so make sure to agree on conditions before taking out a family loan.
Outside Investors
When we hear about startup companies, we frequently hear about so-called “angel investors” sweeping in to fully fund new businesses. But there are other practical ways to fund your small business with outside investors.
Some small businesses use crowdfunding platforms to find investors who each contribute a small amount, and others use startup funding networks to find investors looking to fund their specific type of business. Outside investors want to know that your business is likely to succeed, so you’ll need a solid business plan to land outside funders.
Personal Savings and Investments
Most people end up covering some of their small business start-up costs out of their own pocket. Self-funding your new business venture can be the most convenient option. After all, if you’re your own funder, you don’t have to worry about family drama or picky investors. And putting your own money on the line can be an extra motivation to make sure that your business is set up to succeed.
Of course, it can seem overwhelming to save up enough money to fund your small business. Luckily, there are simple strategies to effectively manage your money.
Business Loans
If you’re looking to purchase equipment, inventory, or pay for other business expenses, a business loan might make sense for you.
There are various types of small business loans available, each with different rates and repayment terms. Note that in some cases, lenders may be reluctant to give loans to a brand-new business. You might need to put up some type of collateral to qualify for funding.
Personal Loans
A personal loan can be used for just about any purpose, which can make it attractive for entrepreneurs who want to turn their passion project into a reality. These loans are usually unsecured, which means they’re not backed by collateral, like a home, car, or bank account balance.
Personal loan amounts vary. However, some lenders offer personal loans for as much as $100,000. Most personal loans have shorter repayment terms, though the length of a loan can vary from a few months to several years.
While there’s a great deal of latitude with how you use the funds, you might need to get your lender’s approval first if you intend on using the money directly for your business. 💡 Quick Tip: Before choosing a personal loan, ask about the lender’s fees: origination, prepayment, late fees, etc. One question can save you many dollars.
The Takeaway
Going into business for yourself can be personally and professionally fulfilling. But it can also be expensive, especially if you’re starting from scratch. Estimating your startup costs early on can help ensure you’re on solid financial ground from the get-go. Labor, office space, and equipment are among the biggest expenses facing many entrepreneurs, but there are smaller fees and charges you’ll likely need to consider.
Fortunately, small business owners have no shortage of options when it comes to covering startup costs. Dipping into personal savings, or asking friends and family to invest are popular choices. Taking out a business loan or personal loan is another way to help finance a new business. The money can be used for a variety of purposes, and that flexibility can be especially useful when you’re just starting out.
Think twice before turning to high-interest credit cards. Consider a SoFi personal loan instead. SoFi offers competitive fixed rates and same-day funding. Checking your rate takes just a minute.

SoFi members with direct deposit activity can earn 4.60% annual percentage yield (APY) on savings balances (including Vaults) and 0.50% APY on checking balances. Direct Deposit means a deposit to an account holder’s SoFi Checking or Savings account, including payroll, pension, or government payments (e.g., Social Security), made by the account holder’s employer, payroll or benefits provider or government agency (“Direct Deposit”) via the Automated Clearing House (“ACH”) Network during a 30-day Evaluation Period (as defined below). Deposits that are not from an employer or government agency, including but not limited to check deposits, peer-to-peer transfers (e.g., transfers from PayPal, Venmo, etc.), merchant transactions (e.g., transactions from PayPal, Stripe, Square, etc.), and bank ACH funds transfers and wire transfers from external accounts, do not constitute Direct Deposit activity. There is no minimum Direct Deposit amount required to qualify for the stated interest rate.
SoFi members with Qualifying Deposits can earn 4.60% APY on savings balances (including Vaults) and 0.50% APY on checking balances. Qualifying Deposits means one or more deposits that, in the aggregate, are equal to or greater than $5,000 to an account holder’s SoFi Checking and Savings account (“Qualifying Deposits”) during a 30-day Evaluation Period (as defined below). Qualifying Deposits only include those deposits from the following eligible sources: (i) ACH transfers, (ii) inbound wire transfers, (iii) peer-to-peer transfers (i.e., external transfers from PayPal, Venmo, etc. and internal peer-to-peer transfers from a SoFi account belonging to another account holder), (iv) check deposits, (v) instant funding to your SoFi Bank Debit Card, (vi) push payments to your SoFi Bank Debit Card, and (vii) cash deposits. Qualifying Deposits do not include: (i) transfers between an account holder’s Checking account, Savings account, and/or Vaults; (ii) interest payments; (iii) bonuses issued by SoFi Bank or its affiliates; or (iv) credits, reversals, and refunds from SoFi Bank, N.A. (“SoFi Bank”) or from a merchant.
SoFi Bank shall, in its sole discretion, assess each account holder’s Direct Deposit activity and Qualifying Deposits throughout each 30-Day Evaluation Period to determine the applicability of rates and may request additional documentation for verification of eligibility. The 30-Day Evaluation Period refers to the “Start Date” and “End Date” set forth on the APY Details page of your account, which comprises a period of 30 calendar days (the “30-Day Evaluation Period”). You can access the APY Details page at any time by logging into your SoFi account on the SoFi mobile app or SoFi website and selecting either (i) Banking > Savings > Current APY or (ii) Banking > Checking > Current APY. Upon receiving a Direct Deposit or $5,000 in Qualifying Deposits to your account, you will begin earning 4.60% APY on savings balances (including Vaults) and 0.50% on checking balances on or before the following calendar day. You will continue to earn these APYs for (i) the remainder of the current 30-Day Evaluation Period and through the end of the subsequent 30-Day Evaluation Period and (ii) any following 30-day Evaluation Periods during which SoFi Bank determines you to have Direct Deposit activity or $5,000 in Qualifying Deposits without interruption.
SoFi Bank reserves the right to grant a grace period to account holders following a change in Direct Deposit activity or Qualifying Deposits activity before adjusting rates. If SoFi Bank grants you a grace period, the dates for such grace period will be reflected on the APY Details page of your account. If SoFi Bank determines that you did not have Direct Deposit activity or $5,000 in Qualifying Deposits during the current 30-day Evaluation Period and, if applicable, the grace period, then you will begin earning the rates earned by account holders without either Direct Deposit or Qualifying Deposits until you have Direct Deposit activity or $5,000 in Qualifying Deposits in a subsequent 30-Day Evaluation Period. For the avoidance of doubt, an account holder with both Direct Deposit activity and Qualifying Deposits will earn the rates earned by account holders with Direct Deposit.
Members without either Direct Deposit activity or Qualifying Deposits, as determined by SoFi Bank, during a 30-Day Evaluation Period and, if applicable, the grace period, will earn 1.20% APY on savings balances (including Vaults) and 0.50% APY on checking balances.
Interest rates are variable and subject to change at any time. These rates are current as of 10/24/2023. There is no minimum balance requirement. Additional information can be found at http://www.sofi.com/legal/banking-rate-sheet..

How much wealth could you have by maxing out retirement accounts? We show you the numbers.
Everywhere you look, experts are telling you to contribute to your retirement accounts. Whether it’s advice from newspapers, blogs, financial planners, or friends, any advice that is worth taking must include planning for retirement. Why? Because it’s that important!
Over time, setting aside a small portion of your monthly income can mean the difference between living a comfortable retirement and not being able to retire at all. But how much should you put away?
One of the most common rules of thumb is to stick 10% of your income into a retirement account. If you have a work-sponsored plan, like a 401(k), you should always invest enough to at least meet your company match. But again, these numbers are a bare minimum for retirement savings. Why not save more if you can?
While the advice to save for your retirement is certainly sound, few people actually consider what saving more could mean for their future. Why stop at saving 10%? Why not save 15-20%? Heck, what would happen if you got really aggressive? How rich could you be if you actually maxed out your retirement accounts each year? Let’s take a look.
2024 IRS Contribution Limits for 401(k) Plans and IRAs
Every few years, the Internal Revenue Service adjusts the total amount of money that you are allowed to place into your retirement accounts. Contribution limits are going up in 2024, increasing to $23,000 for 401(k) and other workplace retirement plans and $7,000 for IRA and Roth IRA accounts. In addition, the IRS allows taxpayers who are 50 and older to make “catch-up” contributions. In 2024, these allow an additional $7,500 contribution for 401(k) plans and $1,000 for IRAs. We can expect these limits to increase in the future, although it is not certain when that will happen.
Our Assumptions
That being said, we need to make a few assumptions in order to calculate the amount of wealth we can build by maxing out our retirement plans. To begin, we’ll assume that we’re going to be making regular contributions only, so we will not be adding additional money for “catch-up” contributions.
Additionally, we’ll make all of our calculations based on the current contribution limits — $23,000 for 401(k) plans and $7,000 for IRAs. Again, if history repeats itself, those limits will be increased in the future. (We won’t account for that here, though.) Furthermore, we’ll assume that our investments will compound on an annual basis. And, finally, we’ll assume a very conservative growth rate of 5%.
Maxing Out Your 401(k)
Using a free compound interest calculator, let’s take a look at 401(k) plans. First, let’s assume that you are currently saving $4,000 a year in your plan and have been doing so since you were 25 years old. Based on our current set of assumptions, you would end up with just over $500,000 in your retirement account at age 65. Not bad, right?
And had you started saving this much at age 20, you would end up with $670,740 by the time 65 rolled around. Better yet, if you can stick it out for just 5 more years, you’ll end up with $879,261 over a 50-year time period. As you can see, compound interest plays a huge role, especially over the last few years.
Related: The Power of Compound Interest
But, what if you get really aggressive? What if you take a page out of the extreme early retirement book, cut your spending to the bone, and max out your 401(k) account? Here’s what you’ll save:
After 10 Years – $303,756
After 20 Years – $798,542
After 30 Years – $1,604,498
After 40 Years – $2,917,314
After 50 Years – $5,055,754
Amazing, right? By maxing out your 401(k), you could save about $300,000 more in 20 years than you would have saved in 40 with just a $4,000 a month contribution. You’ll have over $5 million more over a 50-year period.
Maxing Out Your IRA
Of course, maxing out a 401(k) plan can seem totally out of reach for most individuals. It’s much more feasible for someone to max out their IRA plan at $7,000 per year. If you did that, here’s an estimate of what you’d end up with:
After 10 Years – $92,447
After 20 Years – $243,034
After 30 Years – $488,325
After 40 Years – $887,878
After 50 Years – $1,538,707
Again, you’ll notice the compound interest coming in strong toward the end. Your savings almost doubled over just the last 10 years. So, the longer you can hang in there, the better off your finances will be.
Maxing Out Both Your 401(k) and IRA Plans
Now, let’s imagine that you have done extremely well for yourself and are able to max out both your 401(k) plan and your IRA. How much wealth can you build then?
After 10 Years – $396,203
After 20 Years – $1,041,577
After 30 Years – $2,092,823
After 40 Years – $3,805,192
After 50 Years – $6,594,461
Obviously, this type of money should provide you with a wonderfully comfortable retirement.
The Takeaway
Remember, these numbers are all for individual investors. Married couples can combine their retirement savings to increase their wealth-building power. So, while saving $23,000 a year by yourself may not be within reach, it could be achievable as a household.
Rather than deflate or discourage you, hopefully, these numbers will motivate you to save as much as you can for as long as you can do it. The power of compounding interest is real, and you can make it work to your advantage. The more you are able to save, the better off you’ll be in retirement.
More so than anything else, these numbers should be a reminder that putting money away for retirement is a long-term proposition. The earlier you start saving, the more success you’ll have. You have to play the long game with your focus firmly set on the future. If you ride the ups and downs of the market, save until it hurts, and remember to be patient, you could end up being extremely wealthy in the end.

Blogger
My favorite online typing job is to start your own blog.
I spend most of my working time typing, and I really enjoy it!
Blogging allows me to travel whenever I would like, work from home, have a flexible schedule, earn an income, and more.
I created Making Sense of Cents in 2011, and since then I have earned over $5,000,000 with my blog.
My blog was created on a random day as a way to track my own personal finance progress. And when I first started my own blog, I honestly didn’t even know that people could make money blogging or how to start a successful blog!
I did not create Making Sense of Cents to earn money from home, but after only six months, I began to make money.
Blogging is quite affordable to start too, and you really just need a computer and an internet connection. I spend most of my time typing new blog posts, talking to readers and companies through email, and more.

You might be proofreading books, articles, blog posts, student essays, lessons, scripts, emails, advertising content, medical documents, and more – anything that can be delivered electronically and be proofread on a computer or tablet.

Affiliate marketer
I am an affiliate marketer through this blog, Making Sense of Cents, and I spend most of my working hours typing.
I think this can be a great way to earn income if you are interested in finding an online typing career path.
Affiliate marketing is when you earn an income by placing a referral link on your website, blog, Instagram, and so on and have people purchase a product or service through your referral link.
An example would be selling a book and you link to a specific book on your blog and try to get people to purchase the book through your affiliate link.
If you get someone to sign up through your affiliate link, the company (such as Amazon) pays you for sharing the product that they sell through the affiliate link.

As a scopist, you would be typing from home.
Scoping is when you are editing legal documents for court reporters. This is different from proofreading for court reporters.
Scopists who are working with a court reporter tend to earn around $30,000 to $45,000 each year working around full-time hours.
I interviewed an expert on the topic – Linda from Internet Scoping School. She has been scoping for over 35 years and has taught scoping online for around 20 years.
She has a free course that will introduce you to scoping so that you can decide if it’s one of the online business ideas you want to pursue. You can find the free course by clicking here.

Google rater
A search engine evaluator (also known as a Google rater) is a person who rates websites based on their quality and usefulness.
You are rating websites to help Google improve its search engine results.
This can be a great online typing job for beginners because you don’t need experience in this area to start, nor do you have to know what you are doing. This is because Google wants average people rating their sites.
Another great thing – since Google operates in nearly every country around the world, you can work on sites that are in your native language.

What do you think are the best online typing jobs?
More than 30 percent of North Las Vegas residents who own a home could be considered “house poor,” according to a new study from Chamber of Commerce, an online business resource website.
The municipality came in No. 11 in the country, with 18 of the top 50 cities falling within California. The study breaks down how much people still owe on outstanding mortgages, and approximately 61 percent of all homeowners nationwide are still in debt. Fontana, California has the highest percentage of people with unpaid mortgages in the country at 82 percent.
Collin Czarnecki, who led research for the study, which used U.S. Census data, said there are a few factors that contributed to North Las Vegas’ high ranking.
“North Las Vegas has experienced significant growth, which has attracted new homeowners to the area,” he said in an email response to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “From 2012 to 2022, North Las Vegas’ population increased by 25 percent, according to the Census Bureau. The high percentage of new homeowners is also evident in the fact that the median homeowner tenure in North Las Vegas is only about six years.”
Czarnecki also noted there is a financial aspect to consider with the municipality. The city has 39,101 residents with unpaid mortgages, making up 76 percent of the population and an average monthly mortgage payment of $1,549.
“Thirty one percent of homeowners in North Las Vegas could be classified as ‘house poor.’ This means they are allocating more than 30 percent of their income toward monthly housing expenses, including mortgage payments and utilities. This financial strain may be causing homeowners in North Las Vegas to take longer to pay off their mortgages, as a significant portion of them are living beyond their means when it comes to monthly housing expenses.”
The city of Las Vegas ranked 56th out of all cities in the country (69 percent still have outstanding mortgages), and Henderson was 63rd and Reno was 88th. The study notes that 28 percent of Henderson homeowners could be classified as “home poor”, and that Henderson has seen a 25 percent population growth since 2012, and approximately 69 percent of its residents have unpaid mortgages.
The co-owners of a Yakima-based online business offering home décor, gifts and other hosting and kitchen items have opened a brick-and-mortar location in Glenwood Square.
Lexi Borton and Morgan Robinson began their online Table Envy “tablescape” rental business in 2020, just as the COVID pandemic shifted many gatherings from public places to private homes. It provided the items and décor necessary to host parties and other events.
That business led to Tavolo Shoppe, which offers many of the Table Envy rental items for sale. Those include charcuterie boards, dough boards, glassware, linens and pantry items.
Borton said other popular items at Tavolo, the Italian word for “table,” include candles, ceramics, spices and pillows.
After establishing Tavolo online in October, a physical location in Glenwood Square became available. The shopping center at 5110 W. Tieton Drive in Yakima is housed in a refurbished fruit warehouse and includes several restaurants, stores and services such as beauty salons.
“We love this space. We feel like it really fits our style,” Borton said of the Glenwood Square building. “Being in a place with a lot of restaurants and retail businesses has been fun. It allows us to meet a lot more people.”
Tavolo opened its Glenwood Square location in mid-June and is located on the first floor in Suite 220, immediately inside Entrance 1 on the west side of the building. It is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call 509-206-8766 or visit tavoloshoppe.com for more information.
