“A little over a year ago I began feeling a nudge that I could not ignore,” said Broughton. “After much thought and even more prayer, I have made the very difficult decision to move on from my retail storefront in Schenectady.”
Broughton opened Bluebird in August 2013. The shop features handmade, vintage, and new art, rugs, pillows, mugs, cards, clothing, and other home decor items. Broughton does not know what she’ll be doing in the future but said she’ll still be around selling her products in some way.

Everything in the store is now on sale and all sales are final, said Broughton. The shop is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bluebird will be open through mid-March, said Broughton. She hopes to have a tent sale in May and a holiday shop somewhere in the Capital Region for the holiday season.

“It has been one of the greatest honors and blessings of my life to create and share this space with you all,” said Broughton. “I will miss you all dearly. My sincerest thanks and deepest gratitude for all of your support over the years.”
Creating an indoor garden can bring life and vibrancy to your living space. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a first-time plant owner, there are important distinctions to understand and consider in an indoor garden. Let’s explore the benefits of indoor gardens, dos and don’ts for indoor gardening and garden ideas to get you started on your green thumb journey.
Indoor garden ideas by plant type and lifestyle
Perhaps the most exciting step of your indoor plant-growing adventure is selecting the greenery that fits best with your lifestyle and personal aesthetic. Certain plants require daily attention while others require little to no upkeep, making selecting the right plant around your specific lifestyle imperative. When deciding between potted plants, hanging plants and climbing plants, it’s good to consider how much responsibility you have to give to your indoor garden.
If you’re always busy:
Succulents: This plant is growing in popularity and for good reason, they require little care. Succulents rarely need watering, making them perfect for the busy indoor gardener who struggles to add more to their to-do list.
Snake plants: These low-maintenance plants are perfect for enhancing your apartment without inflicting on your busy schedule. Not only do snake plants thrive in any light (including low natural light), but they are only required to be watered once every two weeks.
If you’re not home a lot:
Air plants: Air plants survive on just that — air. These self-sufficient plants don’t even require soil and absorb most nutrients from the air. They’ll enjoy an occasional misting but require little to no attention or light.
Spider plants: Even with a scary name, these plants have become well-loved additions for many spaces, and they’re ideal for someone who is rarely home. They handle irregular watering well, lending themselves to your ever-changing schedule perfectly.
If you have pets:
Bamboo plant: These non-toxic ferms are the perfect addition to any room. Along with their stunning stature, they provide peace of mind for your cats, dogs or other pets.
Boston fern: This non-toxic option is a popular addition to a hanging garden as a great hanging plant, making it a perfect option for pets who may bite or knock over plants. Even if you choose to place this plant lower, your pets are safe.
If you love to cook:
Herbs: The options are truly endless when it comes to an indoor herb garden. Consider basil, rosemary, thyme and mint to add the homegrown touch of fresh herbs to your favorite meals.
Aloe vera: While not necessary for a chef, this is a great plant to have on hand for any accidental kitchen burns. Plus, it’s very easy to care for.
If you are a maximalist:
Prayer plant: If you’re looking for a boisterous plant for your indoor garden, the Prayer plant has a beautiful pattern sure to stop guests in their tracks. Its lemon-lime coloring makes it a great addition to your maximalist pad.
Fiddle leaf fig: A large and in-charge plant, the fiddle leaf fig is sure to be the star of the show in your indoor garden. Not only do these thrive indoors, but they also add a touch of lush greenery to your vibrant space.
Plant combinations we love for your indoor garden
Want to transport yourself to a tropical paradise? Combine tropical plants like alocasia, bird of paradise, calathea and spider plant for a stunning and exotic-feeling indoor garden.
If you’re looking for a more zen garden feel, consider mixing a bonsai tree, lucky bamboo and peace lily. Together, these gorgeous potted plants will bring a sense of tranquility to any indoor space.
Awaken your sense of smell with lavender, jasmine and geraniums. This trio sits perfectly on a sunny windowsill and will fill your small room with a delightful smell.
Dos and don’ts of an indoor garden
Growing plants is a commitment, small or large, depending on the indoor plants selected. In order to successfully bring your indoor garden ideas to life, consider these dos and don’ts of an indoor garden.
Do:
Assess lighting conditions: Understand the natural light available in your space. Most plants require some level of direct sunlight, so choose plants that match the lighting conditions in your desired indoor garden rooms.
Select your plants carefully: Choosing the right plants for your garden ensures the garden is visually pleasing and easy to maintain. Consider starting with one or two plants from the list above that fit your lifestyle.
Invest in quality soil when needed: Not all plants require soil (air plants) and some may even come with soil when purchased. However, when necessary, it’s important to invest in a good potting mix suitable for your plant types. Learn more about soil types here.
Create a watering schedule: Different plants require different watering needs. Be mindful not to overwater; it’s often better to underwater than overwater. Invest in a sauce to keep under the floor or table plants to collect any access water. Also, misting often is important. Certain types of plants thrive in humidity, so spritzing your plant that requires a humid environment needs to be a priority.
Don’t:
Overcrowd plants: Leave room in between plants so they can thrive and grow. Indoor gardens lack sunlight, making it important each plant can get ample sunlight.
Tend to them too much: Too much water will drown your plant. In the same way, too much fertilizer can harm your plants. Follow recommended feeding schedules and watering schedules based on plant type.
Neglect pest control: Keep an eye out for pests. Early detection of any pesky unwanted guests can save your plants. Use natural remedies or plant-friendly bug deterrents when needed.
What if you want to grow a spice garden?
Compared to an outdoor green space, an indoor spice garden is much less difficult. Still, there are decisions to make and steps to follow to achieve success!
Step 1: Pick a location (or two!)
As all plants require at least some sunlight to grow, identify the window spaces that have the best light for the herbs you’re growing. South-facing windows offer the most sunlight during the winter, so those are the best choice for plants that grow best in tropical climates, such as thyme, basil, oregano, rosemary and bay laurel. However, herbs like mint, chives, chervil and parsley don’t require such heavy light, so nurture those near east or west-facing windows.
If you want to get really fancy try setting up grow lights for best results, especially when growing from seeds. Then, it won’t really matter where the plants are!
Step 2: Choose herbs, then purchase plants or plant seeds
Purchase plants any time of year! Pick up a few from the local nursery and consider buying more attractive containers than those plain, black plastic ones they come in. Think farmhouse chic, a la Joanna Gaines!
If planting from seed, start in spring. Buy the seeds you want, as well as a bag of seed-starting potting mix. This is very important because heavier types of potting soil aren’t good for helping the germination process.
Some people opt to start the seed-planting process in plastic trays that have a lot of individual cells. Then, transplant the sprouts into clay pots. But you can do either! Whichever container type you select, place the newly seeded containers out of direct light in a warm room. Use clear plastic to cover them until germination happens, then take the plastic off and place it in sunlight or under grow lights (preferably the latter).
Step 3: Water and fertilize
Water is another essential ingredient to herb garden success. Be careful not to add too much of a good thing, however. Do not allow the soil to get very wet. Instead, water lightly using a watering can or sprayer to keep the soil slightly moist.
Frequency of watering really depends on how quickly your plants dry out. The amount of sunlight and temperature inside the apartment affects this. Do a fingertip test to make sure each plant really needs watering before you do it.
Starting a week or so after germination, use a liquid houseplant fertilizer a couple of times a month. Follow directions accordingly.
Step 4: Harvest
Don’t cut into that brand-new plant right away! Instead, wait to start snipping until the plant is at least four to six inches tall.
To harvest, cut the outside leaves first. Use kitchen scissors or shears that are both clean and sharp. This will help the plant heal more quickly. Take care not to cut more than one-third of the plant at any given time, so that it can grow and mature at a good, strong pace.
If the plant starts to flower be sure to pinch the buds off, or else it will change from a producing plant to one that is more interested in reproduction.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Your enjoyment of these herbs is only limited by your imagination! Top your favorite dishes with fresh green onion or cilantro, or cook with sage or thyme for extra flavor. Some even go well as cocktail garnishes (mint)!
The best herbs to grow in your indoor spice garden
The great thing about growing your own herb garden is that you don’t have to plant anything that doesn’t suit your palate. Not a fan of cilantro? Don’t even bother! Put basil on everything? Plant extra!
Certain herbs are extra popular in DIY gardens. When you’re planning your garden, consider these versatile cooking herbs:
Lemongrass: Fans of Asian cuisine should definitely plant this easy to grow herb.
Parsley: This one is tricky to grow from seed, so perhaps start off with a plant, instead. Never transplant parsley from one container to another!
Rosemary: A must for soups and stews, this aromatic herb grows best in full sun.
Mint: One of the easiest to grow, mint is a great addition to just about any type of recipe.
Chives: Another on the cinch list, chives grow quickly and with little help. They make a wonderful and tasty garnish atop many dishes!
Basil: A little trickier than some herbs to grow, basil is well worth the extra effort.
FAQs: bringing your indoor garden ideas to life
Embracing your green thumb can come with some questions. Whether you’re dealing with a potted plant, living wall, trailing plants or edible greens, you’re sure to encounter a myriad of challenges and curiosities along your gardening journey. Here are the answers and tips for some challenges or questions you may encounter.
How do I know if my plant needs water?
You can test the soil with your finger. Stick your finger into the soil about an inch deep and if it feels dry, it’s time to water. Some plants also show signs like drooping leaves when thirsty. It’s best to google your specific plant if you’re unsure.
Do I need to repot my plants?
A good rule of thumb to follow is replacing the pot every 1-2 years. If the plant is outgrowing the pot, then a replacement pot is also necessary.
What do brown or yellow leaves mean?
Leaves that turn brown or a yellowish color are typically a sign of something wrong. Most likely, this is a sign of overwatering or underwatering. Try checking the soil moisture and adjusting your watering routine as needed. Then, trim off the affected leaves to encourage new growth.
What are some benefits of an indoor garden, beyond aesthetic appeal?
Indoor gardening can alleviate stress, enhance creativity and increase productivity. Additionally, some studies prove houseplants may have a positive impact on the air quality within your home as well.

New York City is a packed metropolis with many hidden nooks and crannies and surprises. As you can imagine, New York secrets abound, and to compile them all would probably take multiple volumes. Sufficed to say, the Big Apple is a fascinating place and is always one of the best cities ever!
We’ve compiled some New York secrets and quirky facts for you below.
33 New York secrets and facts from the mundane to the really weird
1. The Lenape tribe originally inhabited the area now known as New York City. They called the area Manna-hata, roughly translating to a place where you find wood for bows (and arrows).
2. When the Dutch founded a trading post in 1625 on the south part of what is now Manhattan Island, they named it New Amsterdam, after the capital city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
3. The name Wall Street refers to a wooden wall originally used to protect “New Amsterdam” from Native Americans and the British.
4. The British then conquered the Dutch in a fight for New Amsterdam (well, the Dutch surrendered before bloodshed). New York became the town’s name after British monarch King Charles II gave the land to his brother James Stuart, Duke of York.
5. The influence of the Dutch still lives on in New York, however. They named Brooklyn and Harlem after Dutch towns. Both neighborhoods offer some great apartments for rent in N.Y.C.
6. Did you know SoHo was New York’s red light district before becoming an artist enclave?
7. SoHo has several hidden restaurants or secretive eateries, such as the exclusive après ski fondue chalet hidden inside Café Select located behind the kitchen through a door labeled “No entry, employees only.”
8. If you like pirates, well, pirates like New York! Captain William Kidd a.k.a. Captain Kidd was a Scottish-born pirate (1654–1701) who spent part of his life in New York City. He actually buried treasure (later recovered) on Gardiner’s Island, which is off of Long Island.
9. It’s not so much a New York secret itself as what secrets it might contain: The Morbid Anatomy Library (which had a previous incarnation as the Morbid Anatomy Museum) is a fascinating research library and creepy collection in Brooklyn that houses all sorts of rare books, prints and photographs, art and other “ephemera” that relate to medicine, anatomy and death. It’s free and open to the public.
10. Some swear that there’s a reason why New York bagels are so much better than those made just about anywhere else. The secret? It’s not in the recipe. It’s in the N.Y.C. water, delivered virtually unfiltered from the New York Catskill Mountains and has a unique proportion of calcium and magnesium, which makes N.Y. bagels soft and chewy on the inside and delightfully crispy on the outside.
11. Underneath the world-famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel are secret train tracks built in the 1930s to shuttle President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in order to keep his polio disease a secret from the public.
12. If there’s ever another Night at the Museum movie based in New York, we can imagine they might use the World War I fighter plane found on the roof of 77 Water Street in the Financial District. Sure, the astroturf runway isn’t real and there’s probably no gas in it, but this British Sopwith Camel fighter plane arrived in 1969 as a publicity stunt to keep watch over Manhattan.
13. There’s a gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright house on Staten Island called the Crimson Beech, but we won’t share the address for the reasons of privacy. (You can probably find photos of the architectural gem by searching online, of course.)
14. Yes, that’s a submerged, rusting yellow submarine sitting in Coney Island Creek off of Brooklyn. It’s a homemade submarine named Quester I, and made of salvaged metal by shipyard worker Jerry Bianco. His intent was to search the wreckage of the SS Andrea Doria but made a wreck himself when the submarine keeled over to the side and partially sank post-launch.
15. The SS Andrea Doria did not sink in Coney Island Creek, by the way, but was on its way from Genoa to New York when the MS Stockholm hit it and it sank. The death toll on the Andrea Doria from the collision was 46, but the sunken ship itself is still claiming victims as it’s now called “The Mt. Everest of Wreck Diving.” Some believe the shipwreck is cursed, as almost 20 divers have perished trying to explore the wreckage. Thus, one can wonder, was Jerry Bianco and his ill-fated yellow submarine also cursed? Or, did this Brooklyn submarine failure save him from a possibly worse fate had he reached the Andrea Doria?
16. Five large pieces of the Berlin Wall have lived on in N.Y.C., although one large segment was apparently put in storage. Artist Peter Max carved another to put on display at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum but returned it to the owner many years ago to the original owner.
17. Rockefeller Center is actually home to several secret gardens that live upon its various roofs, some with lovely reflecting pools.
18. Speaking of New York gardens, one of the smallest gardens in the city is actually an overgrown alleyway with a few benches called Septuagesimo Uno, located on the Upper West Side. At a mere two-fifths of an acre, this teeny park gives the term “pocket park” a run for its money.
19. There are six other parks in N.Y.C. that are smaller than Septuagesimo Uno, but most are not very usable: the smallest being McNally Plaza, basically an iron fence surrounding a solemn stone marker honoring the veterans of World War I.
20. Some people call the Tabernacle Prayer Church in Queens “N.Y.C.’s Best Kept Secret.” Why? The beautiful church building, outrageously ornate in a good way, was a lavish movie theater that opened in 1929. The historic landmark now offers regular church services with rousing gospel music.
21. While we don’t recommend it, many urban explorers have illegally gone to the abandoned 13-acre North Brother Island located in the East River out of the fascination of the ruins there. A hospital located on the island where people who were sick with contagious diseases, such as tuberculosis, smallpox, yellow fever, typhus and typhoid fever, quarantined. The island is now a bird sanctuary.
22. If you thought Typhoid Mary was just a legend, no, she actually lived on North Brother Island in quarantine starting in 1908 for more than 20 years. She infected 53 people with typhoid fever despite being asymptomatic. (She was a cook and kept on cooking for the public despite being told to stop by health authorities.)
23. North Brother Island was also the location of the biggest loss of life in the city until 9/11. In 1903, a steamboat named General Slocum was on its way to Long Island for an annual church picnic. Fire bloomed in one of the machine rooms, and allegedly a 12-year-old boy tried to warn the captain but he brushed it off. When the boat sank, it was on the banks of North Brother Island, and more than 1,000 people died.
24. Perhaps due to this event, the patients who died on the island haunt North Brother Island and sometimes residents hear screams from the hospital ruins and see ghosts on the island’s shores from Manhattan.
25. Many consider the most haunted place in N.Y.C. the aptly named “House of Death” located in Greenwich Village. Built in 1856, This modest-looking brownstone apparently houses the ghost of Mark Twain, although he himself only lived there for a little more than a year. At the House of Death, Mark Twain allegedly saw a piece of wood kindling move on its own so he shot it and it dripped blood — though Twain himself said this must have been from a rat moving the wood.
26. Jan Bryant Bartell was a writer and actress who lived in Mark Twain’s spooky house starting in 1957 and wrote about her unsettling paranormal experiences there in the book “Spindrift.” She eventually died under mysterious circumstances in 1973. Later, one of the most disturbing events at the House of Death was when a father murdered his own six-year-old after a cocaine binge back in 1987.
27. Radio City Music Hall is haunted, as many theaters in N.Y.C. are, but that’s not its best secret. There’s actually a secret apartment in Radio City Music Hall, created for theater impresario (producer) Samuel “Roxy” Rothafel (1882-1936). This beautiful art deco apartment with 20-foot-high ceilings entertained luminaries, such as Olivia de Havilland and Alfred Hitchcock. Abandoned for a while after Roxy’s death, it now rents for private luxury events.
28. If you really want to live in style, check out the most expensive apartment in New York City, costing $192,000 per year.
29. Are there really “mole people” living underneath the streets of N.Y.C.? Yes, and many of them say they prefer to live there where no one bothers them with taxes or rent. Stories of underground cannibalism, alligators and elaborate secret passages ala Beauty and the Beast are greatly exaggerated New York secrets, however.
30. Speaking of secret passages, there’s a fake brownstone in Brooklyn Heights that hides a subway ventilator. It’s also said to host a secret passageway to the 4/5 trains below.
31. This isn’t the only fake rowhome in N.Y.C. A Con Edison substation located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx has a façade that consists of beautiful, almost-too-pristine-looking townhomes.
32. Wondering why there are black squirrels in N.Y.C.? It’s due to a recessive gene that tends to come out in more isolated squirrel populations, which can happen on urban islands. Black fur may also keep the squirrels warmer.
33. Frank Sinatra’s iconic “New York, New York” was originally sung by Liza Minelli in the 1977 movie “New York, New York.” If you haven’t heard her sing it yet, drop what you are doing and prepare to be wowed.
Experience “The City” for yourself with a New York apartment
We’ve shared some fun New York City secrets. To learn real New York City secrets, you’ll need to live there. While rent is definitely more expensive in N.Y.C. than your average town, you can still find many great apartments for rent in New York.
Of the eight million homeowners currently not making mortgage payments, six million are expected to lose their homes over the next two years, according to the latest Market Intelligence newsletter from John Burns Real Estate Consulting.
As a result, the national homeownership rate will fall to just 61.7 percent.
Here’s the math:
The numbers might be even worse if you factor in the additional five million homeowners with no equity in their homes, assuming they strategically default.
Fortunately, most borrowers don’t walk away voluntarily until equity falls to -62 percent of their home’s value, at least that’s how the study from the Federal Reserve goes.
You could also argue that homeowners with less than five percent home equity could default as well, as you need an equity cushion to unload a home to pay for associated closing costs (and to buy a new one).
John Burns also noted that “loan modifications have little prayer of helping,” citing the fact that homeowners who received permanent loan modifications use more than 30 percent of their income to pay off debt other than the mortgage.
And we all know consumers prefer to pay their credit cards over their mortgages.
The sliver of good news is that 58 percent of homeowners can afford the median priced home vs. 45 percent historically.

#1 – Wake up early
Wake up early to get more done in the morning.
Go to bed at a reasonable time so you can sleep well and be refreshed for the day.
Here are some tips to make waking up easier:
Have a wind-down process before bedtime.
Switch off screens an hour or two before you plan to go to bed so you sleep easily when the sun rises at 5 am.
Wake up five minutes earlier than you do now and work your way up until you wake up an hour earlier.
Waking up early is a simple change that anyone can make!
To get up early, go to bed earlier. The key to getting up early is going to bed early and having a wind-down routine so you sleep easily when you get into bed.
#2 – Meditate
Meditation can aid in concentration, creativity and reduce stress.
There are a variety of ways to meditate, including sitting quietly and focusing on your breathing.
When it comes to improving productivity, many people think that meditation is a waste of time. However, this could not be further from the truth.
In fact, there are a number of reasons why you should meditate every day:
Lowers your stress levels
Helps you focus
Improves creativity
Provides answers to unexpected problems
Helps make decision making easier
Keeps you less distracted throughout the day.
The hardest part of meditation is getting started, but it’s worth it if you have the discipline to stick with it for even 5 minutes a day or do some other form of relaxation therapy before falling asleep at night.
It doesn’t matter how long you do it, as long as you’re getting the benefits from it.
#3 – Glass of Water
Drinking water in the morning can improve general health and well-being.
Celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, and Cameron Diaz have touted the benefits of drinking water regularly.
Water is essential for life. In fact, our body is composed of about 60% water. We lose water every day through sweating, breathing, and urination, so it’s important to replenish our fluid intake. Drinking a glass of water in the morning can reduce calorie intake and improve mental performance.
Drinking water in the morning can help you stay alert, make you more energetic, and provide the necessary fuel for your brain. It’s important to drink water first thing in the morning because it hydrates quickly and fuels your body. Drinking water is also a great way to hydrate for a long day of work or play later on that day.
#4 – Exercise
The wealthiest people in the world begin their days with some exercise. They choose to perform this activity in the morning so that it doesn’t get forgotten among all their other daily responsibilities.
Richard Branson, a British billionaire, exercises every morning without fail.
Exercising boosts your confidence, has positive effects on your mood, and helps them focus throughout the day.
The key is to find a way to incorporate exercise into your routine each day. Find an exercise that works for you and stick with it.
Wake up early and exercise. Exercise is a great way to start your day off on the right foot. It gets your blood flowing and helps you wake up mentally and physically. Plus, it’s a great way to get in some extra fitness goals for the day!
#6 – Read a book
Reading can boost cognitive activity in the brain. This means that you’ll be more alert and prepared for whatever challenges the day throws your way!
Also, reading before bed can help calm the mind and prepare the body for sleep.
# 7 – Eat a healthy breakfast
Many successful people have made breakfast a key part of their morning routine.
Starting your day off with a filling meal can help you stay focused, give you more energy, and help you concentrate on the work you need to accomplish later in the day.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s especially important to eat a healthy breakfast. Eating breakfast helps your body and mind function at their best. It can give you energy for the day ahead, help you focus, and provide necessary nutrients for your brain.
There are many different types of healthy breakfasts that you can try. Some people like to have eggs, others prefer yogurt or granola. Kelly Ripa has coffee, yogurt, and granola as a breakfast routine; Barack Obama has eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast. Reese Witherspoon’s go-to green smoothie recipe has been her breakfast routine for the last nine years. Idris Elba keeps it simple with toast during his morning routine.
No matter what you choose to eat for breakfast, make sure you drink plenty of water as well.
On the flip side of the coin is fasting during breakfast and maybe even lunch.
#8 – Plan your day the night before
Plan out your day ahead of time. One of the best ways to ensure that you make the most of your time is by planning out your day ahead of time. This will help keep you organized and focused on what’s important.
Determining when during the day is the best time to tackle your toughest jobs can help reduce stress and increase performance.
Journal your thoughts, plan your day, and focus on what you want in life.
Goals don’t happen unless they are written down and acted upon.
One way to make sure you start your day off on the right foot is by planning your day the night before. This way, you can wake up knowing what you need to do and have a plan in place for how you’re going to get it done.
Reflecting in the evening about what you want for yourself can help solidify your intentions and give them power by writing them down for review each day.
#9 – Plan the day ahead
Others prefer to plan their day in the morning.
Getting out of bed and putting your best foot forward EVERY SINGLE DAY is important for having a successful morning routine.
By planning out your tasks, you will be better prepared to face any challenges that come your way during the day.
To help with this, try creating a morning routine that fosters a healthy mind, body, and spirit. This will get you ready to operate at peak performance.
In order to be successful, you have to know your schedule so you can plan time blocks for specific activities. There are only so many hours in a day – you must make sure they are well spent.
#10 – Create your routine
Creating a routine for your morning will help you accomplish more with your time, starting your day off on the right foot, and it will also give you a chance to start your day off with joy before any hustle or stress begins.
Some of the benefits of a millionaire morning routine include stress-free, accomplished things, and increased levels of happiness.
However, remember that the Millionaire Morning Routine is not the only one out there! You can start your day by hitting the ground running but don’t copy and paste a billionaire’s exact routine. Billionaires set their days apart with goals, so try our goal-setting worksheet to get a head start!
There are many factors to consider when deciding if a millionaire morning routine is for you, such as the goals you want to achieve and your schedule.
However, you need to create a routine that works for you. Below, you will see some samples from billionaires, but at the end of the day, it has to work for you.
When you have something to look forward to at the beginning of each day, it helps reduce stress and makes you happier. It’s also a way to get your day started on the right foot.
What time does the average billionaire wake up?
There is no average billionaire wake up time because there is no average billionaire.
However, it is well known that most millionaires and top executives wake up early in the morning. Some may be up by 4 am while others start their days between 6-7 am.
This gives them plenty of time to get ready for their day and start working on their goals.
Waking up early is a great way to start your day. You have more time to get things done, and you’re less likely to be stressed out. In addition, it’s a good opportunity to meditate and clear your mind before getting started on your work.
Billionaire Morning Routine Examples
There’s no one right way to have a successful morning routine, but many millionaires and billionaires have habits that they credit with helping them achieve their goals.
Others include setting priorities for the day and planning ahead.
There are many different morning routines that billionaires follow in order to achieve success. Some of these routines include waking up early, exercising, and reading. Others involve spending time with family and friends or networking.
No matter what a billionaire’s routine may be… the most important thing is that they stick to it and make sure they are taking steps each day to move closer to their goals.
These billionaires have different workdays, but all follow a similar daily routine to keep their minds and bodies in check.
Elon Musk Morning Routine
Elon Musk is a well-known entrepreneur and investor. He is the founder, CEO, and CTO of SpaceX, co-founder of Tesla Motors, and chairman of SolarCity. He also has a keen interest in artificial intelligence.
First of all, sleep for Musk is minimal with him going to bed around 1 am and back working by 7 am.
Musk has a routine that includes 5 minute blocks. In each block, he does one thing that is important to him. This could be making calls, sending emails, or working on a project. By doing this, he is able to focus on one task at a time and avoid distractions.
Musk’s routine also includes planning out how long it will take him to complete tasks throughout the day so that he can be sure not to waste time on tasks that are unnecessary or take too much time. This prevents him from feeling rushed and allows him to focus on the most important tasks. He makes a solid plan for his day in order to prioritize what he needs to accomplish – even though it may not go as he planned.
Kylie Jenner Morning Routine
Jenner wakes up early which is credited to her mom as setting an example for rising early. This self-made billionaire is not sleeping in at all, especially with her daughter.
The most intensive part of her morning routine is getting herself glammed up for the day. She will not eat breakfast without her makeup on. Workouts? She is known to work out 1-2 times a day depending on her schedule.
Finally, she eats breakfast and starts working on her business.
Waking up early and exercising sets the tone for the rest of her day and allows her to get things done efficiently.
Jack Dorsey Morning Routine
Jack Dorsey is the founder of Twitter and Square. He has a very unique morning routine that some people might find inspiring.
He wakes up at 5:00 am and spends his early hours on personal care.
First, Dorsey starts off by taking an ice bath to shock his system. This supposedly boosts mental confidence, which is necessary for running two major tech companies.
After the ice bath, he spends 60 minutes meditating in silence. This prepares him for his five-mile walk or jog to work. He skips breakfast, which many people find controversial.
He wraps up his day by journaling and reflecting on what went well and what could be improved.
Warren Buffet Morning Routine
Let’s be honest… many people look at Warren Buffet for inspiration and guidance. He is a wealth of knowledge that has lived throughout many of the toughest points in our nation’s history.
Billionaire Warren Buffet reportedly wakes up at 6:45 am and drinks a can of Coke. Then, he heads to the local McDonald’s for breakfast.
Very opposite of what most people would assume. But this morning routine has served Buffet well for years.
Warren gets down to business. He explains that most days, he just sits in his office and reads finance-related materials all day – specifically related to company financials, market materials, financial journals, and investor reports.
After leaving the office, Buffet goes home and might pick up fast food from time to time, but typically eats at home later in the day. A little reading before bed around 10 pm.
Oprah Winfrey Morning Routine
Oprah Winfrey is a famous American talk show host and actress. She wakes up at around 8:00 AM every day, brushes her teeth, lets the dogs out, and then starts her morning routine.
She places importance on reading at least five cards from her 365 Gathered Truths box each morning. More than likely she started with saying any of these money affirmations before she found her fame.
Oprah has a routine that includes a couple of hours spent on spiritual exercises, followed by an hour of low-impact strength-training program. She also spends time with her family and friends before finally starting work in the afternoon.
Jeff Bezos Morning Routine
Jeff Bezos has a very strict daily routine that he follows. He wakes up early (somewhere between 5:00 am -6:30 am) and begins by reading the news. After that, he spends time with family, eats breakfast, and does various activities that are not work-related.
His first business meeting starts at 10 am normally working on Amazon business matters. He has business meetings and visits fulfillment centers in the afternoon, but avoids important decisions late due to fatigue.
Sleep is important to this entrepreneur and goes to bed earlier than most.

If you struggle with habits, then I highly recommend you read the book Atomic Habits. These habits are easy to incorporate into your own life and will help you accomplish more tasks and live like a billionaire.
How long does the 1 billion dollar morning routine take?
The 1 billion dollar morning routine was created by Jim Kwik, a YouTube creator.
It takes at least one hour to work through his 1 billion dollar morning routine.
Here are the key principles for Jim Kwik’s 1 billion dollar routine (source):
Recall your dreams
Make your bead
Drink water and take supplements
Focus on breathing
Meditate for 15-20 minutes
Move the body for 1-2 minutes
Take a cold shower
Enjoy a cup of tea
Journal
Create 3 lists: to-do list, to-be list, and to-feel list
Read for 20-30 minutes
Make a brain smoothie
Participate in brain training.
Start with the most difficult (and important) task
Self-care, self-love, and setting a vision and direction for the day are essential components of this routine. And don’t forget about hydration! A glass of water is a great way to start your day off on the right foot.
Journaling is another important part of this routine. It allows you to check-in with yourself about your stressors and how to navigate them. Consider implementing a few of these steps into your routine to see how they make you feel.
The 1 billion dollar morning routine may not be feasible for everyone, but some of the steps included are still worth considering (particularly the one about having a plan). Or moving some of the activities to other parts of the day.
What are the habits of a billionaire life?
In order to achieve success in life, it is important to emulate the habits of a billionaire. This may seem daunting at first, but if you take a closer look at what these individuals do on a daily basis, you will find that many of their habits are actually quite attainable.
For example, many billionaires are avid readers and they make sure to read something every day. They also have a strong focus on personal finance and know how to manage their money well. Additionally, they understand the importance of taking care of themselves both physically and mentally. All of these habits are important for anyone looking to achieve success in life!
These types of people are the opposite of I don’t want to work anymore.
What will your productive morning routines look like?
There’s no “right” way to have a productive morning routine – as long as you’re committed to it and conforms to the same principles.
For example, many successful people have different routines but they all commit to following them. This may include things like personal commitment, engagement, team building, and productive motion.
It’s also key to be flexible with your routine so that you can adjust when necessary. For instance, if something comes up or there’s a change in your schedule, you’ll be able to adapt without too much trouble.
The important thing is that you make time for the things that are important to you and that help you achieve your goals.
This might include exercise, breakfast preparation, or “mindful living.”
Whatever it is, make sure it works for you and that you’re actually going to stick with it!
What will go on your Billionaire Morning Routine List?
Most morning routines of millionaires and billionaires weren’t created overnight; they’re crafted over time. Same with buying their mansion.
So don’t worry if you don’t get everything right the first time around–just keep working at it and you’ll see results soon enough!
Get out of bed and put your best foot forward EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Each person’s journey to greatness will be unique, but by following the examples set by these successful individuals, you’ll be on your way to achieving anything you want!
Having a millionaire morning routine means that you start your day stress-free. It also helps you achieve your goals. The benefits of the millionaire morning routine vary depending on the schedule and personality of each individual.
But, in general, incorporating a project into your morning routine can help you feel more in control of your life, boost energy levels throughout the day, and make healthier choices.
In fact, check out these millionaire quotes.
The habits of successful millionaires can be applied to any area of your life for increased success.

Memorial Day is here! It’s become synonymous with being a day to enjoy family, friends and even a having a BBQ, but let’s not forget to take a moment today to remember all our fighting men and women over the years who have made the ultimate sacrifice, by giving their lives so that the rest of us might live free.
Over the years on Memorial Day I’ve had a chance to stop at my grandparent’s graves at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Bloomington, MN.
While I won’t make it there this year, it is always a vivid reminder of just how much so many have given. There is row after row of graves for our military men and women, so many of them having died while fighting for our nation.
A couple of times while I was there I found the graves of Medal of Honor winners there, and it was amazing to read of their sacrifices later on when I got home via a Google search.
My Grandfather’s POW Story
Being at Fort Snelling also reminds me of just how much my grandfather gave, despite the fact that he wasn’t killed in action. My grandfather, Fred Anderson, was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, becoming a prisoner of war in a German POW camp for over a year. What he went through couldn’t have been easy, and I’m just sad that he passed at such a young age (in his 60s) due to Parkinson’s Disease and a stroke. I was never really able to get a full accounting of his experiences as I would have liked.
I recently did find out a bit more about his experience as a prisoner of war by reading a book about the experiences of many others in the same prison camp as him, called The Last Escape, The Untold Story of Alled Prisoners of War in Europe 1944-1945.
My grandfather was a replacement waist gunner on a B-17 that was shot down in February of 1944. He had flown three successful missions with his crew, but on the fourth mission during “The Big Week” (see wikipedia) they were returning from a bombing run over Leipzig, Germany, and were shot down.
The entire crew parachuted out of the plane, but were quickly captured by the Germans. They were sent to Stalag Luft 4 near Grosstychow, Prussia where 6,660 other American POWs were held.
My grandfather’s capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on February 22, 1944, and he was imprisoned for at least 473 days (1 year and ~4 months) according to the Red Cross.
His recollection of being liberated was in a hospital bed. He went to sleep one night in ill health as a prisoner of the Germans, and woke up to find the Russians had overrun the area. He eventually made his way to France where he recuperated, and then on home to Minnesota where he married and had a family, including his firstborn – my father.
When he left home before the war he weighed in at 180 lbs, and came home at a thin 130 lbs at the end of 1945. We’re so thankful he made it back, so many were not so lucky.
Since it is Memorial Day weekend the cemetery will be in full bloom with flags flying, and flowers on countless graves, in remembrance of loved ones. It’s usually a very stirring sight, and I may try to make it down there the day after to get a glimpse – and to say thank you in prayer for all those brave men and women.
So on this Memorial Day weekend, thank you to our veterans, and thank you to those who have already paid the ultimate price. You won’t be forgotten.

A mere lover of silver will not be satisfied with silver, neither any lover of wealth with income. This too is vanity. ~ Ecclesiastes 5:10
This verse tells us what many of us probably already know, or sensed at some point. When you have money – you want more. When you get a raise, you want a bigger one. What we have is almost never enough. What is sad is that we spend so much of our lives chasing after something, only to find that it is, as the verse says, “vanity”.
My prayer for the day is that I will long for things of the kingdom of God, and for things that aren’t vain.
Through all phases of life you are likely to see something or someone that you feel looks better than you or has something you want.
Let me paint a picture for you; You show up to a party and your girlfriend has on a beautiful dress with the purse, shoes and accessories to match and there you are with a dress that is 5 years old and flip-flops.
Meanwhile, your husband is downstairs checking out the finished basement, with a high definition TV and movie style seating. Now what?
Do you completely blow your monthly budget, head to the department store and duplicate her outfit?
Does your husband want to empty out your savings account or charge your credit card so he can have a movie theater in the basement?
OR are you happy that you both have friends to visit, dress and shoes to wear and that fit, a means of transportation to the party, and a house to live in?
I hope you choose the latter, but chances are you will be pulling out the credit card!! It’s natural to feel envious and jealous, but these are also 2 of the 7 deadly sins.
If we are constantly being jealous of others, how are we being thankful for what we have? God wants us to be like Paul and Job, who were content when they had everything and when they had nothing.
Comparing Our Worst To Someone Else’s Best
A celebrity once said that we need to stop comparing our worst to someone else’s best. That struck a nerve because it completely exposed what I have been doing for years.
I am a mother of four children. I lost all my pregnancy weight, but still have the mommy tummy and I am constantly looking at mothers with flat stomachs! I was sick of looking 4 months pregnant and my husband and I visited the plastic surgeon’s office for our free consultation about me getting a tummy tuck. I found out it would cost $5,000 for the procedure. I was ready to schedule my appointment. Two days later, I was laid off.
The only thing I can do now is change my mindset and be thankful that my body did what it needed to birth my healthy children.
Not being content with the blessings God has given us has cost many people hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
Trying to keep up the Jones almost cost me $5,000. How much has it cost you?
Money Can’t Buy Happiness
Now, let me tell you something about the Jones, they are in debt up to their eyeballs.
My husband was a mortgage consultant for over 5 years before he went into banking and worked in a very upscale neighborhood.
Many customers, who made well over $200K, were looking to either refinance their home, get a HELOC, or cash out just to pay off their $100,000 credit card bill.
To make matter worse, during the application process, many husbands learned about their wives spending habits and would end up divorced.
The Jones might have every material possession imaginable, but are they happy? NO, because money does not buy happiness; if it did celebrities would not divorce as often as they do…think about it.
To be clear, there is nothing wrong with having money, the problem is when money has you.
Do you really need the 5,000 square foot house, a $40K wedding, a new Coach bag, the 65″ TV, the newest Apple device, or the trophy Starbuck’s cup?
I can go on and on, but I think you get the point. All these unnecessary materialistic possessions will cost a small fortune.
Saving Money Is Like Going On A Diet
Saving money can be compared to dieting. It is a slow process and you will begin to see changes immediately if done right. BUT, if you are not mentally prepared and committed to eat right AND exercise then all your efforts will be in vain.
The same applies to money. In order to reach financial security you have to save more AND spend less. You might be able to save the money, but will you go off and spend what you have saved as soon as your friend buys a TV bigger than yours or your girlfriends flaunt a new pair of Jimmy Choo sandals.
The act of being content is a challenge that one cannot face alone.
Prayer is one of the most powerful tools God has given us, so use it. When you are feeling envious or jealous, pray for God to remove those thoughts and allow you to be more thankful and content for what you have.
Instead of thinking about everything you don’t have, think about everything you DO have. Be happy that you are alive, have a family, can see, hear, walk, talk, drive a car, have a car to drive, clothes in your closet, food in your refrigerator, water in your faucet, a computer to read this article, the money to pay for the internet, a bed to sleep in, sheets on the bed, and most important a God in Heaven to call Father.
When you see someone with something nice, be happy for them. Tell yourself that they work hard and God has blessed them and will bless you!
Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 It is so easy for us to forget where our priorities lie in this life. We get tied up in the day to day minutia of our jobs, relationships and personal problems, and we forget to do the […]
