There are quite a few homes throughout Minnesota that can be traced back to the legendary musician.

Paisley Park was Prince’s most famous property, with the 65,000-square-foot complex serving as his home, recording studio, and creative sanctuary.

But there was also his former Lake Riley mansion, his private retreat away from the public eye, plus a sprawling estate on Galpin Boulevard in Shorewood, the Purple Rain house in Minneapolis, and quite a few other, lower-profile properties mostly located around Chanhassen and Minnetonka.

Now, freshly landed on the market is a home that undoubtedly held a very dear place in the artist’s heart: a single-level 4-bedroom home in Golden Valley that Prince built for his mom, Mattie Della Shaw Baker.

Listed for a modest $699,900 with Coldwell Banker Realty’s Andrea Soule, the Golden Valley house has quite a few giveaways that it was once owned by music royalty. And its current owners took extra care in preserving some of the rockstar design elements after learning who the home’s former owner was.

The Purple Rain singer, songwriter, and producer, born Prince Rogers Nelson, purchased the property back in 1985 and demolished the former structure to make way for the 3,231-square-foot home.

He then had the current house custom-built for his mother, jazz singer Mattie Della Shaw, who reportedly lived there with one of his brothers until she died, according to court documents filed in a legal fight against Prince’s estate after his death in April 2016. She passed away in 2002, at the age of 68.

When current sellers Alatheia Stenvik and Zachary Johnson bought their suburban Minneapolis home in 2020, they had no idea who its famous former owner was — until they signed the purchase agreement.

Nevertheless, the unique design, more reminiscent of music venues rather than suburban homes, drew them to the property. “It had this glamorous vibe to it unlike anything we’d seen before,” owner Alatheia Stenvik told Minneapolis’ Star Tribune. A vibe they sought to protect, even as they proceeded to renovate the 4-bedroom home.

“In our changes we didn’t want to take away the glam look it had. We wanted to keep the ambiance and its original style,” the owner said.

So they kept the home’s signature sunken living room — still outfitted with its original chandelier and railings — and the bold, black-and-white kitchen.

But it has quite a few upgrades

“Our goal in all of the updates was to make it livable and clean, but we also wanted to keep all the original features of the home,” Stenvik told the Minnesota newspaper.

The couple installed new carpet throughout the house. They also painted the home and invested in some bigger upgrades — that included replacing the roof, gutters, and driveway, and adding a new bedroom in the basement.

Beyond the house’s glamorous past: The Specs

Celebrity aspect aside, the home can hold its weight: Spanning 3,231 square feet, it comes with 4 bedrooms, 1 full bath and 2 half-baths, spacious living areas meant for entertaining, and 2 standout fireplaces, all set on a desirable corner lot near shops, restaurants, and a short drive to downtown Minneapolis. It also has a 2-car garage.

Outside, a catwalk leads to a reinforced deck that can reportedly hold a hot tub. The lot spans 0.49 acres and backs up to a natural buffer by railroad tracks.

Looking to build their own house on a farm, the current owners are ready to pass along the house to someone who can enjoy its many attributes — and great location.

We talking about Michael Lamar White IV here, known to the beat-droppin world as Trippie Redd. The American rapper, singer, and songwriter ain’t just making waves — nah, he’s creating tsunamis with his tracks.

Since bursting into the scene in 2017 with his debut mixtape A Love Letter to You, Trippie has been serving us double platinum-certified singles like a gourmet chef. His studio albums, like Life’s a Trip and Pegasus soared to the top of the Billboard 200.

His artistic alchemy ain’t just in the studio; it spills over into his abode, as majestic and enigmatic as his anthems, recently unveiled on the rapper’s Instagram feed.

Drenched in the slickest shade from roof to floor, Trippie’s all-black Florida mansion is flipping the script on our vanilla home dreams.

Machine Gun Kelly himself, the rap game’s own rocker — who now goes simply by MGK — slid into the comments, hailing Trippie as the “real dark knight” — yeah, Batman’s got nothin’ on this superstar.

And MGK likely knows what he’s talking about, as he and Trippie have been spending lots of time together preparing for the release of their joint album Genre:Sadboy which came out on March 29. So don’t go stepping on Trippie Redd’s toes.

Prior to his $13 million manse purchase, Tyler owned another Bel-Air abode, a lovely mid-century home with contemporary interiors — which he listed for sale in late 2022 for $7 million.

The single-story home was built in 1965, but heavily updated sometime in the 1950s.

Sporting 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a large living room with a fireplace, a huge primary bedroom with two walk-in closets, and a home theatre, the house clearly wasn’t a good fit for the Call Me If You Get Lost rapper.

Less than a year after purchasing it, Tyler listed that property at a loss (he paid $7.9 million for it just 12 months prior).

Hopefully, he’s now found the right fit with his new $13 million Bel Air abode.

Sitting mere minutes away from the Beverly Hills Hotel in the gated Wallingford Estates community. It had previously been owned by healthcare entrepreneur Jeoung Lee before real estate mogul Gala Asher picked it up for $22 million back in 2016.

What followed was an extensive renovation that brought the sprawling mansion into the 21st century. Asher then sought to capitalize on his big investments in the property by listing it for a whopping $135 million in 2018.

With no takers, a series of price adjustments followed, until the famous couple finally took it off the market in 2023. The final sale price was $60,850,000 — which amounts to $1,601/sqft.

The moral of Ben and Jen’s house-hunting saga? Patience pays off. By holding off on their purchase, they were able to find a perfect palace to call their home. A happily-ever-after ending for a Hollywood royal couple.

While he’s been dropping beats, he’s also dropped and set firm roots in a sweet neighborhood.

Believe it or not, he bought the property for less than $1 million.

The palatial estate was reconstructed to ensure it was fit for one of the OG kings of hip-hop. It has now doubled in value, thanks to major improvements and additions to the property.

While Snoop has multiple mansions, his Diamond Bar, California home has been his main residence for over 20 years! Some celebs buy, sell, and trade their houses like it’s a game of Monopoly but Snoop likes to chill back and enjoy when he’s found a good deal.

Before this bargain purchase, the rapper also had another Californian mansion under $1 million, which he sold for more, earning him around $2 million. His real estate moves are as slick as his rhymes!

Snoop Dogg’s first-ever mansion in California

Snoop was discovered by hip-hop legend Dr. Dre back in 1992. He was signed to Death Row and soon dropped his debut album Doggystyle.

After his career took off, he purchased his first mansion in California for $660,000. The Mediterranean-style home originally had 3,700 square feet of living space and was later expanded to 6,527 square feet.

This major renovation saw the value of the home shoot up, enabling Snoop to sell the house for a nifty profit in 2007.

The eight-bedroom home is located in a cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood in Claremont, California. Snoop proudly showcased the property in an episode of MTV Cribs and also introduced his family and pack of dogs to the audience.

His longtime Diamond Bar mansion was purchased for only $720,000

Following the sale of his first mansion, Snoop moved to Diamond Bar, where he bought his beloved home for $720,000.

The gorgeous mansion that has been serving as Snoop Dogg’s house for well over 20 years now has about 4,000 square feet of living space and sits on 2.8 acres of land in a gated community.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion offers luxurious living, with a spacious living room, a formal dining room, a modern kitchen, and a library.

Outdoors, there is a large pool with a jacuzzi, an outdoor patio, and a basketball court. As the home is on top of a hill, panoramic views of the area surround the property.

Snoop loved the community so much that he bought another house on the same street, just minutes away from his main mansion.

According to reports, he only uses his second house as a place where he can relax, play, and work on his music. The three-bedroom house was transformed into a fully functioning recording studio with the best equipment.

Snoop’s music studio complex — The Compound — was custom-made to look like a spaceship

The rapper linked up with Westlake Pro design to create a music studio complex modeled after a spaceship.

The futuristic space dubbed “The Compound” is located in Inglewood, California, and features state-of-the-art technology, recording consoles, and custom furniture.

It has three main rooms named Starship, Battleship, and Mothership — and each area is designed with significant decors, memorabilia, and music equipment.

On the hallways of his music studio, Snoop paid tribute to the greats who have inspired his career.

A mural of N.W.A, which he called “the backbone of West Coast hip-hop”, is displayed proudly alongside Star Wars artwork, as well as framed posters of Snoop’s albums and other prized possessions.

His wife of 26 years, Shante Broadus, also has a special spot in The Compound — a dance studio that pays tribute to performers like Janet Jackson, Beyonce, and Michael Jackson.

The property also houses some of the rapper’s impressive car collection, which includes a Ferrari, a Rolls-Royce Phantom VII, and several classic lowriders.

Currently, the rapper has been busy growing his empire. His career has now come full circle, as he acquired Death Row records in 2022.

“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” the hip-hop icon said.

“It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me… I’m looking forward to building the next chapter of Death Row Records.”

There’s no need for the Super Bowl LVII headliner to travel to Sin City for his hyped halftime show.

Usher has been calling Las Vegas home since mid-2022 when the eight-time Grammy Award-winner started his “My Way” residency and moved his family here.

I began to curate my own little world here, so much so that I’ve actually put a flag in the ground. I’ve actually moved here.”

Usher told The Hollywood Reporter

“For one year I’ve been here. I’m not saying that this is the end-all-be-all, but I have a place here so I can accommodate my family,” the R&B star added in a lengthy interview with the Hollywood Reporter at the beginning of 2023.

And while he’s managed to keep all the deets about his Las Vegas house under wraps, the Confessions singer did let it slip that he lives in a sprawling apartment or penthouse in one of the city’s luxury residential buildings — calling it his “really cool mansion in the sky”.

We kind of live in this really cool mansion in the sky down here, so it’s pretty fun to be in the middle of all the action and then come right home and you’re with your kids.”

The artist wrapped up his Las Vegas show in early December 2023, in an emotional show that saw the 45-year-old overcome with gratitude and tears.

Usher went on to become one of the most influential figures in contemporary R&B and pop music. But despite his impressive net worth of $180 million, the Yeah singer kept it fairly down to earth with his home purchases.

#1 A three-bedroom house he sold for $775k

He owned a three-bedroom, three-bath house not far from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, that he bought in June 2007 for $970,000.

Right before filing for divorce from his second wife, Grace Miguel, he listed the 2,908-square-foot home for sale, with a buyer paying him $775,000 for the Atlanta house in 2019.

#2 The Alpharetta house he fell in love with at age 13

Early in his career, Usher (whose full name is Usher Raymond IV) stayed true to a promise he made to his younger self: when he’d make it big in the music industry, he’d buy his music producer L.A. Reid’s house, which left an impression on him at the tender age of 13.

I came into this house … and I remember walking through it, just being mesmerized by everything I saw, and it was like, ‘One day, I want to own a house like this.’”

An 8,000-square-foot home with 7 bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, a climate-controlled treehouse, a yoga studio and a private dance studio, L.A. Reid’s house is impressive — but pales in comparison to some of suburban Atlanta’s megamansions.

Luckily, he didn’t see Evander Holyfield’s former home in the nearby Atlanta suburb of Fayetteville, a 109-room behemont which later became rapper Rick Ross’s mansion.

“I ended up buying this house. There’s history in it. My history lies in this house.”

But despite the history, the U Remind Me hitmaker (who’s not one to hoard properties, it would seem), sold the Alpharetta house formerly owned by L.A. Reid for $1.5 million back in 2018.

His former villa in Los Angeles

Usher also owned a Spanish-style estate in West Hollywood set on the same block as the landmark Chateau Marmont Hotel.

The property, which he first listed for sale in early 2018 for $4.2 million (it ended up selling for only $3.3 million), was originally built in 1926 and has been “artfully restored” to accommodate the artist and his growing family, retaining original details like stenciled beams and handcrafted ironwork.

But the artist sold that 5-bedroom house too in 2018, one of three homes he offloaded in the span of a single year.

Now, with his Las Vegas residency over and his net worth balooned by his Sin City shows plus his Super Bowl performance, Usher might be in the lookout for a new place to call home. Looking forward to seeing where he settles next.

Ye has had it with Malibu.

The rapper, who’s been spending most of his time in Europe as of late, with paparazzi following him and wife Bianca Censori relentlessly while on tour, has just listed his uber-expensive Malibu pad for sale.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Tadao Ando, the Malibu Road house is one of the lauded Japanese architect’s few projects on American soil — another one being Beyonce and Jay-Z’s $200 million house, also located in Malibu.

When Kanye purchased it, the property was being touted as part beachfront residence, part modernist sculpture, making it a great choice for the artist whose minimalist-yet-daring style choices often grace the front covers of magazines.

But not much is left, as the structure has been altered considerably during Kanye’s ownership.

The Vultures rapper bought the roughly 4,000-square-foot beachfront house just two years ago, in 2021, for a whopping $57.3 million — though it’s worth noting that the property was once listed for $75 million.

Retired Wall Street financier Richard Sachs, best known as the ex-boyfriend of former Full House star Ashley Olson, sold it to the recording artist and Yeezy founder.

Now, Kanye West listed the 4-bedroom, 5-bath Malibu abode for $53,000,000, with Selling Sunset star and Oppenheim Group founder Jason Oppenheim landing the listing.

“I wanted to have a listing with such architectural pedigree,” Oppenheim told PEOPLE, adding that the property’s Malibu Road location is “one of the most desirable areas in the world.”

We don’t know whether that means that the rapper’s house will be featured in the upcoming Season 8 of Selling Sunset, but if you’d like to take a look inside Kanye West’s house in Malibu, Jason already put the pictures up on his Instagram (though it looks like he used the listing photos from the home’s last run on the market):

Ye’s crumbled plans for the property

The Malibu house was no impulse buy.

Kanye West had big plans for his beachfront spread.

First, he said he would work with businessman James Goldstein to make it more like his famous Sheats-Goldstein Residence — another concrete-heavy, modernist abode that bears the signature of lauded architect John Lautner.

Then, according to TMZ, he set out to turn the architectural property into a “bomb shelter from the 1910s,” removing all windows and electricity from the home. Here’s how it looks like now:

In fact, the rapper is even being sued by the former property caretaker and project manager he hired for the remodel.

Tony Saxon, who was reportedly hired in September 2021 as project manager, caretaker, and 24/7 security for the mogul’s Malibu home, is suing West, claiming he’s owed $1 million for the work he did on the property, which included several labor code violations.

“Tony worked as the construction project manager and 24/7 security guard when Kanye was having the home gutted, and Kanye put him through hell, violating numerous labor codes and employment laws in the process,” Saxon’s lawyer, president of West Coast Employment Lawyers Neama Rahmani, said in a statement released after news broke about Kanye selling his house.

“This house was ‘a Picasso on the water’ before Kanye ordered Tony to rip it apart. So, while we’re pleased Kanye may finally have the money to fulfill his obligations to Mr. Saxon, buyer beware.”

Now, what’s left of the Tadao Ando-designed home is a concrete shell exposed to the elements, per Robb Report.

How can Kanye’s house command such a high price in its current state?

If you’re wondering why anyone would consider paying over $50 million for a gutted house, or whether Kanye was completely off-base when setting the price, let us provide some context on how the property was priced.

#1 Location, location, location

We know all too well that location is the name of the game in real estate.

With enough funds, there’s almost nothing you can’t change about a house, except for location and lot size (and even the latter is debatable, as you can always purchase additional lots by convincing neighbors to sell).

But the location is the one fixed component that can command sky-high prices regardless of the state the structure is in.

And Kanye’s house is located on Malibu Road which is, like Jason Oppenheim said, “one of the most desirable areas in the world.”

The entire area is lined with million-dollar houses, often priced well above the $10 million mark. And Malibu in itself is prohibitively expensive, with the median listing price for homes in the area standing at a hefty $6.5 million.

#2 Architectural pedigree

Many million-dollar homes often come with name-bragging rights — and Kanye’s house excels here.

But there’s a whole other level of name-dropping that comes with owning a home envisioned by one of our generation’s leading architects.

Tadao Ando is an award-winning contemporary architect best known for his minimalist concrete structures, which have attracted some of the world’s biggest stars, from Beyonce and Jay-Z — who paid $200 million to buy one of Ando’s Malibu projects, setting a new record for the most expensive home ever bought in Califonia — to West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, who’s currently working with the architect to build a home on an undeveloped plot of land in La Quinta, California.

And Malibu’s architecturally distinct properties often command sky-high listing prices.

For proof, look no further than this $59M Ed Niles-designed house that combines glass, steel and Feng Shui principles or architect Harry Gesner’s former personal home, the $22.5M Sandcastle House in Malibu.

#3 Building costs

Beyond the design element, building the property on the beachfront lot was no easy feat.

Construction required 1,200 tons of concrete, 200 tons of steel reinforcement, and 12 pylons to keep it from sinking into the sand, a feat that undoubtedly required millions of dollars.

#4 Beach access & ocean views

The property has direct access to the beach and offers stunning views of the ocean.

It has three levels with the ensuite guest rooms on the lowest floor, the living room and kitchen on the middle floor, and the master bedroom and rooftop terrace on the topmost floor — all opening up to unobstructed ocean views, a luxury that commands a premium in any market.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Kanye’s listing price is realistic or not, and if his star power coupled with the highly desirable location and the house’s architectural pedigree will attract a buyer willing to pay top dollar for the Malibu pad.

Those of us who are hooked on Selling Sunset already know that Jason Oppenheim isn’t a fan of properties priced over the $50 million mark, so it’s unlikely that he would have taken on the listing if he thought the price was unrealistic.

LA-based DJ, avid snowboarder, and TV personality Tyler Marenyi — better known by his stage name, DJ NGHTMRE — is branching out.

Turns out that the Raleigh, North Carolina native, who released his album, Drmvrse last year and is currently busy touring the country as part of his The Great Sonic Wars Tour, also dabbles in real estate.

He just listed a newly built home in Culver City, California, one that comes with a main residence and not one, but two ADUs (accessory dwelling units) — which can be rented out and generate income for the future owners — as well as a lovely zen garden.

Since the property has just been completed and is listed as a new construction, it’s safe to assume it was never meant to serve as DJ NGHTMRE’s house.

Rather, it seems like Tyler Marenyi is diversifying his income streams, and investing the money he makes from headlining music festivals around the world into real estate — and making a profit in the process.

Listed for just over $3 million with Gina Michelle, Margaret Sievers, and George Ouzounian of The Agency, the property has a total of 7 bedrooms and 6 baths (totaling 3,417 sq. ft.) spread across the three structures on the lot.

The main house, a bright, light-filled single-story structure stands out with its clean lines and modern design.

With three bedrooms and two baths, it features high vaulted ceilings and custom light fixtures, creating a spacious and inviting ambiance.

While their Oklahoma ranch played a significant part in their love story, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton live in Encino, Los Angeles, where they own a 13,000-square-foot home in the hills.

The mansion, which was purchased in 2020 for $13.2 million, is the first home Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton officially bought together — and now serves as their primary residence.

Located in a secluded hillside, the 13,000-square-foot home has three stories, multiple spacious bedrooms, and a four-car garage, offering plenty of space for the couple and the kids — Gwen has three children from her marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale.
