If you too have kicked off the year by watching what’s arguably the most disturbing “eat-the-rich” movie we’ve seen in a long time, director Emerald Fennell’s unsettling Saltburn, you’re bound to have plenty of questions left unanswered.
The movie, starring a cast of talented actors like Barry Keoghan (familiar to moviegoers due to standout performances in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Batman, and Dunkirk), Jacob Elrodi (Priscilla, The Kissing Booth), and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, I Care A Lot) is chockful of disturbing scenes that are even more unsettling due to the talented actors’ stellar acting.
And while we can’t answer many of the questions fans are left with at the end of this hilariously bizarre and wildly disturbing movie, there’s one aspect that we CAN help clarify: is Saltburn a real house? And if so, where can we find it? To top it off, would Oliver’s efforts be worth it? How much is Saltburn worth?
The real Saltburn house & where to find it
Saltburn, the country estate of the Cattons — an aristocratic British family with widespread connections to British high society — stands at the core of Emerald Fennell’s story, taking a life of its own and becoming a central character in the movie (if the title wasn’t a big enough giveaway).
We won’t go into too many details about what happens at Saltburn (or what happens to Saltburn, for that matter), and instead, we’ll focus on the property itself, which is just as grand in real life as its on-screen counterpart.
The Drayton House, a Grade I listed country house in Northamptonshire, England plays the part of Saltburn, the wealthy Catton family’s country estate.
Dating back to the early 13th century, the massive estate has a total of 127 rooms and has been owned by the Stopford Sackville family since the 1770s.
The historic Drayton House
Once described as “Northamptonshire’s most impressive medieval mansion” by German-British art and architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner, the Drayton House is one of the area’s most famous homes.
Which makes it all the more surprising that its owners asked the Saltburn production crew not to disclose the name of the house when promoting the movie. But the cat was quickly let out of the bag, with all British publications quickly spotting the historic property set roughly one mile southwest of the village of Lowick in Northamptonshire.
Over the years, the sprawling estate — which sits in a park of about 200 acres known as Drayton Park — was home to many influential British families, including the Draytons, the Staffords, the Mordaunts, the Germains, all the way to current owners, the Sackvilles, one of which was the 6th Earl of Dorset.
Despite that, the Drayton House has never before appeared on-screen, which was a requirement director Emerald Fennell was adamant about when sourcing the main filming location for Saltburn.
“It needed to be something that hadn’t been used before,” Fennell told House & Garden. “That hadn’t been photographed even, let alone put on film. We always wanted the exact sense that it is a real place.”
And the Drayton House checked all the boxes.
Are Oliver’s efforts worthwhile? How much could Saltburn be worth?
Since we don’t want to spoil the movie for those who haven’t yet had a chance to watch it through, we won’t comment on the fate of the Saltburn house.
But we want to provide context as to how much the stately country house would be worth — and whether the lengths Barry Keoghan’s character, Oliver, goes through to inherit the Catton family’s ancestral home are worth it.
So we turned to Reddit, where the movie started a series of heated discussions on the topic, with people commenting on both the Catton family’s ritzy lifestyle and the value of their estate:
I think the house alone would be worth at least £100m if not more. It’s kind of funny to me that places like Drayton House are still referred to as a country home, whereas really from the size and level of grandeur of this one specifically, it almost feels like it should be classed on the same level as a castle or a palace!
As for their lifestyle – I would imagine that at this level we are talking about the kind of wealth that unless you’re born into it, marry into it, or are Bill Gates or Taylor Swift, is completely unattainable. Probably more than most members of the British royal family?”
u/usernamegodmntaken
Very very rich, all generational. They would own massive amounts of land that they can live on forever. Aristocratic wealth dates back 100s of years in the U.K. so I imagine they have hundreds of millions if not more.”
u/TheLizardKing
But there were also quite a few people who didn’t think Oliver’s efforts would be worth it, particularly due to how difficult a sprawling estate like Saltburn would be to maintain:
Controversial opinion: I don’t think Oliver’s obsession with Saltburn makes much sense.
Of course his first obsession was with Felix and once he got rejected he turned his attention to stealing the family fortune and essentially trying to become Felix but as a middle class man myself I don’t understand his obsession with Saltburn. Most people know it’s a pain in the ass to own a stately home most people maintain them out of family tradition, it costs a fortune and to offset this cost you often have to open it to the public for visitation. Most middle class people would accept the money from Richard E Grant and live the rest of their life very comfortably.”
u/TripleDouble_45 source
In my view he wasn’t obsessed with Saltburn, but rather with taking it as revenge. He wanted desperately to join Felix’s set and belong, and when he was rejected, he set out to destroy the family, with Saltburn as the trophy.”
u/Mickleborough
My theory is that the house is a living entity and the house chose Oliver. It pulls him in more and more. The Felix doppelgänger is proof that otherworldly things are at play. Perhaps the house knows its current occupants aren’t deserving. They’re complacent and entitled. Maybe the house wants someone who will work for it. Oliver works. Maybe the house demands sacrifices. Oliver kills.”

Do you ever feel like you’re just living your life between your home and the office? Does it get crowded feeling like home is completely your responsibility, and the office is only for work? If so, you might need to find what is often referred to as a “third place.” A third place is somewhere that allows for freedom of expression and exploration without the constraints of either your home or work environment. In this post, we’re discussing the top 15 ways in which you can discover how to create long-lasting moments in this particular spot.
1. High-School Gym
One user shared, “My high-school gym was like a third place. I originally went there because I had nowhere to go for lunch and a break. Didn’t want to become a target for bullying by looking lonely. Made some friends in the gym and got pretty strong in the process. After school, I joined a gym, which was the opposite experience. There’s no sense of community. Awkwardness and silent judgment fill the air. It’s more like the atmosphere of waiting at a bus stop.”
Another user responded, “I don’t really know if the gym counts as a third place anymore. Everyone’s on their air pods and not wanting to bother others or talk.”
2. City-Organized Adult Sports
Community sports are a good option, if there’s a thriving community already in place in your area. Sure, it’ll take some work at first. It might take time for your fitness level to reach the average on the sports team or group you join, and it almost always takes a while to really hit it off with new friends. But once you’re invested, the payoff can be really worthwhile. Imagine if you could count on meeting friends at least once a week, maybe more, to have a good workout, good conversation, and maybe even hang out afterwards?
Another user shared, “Depends a bit on the size of town/city you live in. In my city, there’s a group of runners that do like a Saturday morning group/ open to anyone running. Everyone is pretty friendly. Folks gather and chat for 30 minutes before the run.
“We also have adult sports throughout the city, so stuff like softball, soccer, and basketball, where they’ll paste together a team from singles or place you on a team that’s one person short. I also once took a class at REI in bike maintenance and met a couple of nice folks. REI also organizes events that I think probably draw in folks looking for an interaction (day hikes, trail runs, kayak trips).”
3. Library
Admittedly, libraries are probably not top-of-mind for most of us. But all the same, libraries have a lot more classes than just toddler story time. There’s often classes for things like poetry, story-writing, computer programming, art, and more. And while your skill might eventually outgrow the free library class, you could come away with a new hobby and new friends!
One user shared, “Hit the library friend. There’s all sorts of programming, and it’s free!”
4. Something We Have to Create
One observation of third places is that sometimes, we just have to create them. But honestly, it could be anywhere. Maybe you like hiking at a local park, or there’s a quiet coffee shop near your home. Maybe you have the space to create a special nook in your home with a bookshelf and twinkle lights, or the ability to build a shed in the backyard you can develop into your own special space. Maybe it’s as simple as sitting in your car for half an hour after you get home and playing some quiet music while you read a book for a few minutes.
“I’m glad finally someone brought it up. It’s something we have to create, and it could be anywhere. I sometimes chill in my car with the radio playing softly. Normally I am alone, but once I had a friend join me, surprisingly they said it was enjoyable,” one commenter chimed in.
5. Bars
Once upon a time, a local bar or pub made for a great third space. In some places they still do, but you may need to do some hunting. Look for a coffee shop that’s open late and maybe serves wine and bear. Maybe there’s a small diner with options affordable enough that you can become a regular. Whatever it is, a bar, coffee shop or restaurant can make an excellent third space.
One user commented, “That’s what bars used to be for.”
Another Redditor replied, “Too expensive nowadays …”
6. Suburban Strip Malls
One online Redditor commented, “I’m 24, and I’m in the same boat. I live at home in the suburbs, so I typically go to suburban strip malls or the gym, but I also don’t have much to do otherwise (other than work and occasional chores).”
7. Paddleboard
“Do you have any state parks or trails nearby? Arboretum? Rock climbing gym? What about exploring an apparatus like the Lyra or silks? Jogging outdoors?
“Do you have any lakes nearby? Paddleboarding can be an excellent meditative core workout.”, one user suggested.
8. A Tree Fort
One Redditor posted, “Build a tree fort near your house.”
Honestly, tree houses would probably still appeal to a lot of us. But even if not, why not build one for your kids? They’d probably love it, and you can instill in them the ability to curate their own special area.
9. Meetup Dot Com
“meetup dot com … Search for your interests. Rock climbing, CrossFit, doggie playdates, adult sports leagues through the park district, fibre arts, ultimate, pottery, etc.,” one user suggested.
The OP replied, “I’ve tried that, but it always seems geared towards an older demographic.”
10. A Local Recreation Center
If everyone in gyms is getting to focused on getting through their own workout without talking to anyone, try a community center. They’re usually already full of people who are looking for friendships and teammates!
One Redditor posted, “Try your local recreation center. They have classes, sports event sign-ups, sometimes pools depending on area, other resources and group gatherings.”
11. Athletic Courts
One user said, “If you’re specifically looking for fitness and activity, I would check out nearby athletic courts or social media for exercise groups.”
12. Discord Servers
“It sounds like what you need to do is meet other people as opposed to finding a new space. Are there any local Discord servers for your area for young adults? I found this very helpful for meeting more people and keeping in touch,” one Redditor stated.
13. A Community Center
Another commenter asked, “Do you have a community center? Like a YMCA or a community fieldhouse? My local ones usually have adult sports/activities going on, like basketball training, judo, etc. You can also pay to go for the day and just do whatever you want, like at the fieldhouse, people are using the different fields for basketball, soccer, football, baseball, etc.”
14. Disc Golf Place
One Redditor posted, “Disc Golf! Easier than golf, cheaper than golf, more laid back than golf. If you enjoy IPAs, jam band music, weed and dogs, then that’s a bonus.”
Another user added, “Disk golf seems a pretty social outdoor activity. Adult league sports teams. Kickball, softball, things like that. You can get a part-time serving job, decent extra money and servers like to get together after work. Maybe a local game shop has picked up games for D&D or some other tabletop game. There are local meetup apps and groups on social media.”
15. A Dance Studio
“I take weekly classes at a dance studio with all the same students for a full school year. There’s a large adult dance class offered at this studio. Many other places might not have as many options, but it’s nice to get to know the same people over the course of several months,” commented one user.

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
We’re all aware that there are vast differences in what’s considered normal around the world, and most of us have even noticed that there are differences in normal between families, small towns, different schools, etc. But have you ever found yourself in the midst of your own country or even your family and wondered How is that just normal? Well, we’re with you. Whether it’s something as seemingly inconsequential as a particular gesture, or more dramatic such as customs surrounding celebrations, it’s pretty common to feel like the odd one out a some point. So stick with us; we’re examining some of the things people find normal that we just can’t get used to.
1. Spitting Loogies
One user shared, “Spitting, especially loogies. I literally almost throw up when I see someone doing it.”
Ok, we’re with you on that one. We know everybody has their own preferences and we’re not here to stop you, but spitting really just baffles us.
2. Holding a Bag of Dog Waste
One Redditor user said, “On colder days when my dad walks the dog, he’ll sometimes hold the dog [waste] bag in his hands to warm his hands.”
Another user commented, “This is deeply disturbing.”
Fortunately, it seems only that commenter’s dad thinks this is normal. Frankly, we’ve never heard of anyone else doing this and we don’t plan to make it any more widespread than it already is. That’s just uncomfortable and gross.
3. Writing With Chalk
“Perhaps not gross, but I am repulsed by holding chalk and writing on a chalkboard. The touch, the feel, the sound, everything,” posted by one Redditor.
Another user shared, “We just got new dishes a couple of months back and the bottom is the raw clay feeling. That terrible gritty sandpaper-like texture. I can hardly use the plates without shivering and getting weirded out.”
There are a lot of odd textures out there, and while they don’t bother a lot of people, when they do bother you it’s almost impossible to forget about.
4. Parents Monetizing Kids on YouTube
One user pointed out, “People monetizing their kids on YouTube.”
Another user replied, “This should be a top comment.”
To be fair, that’s definitely a gray area. But we definitely feel a lot of sympathy for those kids, having to grow up in the spotlight, and sometimes in really vulnerable and uncomfortable ways. We’ll say this much for sure: people’s kids should never have to be publicly uncomfortable just to help their parents make a buck. Providing for the family is the job of an adult, and kids aren’t responsible to help with expenses by performing.
5 When Someone Else Washes My Dishes
One user stated, “When someone else ‘washes’ my dishes for me and I drink from a ‘clean’ glass, and it smells of rotting food and I look at my sponge and it’s covered in food because someone thought that smearing food around my dishes with a sponge somehow made them clean you’re all fired I never want to see you again.”
Sanitation is no joke when you’re washing the dishes. Sponges are great, but you’ve got to keep them clean in order to really clean the dishes you’re washing. And if you’re washing dishes in somebody else’s home to show them you care, go the extra mile and make sure you wash the dishes they way that they like them washed.
6. Wearing Big Engagement Rings Without Cleaning Them
“Wearing those big-a- engagement rings and never properly cleaning them. Especially in a hospital, nobody should be wearing anything below the elbow for good hand hygiene. I can’t imagine how many germs live between all those diamonds that are now spreading to my patients. Just take it all off, leave them at home!” one online user stated.
Another user confirmed and replied, “Omg, so many patients just leave their rings on for years, and then the stones are filled with lotion, dead skin, and grease.”
Besides the important sanitary concerns, did you know your ring will sparkle so much more if you clean it regularly? Most jewelers will offer free cleanings for any rings or jewelry you’ve purchased through them, and otherwise the price is very low, often as cheap as five dollars to get your whole ring polished and looking good as new again.
7 the Sound of Chewing
One user posted, “The sound of people chewing,”
Another user responded, “Ugh, eating with mouth open …”
Honestly, that’s just good manners. There’s definitely an etiquette to chewing. If you’re alone in the privacy of your own home, then be considerate of anyone else around you while you’re eating.
8. Children With Snotty Faces
“Children with food on their face. And snot,” one user shared.
Another user stated, “As a parent, we find it gross too. We’re just tired of cleaning it 900 times a day.”
9. When Clothes Smell Musty
One Redditor posted, “Maybe not ‘normal’ but I am repulsed by the smell created by clothing not correctly drying. The scent is on clothing that sat in the washer machine too long. Or dish towels and bathroom towels that dried without being spread out. I smell it on people from down the aisle in stores. And don’t get me started on drying my hands in someone’s bathroom and finding out the smell is lingering on my hands now.”
Granted, some people have this harder for others. For example, the southwest United States is much less humid than other parts of the country, and that makes drying clothes and towels much faster and easier. In other locations, it’s more challenging to get clothes and linens completely dry and it takes some effort not to smell musty.
10. Constantly Spitting
One user said, “Spitting. I feel physically ill when I witness someone hawking and spitting in public or see spit sitting on the pavement.”
Another user added, “My friend is always doing this. I’m less disgusted than I am confused. I’ve never felt the need to spit spontaneously, lol.”
While we’re here, could somebody tell us why they spit all the time? Is there a good reason for this? From the outside it seems like a pretty unnecessary habit, so please enlighten us.
11. Licking Fingers to Turn a Page
“Licking their fingers to turn a page. Turns my stomach!” one Redditor shared.
Another user added, “Or counting money. F- filthy.”
Ok, fair enough.. If you need to lick your fingers for any reason, please wash your hands afterwards. Keep the germs from spreading and be considerate of others.
12. Not Washing Hands Before a Meal
One Commenter mentioned, “Not washing hands before a meal. You have been in filth, and you are going to touch your food with those hands? Yuk.”
Another replied, “Also, not washing your hands when cooking food. I can’t understand how people just start cooking food for other people without doing it.”
13. Not Rinsing the Soap Suds off Dishes
One user added, “Washing dishes in a tub of soapy water and not rinsing off the soap suds. Or not scrubbing the outsides of pots and pans as well. Makes me want to vomit. I’d rather not taste stale soap and bacteria in my cup of tea or food, thanks. I can always tell as well.“
Soap always leaves a residue, and yea, most of us can taste it. It’s such a strong flavor and it adds an unpleasant taste to anything you eat or drink from that dish. It seems Washing dishes is more of an art than maybe we first thought.
14. Coughing Without Covering
“Spitting, coughing without covering your mouth. I have multiple sclerosis. Get sick really easily,” one user added.
Another user agreed, “I work in a hospital. I still wear a mask the entire work day. I’ve been asked “why” over & over, told that I don’t have to do that anymore, so-called a sheep, & various other comments. My job is directly in patient’s bubbles. The mask does prevent being a direct hit from bodily fluids, helps with the unpleasant outdoors, & hides my facial expressions from exposure to those things.”
Ok, that’s a pretty fair assessment. If you’re working with people’s bodies and fluids, it only makes sense to be as protected as you can.
15. Not Washing Your Hands After Going to the Bathroom
A user commented, “Not washing your hands after going to the bathroom. Nasty.”
Another user shared, “I would hope everyone finds this nasty …”
What can we say; there’s a reason stores and restaurants have signs reminding employees to wash their hands. It’s both less common than we could wish, and much more gross than some people seem to think.
16. Employers Paying New Hires More Than Current Employees
One user stated, “Employers paying new hires more than tenured employees. Having drastically different pay rates for people with similar credentials doing the same job.”
Another user added, “Not entirely the same, but my first job was at a McDonald’s. I was making, I think, like, 5.45 an hour? One of my friends at the time got hired on at 6/hr. I approached the manager about it, and he said, ‘It was a mistake, but I can’t increase your pay or decrease theirs. Also, who told you about it?’ He made clear in his tone he intended to punish the person that told me, and I didn’t say s-.”
17 Wearing Sneakers Without Socks
“Wearing sneakers without socks. Ugh! The sweat stinks,” one user shared.
Another user replied, “Agreed. But Most of the time you see that; they’re probably just wearing no-shows.”
We agree with both commenters; most of the time people are wearing no-show socks. And if they’re not wearing socks at all, that’s about to smell terrible. Even shoes you’ve only worn with socks tend to smell terrible after a while. But if you really have make that fashion choice, rest assured there are plenty of stinky-shoe remedies online to rescue you.
18. Childbirth
One Redditor stated, “Childbirth. We’re all here because of it, and it’s currently my day job to catch a baby or two per day, but [holy cow] is it like watching a woman’s [body] go through Vietnam each time.”
One user added, “Time for a game of ‘child-snatcher or midwife?’”
It’s true that watching childbirth can be an uncomfortable process, but birth is truly a normal part of life. Like the commenter said, without birth none of us would be here, so we have our mothers to thank for going through all that struggle for us.
19. Kissing Pets on the Mouth
“Kissing pets in their mouth,” shared one user.
Another user posted, “What everyone’s dad didn’t say, ‘I just saw that dog eating s- outside,’ every time this happens … “
No offense to the pet parents out there, but there’s definitely a lot of germs not only in cats’ and dogs’ mouths, but in human mouths. And transferring that many germs between humans and animals has never been a great idea. We get that it’s normal and a lot of people connect with their pets and show affection that way, but maybe consider some other manner of pet cuddling than kissing them.
20. Smacking Gum
Another commenter shared, “Smacking gum. I hate it. And loud chewing/swallowing noises.”
Chewing gum seems to be one of those things people either love or hate; there’s no middle ground. But we totally understand how it can be annoying for those who are highly sensitive, especially to noise.

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
Honestly, movie comebacks are usually the best comebacks. That might be because they’ve had a team of writers carefully writing and rewriting them for hours before they’re filmed, but we’re ignoring that small fact for now. Because there’s no greater feeling than following a genuine question or situation with a great movie quote. We all do it without even realizing: those droll lines uttered during heartfelt rom-coms, stirring speeches shouted valiantly in action flicks, and righteous outbursts full of conviction can find their way into our daily banter surprisingly regularly (and it’s so much fun when they do.) Below are some of the movie lines that you can use in real life.
1. “That’s a Bold Strategy, Cotton; Let’s See if It Pays off for ‘Em.”
One user shared, “‘That’s a bold strategy, cotton, let’s see if it pays off for ’em.’ from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. The movie revolves around a group of misfits who enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament to save their cherished local gym from the onslaught of a corporate health fitness chain.
2. “Face It, Girls. I’m Older, and I Have More Insurance.”
Another user said, “‘Face it, girls, I’m older and have more insurance.’” The line is spoken by Evelyn Couch (played by Kathy Bates) in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes.
One user replied, “TOWANDA!!!!!”
3. “You Keep Using That Word; I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means.”
The movie The Princess Bride is packed with quotable moments, but Inigo Montoya has probably been turned into a meme the most often. Here he is with a line we’ve probably all quoted at some time.
“‘You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means.’ And many, many more from The Princess Bride,” one Redditor posted.
Another user replied, “Very nice! So many good quotes from that movie can be pulled out as a funny response.”
4. “Have Fun Storming the Castle!”
Scarcely a single conversation in The Princess Bride goes by without delivering some delightful one-liner, but the whole exchange with Miracle Max is a funny one from start to finish.
Another user stated, “Have fun storming the castle!’—Whenever someone departs for something.”
One commenter quoted back, “‘Think it’ll work?’”
5. “How Do I Get Out of This Chickens- Outfit?”
“After watching Aliens about a thousand times, every time someone asks if there are any questions, it takes all of my willpower not to ask ‘How do I get out of this chickens- outfit?’” one Redditor posted.
Another user shared, “‘Something, something nuke it from orbit…’ Gets used a lot in the shop, in the field, pretty much anywhere but with the customers, I’m not familiar with.”
6 “How Many Combat Drops?”
One user posted, “‘How many COMBAT drops?’ from … Aliens. Every time there’s a new manager/team lead, etc.”
Another user replied, “That’s a good one. I have wanted to use it before, too, but I always manage to bite my tongue!”
7. “That’s Just, Like, Your Opinion, Man.”
Is there any better (or worse) way to diffuse a tense disagreement than by drawling, “That’s just like, your opinion, man”? Depending on the sense of humor of those around you, it could be either hilarious or infuriating, but either way it’s likely to be worth it.
One user shared a line from The Big Lebowski movie and posted, “‘That’s just like, your opinion, man.’”
One user replied, “‘This aggression will not stand.’”
8. “Alrighty Then”
In a movie peppered with strange and ridiculous situations, one of the most valuable takeaways is a quote you can use in precisely those situations. This quote can be sprinkled like salt in any type of awkward situation, or when conversation is awkwardly grinding to a halt. Alrighty then!
“I don’t know about all the time, but I have been known to drop an ‘Alrighty then.’ when someone spouts something that is both TMI and rather absurd,” posted one user.
9 “Let’s Make Like a Tree and Get the F- Out of Here.”
Some movies are just a trip from start to finish, and The Boondock Saints is one of those. It’s good for a gory watch about vigilante justice from time to time, and also the occasional quote.
One user stated from the Boondock Saints movie, “I like to say ‘ … make like a tree and get the f- out of here.’ I don’t remember what movie/show I heard it on, but I know I didn’t make it up.”
10. “You’re Killing Me, Smalls.”
One Redditor quoted the movie The Sandlot and commented, “You’re killing me, Smalls.”
The Sandlot is a story of a group of young baseball players during the summer of 1962. Like any movie with hope, grit and determination, there’s also plenty of situations rife with disappointment. The result is quotes that you can use in any sort of situation involving failure to lighten the mood by tossing out a movie quote.
Another user shared, “YESSS BRRROOOO. YESSSSS THIS IS MEE!!!”
11. “Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates; You Never Know What You’re Gonna Get.”
In Forest Gump, Forest is a very straight-forward character. In a lot of complicated and nuanced situations, he still calls things as he sees them, and it leads to a lot of situational comedy. As a result, the movie is peppered with great quotes that apply (or misapply) to dozens of situations.
“I often use the quote ‘Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get,’ from Forrest Gump,” one user added to the thread.
One user added, “‘Stupid is as stupid does!’”
12. “Winter Is Coming…”
Lots of great movie quote references are rather depending on the circumstances lining up, but the perfect time for this one comes around seasonally. Honestly, that’s rather convenient.
One user shared the most favorite and famous quotes from The Game of Thrones and posted, “‘Winter is coming … ‘ I say this a lot around October.”
Another user replied, “‘You know nothing, John Snow.’”
The OP jokingly replied, “Perfect, lol.”
13. “Groovy.”
Turns out this one pops up in multiple movies; which honestly could play to your favor. Besides, it’s universal enough regardless of which movie you were intending to quote, your chances of having the quote recognized are just about doubled.
One commenter stated, “‘Groovy.’ (The Evil Dead Trilogy).”
The OP responded, “Oh hahaha, I thought that was from Austin Powers. …”
14. “Hasta la Vista, Baby.”
Turns out The Terminator is good for more than just a favorite movie night in; you can take sprinkle those convenient little quotes throughout your conversation.
Another user stated, “Hasta la vista, baby.”
One added, “Love it.”
15. “May the Force Be With You.”
Need a way to say goodbye and good luck all together? We’ve got you—try this quote from Star Wars. Better yet, it’s versatile. You can use it sincerely (and a little humorously) to wish somebody good luck, or you can use it with some snark if you don’t really approve of what they’re about to attempt.
“‘May the Force be with you.” – Star Wars. I use this quote when wishing someone good luck.” shared one Star Wars fan.
Another user replied, “That’s nice of you; I’m sure they love that!”

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
We all disagree with people. The key to living peacefully and keeping a close community around you is knowing how to have empathy, listen well, and disagree respectfully. And with most divisive topics, there’s a way to find some empathy or understanding. But from time to time, we all encounter some viewpoint or dogma we just don’t understand and can’t find any sympathy with. Below, we’ll explore 20 different stances from various areas of life that many people simply do not have any understanding or empathy for.
1. Being Smug About Not Understanding a Topic
One user shared, “I can’t deal with people who are smug about not understanding something.”
Another user replied, “I once was having a late BBQ with my neighbour; I watched a satellite go by with their 9-year-old daughter. At one point, the satellite just disappeared in the middle of the sky because it reached the earth’s shadow and couldn’t reflect the sun anymore.
“So the little girl asked me, ‘Did it die? Why did it disappear?’ I then proceeded to explain it to her, but she couldn’t really understand. So I said, ‘let me grab a piece of paper and do a little drawing to show you.’
“Her mom immediately intervened, angry. ‘NO, we’re having fun. We’re not here to learn!’ It’s still one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.”
2. Influencers Who Exploit Their Kids
“Social media influencers who exploit the f- out of their kids,” shared one user.
Another user responded, “That YouTube mom who made her kid pose to look sad while he was actually crying for real because his dog died. He kept saying, ‘No, Mom, I’m actually crying,’ and she said, ‘I know.’ She accidentally posted her video, forgetting to cut that part. Serves her right. She is garbage.
“EDIT: It looks like the dog did not die (thankfully.) BUT she is still garbage because the dog was very sick, and the child was clearly emotional over it, so she took advantage instead of giving him real comfort.”
3. Saying You’re Blunt Just So You Can Be Rude
One user posted, “Saying you’re blunt, but you’re actually just openly being an a-hole.”
Another user shared, “A server that we all hated once said, ‘They don’t want to deal with a bad b- like me.’ A fellow cook shouted through the window, ‘No, you’re just a b-. Stop making excuses.’”
4. YouTube “Prank” Channels
One user stated, “Youtube “prank” channels. The ones that bully McDonald’s employees for views.”
5. When People Won’t Consider Evidence
“When someone staunchly refuses to believe something even after you’ve provided them with copious amounts of evidence from numerous credible sources to prove what you’ve just told them,” one user commented. A user shared, “It is easier to fool a man than it is to convince a man he’s been fooled.”
6. Dogfighting
One Redditor commented, “Dog fighting.”
One user added, “I hate it when I’m enjoying my day and like 30 biplanes start an air battle above me.”
7. Well, This Is Who I Am
One user posted, “Well, this is who I am.” Excuses. You can change some aspects of yourself to be better.”
8. Mean People Getting Offended When Somebody Stands up to Them
“When people are mean, and you’re mean back and they don’t understand why,” one user posted.
Another user replied, “One of my exes got enjoyment from being mean to me because of how I’d react. When I finally reached my limit and snapped right back at him with home truths about what a [horrible person] he was to me and several others, he cried to a mutual friend that I was bullying him.”
9. Flat Earthers
One commenter added, “Flat earthers. Y’all just dumb.”
One user posted, “Especially those who complain about people thinking they’re dumb. But they ARE dumb.”
10. Being Smug About Disliking Something You’ve Never Tried
One user stated, “People who are smug of disliking something they’ve never tried and make it a personality trait.
“edit: I’m talking about mundane things to have such a strong stance and pride in not liking despite never trying. Like a TV show or camping. Obviously not murder, didn’t think I needed to spell that one out.”
11. People Misusing Big Words
“People who misuse big words. Does anyone else photosynthesize with me?” mentioned one user.
Another user replied, “Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.”
12. Being Intolerant of Other Cultures
One user stated, “There are only two things I can’t stand in this world: People who are intolerant of other people’s cultures and the Dutch.”
13. People Who Blame Victims
“People who blame victims for their own abuse. It’s abuse for a reason. It isn’t easy for someone who has been badly manipulated and hurt to leave that person. It isn’t always financially feasible for them to leave either.
“Yes, I do feel awful if kids are involved. I just hate seeing people be hurt and mistreated in any way. But I just want to clarify that I know this world is so cruel and judgmental. I also understand that some people say they want others to leave those people but don’t help them after that,” a user stated.
14. Saying “It’s Just the Way It Is”
One Redditor posted, “It’s just the way it is,” is a phrase that I hate. There is never an explanation nor a solution.”
15. Being Rude to Retail Workers
“Being rude to retail workers for little to no reason. Like bro, some of these people are making barely over minimum wage. What will your yelling and verbal attacks do to help you and them? Plus, anyone is much more likely to help a polite person than someone unreasonably screaming at them,” one user shared.
16. People Who Make Excuses for Not Taking Care of Their Children
A user shared, “People who make excuses for not caring for their children properly. I hand-washed my child’s clothes in the bathtub and walked my a- to work when I was a single, poor mother. Not to mention the resources available nowadays that also help. There really is just no excuse.”
17. People Spending Their Life Savings on Social Media Celebrities
One Redditor shared, “People trying to give their life savings to big streamers/YouTubers … etc.
“They’re literally donating their life savings to multimillionaires just to get an ‘oh thanks’ and then be forgotten about a minute later.”
18. The Idea That Some Full-Time Jobs Don’t Deserve a Living Wage
One Commenter added to the thread, “That some full-time jobs don’t deserve a living wage.”
19. People That Don’t Believe in Free School Lunches
“People that don’t believe in free school lunches. There is no good person that thinks kids should go hungry,” one Redditor posted.
20. Pick Yourself up by Your Bootstraps
One Redditor stated, “People that just wait to say, ‘Pick yourself up from your bootstraps.’ Also, Rich people beg average paycheck-to-paycheck people to donate to their charity so they can pocket 80% in ‘administration fees.’

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
As college tuition costs continue to skyrocket, more and more people are questioning whether a higher education is still worth it. Many argue that there are plenty of lucrative job opportunities available without a college degree, while others point out that earning one can open up doors to even better positions and significantly widen your wealth base. As this debate rages on, the question remains: is getting a college degree still worth all the money in today’s economy? Below are some stories we’ve rounded up to help you make your decision with a broader perspective.
1. They Open Up Higher Paying Jobs
One user posted, “They open you up to higher paying jobs, though the jobs may not be in the field you were expecting.”
One user replied, “I certainly wouldn’t have my six-figure job without my degrees, but I recognize I might be the exception.”
Another user added, “Lol, no, you’re not. Very few jobs will net anywhere near $100k (area dependent, of course) without a college degree. Some electricians and plumbers I know with 20+ years of experience have gotten close by busting their a- and putting in 50-60 hour work weeks, but even then, not everyone with the same experience is taking in that much. I wouldn’t have a six-figure-paying job without a degree either.”
One user stated, “Connections >>>>> Experience >>> Degrees >>> Certifications.”
Another commenter added, “I think experience trumps connections. Connections can get you in the door for an entry-level job maybe.”
One Redditor replied, “1000%. There’s a guy I’ve heard of that barely graduated high school but hustled his [a-] off and now makes almost 200 Grand a year in IT with zero college. Also, he has the most beautiful eyes and the voice of an Angel. And he has a badass malamute. That guy’s name is Bruce. Long live Bruce.”
3. Shortage of Accountants
Even if you’re not aiming for a six figure income, there are plenty of jobs that simply require specialized schooling; and those jobs need to be done. Like accounting, for instance.
“We are having accountant shortage…so.”, exclaimed one user.
The OP replied, “Well, that’s what I’m majoring in.”
One user responded, “Keep going! It’s the best degree! Always jobs, never accept a job paying below $25/hr again.”
4. Economy Fluctuates; Education Lasts a Lifetime.
One user stated, “Before I had a college degree the most I could ever make was $47k in 2015. After graduating college in 2017, I made 51k for nine months and then 65k by 2018, less than a year after graduating college. I worked at the company for over three years and made $70k before I decided to get an MBA. I earned an MBA in 2023 and am now making 90k a year working pretty much entirely remotely.
“I have no solid connections in the USA, so education has been the only way I’ve been able to boost my salary steadily, and it gives me the confidence to demand more pay. And I feel like my work environment has improved as I improved my education. The economy might be bad at times, and good at times; it fluctuates. But the impact of an education lasts a lifetime.”
Another user replied, “How much debt? I’m not hating. I wasn’t in a position to get an education, so I took a different path.”
Another user commented, “There’s a lot of scholarships out there. I only have $20k of debt from undergrad that I chose not to pay off since interest for student loans is low.”
5. Affordable Education Is Worth It
One user raised a good point, saying that free education is always worthwhile. And while college may not ever be totally free, there are many ways of making it more affordable. Living with your parents and doing school online can save on costs, almost all colleges offer scholarships but so do organizations both related to your interests and hobbies, and probably in your locale, so look around. And for bonus points, if you’re able to be self-motivated, you can find lots of classes that you can study for independently and pass via exams such as CLEP and DSST. While they’re oriented towards active-duty soldiers trying to get an education during deployments, both programs are open to the public.
6. The Better Educated, the More You Earn
One user stated from a source, “Yes, by the following data. … Across degree types, it’s clear that, on average, the more education you get, the more you will earn. The biggest increase in salary happens if you complete a bachelor’s degree rather than an associate degree. In this case, you can expect to earn $15,500 more per year on average as a 25- to 34-year-old. If you look at the talk, a bachelor’s degree is worth, at the median, more than $20k a year than a high school diploma.”
7. Surviving Versus Thriving
One Redditor shared, “Yes and no. Do you want enough money to survive? You can do it without a degree. But in the long run, everyone says having a degree is very beneficial.
“Ironically, I dropped out of my university to work for said university, so I never got my degree. I have had no problems landing jobs and dropping out means I’m in a better financial situation now than my university graduate peers. But ten years later, when everyone wants to be a manager, I may be at a disadvantage of not having my degree (I might get lucky and use purely my experience). I do plan to get a university degree once I figure out what I really want to do.”
8. It Depends on Your Field and Your Goals
“The most annoying answer ever: it depends. I ended up with a humanities degree and worked a job that doesn’t typically require a degree, and if it does, it certainly isn’t mine. So I always feel like it’s kind of pointless (I don’t regret my degree one bit, though!) But I definitely have friends who graduated with me and have full-fledged careers now and have really started their adult lives because of their degrees.
“It depends not only on the degree but the person. My degree probably wouldn’t have gotten me far without more school/degrees, but I also didn’t choose to seek out any paths that involved using it. And people still comment on the fact that I have a degree, which implies I have specific skills and am somewhat trustworthy (I saw my degree through in less than four years, nonetheless). I don’t think a degree is ever pointless. But I also don’t think you need one to have a good life.”
9. College Is Good for Your Development
One user posted, “Money aside completely, college is good for your development and will open your eyes to the vast fruits of life, and even GEs and stuff will force you to learn silly little bits of information that may end up changing your life. If you can make the finances work (go to an in-state public university), I think it’s generally worth it for most people.”
10. Many Jobs Require a Degree; But They Don’t Care Which One
Another Redditor added, “There are tons of simple office jobs out there that just require you to have a bachelor’s degree that is roughly applicable. I have known people who got degrees that were just ‘for fun’ and then landed in jobs like this making 5-10 dollars more than minimum wage. Not bad.”
11. A Business Degree Is Widely Applicable
Another user shared, “I’d be very specific about the degree. For example, a business degree is pretty vague and, as a hiring manager, I’d want to see whether they are proficient with Excel and which specific classes they had. But if they had majored in accounting, they’d find a job fast. As for STEM—a major in biology is much harder to market than in engineering.
“If I were an incoming student, I’d start at the end and work back. What job do I want? What degree requirements are there? Which specific classes do I need? If at all possible, reach out to someone working in that field (maybe a friend’s parent, a neighbor, or your doctor or dentist – introduce yourself and ask if they could meet with you to discuss these things. I would be intimidated as a young person to do this, but it could save you tens of thousands of dollars and years of your life to do it.”
12. A Degree Doesn’t Guarantee a Job
“A college degree doesn’t guarantee a job. You still have to self-innovate and market yourself. This means things like your skills, networking, how aggressive you are with job hunting, etc., all contribute to a higher probability of getting hired. Also, if you do a job search for current office jobs, many employers still ask for a bachelor’s degree in terms of baseline qualifications. So you’re already at a disadvantage if you’re planning to work your way up the cubicle career ladder …,” one user posted.
13. It’s Not Necessary
While most people still consider college a no-brainer, it’s good to ask questions about whether it’s worth it, especially if you’re thinking of a post-graduate degree. Masters and doctorates are expensive, and you should be sure it’s worthwhile before you take on the financial responsibility for more education.
One user posted, “It’s not [worth it]. I have an MBA, and it only puts me in debt. No one cares about it.”
One user replied, “Should have done engineering.”
14. Pick a Proper Degree
One commenter said, “Pick a proper degree that leads to a paying career. If you are going to do art history, gender studies, then no.”
15. A Degree and Then Some: It’s Harder Than Is Used to Be
Another Redditor posted, “I think much of the issue lies in so many relying only on their degree and classes they took. The sad truth is college students now have to go above and beyond what previous generations had to for equivalent results. In the past, companies understood they’d take you under their wing and train you as you go if you’re a recent grad. Now, with degree saturation, mass layoffs, and job hopping being shared, there’s way more risk from the employer’s POV. Hence, entry-level roles require years of experience.
“So, is a college degree worth anything nowadays? It can be IF you pursue it more HOLISTICALLY to meet current market conditions. Of course, this can be easier said than done, and the below is assuming one studies STEM and Business:
“Develop Soft Skills: Often overlooked by STEM students. Many employers would instead hire candidates with potential cultural fit over a genius who can’t present their ideas well.
“Seeking out mock interviews helps a lot!
“Understand you’re learning HOW TO LEARN abstract/technical concepts. Being a good student has carried over into my professional life by being able to pick up things fast.
“Internships/Capstone/Major Projects: Good stand-ins for work experience on resume
“Networking: Take full advantage of career fairs, as well as with Professors. In my IT program, companies would reach out to some of my professors seeking top performers.
“If you’re at a ‘top school,’ bonus points on now having access to Alumni. This can be used as an in for internships and roles. Join Professional Clubs/Organizations Consider relevant on-campus jobs: can also be flexible around classes. Obtain Certifications as you go, and see if your college offers any access to resources like Coursera or LinkedIn Learning as part of tuition. Build a project portfolio of ones you’ve completed in courses and done on the side.
“Alternatively, if you are short on time AND Money, you could instead consider technical certifications that are in demand to get your foot in the door at least. For example, CompTIA certifications … for networking.
“TLDR: It all depends on your approach and efforts to meet the expectations of a more demanding job market. Gone are the days when you could literally knock door to door with just a Bachelor for an entry-level role.”
16. It Depends on the Degree
One user shared, “As always, it depends on what said degree is in. Gender studies won’t get you much, but bioengineering will.”
Another user added, “I’ve worked in oil and gas for over a decade, and I had no idea that geologists and paleontologists can easily make six figures working in the field. Even learning to weld can make you 45 to $60 an hour. Of course, schools don’t encourage this kind of study.”
17. A Degree Can Open up Connections
“I won’t say this applies to all degrees/jobs because I certainly agree a degree can open up connections to higher paying jobs, but my dad was in college for eight years for a business management degree … since he’s graduated like 12 years ago he’s had countless jobs he’s quit because he has gotten this mindset he should be getting paid more then what he does because he has a degree. On the other hand, I was in college for less than a year before I dropped out and started working because I hated school; since I started working, I’ve kept the same job for 10 years, and I have made more money than my entire family combined.
“Now again, I say I got lucky, and I know a lot of people aren’t as lucky, but if you already have a connection or already have something you know you’ll probably have a future with, then the degree is not necessary if you’ve already reached the top,” one commenter contributed.
18. A Degree Improves Your Odds, but It’s Not a Guarantee
One user posted, “Every I see people complaining about not finding a job, 95% of the time they do not have a degree. A college degree is not guaranteed, but it improves your chances of employment.”
19. Can You Make Money Going to College?
Another user shared, “In philosophy? No. In nursing, engineering, and s- where you can def go get a job.
“Research different states and the cost of education. I moved to California, and it was … near free. Actually, I made $$ going to college.”

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
Although our early 20’s are an exciting era full of new-found freedom, there are a lot of ways that the choices we make in our early adulthood affect the trajectory of the next few decades. Occasionally, someone finds the right teachers, mentors and friends to really set them up well for their 20’s and 30’s, but often we look back after several years and wish there were things we’d known how to do differently. From finance strategies to mental health awareness, savvy knowledge can make all the difference as young adults take their first steps towards forging their futures. Below are the 20 surprising things everyone wishes they knew at age 21.
1. Find Someone Who Shares Your Values
Whether you’re dating, getting married, or just trying to find friends, finding people who share your values is crucial. Of course you’ll always have differences with the people around you, but if you share the same core values, like kindness, being fiscally responsible, etc., you’ll find it much easier to remain together.
One user shared, “Find someone who shares your values and wants the same things as you when finding a partner. Whatever that is, everyone else is a placeholder at best and a waste of time and energy at worst.”
Another user replied, “That’s why I’m not dating right now.”
2. Invest Money as Soon as You Can
Investing even a small amount early in your life will drastically change your ability to retire comfortably later. No amount is too small: open some type of retirement account and put in even just ten dollars a month. Bonus points if you can put in your bonuses from work, your tax return, and other cash that’s not part of your regular income!
One Redditor commented, “Invest money as soon as you’re able to while making sure you have enough money to survive on. The plan you may have for your life now may change. Be okay with that. My life is way different than I thought it would be. Stay physically active and eat healthy. Come 30s, it catches up to you if you stop being active and [don’t eat well].”
3. How Interest Rates Work
Interest rates work differently for you on different types of account; credit cards are different from loans, regular savings accounts are different from high-interest savings accounts.
One online user posted, “How interest rates work. What is a stock, and what to do with them. Impact of having children very early. Taxes. Keep making your dream a reality.”
4. How Precious Time Is
Time is one thing we’ll never get back once we give it away. That’s not to scare you; it’s not as if we should feel guilty for watching a movie we only slightly enjoyed. But time is a resource, and a really precious one. You can use time for social media, and if it’s relaxing to you that might be a good use of your hours. But don’t forget about relationships, education (even just learning hobbies counts!) and recreation that really refreshes you.
Another user added to the thread, “How precious time is.”
5. Everyone Has Their Own Issues: Do Not Expect Help
One user pointed out that, among other things, there won’t always be somebody who wants to listen to you vent or moan about your life, or to lend you money if that’s what you need. Plan ahead for yourself, don’t always assume your community will be your safety net.
One user broke down his own learnings and shared, “I wish I would have taken my credit seriously. Never stop being active; it greatly helps your mental and physical health. Learned a skill. I’m in IT now, but I should have been making way more at 35 if I had taken it seriously at 21.
“Who you choose as a partner matters a lot. Unless you have parents that love and have the means to help you, it’s just you against the world, and that’s okay. Everyone has their issues and do not expect help from anyone.”
Another user responded, “5 hit hard.”
6. Everything Is Going to Work Out Great
While you may have been launched into your 20s unprepared, wishing you knew a whole lot more than you did, don’t freak out. You know a lot more now. You’ve made it this far and you’re going to be ok.
“That regardless of how it looks right now, everything is going to work out great,” one user stated.
The OP replied, “My therapist reminds me of this during every session.”
7. Understand Monthly Installments
Lots of big-ticket items will offer you the chance to make several small payments instead of paying in one lump sum, but don’t assume it’s an easy way out of paying all at once. Double check how much the smaller payments actually add up to. Are they charging you interest, or hiking up the price just by making it look easier? Pay all at once if you can; it’ll save you some money, and help you to only buy things you can really afford.
Another commenter shared, “Okay, now take that monthly payment fee, multiply it by the number of months for the payment plan, and finally compare that result to the cost of them before the payment plan. Only had to learn that lesson once.”
8. Save as Much as You Can
One user commented, “Save as much money as you can; always split your checks into savings, bills, and for fun!! Just always those 3; just because you’re saving doesn’t mean you can’t have fun; limit yourself so you’re not spending so much money just on that. Putting these three categories together will save you a headache in the future. I started saving when I was 16 because I got my first job! By 20, I had saved 30k through work and financial aid.”
9. Find High-Paying Jobs
While everyone tells us in high school that we should follow our dreams, there’s a lot of wisdom in making sure you’ll be able to get a higher paying job too. If you put in several years with a higher paying job while you’re younger, imagine how much more freedom you could have to go after your hobbies when you have a good amount saved up?
One commenter added, “Find high-paying jobs that give you a 401k or retirement fund if you work full time. My job matches up to 4% of what I put in.”
10. Drinking Is Fun, but It’s Costly
We all know that the hard partying often starts in our 20’s, but how many of us have stopped to consider the cost of that? We’re not suggesting you don’t go out at all, but consider setting a budget for your evenings out, and plan how many times you go based on what you know you can afford.
One Redditor posted, “Drinking is fun, but it’s costly; I spent a lot of my money going out, and now that I’m 23 those ‘friends’ are nowhere to be found. Except for like 2.”
11. Find Friends That Will Stick With You
“Find friends that will stick with you no matter what. Watch out for jealous people who want your downfall. Not everyone will be happy with your achievements, and that’s okay, but don’t let them suck your energy and shine. Cut anyone that’s not making you a better person or pushing you to do better,” one user commented.
12. True Friends Will Always Be Honest
There will come a time in each our lives when when we need to be called out. It’s not comfortable or fun, but if you have friends who are willing to lovingly point out your flaws, consider yourself lucky. True friends will be honest with you and tell you when your habits have become hurtful. But true friends will also remain your friends afterwards; they’ll call you out and then stick around for the fallout and still love you on the other side.
One user shared, “True friends will always be honest even when it hurts … and they will be supportive and want what’s best for you. Don’t settle for less.”
13 Relationships Are Hard, but Dating Is Fun
One user posted, “Relationships [are hard], but dating is fun! As long as you are staying safe and setting boundaries. Relationships are fun when they work, and you feel fulfilled. Don’t settle for anything half-a-. If you spend 70% of your time unhappy and communicate that and nothing changes, it’s not worth it.”
14. Pick a Better College Degree
It’s true: your college degree can make or break your income earning potential. College isn’t necessary for everyone, but if you’re going to college, make sure that you’re choosing a really functional degree. If you want to get an education for fun, then be sure you can really afford to do that.
“Pick a better college degree. INVEST YOUR MONEY. Live frugally. Keep away from my dysfunctional family. Let my first boyfriend break up with me when he wanted to,” one user commented.
15. You Don’t Need to Do It All Tonight
Some of us need a serious pep-talk just to get up off our couches and get things done … and others need permission to just rest. So if that’s you, remember it’s ok not to get everything done at once. You may feel like you have to juggle everything, but a big key to “keeping it all together” is knowing which things you can drop and which things you actually need to get done.
One user shared, “You don’t need to do it all tonight.”
16. Forge Lots of Strong, Healthy Friendships
We’re made to live in community, and it shows. All of us will feel lonely from time to time, but having really strong friendships around you to support you in those times will help immensely. And sure, finding high-quality friends is really hard, but it will always pay off.
One Redditor highlighted friendship; “Forge as many strong, healthy friendships as possible.”
17. Take Care of Your Skin
Beyond taking care of your finances, your menta health and community, and your career, don’t forget your skin. Adjust your skin care to your climate and skin type, drink lots of water, and eat lots of whole foods. Those things together will probably make up ninety percent of a poppin’ skin care regime.
“I wish I’d taken better care of my skin. There’s a texture difference as you get older,” one commenter stated.
Another user replied, “Second this! Wearing sunscreen is always worth it (decades) later!”
18. Put Some Stock in Your Career
One user posted, “Wish I had taken more stock in my career. I wish I had taken college more seriously. I wish I hadn’t lost myself in another person so young. This destroyed my ability to have real relationships. Wish I had never stayed in upstate NY.”
19. How Fast You Become Yesterday’s News
Another Redditor shared, “How fast you forget about yesterday’s news. How eventually we all fade away and how nothing in this world lasts. So, all these fleeting pursuits of happiness lead to emptiness in the end. How quickly your body gives out on you as you age. How the older I am, the more I want to sleep as if I’m always catching up on a never-ending sleep debt. Or save money … lol.”
20. Bet on Apple Stock
One user commented, “To bet on Apple stock.in 1994, it was .24 cents a share. Sigh.”
Sure, it’s impossible to know which investments are going to really take off, but do yourself a favor and invest in what you can while you’re young. You might get a few duds, but hopefully there will be some winners among them. You have more ability to take chances while you’re young since you’re less likely to need the financial security yet, so take some time to learn what you’re doing or consult a professional.

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
When you think of the world today, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the negativity that saturates our news feeds and social media. But beneath all the grime and grimness lies a world full of countless wholesome people and things. To prove this point, we’ve compiled a list of some awesomely heartwarming behaviors below.
1. When People Get Really Excited Over Something
One user posted, “When people get really excited over something they enjoy.”
Another user replied, “I’m like 99% certain this is the only reason my girlfriend is into me. I’ll catch myself getting way too into the weeds explaining some tedious technical thing that she obviously couldn’t care less about, start apologizing for getting carried away, and say, ‘No, keep going. I love seeing you get really into things you care about, even if I don’t understand!’ She’s a keeper.”
2. When Someone Remembers a Really Small Detail I’ve Only Mentioned Once
There’s very little that can make you feel more loved than when you feel seen. There’s something uniquely special to knowing that somebody paid close attention to you, to what you said and what you love.
One user shared, “When someone remembers a really random small detail I’ve only mentioned once.”
Another user commented, “Bought a girlfriend her favourite flower for Valentine’s Day. She was blown away because she didn’t remember ever saying it was her favourite. She had mentioned it in passing on maybe the second date. But yeah, I won a billion brownie points for that.”
3. Doing the Right Thing Even When It’s Inconvenient
It’s hard enough to do the right thing when it seems minor or negligible, or when nobody’s going to know. But if you choose to do the right thing even when it might hurt other people’s perception of you, that’s a pretty incredible display of character.
Another Redditor posted, “Doing the right thing even when it’s inconvenient. I was on a date, and he took a call from a friend in crisis. They worked the problem out, and he said ‘I love you’ to his friend (who said it back). He explained he needed to take the call and apologized that it happened during the date. No apology is necessary! He demonstrated loyalty and vulnerability, and it was incredibly [attractive]. Even better that it’s just who he is; none of it was for show.”
4. Fully Present Parenting
There’s a lot of different methods and theories for parenting out there, but no matter what route you take, it’s crucial to remember that children are whole persons. Their desires matter and make a difference, even when correction is needed. And there’s nothing more beautiful than seeing adults treat children with respect and personhood.
“My husband will run around playing games with our son in the playground and fully commit to whatever game. There’s no standing around talking to the adults; he will get fully involved in the make-believe world. 10/10, fully present parenting,” stated one user.
5. People Who Make Themselves Crack Up
One Reddit user shared, “People that make themselves crack up. People with their particular and weird little sense of humour that unashamedly laugh at what they think is so funny. Extra points if they’re laughing because of a joke they’re telling themselves. It’s my favourite thing to see someone do.
“As long as the joke doesn’t seriously hurt other people. I love good dark humor. If someone’s genuinely trying to be hateful, it loses appeal completely.”
6. Seeing a Man Be Genuinely Happy for Someone Else
One user shared, “Seeing a man be genuinely happy for someone else, I recently discovered this about myself.”
Another user replied, “As an add-on to that—when a man is so supportive of his partner and their goals but does not feel threatened by them. I have a bachelor’s degree, while my husband has an AA, so I’ve always made more money than him. I intend to go back to grad school someday & he recently even asked if I’d do my PhD after, something I hadn’t even considered, not because I don’t think I could do it; I just hadn’t thought that far ahead. It made me so giddy knowing he fully believes in my capabilities & is ready to support me no matter what.”
7. When Someone Helps Old People
The same ego-centric attitude that blinds people to the personhood of children often makes them blind to the personhood and respectability of the elderly. But each of us has been young, and we will eventually be old. We were whole persons then, we are now, and we will be as we age too. We should treat other people with the respect we hope will be offered to us.
“When someone helps old people. Maybe getting up to give their seat to them in a public bus or, in general, helping them carry their heavy bags or something,” one user shared.
One user replied, “Compassion, in general, is such an attractive quality.”
8. Making Sure That Everyone Around Her Has Eaten on Time
At some point, we’ve all been victim to low blood sugar. Whether you actually felt weak and shaky, or you just got grumpy and irritable, or you noticed it was harder to think clearly, at some point we’ve been affected by the symptoms. So how incredible would it be to have a friend who didn’t take your attitude personally, but just asked if you’ve eaten anything?
Another user shared, “A friend of mine has this habit of ensuring everyone around her has eaten on time. ‘A well-fed tummy makes the brain think properly.’ That’s her exact words.”
9. Silliness, the Sillier, the Hotter
There is something magical about having friends who know how to be silly. It’s as if the walls really come down and they let you see the playful heart they’ve been holding on to since childhood. Silliness is about as wholesome as it gets.
“Silliness, the sillier, the hotter,” posted one user.
10. When a Person Knows the Right Time to Listen
Being able to problem-solve is wonderful, and being the friend who motivates others to take action is impressive. But in an emotional crisis, everybody needs a good listener. It’s extra special to have people you can rely on to listen and understand without feeling the need to solve or fix your problems.
One user shared, “When a person knows the right time to simply listen to someone in distress and the right time to offer advice.”
11. There Is Nothing Like Seeing Compassion in a Man
There is something almost universally wonderful about meeting a man who has tenderness and compassion.
Another Redditor shortly shared her husband’s story and said, “My husband grew up extremely poor. Not homeless, but close. Whenever we’re out, and we see someone asking for food, he will quietly walk over and take them to whatever restaurant they want. He will then order them whatever they want. When we met, he was in grad school and had no money. He still did this. It made me swoon.”
One commenter replied, “There is nothing like seeing compassion in a man.”
12. Confident Without Being Cocky
It takes a lot of character to be willing to let others get the credit, to show of that they know the answers, while you also know the answers. That’s humility. And humility with intelligence is an incredible trait. Humility allows us to see others and serve others, and help others do well; but paired with a good intellect and the ability to succeed well? That’s nearly unbeatable.
“How to explain this…? When I was in junior high, all the good students would raise their hands, barely staying in their seats, just desperately trying to get called on. There was this one guy, Jack, who just leaned back and watched. Totally chill. Jack NEVER raised his hand. But any time the teacher called on him, he knew the answer.
“He was the smartest guy in the class, but he felt ZERO desire to prove it or show off. I found that So. [Dang]. Hot. I’ve been drawn to quiet confidence ever since,” shared one Redditor.
13. They Cared About the Burdens I Face
Sympathy is the ability to care about somebody’s problems, but empathy is when you’re able to feel some of the same things they feel, either because you’ve been in the same circumstance or because you’ve felt those feelings in another situation. And empathy will win loyalty like no other skill or trait.
One user stated, “Empathy. I would follow someone into battle at the Fields of Pelennor or the Black Gate of Mordor if I got the sense that they understood and cared about the burdens I face.”
Another user confirmed and responded, “100% the same.”
14. When They Cook for Me
I’ve heard it said that when a friend or family member is grieving, instead of asking how they are, you can just ask if they’ve eaten yet today. And if they haven’t, you can take care of them and make them feel loved just by making them a meal to eat. Food really does act as a love language.
“Being cooked for. Nothing better than your significant other making sure you’re fed.”
15. He Can Talk to Anyone
“My husband is basically a collection of wholesome traits that I find outrageously attractive. He never snarks, gossips, or puts people down. He’s all about lifting people, whatever their life may be. He loves to hype people and celebrate life.
“He can talk to anyone and make a connection. He would go to anyone’s family cookout and legitimately be so happy to try the food and find out what your aunts and uncles were like. When I say, ‘Hey, someone new is coming to our house for dinner/to spend the weekend,’ he’s just like, ‘Cool! Let’s plan recipes!’
“Our Maine Coon has him absolutely under her control. He talks to her so sweetly. He’s precious with our old lady dog. One of my favorite pics of him is from a hike where her joints started hurting. He carried her like a baby the rest of the way, and she looks so happy in the pic.
“No matter how tired he is, when we are visiting any of our parents, he fixes things around their house for them. It’s nothing for him just to install a dishwasher or move machinery equipment.
“He really, really appreciates anything new he gets. Like I got him some nice sandals a few weeks ago, and he has told me how much he likes them at least four times.
“When we became a couple, he made a video for me. It was a screen recording of him deleting all his dating apps. Each one asked why he wanted to cancel/delete, and he gave them a 1-star review and wrote, ‘Didn’t have BurntGreens.’ And the two apps he did match with me on, he gave five stars and said, ‘Found BurntGreens.’
“In every decision I’ve seen him make, he chooses what’s best for the greater good over what’s easiest for himself.
“He’s become fishing buddies with our neighbour, who is a very good dude as well. My husband recently bought a boat—something both guys have wanted for a long time and the neighbor couldn’t afford. My husband said, ‘Now, this isn’t my boat. It’s our boat. We’re both captains.’
“When I told him how much I struggled with self-esteem stuff once, he bought a heart-shaped bowl and filled it with little folded pieces of paper, each describing something different he loved about me. …
“EDIT: I’m so glad y’all love him as much as I do! Man, I could talk about that dude all day.
“Someone commented on him sounding too optimistic. If you only knew this dude’s backstory—he’s lived through crazy, crazy life experiences and been so resilient. He wound up dropping out of high school as a result, lived through [some awful things], and pulled himself up. Today, he’s a self-taught IT engineer,” shared one user.
16. When Someone Is Singing or Humming to Themselves
There’s something beautiful about knowing that a person can be content and happy in their own little world. It’s as if they’re able to create their own little contented environment, and people who do that are so often able to invite you into cheerful and contented environments. Those people cultivate joy on purpose.
Another online user posted, “Whenever someone is singing or humming a song to themselves and they seem like they’re just lost in their own world, it usually makes my heart skip a beat. My ex used to do this a lot, and it was one of the cutest things they’d do.”
17. Being Friendly to Animals
It’s been a true test for ages now; if you’re kind to your animals, you’re likely to be kind to people as well. It takes humility and consideration to make sure your animals are taken care of properly, and if you’ve cultivated the ability to be kind and tender towards an animal, then it comes much easier with people.
“Being nice to animals,” one Redditor shared.
18 Watching Anyone Be Good With Kids
One user shared, “Watching anyone be good with kids, really listening and engaging with them makes me think nothing but about how nice they are, and I bet they’d look great being not nice to me in the bedroom …”
Another user replied, “I’ve been on the receiving end of this several times. First time it ever happened as a teen. I didn’t realize she pounced on me once we left the house because I was nice to her nephew and niece … “
19 When a Guy Has a Positive Mindset Despite All Odds
There’s a time for compassionate listening, and there’s a time for getting down to the solution. And sometimes finding a solution takes lots of work and gets pretty stressful. It requires the ability to come up with lots of ideas and the ability to cheerfully accept that many of those ideas may not be the right ones. That’s a pretty rare trait all around, but for women who are more focused on emotional connection, holding a relationship as separate from the process of finding a solution and shooting down ideas is extra hard. And therefore, extra fantastic.
Another user stated, “When a guy has a positive mindset despite all odds. The ability to find a solution instead of being negative is hot …”
One user replied, “In the same vein, women who can collaborate to solve a problem. I do IT work, so it’s a requirement at work, but when it happens outside of work naturally, it’s pretty f- awesome.”
20. Being Genuine
All of us put up some kind of front, at some point. But there’s a huge difference between simply toning down your normally exuberant behavior so you don’t disrupt a classroom, and practicing a masking behavior with the hope that nobody will see past it. And occasionally, you’ll meet someone who tries to keep the mask off entirely as often as possible, and their honest and openness can be really refreshing.
“Being genuine. So many people I deal with try to project this attitude and personality that just [isn’t] them, and it shows. It feels dishonest, and it feels shallow. Like they are trying to be some idealized person to capture someone they want, and then what will they do? Keep up the lie forever, change, or revert to who they are and hope the person will stay. It just is something that really means a lot to me is when someone is genuine with who they are. Even a s- person is less s- to me if they are true about it,” one user shared.

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US
Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
Each of us has wondered whether the grass is greener on the other side from time to time, but married people and parents of young kiddos especially seem to struggle. So it’s important to ask: is youth and singleness all it’s cracked up to be, or will the challenge of fighting for your marriage and parenting young children be the investment that really pays off?
Single life has its ups and downs—moments of joy, raw happiness, intense loneliness, sadness and everything in between. But it’s ultimately up to us as individuals to find contentment with our circumstances or strive for bigger and better things. Below are 15 stories from other single people about what real singleness looks like without attachment, and whether it’s happier over all.
1. I’d Like Someone to Share Things With
One benefit of marriage that the married ones often forget about is companionship. Sure, the other elements of marriage are good and necessary, but there’s something deeply special about coming home from a really hard day at work and having somebody you can talk to about it. Or coming home after getting a promotion and having someone special to share it with—without having to search your contacts for whom you’ll text first. Is that camaraderie worth trading for the freedom to do what you want, when you want, without coordinating with anyone else? Well, maybe.
One user shared, “30M if it’s relevant. It’d be nice to find someone to share stuff with, and all that … but being solo and only having myself in my own way when it comes to doing things is great. I haven’t dated anyone in about five years. The prospect of trying to find someone I can tolerate, that also wants what I want (being childfree is a b-) feels impossible. I also don’t know if I even have the capacity to care anymore. I’m socially inept [as heck], so I’ve only really tried the online route. Until I finally decide to give a s-, I have my two cats that can bug me all they like.”
Another user added, “I’m the exact same age, haven’t dated since I was like 26 and love my cat, he’s my dude! Also, I don’t want kids, not because I hate them or anything; I just don’t think it’s for me. I don’t get the whole peopling thing either. Just realized I have liked travelling for the past couple of years, so I started being an OTR trucker. It’s pretty cool for guys like us if you ask me. I drove through the Grand Canyon the utter day, and it was f- beautiful, my guy.”
2 I’m Just a Very Touch-Oriented Person
Pets, throw blankets and soft pillows are the hugs of the home-alone world. Now don’t misunderstand us; there’s something really super special about cuddling with your pets. (Imagine all that understanding and love without any of the backtalk or arguments!) But being touch-starved is a real thing. Whether everyone is willing to trade in their singleness for someone to come home to, and to hug just depends on the person though.
One Redditor posted, “Nope. It’s not the relationship factor. I’m just a very touch-oriented person. Not being able to touch someone just hurts. I want to touch someone, but I want them actually to like me.”
One user replied, “Oh my god, it’s the touch, for sure. It’s so unbelievably easy to go literal months without being touched by a human being. I’m so touch-starved, but there’s no outlet for it in society anywhere except relationships.”
3. We Expected a Fairytale
One reason so many people are shy of commitment to another individual for the rest of their lives is that they’ve grown up on the fairytales with the magical endings, and then they’ve been sucker-punched by the reality of struggling marriages, and the hard work that relationships require. It’s enough to make anyone shy of marriage. It’s true: marriages take a lot of effort and forgiveness. There’s a lot of joy to be found in loving and sacrificing for another person, but it’s not going to be a walk in the park, and you have to know that before you choose it.
“Yeah, we all pictured a Disney movie and then had to deal with reality. Very tired of this narrative with a House, a Spouse, and a couple of kids = endless happiness,” commented one user.
One user replied, “I think, in general, we struggle with the myth of ‘if I get to this state, I’ll have happiness .’ You get there, and you want something else. Happiness is a process/journey, not a destination. You can have the nicest house, the best spouse, great kids, go on great vacations, fancy cars, etc., and be f- miserable.”
4. I’m Extremely Lonely
Regardless of whether you’re hoping to get married, all of us were designed to live in some sort of community, with some sort of friendship around us. And sometimes, that’s really hard to find outside of family.
One user shared, “No, I’m extremely lonely.”
One user stated, “Thank you for saying what most of us think. I have my parents as a support system, but if I didn’t have them, I would literally be on the street, mostly by choice but also to better survive financially. I’ve been in a relationship most of my adult life, and even though I was the codependent one, I always had things put together and looking back, I don’t even know how I did it. I am finally setting boundaries and knowing my worth, and I’ve never felt so lonely. Then I try to put myself out there, and guys love my personality but don’t find me physically attractive, and I’m just throwing my hands up like apparently I can’t f- play this game anymore.”
5 Not a Fan of the “Single and Happy” Mantra Anymore
Ultimately, the reality is that happiness isn’t tied to marriage or singleness. Your happiness is tied to you. Your mental health, your ability to choose what brings you joy, and your ability to find joy or contentment even when things don’t work out well for you are the real factors that will determine your satisfaction with life, regardless of whether you marry or not.
One Redditor posted, “I’m not really a fan anymore of the whole ‘single and happy’ mantra, like being single is just a state of being, happiness isn’t tied to happy with it. Like you can be in a relationship and be miserable, too, you know what I mean?
“For someone who’s never been in a relationship? Am I single and happy? No. Am I single and miserable? No. I’m just single. It’s just the state I’m in.”
However, one user responded, “That’s why it’s called single AND happy. The conjunction ‘and’ allows one to describe two states of being.”
6. I’m Not Good at Spotting Red Flags in People
Marriage is a serious step, and your spouse isn’t someone you want to be mistaken about later on. If you’re not able to find somebody who loves, respects and enjoys you, then yeah, the goal of marriage should probably take a back seat for a while.
“Most of the relationships I’ve had, I’ve either been cheated on, abused, or both. I’ve had partners who take endlessly and never give. My last relationship was really terrible, and he mistreated me horribly. I have accepted that I’m just not good at spotting red flags in people, and I guess I’m not a great judge of character, so for my own safety and sanity, I need to be alone. Being alone is better than being with someone who actively chooses to mistreat you and doesn’t view you as a partner but rather a domestic servant.
“I wish my life would have turned out differently because I’d like to know what it feels like to be loved. But it’s not in the cards for me. Other than that, I try to be as happy as I can. I have a lot of hobbies and don’t often get bored or lonely. I’m certainly happier not being abused,” shared one Redditor.
7. Don’t Want to Change Who I Am Anymore
An online user said, “I could have written this. I worked on my codependent tendencies, but I don’t want to change who I am anymore. I like that I’m easygoing and kind. But I realized that most people are not, and I end up being taken advantage of endlessly, so I decided it’s better to be alone.
“In answer to the question, I AM happy. It’s not because I’m single or despite it. I have been happy in relationships and out of them. Happiness is more about being at peace with yourself, aligning with your values, and having a purpose. I have all those things with or without a partner. Looking for one felt like an exercise in futility, so I stopped and just started living my life. And I love it.”
8. Sometimes Happy, Many Times Lonely
Whether you’re touch oriented, want somebody to talk to, or just wish there were somebody to come home to, another person present in the house—marriage can be hugely satisfying. Loneliness is nearing epidemic proportions in the US these days, and it’s an ache that never fully goes away without a strong community of family or friends around you. To be fair, there are lonely marriages as well, and many people with happy marriages and strong family and friend relationships feel lonely from time to time. But the feelings are likely to be less pervasive with a spouse or even roommates in your life.
One user commented, “Sometimes happy, many times lonely.”
9. Would Rather Want Something I’ll Never Have Than Have Something I Never Wanted
“My grandma used to say ‘I would rather go through life wanting something that I could never have rather than having something I never wanted.’
“We have the most significant single population that we have ever had. At least, we live in a time when we have a choice. Many of the women in my family were almost guilted into marriage,” one user added.
10. I’m Solely Responsible for Everything
One user shared, “No, the way I see it, even if you ignore the mental health aspects of isolation, it’s made my life MUCH harder. I’m solely responsible for paying for and doing everything on my own. I have no feedback from others on any of the decisions I made. Pretty much no one knows where I am or what I’m doing. My life feels sort of meaningless and without connection as a result. I’d say it’s about as damaging to my overall quality of life as being broke and unemployed, and it’s made me much lazier and more pessimistic as a person as a result.”
11. Trying to Be Happy on My Own
One user said, “I’m trying to be happy alone. However, there are a few things I know for sure:
“Humans are wired for connection (romantic and platonic). Successful mating is the single biggest biological driver we have. Our society generally reinforces the idea that we need a partner to be whole and happy.
“I have accepted that I will never be the happiest version of myself without the right long-term romantic relationship. However, I’m still pretty happy being single. I’m glad I can say so, as this has prevented me from marrying the wrong person several times.
“I’d much rather be single and a little lonely than coupled up with someone that I’m not madly in love with.”
12. Become a Cat Dad
Another user posted, “I’ve become a cat dad. The relationships I’ve tried can’t handle my work schedule for one reason or another. I’d love for a companion, but video games keep me happy enough.”
As much as we value human connection, it’s important to have good boundaries with unhealthy people, and to fill those needs for connection in ways that nurture you. For example, with cats.
13. I Have Good and Bad Days
One Redditor added, “I would say I have good and bad days. I’m a 30-year-old, single woman who hasn’t dated anyone in over 9 years. I have wanted to, but it never seems to work out. The times I have shown interest in someone, it wasn’t mutual and vice versa. I would love to get married and have kids one day, but in the dating culture of today, it seems harder and harder to believe it can happen.”
14. Not Comfortable Settling Down
“I’m more comfortable in my off-and-on relationships rather than settling down yk, but my social anxiety keeps me from seeking out new relationships, so idk. It certainly is less stressful, as some people might say, because you don’t have to worry about keeping tabs on another person, or trying to focus on their happiness as well as your own. But sometimes loneliness seems overwhelming, but there are other things you can do to overcome it rather than thinking that happiness can only come from relationships,” stated one user.
15. I Am Responsible for My Own Happiness
One user shared his brightness and posted, “Yes. I am responsible for my happiness whether it be with or without a partner.”
It’s true: ultimately, even the glow of a new romantic relationship will wear off, and you’ll get into fights with the spouse you love more than anyone else in the world. So whether you’re married or single, perfectly content or wishing things were different, remember that joy get to choose how you react to your own situation, and you can make the best of it wherever your path lies.

The Best Days vs. Times: A Comparative Study
Is it better to DoorDash on weekdays or weekends?
Weekends are the clear champs. That’s when folks unwind, and have a good time, and yes, the demand for food deliveries goes through the roof.
On the flip side, there are less Dashers during the week. So, you can possibly earn more if you know the right area.
Morning, lunch, dinner, or late night: Which is the prime time for dashing?
Lunch and dinner reign as king and queen of prime dash times. But don’t dismiss late-night dashes.
Specifically, in areas buzzing with nightlife or universities, late-night can bring a healthy influx of orders. Morning can be hit or miss, largely dependent on your local market. Thus, a great side hustle for college students.
What is the slowest day for DoorDash?
Mondays top the charts as the slowest day of the week for DoorDash. Folk are just shaking off their weekend mood and are less prone to order in.
Some tout Tuesday and Wednesday as the slowest DoorDash days too, so keep that in mind when planning your shifts.
Are there any specific days in the week that offer higher earnings than others?
Absolutely! When it comes to higher earning potential, Saturday and Sunday are the clear winners. Weekends are like a magnet for order activities, which means more opportunities for you to boost your earnings. And if you happen to catch a long weekend, that’s even better!
But here’s the deal – these are general trends. Keep in mind that some towns might have their own unique quirks, like a Taco Tuesday tradition that can make all the difference in your earnings. So, stay open to local insights and adapt your strategy accordingly!
Maximizing earnings during peak hours
To maximize your DoorDash earnings during peak hours, you’ve got to stay in sync with local demand. Pay attention to special events, holidays, and weekends when people prefer ordering in, and keep an eye on weather changes, as rain and snow tend to increase order frequency.
For a winning strategy, position yourself strategically near restaurant partners to receive orders swiftly. Be selective with the orders you accept during peak times to make the most of high demand, and always remember to deliver with a friendly smile, because exceptional service goes a long way in building customer loyalty and boosting your income!

Strategic Planning Tips: Key is the Busiest Time to Doordash
Analyzing Location for the Best Times to Doordash in My Area
Your location is a game-changer for your Dashing journey. Consider this: urban areas are bustling with customers, while suburbs might yield bigger orders. So, explore your turf, identify areas teeming with DoorDash restaurant partners, and stick around.
Also, pay attention to where you’re making those drop-offs. Do residential areas bring in better tips, or does corporate tip higher? The sweet spots in different cities can vary, so it’s all about finding where your golden opportunities lie and making them your own.
Experimenting with different shifts to identify the most profitable times
Each time frame reveals its own unique potential for lucrative orders. So, switch things up, and you might just uncover unexpected opportunities and generous tips along the way!
Just make sure to log your earnings to compare.
Professionalism and Customer Service Matter
Your earnings and your ratings go hand in hand, making professionalism an absolute must. Following customer instructions, and ensuring a positive interaction all contribute to your review. Don’t forget to dress the part, maintain a friendly demeanor, and be responsive.
But here’s the secret sauce – infuse your interactions with a personal touch. Small gestures, like including extra cutlery or offering a weather-friendly greeting, can set your service apart and earn you those coveted 5-star ratings.
It’s all about going the extra mile for customer satisfaction!
Why delivering during promotions, bonuses, and streaks is beneficial
So to sum it up, what would really light up your earnings are promotions, bonuses, and those streaks that make the game interesting. My friend, Susan, said to pay attention to: Peak Pay or Challenges.
Peak Pay is your chance to pocket extra cash for every delivery when things are buzzing. The best part is, DoorDash rolls out these goodies during high-demand periods to give you that extra push to hit the road.
Well, they’re like your roadmap to earning bonuses by hitting a specific number of deliveries within a set timeframe. Typically $1-3 dollars extra per delivery. 3
Which Peak Times will You Choose to Doordash?
In conclusion, the optimal times to make the most out of your DoorDash side gig are during lunch, dinner, and late-night shifts.
Experimentation though, is key to understanding what works best in your particular market.
You could further optimize your earnings by utilizing other gig apps such as Uber Eats and Instacart, or by capitalizing on specific types of orders, such as alcohol deliveries, which may provide higher earnings. Remember factors such as tips, peak pay, and other incentives can impact your earnings, so keep an open mind and always look for new strategies to maximize your income.
Whether you’re a morning person fueling the coffee rush or a night owl catering to late-night snackers, the choice is yours.
