Bank of America has sent out a letter to existing Major League Baseball (MLB) cardholders stating that their Major League Baseball Customized Cash Rewards credit card will become a Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards card (some people are being converted to the Customized Cash Rewards credit card, this has the same rewards program as the MLB card) because the partnership between BofA & MLB has ended. Existing cardholders will receive their new card in the middle of March. The Unlimited card earns 1.5% back on all purchases, whereas the old card earned 3%/2% in select categories and 1% back on all other purchases.
Bank of America has been MLB’s official bank since 2004, although it has had the credit card portfolio since before then. MLB is expected to announce a new banking partnership before the start of the season. Because BofA is converting cardholders to a BofA product it’s clear the new banking partner has not purchased the back book from BofA.
