It’s that time of the year where many of us make — and later break — a new year’s resolution to lose weight
But what if you could get paid to lose weight? Would making money incentivize you to stick with it?
Table of Contents
weight-loss is big business. With expensive exercise equipment to gym memberships, specialty fitness studios, and fancy workout clothes, it’s natural to correlate getting fit with spending money rather than making money.
But you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get fit. You can work out for free at home using YouTube exercise videos. And you can get inexpensive workout gear at places like Target and Walmart.
Even better, you really can make money getting fit and losing weight. We’ve discovered six fantastic ways for you to get paid to lose weight and get healthy.
HealthyWage
Do you have a goal weight in mind? Do you absolutely know you can reach that goal?
Place a bet you can reach your goal, and you will win a prize check when you do.
That’s the idea of HealthyWage, you make a bet on yourself. We don’t normally advocate betting, but when it’s on yourself, it’s a great idea. Anything that motivates you to keep your money by winning a prize check while getting healthier is good by us.
When I ran the numbers on their prize calculator, I learned I could make up to $882 by losing 25 lbs. in 12 months. That’s a tidy sum to add to the already satisfying reward of being healthy and fit.
To get started, enter your goal weight and time frame on the prize calculator to see what your winning prize will be.
Fail-proof your bet by picking a goal weight and a time frame you’re absolutely positive you can succeed with.
When you’re done, you’ll be a healthy, slender you – and you’ll win a hefty prize check from HealthyWage. That’s what you call a win-win.
You can also compete in team challenges to win up to $10,000. Join with your team at work and cheer each other on. Or join a team through the site to support each other towards your ultimate goals; weight loss and prize money!
DietBet
DietBet is similar to the Team Challenges at HealthyWage. The site adds you to a team of like-minded people with similar goals, and you get a monetary prize to split with your team when you achieve them.
DietBet offers 3 challenges to choose from:
- Kickstarter – “Lose A Little” – 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks.
- Transformer – “Lose A Lot” – 10% of your body weight in 6 months.
- Maintainer – “Hold Steady” – Maintain your body weight (+- 2%) for 12 months.
You make your bet and either pay each month or one time up-front. Reach your goal and split the pot with the other winners.
Perhaps the best part is the community support you receive as you challenge yourself and work towards a common goal.
Many people “level up” by continuing to enter challenges, and winning more money, as they improve their health and fitness.
Achievement
Do you use fitness apps, such as Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, Strava or Apple Health? You can earn cash simply by connecting them to Achievement.
Achievement is an app that syncs up with popular fitness apps (the company supports over 30 apps) and earns you points for staying active. Those points are then redeemable as cash ($10 for 10,000 points!).
The site rewards you for doing what you are going to do anyway. You likely walk every day, so why not connect your fitness app to Achievement and earn a little for it.
Step up your earnings by exercising more. You can also share your results online to earn even more.
You can earn 50 bonus points just for signing up, which you can do at the iTunes and Android stores. You can also enter your email address on their website to get started.
Charity Miles
Don’t want the rewards for yourself? Charity Miles gives you the opportunity to make a difference helping others while improving your fitness and losing weight.
Log in to the app, and earn money for charity by staying active.
You’ll earn 10 cents for every mile you cycle, and 25 cents for every mile you walk or run.
Charity Miles teams up with 37 widely-known charities, including Stand Up To Cancer, The Wounded Warrior Project, Altzheimers Association and, my personal favorite, charity: water.
Using this app can help you reach your weight loss and charitable donation goals for the year.
Walgreens
Walgreens is another company seeking to reward you for living a healthier lifestyle.
With its Balance Rewards program, you earn points and save money on Walgreens purchases when you track your healthy behaviors.
To start, grab the tracking tool which will track your activities and update your points.
Walgreens gives you 9 different ways to earn points. Setting a healthy goal nets you 250 points, and 250 more when you achieve it. Link up your fitness app – you guessed it — another 250 points. Daily weigh-ins earn you 20 points each time.
You can see how the points can add up quickly and can save you a lot of money at the cash register!
Flexible jobs with exercise
When exercising is part of your job, it’s easier to lose weight and keep it off. And who doesn’t love getting paid to lose weight?
Postmates
Postmates hires people to walk, scoot or bike while delivering goods around town. The best part is, you get to work only when you want.
Postmates has agreements with many major brands including Starbucks, McDonald’s and the Apple Store so you’re sure to be active and burning the calories while you make money.
Dog Walking
Like animals? Dog walking is a fantastic job, offering flexible hours and great exercise.
Most dog walkers earn $15-25 per walk, depending on your area. Walks typically vary between 20 minutes and an hour and you can walk more than one dog at a time if you’re comfortable with it. This is a great way to get paid to lose weight.
Coaching and Officiating
Coaching and officiating youth sports is another great way to get paid to stay active while being active in your community.
As a coach, you’ll run warmups and drills and you can exercise alongside your players.
Referees get a lot of exercise, running up and down the field or court for the entire game. It’s great exercise and you’ll have the best vantage point to see all the action.
There are many jobs you can do which involve exercising: Personal trainer, City Guide, Hiking Guide, and many more. Use your imagination. What do you like to do? Can you incorporate exercise into it?
The Best Weight Loss Plan
The best diet and exercise plan is one that you can live with and actually enjoy, over the long term. If you feel deprived, you may be more inclined to abandon your weight loss plan and risk losing the progress you’ve made. Make changes that feel good to you and can be a part of your lifestyle for continued success.
By adding money to your weight loss plan, you’re more likely to stick with it. Being healthy and fit is the ultimate reward, and extra money in your pocket will keep you motivated to achieve it
