Give your vehicle the protection it deserves.
Covered parking is a parking lot or space with some form of cover to shield a vehicle. This type of parking can come in many forms, such as a carport or parking garage. And if you’re lucky, you can sometimes find this prized amenity in an apartment complex. We’ll give you some more information about this perk below.
1. Covered parking can guard your vehicle
Your car can be shielded from snow, hail, heavy winds, rain showers or anything else that might cause damage, which could save you money on window or paint repairs.
It’s a bonus that you don’t need to clear the snow off of your car or scrape your windshield during the cold winter months. It’s also nice in the summer when you don’t have the sun beating down on your car, making it unbearably hot.
2. This kind of parking is limited
Not all parking spots are covered, so you aren’t going to be guaranteed one. Many communities with covered parking have a first-come-first-serve policy or have a limit to how many covered parking spots each housing unit may use (i.e. one spot per apartment).
3. It provides convenience and comfort
Covered parking spaces offer added convenience and comfort for vehicle owners as opposed to regular, free parking. They provide a designated and protected place to park, meaning less time spent searching for a suitable space or worrying about finding one during inclement weather.
Depending on your apartment location, having a designated, covered spot is a luxury amenity. Parking is not always simple or readily available, especially in a larger city where street parking, hourly rate garages and parking services are prevalent.
4. You may pay an additional fee for this amenity
Because covered parking is limited, many communities charge an additional monthly fee for this space. Each community will have different prices based on the availability and demand for covered parking.
A parking garage is really nice to have, but depending on the price, it may not be worth it to you. If you live in an area with intense weather conditions, covered parking might save you time and money on vehicle repairs. But if you live in a milder climate, it may be nice, but not quite as beneficial.
5. It’s great for smaller vehicles
Parking garage spaces may have size restrictions, particularly in apartment buildings with limited space. If you own a larger vehicle or have specific parking requirements, you may find it challenging to accommodate your vehicle within the confines of a covered parking space.
Decide if covered parking is worth it
Even though you might have to pay a little more, this premium parking setup might be worth it due to the convenience it provides. You might be wishing you had it the next time there’s a snowstorm or can’t find a place to park! Still on the apartment hunt? Find your dream apartment (and parking garage) here!
