Marvelous Midcentury Modern Makeover in Beverly Hills Is Listed for $14.5M

January 22, 2021 by Brett Tams

A newly reimagined midcentury modern home in Beverly Hills has been done up to the nines and is available fully furnished for $14.5 million.

Built in 1963, the residence received the architect Hal Levitt treatment in 1972. The architect to the stars expanded the space, enlarged the closet to epic proportions, and redesigned the space overall.

In 2018, the current owner picked up the Trousdale Estates property for $5.75 million as an investment project. The place had largely been left untouched since its ’70s-era overhaul, with decades-old finishes in dire need of an overhaul.

The noted L.A.-based designer Carter Bradley was brought in to take on the four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom space. Expanded to 5,700 square feet, the vintage home has subsequently been transformed, both inside and out.

Rather than a minimalist white box, the vibrant interiors are “a new take on modern, warm and organic,“ says the listing agent, John Galich with Sotheby’s International Realty-Beverly Hills Brokerage.

Galich notes that the project took almost two years, which included working with the neighbors to remove dozens of trees, with the goal of opening up the views.

Set on almost a half acre, the property features a patio, swimmer’s pool, and an unobstructed skyline. The home now offers sumptuous vistas, and the interiors pack a similar visual wallop.

The opulence starts at the coved ceiling of the formal entrance, and moves into an equally gorgeous dining room, which has a floor-to-ceiling wall of curved glass windows, and an oval-shaped living area, complete with bar. All these are original elements that have been updated and transformed.

The brand-new kitchen features black granite counters, custom cabinetry, Thermador appliances, and an island that extends to include an eat-in dining area. A sunny family room features a fireplace and custom built-ins.

The master suite opens out to the pool, and the epic closet space is a clotheshorse’s dream, with custom storage, a dressing area, and a vanity.

It’s only equaled by the circular master bathroom, another original design detail revived in the latest refresh.

Other new features include raising the ceiling heights to 10 feet throughout the home, and painting the outside a deep agave green, a shade that carries inside to the kitchen, master suite, and dining room.

In addition to the cool color palette, audiovisual updates were made throughout, new security systems were added, custom window treatments were put in place, and an entry courtyard with a water feature was installed.

Eye-catching features selected by the designer, who sourced vintage and custom pieces from around the world, include Murano glass light fixtures from Venice and bespoke pieces made locally, Galich notes. We admit to swooning over the curved couch, which reflects the shape of the living area.

The home offers a timeless design that’s both livable and likable.

“Though her properties are inherently stylish, comfort is the most important aspect,” Galich says of Bradley’s work. “She doesn’t like trends. She tries to design a home that is really going to last the generations.”
