In line with the majority view, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago president Austan Goolsbee said he expects three interest rate cuts this year as officials grapple with balancing inflation and growth.
In a recent interview, Goolsbee aligned himself with the median projection from the Fed’s March policy meeting, stating, “I was at the median for this one.”
Ten policymakers foresee at least three cuts, while nine others anticipate two or fewer. While hesitant to predict the exact timing, Goolsbee highlighted the Fed’s dual mandate to manage inflation and maintain healthy employment levels.
