An important room in the home where you start and end each day, your bedroom should be a restful sanctuary of calm and comfort, as well as a joyful showcase of your style.
bedroom ideas, the classics will often remain, such as crisp, quality bedding, good accent lighting and practical clothes storage, but there will always be an array of wonderful new interior design trends to explore that can provide you with some beautiful inspiration for your sleep space.
These are the bedroom design trends to know about for 2024
Whether you’re looking to giving your existing bedroom a much needed refresh, or are starting from scratch in a new space, our round-up of the latest bedroom trends can help you craft the perfect scheme.
1. Embrace a cozy and cocooning color palette
Camilla Clarke, creative director at Albion Nord says, ‘going into 2024, your bedroom should be the ultimate sanctuary space. Fully embrace cozy and calming colors, particularly soft blues, and deep olive greens. Pairing these shades with warm lighting will help to create feelings of restfulness and serenity.’
Calming colors do not always have to be light and bright for bedroom color ideas, sometimes these lighter colors can make a space feel a little cold. Dark, moody and earthy palettes can work just as well in creating a warming, comforting and cocooning space that helps us feel more relaxed and snug.
This chocolate brown bedroom creates a wonderfully inviting, cozy feel, with the beautiful ochre headboard, ceiling wallpaper ideas and flowing curtains creating an elegant, uplifting contrast in the space.
Elicyon says, ‘In 2024, I believe we are going to see an integration of vintage and contemporary design aesthetics to create one cohesive scheme throughout a room or home’.
From paint trends embracing a more heritage feel, to the surging popularity of upcycling second-hand finds and decorating with vintage and antiques, styling your bedroom with a mix of the old and new will create a more eclectic and unique scheme that celebrates styles of the past with designs of the present.
British Interior Designer, Matthew Williamson also supports this and says, ‘as we venture into 2024, I imagine we will see a resurgence of antique sourcing, reclaiming, restoring and upcycling. My favorite interiors to work on are those which don’t necessarily start from scratch or have a huge budget but those which have been designed with all these aspects in play. Considering what you have already and seeing it reworked in a different way can be so rewarding, more personal, and just as effective.’
From a statement antique dresser, to more traditional patterns used across upholstery and wallpaper ideas combined with vibrant, modern paint ideas, exploring more than one style or design influence will make for a more diverse and characterful bedroom space.
accent color, to enhancing a space with eye-catching print and pattern, layering different styles and sizes of cushion will continue to be an enduring bedroom trend throughout 2024.
Brad Ramsey, principal and founder of Brad Ramsey Interiors says, ‘In 2024, expect to see layered collections of mismatched pillows used to style beds. As well as larger anchor pillows, smaller designs that feature beautiful patterns are also on trend for 2024 bedroom trends.’

The Citizenry share with us, ‘according to our data, our top trending materials of 2022 were all natural. High-quality sustainable woods including hinoki cypress from Japan and granadillo or mahogany from Guatemala. Textured, natural materials also had peaked interest including hand-braided palm baskets and rattan and wicker furniture. We see these materials continuing to uptrend into 2023 with an addition of bold marble and unique statement stone that nods to traditional European influences.’
From the timeless use of wood, to locally handmade textiles and pre-loved furniture, there are many steps we can take in our homes to create spaces that are long-lasting and environment-friendly.
5. Statement wallpapers are here to stay
Bedroom wallpaper ideas are a popular choice for many; enriching a space with beautiful color, pattern and eye-catching visual interest, and it seems for 2024, the bigger and bolder, the better.
‘We’re going to see wonderfully whimsical and immersive wallpapers transform rooms into escapist sanctuaries filled with mountains, temples, clouds and dense foliage,’ says Ed O’Donnell, co-founder of Angel O’Donnell.
We are also starting to see the rise of more unique, textured wallpapers in the home, establishing a heightened, tactile effect, ideal for creating an enhanced feeling of comfort and texture in a bedroom.
O’Donnell goes on to say, ‘densely patterned wallpapers and fabrics, nubbly wools, brushed fringes – textures will abound in 2024. Anything that beckons us to reach out and touch it, that feels good against our skin, will be top of our list.’
main bedroom in 2024 then blue – in all its variations – could be the solution.
In our round-up of the 2024’s Colors of the Year from some of our favorite paint brands, beautiful blue shades dominated the selection for upcoming paint trends, so expect to see a big rise in blue bedroom ideas across the home in 2024.
7. Layer your bedroom to perfection
Bedroom trends in 2024 are all about layering – whether that’s tonal variations of color on different surfaces, a mix of patterns that playfully explore a particular palette or a dynamic blend of textures. Two or three variations of each is enough to develop a richly pleasing space that is the last thing you see at night and the first thing the next day.
8. Supersize your headboard
Grand, super-sized headboard ideas have been a thing for a while now but the style is evolving for 2024. Colorful matt patterns have replaced glossy monotonal textures and shapes have become more complex. The rectangle has been superseded by curves and free-form asymmetrical pieces that are almost pieces of art in their own right. Find an upholsterer with headboard experience and discuss your ideas for shapes, sizes and fabrics before you make the order.
‘With the rise of the boutique hotel and its trending look in residential design, the headboard has become a brilliant focal point in bedroom decor. Look to the Firmdale Hotels for inspiration on using brave color and pattern, and have fun coordinating your headboard with a wallpaper or throw. Don’t be afraid to choose a more outlandish style, as this only adds more character,’ says designer, Martin Waller from Andrew Martin.
decorating with art will always win in helping to make a room feel fully finished and more personal. A favorite artwork can be a classic starting point for a bedroom scheme. Make this your color cue – experiment with the colors used, select two or three, then take it from there.
As well as beautiful artworks, accessories such as houseplants, decorative ornaments, books and magazines can work wonderfully to bring a sense of personality to a bedroom.
10. Have confidence when it comes to color
Getting the color right in a bedroom can be a tricky business. Even with all their experience, it can take time for professionals to make a decision. There is a lot to consider – the size and shape of the space, the available natural light and its direction, who it is for, etc.
However, many of us are becoming more confident with color trends in our spaces, moving away from simple, neutral palettes in favor of shades with more depth and personality. For 2024 bedroom trends, embrace shades that bring you joy and work in effortless harmony with your personal style.
Emma Deterding, founder and creative director of Kelling Designs says, ‘where previously muted, neutral bedrooms have been popular, we are now seeing a huge move away from minimalist bedroom schemes, with clients being more daring with design choices. From statement wallpaper and creative wall finishes, such as polished plaster, through to bold and colorful fabrics and bed linen, clients want to inject personality into their homes, and this is no different in the bedroom.’
11. Put bedroom lighting at the forefront
For bedroom lighting ideas, different levels and types of lighting are key to switching the mood from practical – getting ready for work, say – to soothing and relaxing – when reading before going to sleep, for example.
Lighting is also something that needs to be considered when choosing colors – the right lighting can transform a room from cold to warm in an instant.
Sarah Barker from Vanrenen GW Designs thinks about functionality as well as aesthetics when selecting the right lighting for a bedroom. ‘Lighting needs to be low and atmospheric but it is important to be able to read. I am not so keen on overhead lights in bedrooms so we often use small wall lights next to the bed for additional attractive light.’
When exploring bedroom lighting trends for this year, remember, a mix of layered lighting will always create a successful lighting scheme.
12. Bring the outside in
The natural world will always be a timeless influence on interior design, with green bedroom ideas remaining one of the most popular choices for homes of all ages and styles.
For a beautiful, indoor-outdoor natural bedroom scheme, complement shades of green with warming wood tones, and other natural materials such as wool and stone, or bring in beautiful floral and botanical motifs – and plenty of houseplants and flowers.
Interior designer, Peak Petersen, design principal at Hoedemaker Pfeiffer supports this and says, ‘earth tones will reign supreme in 2024, especially for bedroom trends. Soft greens, such as Farrow & Ball – Card Room Green, are perfect for a bedroom.’
Farrow & Ball, Joa Studholme says, ‘we have moved towards the warmer tones of nature, like deep reddish browns and terracotta, which are strong and subdued but achingly fashionable. Incredibly chic by day and cozy by night, they bring a grounded but luxurious atmosphere in a bedroom that is thought-provoking as well as soothing, particularly when paired with other hues found in the natural world.
‘We crave warm tones that will enrich our homes and create cozy sanctuaries away from the outside world. Luxurious colors like red can be added to the most neutral of palettes by using them in the rooms we use at the end of the day, when we most want to relax and be comforted.’
Natasha Bradley, Lick Home’s director of interior design and color psychologist also says, ‘we have seen a huge trend in colors that make your bedroom a calm and comforting space that you can come to after the working day. As more people look to finding a balance between work and home life. These restful colors include both blue and green, and will work with a larger palette of colors influenced by the beauty of the natural world.’
Recipes for Decorating and How to Decorate, it’s no surprise that Joa Studholme knows Farrow & Ball’s palette and finishes inside and out. Joa has been with the brand or over 25 years – in that time, she’s developed color ranges and consulted on design projects all over the world, as well as helping countless color consultancy customers to transform their homes.
luxury bedding for our homes.
We spend so much time in our beds – nearly half of are lives – so it is crucial to invest in the right bedding, ensuring that your body is supported and comfortable and you feel fully relaxed and cozy.
‘There’s definitely a move towards relaxed bedding and comfy sheets,’ says Gemma Gordon Duff from Gordon Duff & Linton. ‘Linen, organic bedding and chunky wool throws are hugely popular right now and add to that feeling of sanctuary.’
Is gray still in style for bedrooms in 2024?
Gray bedroom ideas are still incredibly popular, but as we spend more and more time in our home, we have started experimenting with warmer neutrals, especially in the bedroom.
According to designer Tiffany Duggan, gray has very much been and gone, ‘we love color and a fully gray palette has never really been our thing. We do love neutrals too but err towards warmer colors such as soft buttery whites, bones and plaster hued nudes. I think gray based greens and blues are lovely and a perfect foil to brighter more impactful patterns and colors but the cool, commercial grays of the last decade do seem to be fading in popularity.’
On the other hand, ‘decorating with gray will always be in style because there are so many easy gray tones to work with,’ says Natasha Bradley from Lick. ‘They allow you a base shade that you can then bring other shades such as greens and blues in too.
Choosing the right grays for your home is really important as you can end up falling into a trap where the gray hue you have chosen ends up making your home feel dull and lifeless. When in reality the right shade of gray can make a space feel warm and sophisticated. Choosing a gray hue with a warm undertone of soft green can bring character and color into your home.’
We explore, is gray still on trend, in a separate piece.
If you’ve been inspired by these bedroom trends but want to ensure that you incorporate them in the right way to create a truly enduring design, we explore how to create a timeless bedroom in our dedicated feature.

Manifestation practices—or rather, the routines and rituals you can use to turn your thoughts into reality—can luckily be done anywhere. But as someone who has a soft spot for interiors and is hyper-aware of her surroundings (I am a home and living writer after all!), I believe that your living space plays a crucial part in supporting your dreams. Whether you live in a tiny dorm room or your very own dream home, your environment can help keep you focused, calm, and positive—which is key to achieving your goals.
To learn more about the link between our homes and manifestation, I chatted with manifestation expert Haley Hoffman Smith, and her tips are sure to get your creative ideas flowing. If you’re ready to level up your living space, here’s how to make sure your home supports your ideal lifestyle and the best version of you.
1. Start with gratitude and appreciation.
“You can manifest anywhere at any time, and so much of it is about appreciating where you are,” Hoffman Smith said. Practicing gratitude for what you already have is a huge part of manifestation, and if you’re struggling with where to begin, start with the roof over your head. Even if you’re not living in your dream home (yet!), focus on the things you love about your current space and express your appreciation for them. Whether you simply look around your space and make mental notes or write your thoughts down in a journal, having gratitude for your current home will help you stay positive and uplifted.
Hoffman Smith, for instance, moved into her dream New York City apartment a few years ago, but before that, she was living in a modest home in Colorado. “I focused so much on what I appreciated in that home and the fact that I had a home and a front door and that it provided safety and comfort,” Hoffman Smith said. Focusing on the positive attributes of your surroundings will help you stay in a high vibrational state, or in a state of contentment and peace, which makes you a magnet for whatever it is that you desire. As Esther Hicks, another manifestation expert, famously says, “As you think, you vibrate. As you vibrate, you attract.”
2. Know what your vision is, and keep it in sight.
Vision boards are a go-to practice for manifestation. While you can easily use your vision board as a phone background or laptop wallpaper, strategically placing images and positive affirmations around your home is another sneaky way to keep your vision in front of you. Consider displaying reminders of your vision on your fridge, the bathroom mirror, or your coffee table. “What matters most is having them someplace where you’ll see them all the time,” Hoffman Smith said.
For example, Hoffman Smith decorated her coffee table with a book on the Amalfi Coast, one of her favorite travel destinations. “It’s nice to be able to flip it open to a page and have it be like a vision board on my coffee table,” she said. This is great advice if you have a dream destination you’d like to visit—in addition to a coffee table book, you could also frame pictures of places on your bucket list.
Other easy ways to keep your vision in sight include placing sticky notes with positive affirmations around your home or using everyday items that remind you of your dreams. Hoffman Smith also has a collection of coffee mugs that all reflect things that make her happy. If you’re trying to manifest something specific (like a new job or a dream vacation), find a mug that has a design or words that relate to that goal and can help you imagine that it’s already a reality.
3. Maximize the space you have by keeping it tidy.
A clean, clutter-free home can help you stay focused and at ease as you work toward your goals. Even if your current space is less than ideal, keeping it tidy will help make the most of the space so it can best support your dream lifestyle. If there’s a room in your home that feels off even after cleaning and organizing, however, Hoffman Smith recommends rearranging the furniture. “If you’re about to embark on a new chapter of your life, or if the energy is just stagnant, shifting around the placements of certain things can really help,” she said. Keep rearranging until your space feels right.
4. Fill your home with things you love.
Additionally, be sure your home includes items that reflect your desires and passions. Adding beauty, like flowers for your kitchen table or art that inspires you, can have a big effect on your mood and make you feel like you’re already living your best life. For Hoffman Smith, seasonal decor helps her add joy to her space. “Changing things up with the seasons can make it feel really cozy,” she said. Consider this your sign to light a candle or hang those twinkly lights if those things make you happy. At the end of the day, manifestation is about keeping your vibration high, so be sure to sprinkle items throughout your space that bring you joy, no matter how small.
5. Set up your home for your morning and nighttime routines.
“Manifesting really comes down to the routines we do, such as meditation, gratitude, and journaling,” Hoffman Smith said, “and having a space for each in your home can help it become a ritual that you get used to and can look forward to.” Whatever you want your morning and evening routines to look like, create a dedicated space that supports those activities. If you like to start each day by journaling while you sip your morning tea, place your journal and a pen near your tea kettle and mugs. If you want to meditate each night before bed, outfit your bedroom with soft lighting and a meditation pillow. Creating the space for the routine will make it that much easier to settle into the habit, Hoffman Smith said.
6. Prepare your space for your ideal lifestyle.
Even if you don’t feel like you’re living your dream life yet, you can prepare your space for those dreams to become a reality. Does your future self like to host dinner parties? Spruce up your dining area, tidy up your kitchen, and gather up a few recipes you’d like to prepare for friends or family. Does your future self have a consistent meditation practice? Create a cozy meditation corner with a floor cushion and a small table for candles or an essential oil diffuser. By creating space for your goals, you can prepare yourself for all of the abundance that is no doubt already on its way to you.

Breaking away from tradition is a good thing.
In the ever-evolving world of interior design, trends and pop culture influences come and go, all leaving unique imprints on the aesthetic landscape of homes and spaces. Following the subtly modern look of midcentury modern design, the latter part of the 20th century witnessed the rise of postmodernism, a movement that revolutionized the way we approach and perceive interior spaces.
Postmodern interior design is a captivating blend of creativity, irreverence and a departure from the strict principles of previous design philosophies. In this article, we delve into postmodern design, exploring its defining features, highlights and the lively spirit that sets it apart from other styles.
The essence of postmodern interior design
Postmodernism, in its essence, is a departure from the strict principles and uniformity of modernism. Emerging in the latter half of the 20th century, as a reaction against the perceived rigidity of modern design, postmodernism celebrates diversity, eclecticism and a playful engagement with historical design elements. In the realm of interior design, this is better translated into a departure from the clean lines and minimalism of midcentury modernism. Postmodern interiors are a celebration of contrast, embracing a mix of styles, eras and cultural influences.
Postmodern design is a rebellion against the notion that there’s a single, correct way to design spaces. It challenges the idea that form should always follow function, as popularized by the midcentury. Instead, postmodern interiors embody a sense of freedom, allowing for a rich tapestry of styles, colors, textures and influences to coexist harmoniously.
Eye-catching wallpapers and playful patterns
One of the defining features of postmodern interior design is the vibrant and bold use of wallpapers. Unlike the muted tones and subtle patterns of midcentury modern interiors, postmodern spaces often feature eye-catching, bright wallpapers that serve as a statement piece in the room. These wallpapers can range from geometric patterns to combinations of natural and retro shades, injecting a sense of playfulness and personality into the space.
The use of playful patterns extends beyond wallpapers to upholstery, curtains and even flooring. Postmodern interiors revel in mixing and matching patterns, creating a dynamic visual experience that captures attention and adds a layer of complexity to room design. This departure from the monochromatic and restrained palettes of the past is a testament to postmodernism’s embrace of eclecticism and the rejection of design norms.
The wallpaper becomes not just a background but an integral part of the design style, setting the stage for the eclectic and lively atmosphere that defines postmodern interiors. It’s a departure from the notion that walls are neutral backdrops, inviting inhabitants and visitors alike to engage with the space on a visual and emotional level.
Artistic statements
While midcentury modern design often favored neutral color palettes and understated elegance, postmodern interiors take a vibrant approach with pops of bold colors, especially in seating arrangements. Sofas, chairs and ottomans become not just functional pieces but artistic statements in themselves. The use of bold and contrasting colors adds energy and vitality to the space, creating a lively atmosphere that encourages self-expression and creativity.
In postmodern interior design, seating goes beyond comfort and functionality; it becomes a means of expressing individuality and breaking away from the conventions of the past. This departure from the subdued color schemes of previous design movements reflects the postmodern belief that design should be personal, expressive and capable of challenging established norms.
The strategic placement of colorful seating becomes a visual language, telling a story of vibrancy and breaking away from the monotonous. It signifies a shift away from subdued hues, embracing vibrant and bold opaque colors.
Unique takes on classic design elements
One of the most intriguing postmodern design elements is its unconventional ideas and irreverent take on classic design elements from previous centuries. Instead of adhering strictly to historical styles, postmodernism borrows elements from various periods and playfully remixes them. This approach results in spaces that feel both familiar and futuristic, creating a sense of timelessness while challenging traditional notions of design.
For instance, postmodern interiors might feature classical columns alongside modern furniture, or a Baroque-inspired mirror complimented with contemporary art. This blending of styles and eras creates a dedication to design evolution, where the past is preserved as well as reinterpreted. It is a form of design rebellion that challenges the notion of the linear progression of styles and embraces a more fluid and dynamic approach to aesthetics.
Postmodernism redefines the relationship with history, treating it as a playground rather than a rulebook. Classic elements are utilized as building blocks for a new visual design language that is both familiar and refreshing.
The importance of individual expression
At the heart of postmodern interior design is the celebration of individual expression. Unlike the more formulaic nature of previous design movements, postmodernism encourages designers to embrace their unique tastes and preferences. This freedom is evident in the diverse range of materials, textures and colors used in postmodern interiors.
From sleek metals and glass to warm woods and plush fabrics, postmodern spaces thrive on the combination of materials, creating a rich sensory experience. This emphasis on individual expression extends to the inclusion of personal artifacts, vintage finds and quirky accessories that add a layer of character to the space. The result is a home that reflects personality and interests, telling a story of one’s life.
Individual expression is arguably the largest guiding principle in postmodern design, inviting people to curate their spaces with elements that resonate with them personally. The eclectic mix of materials and personal artifacts creates a narrative of the inhabitants’ journey, turning the home into a canvas that tells a story.
Postmodern pioneers
Influential designers in this movement embraced eclecticism, experimentation and a playful blend of styles. Michael Graves, a celebrated architect, and designer, is renowned for his postmodern contributions, infusing everyday objects with whimsical and symbolic elements. Ettore Sottsass, the visionary behind the Memphis Group, disrupted the design landscape with vibrant colors, bold patterns and unconventional shapes. Their innovative approaches continue to inspire, shaping the contemporary design landscape with a legacy that transcends the boundaries of time and tradition.
Postmodernism interior design: A celebration of individuality
In the wake of midcentury modernism, postmodern interior design emerged as a vibrant and eclectic movement that celebrated diversity, individual expression and a playful departure from design norms. With its bright wallpapers, pops of color in seating and irreverent takes on classic design elements, postmodernism transformed interiors into dynamic canvases of self-expression.
As we continue to explore and evolve in the realm of interior design, postmodernism stands as a testament to the power of creativity and the rejection of rigid design principles. It encourages us to embrace the unexpected, mix styles with confidence and create spaces that tell our unique stories. In a world where individuality is increasingly valued, postmodern interior design remains an inspiring chapter in the ongoing narrative of design evolution.
Whether you’re drawn to the bold patterns, vibrant colors or blends of styles, postmodern design invites you to break free from the ordinary and celebrate the diversity that makes each space, and each individual, truly unique. New York – S. Lichtenberg, a leading producer of window treatments, is turbocharging its recent expansion into other categories under a new licensing agreement.
The company has signed a deal with Egypt Sherrod – the award-winning HGTV star, interior designer and real estate expert – who is expanding her foray into home décor under her consumer brand, Indigo Road by Egypt Sherrod.
The home textiles company will design, develop and distribute fashion bedding, throws, decorative pillows, window treatments, shower curtains and accessories for the brand. Forthcoming additions will include bath and table linens.
Last fall, Lichtenberg unveiled its first collections of bath products and table linens, leveraging its strength in the replenishment business as well as design. The new collaboration will debut at New York Home Fashions Market in March.
“The Indigo Road collection is where comfort and luxury align. It embodies the idea that everyone deserves access to, luxurious home decor,” said Sherrod. “This collection pulls from my own Native American and Eritrean roots, and we strive to create pieces that interweave all this richness. From texture to print work, Indigo Road echoes the refined beauty of the natural world and empowers others to tell their own stories through interior design.”
The Indigo Road by Egypt Sherrod product portfolio currently includes wallpaper, accent furniture and décor pieces.

“For two luxury developments in Washington, DC, we are drafting spectacular indoor and outdoor movie areas, rooftop pools and co-working lounges with private booths overlooking the main open lounge. If you create magical spaces with character, Wi-Fi and enough outlets for charging, people will come. Similarly, we’re working on a Beach Club and residences in Naples, Florida, where the developer has asked for a full-size bar to be added. Pre-pandemic this would have been unusual, but now it’s a sought-after element in designing spaces for a certain lifestyle.” — Winston Kong, Champalimaud Design

Home decor is a manifestation of personal style, and 2024’s interior design trends provide even more ways to express your point of view—boldly.
The accent walls and mid-century modern furniture that ruled 2023’s interior design trends aren’t disappearing entirely. But in the upcoming year, we can say goodbye to standard design rules and all-minimal-everything. Embrace clashing patterns, chrome counters, ultra-luxurious materials, and maximalism. Whether that means trading in beige soft sheets for a Barbiecore pink bedding set, or adding bow-adorned wallpaper to your kitchen a lá Sandy Liang, nothing is off-limits in 2024.
Like a fun pair of heels or sparkly party dress, 2024’s home trends are all about embracing creativity and fun. With expert input from interior designers and trend predictors, explore the five most popular interior design trends of 2024 that will help you express your individuality through your space.
2024 Interior Design Trend: Kitschy Kitchens
Gone are the days of clean marble and white walls in the kitchen. In 2024, we can expect to see more personality, color, and spunk in this essential area.
“We’re going to say goodbye to farmhouse kitchens, and hello to Kitschy Kitchens, or what we like to call ‘Kitschens,’” says Pinterest global trends and insight lead Sydney Stanback. “A way that people can tap into this trend is through incorporating thrifted finds, vintage appliances and eye-jarring pops of paint into their kitchen designs and cooking areas.”
2024 Interior Design Trend: Plenty of Patterns
Clean white walls are on their way out. “Having languished in the realm of neutrality for what feels like an eternity, we’ve witnessed the rise and subsequent demise of farmhouse, mid-century modern, and the all-encompassing minimalism craze. The universal aesthetic is teetering on the edge of ‘been there, done that,’” says Danielle Walish, Havely’s VP of merchandising and product design. “People are craving homes with character, personality, and a bit of oomph–a bold departure from the subdued styling that has held sway for too long.” Now, it’s time for a pattern on pattern (on pattern) renaissance.
“We’re not just talking about a small print here and there,” Walish elaborates. “It’s all about mixing it up–upholstery, textiles, wallpaper and beyond. From classic stripes to whimsical florals, modern motifs to organic botanicals. It’s all about making a statement.”
2024 Interior Design Trend: Master Metals
First chrome metallics came for statement earrings, then they came for home interiors. In 2024, metallic hues will enter living spaces in a new, big way.
“A trend that we’ve been seeing pop up recently, specifically within the fashion space–thanks to a certain very iconic artist who was on tour this summer–is cool silver tones. And cool silver tones and bold chrome will continue to grow in 2024, but will also evolve into the home category,” Pinterest’s Stanbuck says. “People trade in their trusty neutrals for something a bit more hardcore. We especially see that Gen Z and Millennials on Pinterest are driving this heavy metal aesthetic.” Aluminum accents are a shortcut to bring the shiny trend into home decor.
2024 Interior Design Trend: Saturated Spaces
Whether you want a pop of pink or a moody sitting room, 2024 is all about accessorizing with color. “From rich blacks and sultry navies to more lively hues of blues, greens, and even pinks, the color trends of 2024 advocate for a daring approach,” says Havenly design editor Heather Goerzen. “Excitingly, we’re observing a refreshing pushback against the ubiquitous all-white aesthetic. Whether through the application of monochromatic paints or the embrace of deep, saturated color schemes, color in all its glorious shades is reclaiming the spotlight.”
The expert notes that the trend manifests everywhere from painted alcoves and striking wallpapers to deep wood tones and evocative upholstery. “If ever there was a moment to unleash your color perspective,” Goerzen says, “it’s now.”
2024 Interior Design Trend: Updated Luxe Materials
Quiet luxury was never just about fashion; it also crept into the home. “A year ago, everything, everywhere, was light-washed oak, calacutta marble, and matte accents,” Havenly VP of creative and design Shelby Girard reflects. “At first, this felt like such a refreshing scene–it was simultaneously calm and inspiring, collected and effortless. However, with such widespread adoption, particularly with new builds, the aesthetic began to feel a little…expected.” That’s why, in 2024, we’re seeing a return to luxurious materials of yore.
“As traditional design is once again taking center stage, we’ve seen a backlash against the usual materials and a desire to seek out elements that in and of themselves are more unique, dramatic, and notable,” Girard explains. “Think richly veined marbles in a range of striking colors, lush velvets with added dimension, crystal chandeliers for a hint of glamour, dark wood tones that speak to heritage, and un-lacquered hardware for a lovely patina.”

The Mickey Mouse-shaped topiaries in front of Kelsey Hermanson’s house are the first hint at what visitors will find inside.
“You know how when you’re walking through a Disney park, and you have the option to go to Tomorrowland or to Fantasyland, and you have these different worlds that you get to sort of walk through and be in?” said Ms. Hermanson, 37. “That’s kind of how our house is.”
That is to say, each room in Ms. Hermanson’s 3,300-square-foot Seattle home has its own Disney-inspired theme.
The stairwell, for instance, pays tribute to “Peter Pan” with star-shaped pendant lighting fixtures, vintage décor on the windowsill that recalls Captain Hook’s galleon and wall decals of Wendy, her siblings and Peter scaling the wall.
warm hospitality — and so on and so forth. “Our house is not subtle by any stretch of the word,” said Ms. Hermanson, a stay-at-home mom and content creator, of the home she shares with her husband, Eric, and two children. “But I think the styling is a little bit more elegant.” That is to say, the Disney characters aren’t always so obvious in her rooms and she doesn’t plaster her home in merchandise.
The desire to take home a piece of the Walt Disney Company, which marks its 100th anniversary on Oct. 16, goes back to the company’s earliest days. Walt Disney himself began selling Disney merchandise in the late 1920s and Disney memorabilia, like an original Space Mountain vehicle which sold at auction for $40,000, can garner high bids.
partnerships with Ruggable and the wallpaper manufacturer Sanderson. For some grown-up Disney evangelists (also known as “Disney adults”), it’s not enough to pepper in a few Donald and Mickey tchotchkes — they want the whole house swathed in Disney décor.
Part of Disney décor’s prevalence is its success on social media. On TikTok, for example, the hashtag “Disney home décor” has more than 42 million views and “Disney home” has over 275 million. Ms. Hermanson grew her Instagram following of more than 150,000 by sharing photos and videos of her rooms and her D.I.Y. projects.
Though Ms. Hermanson does earn some income from occasional sponsored posts (not for Disney) and affiliate links, she maintains that her designs are for her enjoyment first. “If social media went away tomorrow, I’d still be happy and be like, ‘Well, I’m so glad I was able to bring my little idea to so many people,’” Ms. Hermanson said. “I’ll probably be 80 years old and still decorating.”
Ginny Phillips, a blogger in Nashville, takes cues from Disney’s parks with a dopamine décor twist. “It’s just that super happy, bright, rainbow explosion,” said Ms. Phillips, 39. “I really think that it does boost my mood.” She shares her house with her husband and three children (all of whom, she said, are happily onboard with the Disney-inspired décor).
step-by-step tutorial, and people are still, almost four years later, recreating that,” she said. A gallery wall of Disney artwork sits opposite the hallway.
In her office, Ms. Phillips painted a rainbow version of the Spaceship Earth design, and incorporated retro accents like a burnt orange sofa set against a backdrop of rainbow-hued wooden planks and a monorail print. “The parks are just so, so important to me, and there’s so much nostalgia there because I visited as a kid,” Ms. Phillips said. “But then also my kids have grown up there.”
Adriane Brown, an associate professor of gender, sexuality and women’s studies at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. The “Disney renaissance” refers to the decade between 1989 to 1999 in which Disney’s animated films took on more Broadway-like qualities and sharper animation, with films like “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Tarzan.” Notably, the era produced “Beauty and the Beast” which, in 1991, became the first animated film to receive a Best Picture nomination by the Academy Awards.
experienced growth beyond the films: The brand expanded into the cruise industry, purchased Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre, and saw the Disney Channel become a central part of youth culture.
“I think the nostalgia millennials in particular have for Disney comes from growing up in a Disney-saturated media culture,” Professor Brown said. The television element was particularly instrumental in introducing children at home to Disney characters. “After Disney bought ABC in 1995, characters on ABC sitcoms — particularly the TGIF comedy block, which was popular with families — started visiting Disneyland and Disney World,” she said. “For many ’90s kids, this was their first real look inside the parks.”
Golden Oak, a development in the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., home prices start in the low millions (a 6,756-square-foot house currently on the market in the community is available for just shy of $12,000,000) and that’s not counting the décor.
Toni Sims, an interior designer in Orlando, worked on the Magic Kingdom’s design team before opening Toni Sims Design Studio and now has clients all over the country. For her clients in Golden Oak, she designs immersive Disney-themed rooms. “It’s like this challenge of, how can we give park-level-quality experience for our clients in their homes,” she said.

In the realm of interior design, luxury is not defined by exorbitant expenses. Affordable luxury is a cornerstone that reshapes homes with elegance and practicality – transcending into an opportunity to amp up spaces.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Saniya Kantawala, Principal Designer and Founder of Saniya Kantawala Design (SKD), suggested, “Paying close attention to intricate elements such as hardware, trims, and finishes significantly impacts a space’s overall aesthetics. Consider upgrading standard doorknobs to ornate alternatives or replacing plain light fixtures with visually captivating options; these simple changes can transform a room’s design.”
She highlighted, “Strategic accessorising is pivotal in achieving a sophisticated ambience within your home. Rather than overcrowding with numerous accessories, opt for high-quality pieces that command attention. A bold lighting fixture or sizable artwork can infuse an air of luxury into your space without overwhelming it. Think of a wicker headboard in the bedroom or a wallpaper or mural in the living area. This discerning approach to accessorising ensures an elegant, upscale look while maintaining balance and visual appeal.”
Given that luxury is something that is always desired when it comes to decorating one’s house yet the very thought of luxury evokes expensive interiors, Devika Khosla, Creative Director at The Works Interiors, shared, “One need not spend too much money to attain a luxurious look. With a few steps, it is easy to make a home feel luxurious without burning a hole in your pockets. Furniture is one of the main features of any space, and arranging it mindfully can be cost-efficient. Putting statement pieces can imbue a sense of opulence in any interior space by using affordable accent furniture pieces like a lounge chair, credenza, end table or side table.”
She added, “Vastness is another aspect associated with luxury, for which mirrors can be used in hallways or entrance foyers to create an illusion of space enlargement. Textiles can also be used in one’s favour when going for a luxurious touch. They can add layers to any space by using cushions and throws in various sizes and textures. Curtains can be placed to hang from the ceiling to give a loftier impression of the space. Alternatively, Sheer curtains soften the natural light and fill the space with a cosy yet luxurious warmth. Remember not to forget the rugs when going for a pocket-friendly makeover. When used in the living room, bedroom, and lounge area, they add warmth and luxury.”
Bringing her expertise to the same, Shubhra Dahiya, Partner at team3, said, “Transforming your home into a haven of affordable luxury is an artful journey achievable within budget constraints. I firmly believe that regardless of financial constraints, a home can exude elegance and character through thoughtful design choices. The first step on this path involves accessorising. Big cushions, vibrant throws or simply replacing pillow covers to complement the colour theme of your room can add a touch of panache. Maintaining a colour theme by using an element of the chosen colour in each room will give the house a common language and character. Large paintings, art pieces on an accent wall, or a combination of smaller pieces are a great opportunity to let the room be a reflection of one’s personality.”
She recommended, “Another avenue toward achieving opulent interiors without straining the budget lies in the art of repurposing. Refurbishing old tables, sofas, cupboards or chairs is a cost-efficient and innovative method for a chic interior. This blend of vintage and modern themes can be achieved by using colourful cotton fabrics, paints or heritage-tile inlays to make interesting conversation-starter pieces in your house. Embracing biophilia by adorning indoor and outdoor spaces with a variety of plants can enrich interiors and also foster a tranquil ambiance. Having potted and hanging plants in the verandah, courtyards or indoors lend a sense of calm. Plants of various sizes and textures can be chosen to match the aesthetic of your house and colour to create a reassuring atmosphere.”
In essence, it’s the subtle and cost-effective gestures that breathe life into a house, transforming it into an abode of comfort that reflects one’s personality. Through strategic accessorising, innovative repurposing and embracing biophilic design, a home can radiate luxury and refinement without burdening the budget—a testament to the art of creating affordable yet sumptuous living spaces.

With trends like “soft start” morning routines and cozy cardio becoming increasingly popular, I think it’s safe to say we’re all feeling the desire to slow down a little more and hustle a little less. Especially as the year comes to a close and we start spending more time inside, it’s only natural to want to settle into a calmer headspace, and that often starts with our homes. Enter: the blue home decor trend that’s poised to be huge in 2024.
Paint companies including Dunn-Edwards and Sherwin-Williams have selected soft, steely blues as their picks for the 2024 color of the year. According to the experts at Dunn-Edwards, these cool tones represent a collective desire to “achieve balance and tranquility in the year to come.” Similarly, Sherwin-Williams’ color of choice was intended to reflect that sense of peace found when you “slow down, take a breath, and allow the mind to clear.” All in all, it sounds like the perfect trend to try as we gear up for our annual New Year’s resolution-setting.
Interested in hopping on this tranquil trend? Read on for five ways you can incorporate blue into your home for a more calming, energizing space.
How to Try the Blue Home Decor Trend in Your Home
1. Mix and match patterns and textures
Some say there’s no such thing as too much of a good thing. When it comes to color, though, I have to disagree. Repeating the same color throughout your home without any variation will quickly make your home feel too matchy-matchy. The secret to bringing in color without going too monochromatic? Incorporate a variety of textures and patterns in your decor. Instead of adding multiples of the same solid blue pillow to your couch, for example, mix in a patterned pillow that’s accented with blue, or layer on one with a shaggy texture. This will create visual interest and prevent the room from looking too one-note while still maintaining a cohesive look.
2. Use different shades of blue
While Dunn-Edwards and Sherwin-Williams both selected muted shades of blue for their 2024 colors of the year, that doesn’t mean you can’t play around with other blue tones. Mix and match bold hues like deep navy and bright cerulean, or keep it muted with shades of slate blue and denim. Blue comes in so many different shades that you can easily create a whole palette using just this section of the color wheel. Whatever variations bring you the feeling of tranquility, lean into these shades as you refresh your home for 2024.
3. Start with small accessories
If you’re not ready to paint all your walls blue, start by dipping your toes in with subtle changes. You can’t go wrong with small accessories like candles, vases, and throw pillows to quickly and inexpensively try out a new color trend. Especially if your existing decor scheme is fairly neutral, these new pieces will fit in seamlessly.
4. Swap out artwork
One of the easiest ways to keep your home feeling fresh is to swap out your artwork. If you aren’t sure where to start, there are plenty of retailers on Etsy that sell digital prints you can download and print inexpensively yourself. Pro tip: Invest in high-quality frames that’ll make any kind of artwork look good, then find creative ways to save on the art itself.
5. Try out wallpaper
This may sound extreme when it comes to trying out a new home decor trend, but with so many peel-and-stick options on the market, it’s easier than ever to swap out your wallpaper or try it out for the first time. Wallpaper is a fun way to add texture, color, and pattern to an otherwise blank space. If you’re a renter, it’s also a great alternative to painting your walls since the paper will easily peel off when it’s time to move out.
