Film director, producer, and screenwriter Nancy Meyers made Father of the Bride, Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, The Holiday, and many more iconic flicks. But beyond making some classic and beloved films, Meyers also established a signature interior design aesthetic.

If you’re envisioning spending summer at the beach and entering your coastal grandmother era (like me), here are a few tips and tricks for a Nancy Meyers coastal summer at home.

Evie’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.

Lots of Rattan

In Meyers’ films, rattan and woven items tucked throughout the rooms give them a coastal feel: baskets, area rugs, even blinds. These are great pieces for not only the summer season but can be used throughout the year!

Target Threshold Large Natural Woven Round Basket, $30

Target Threshold Round Decorative Basket Natural, $40

Target Nuloom Alanis Jute Area Rug, $69

Target Threshold Woven Runner Rug, $100

To keep things organized and convenient, you might want to invest in this adorable wicker tray from Target. Light and easy to carry, this item will be the perfect accessory for all those summer evenings with guests.

Target Threshold Rattan Tray Light Brown, $15

Meyers must have a soft spot for dogs, as they appear in a few of her films! If you’re in need of a new bed for the family puppy, IKEA offers this extremely sweet rattan dog bed.

IKEA UTSADD Rattan Dog Bed, $89

You can’t have a coastal inspired summer without a rattan or wicker chair. Meyers clearly loves them too, as you can find these chairs situated all over her sets. The fun thing about rattan or wicker chairs is they’re extremely versatile. Perfect for the porch in summer to soak in the hydrangeas or as a cozy office chair in the winter for reading books.

Target Threshold x Studio McGee Woven Barrel Back Chair & Cushion, $280

IKEA also has an excellent selection of rattan chairs under $250. This adorable IKEA Wing chair reminds me of the rattan chairs my own grandmother had when I was small.

IKEA Risholmen Wing Chair, $239

IKEA Holmsta Armchair, $219

IKEA Agen Armchair, $99

Summer is for entertaining on the patio or near the pool, and that may mean you are in need of a rattan bar cart! (There can never be too many woven or rattan textures, in my opinion.)

Target Threshold Exmore Serving Cart Rattan, $250

Pops of Blue

Meyers is known for designing her coastal sets by mixing patterns, textures, and colors. She allows the homes to have a neutral base while simultaneously adding in patterns and bold pieces (in a way that isn’t overwhelming) to provide contrast and color. The go-to color for coastal style is blue, of course.

In Something’s Gotta Give, Nancy and her set decorator, Beth Rubino, placed floral accent pillows in Erica’s living room, as well as on the pool deck, giving the space a fresh summer feel. In the dining area, the blue and white flower chair covers add a vintage feel. If florals aren’t your thing though, an indigo stripe or a solid blue linen pillow cover might be the perfect fit.

Oxford Light Indigo Blue Organic Cotton Pillow Sham, $59

Blue Organic Laundered Linen Throw Pillow With Insert, $69

Hydrangeas

On the East Coast, the beloved hydrangea is seen all around gardens and in vases throughout the home. In Meyers’ films, she made sure to include these charming flowers. If you’re not lucky enough to have these beauties growing in your garden out back, Hobby Lobby carries a variety of colorful faux flowers! My favorite is the noted blue, but another option is the green hydrangea or the classic white. The best part is you can re-use them each summer.

Hobby Lobby Hydrangea Stem Blue, $20

Hobby Lobby Hydrangea Stem Apple Green, $11

Hobby Lobby Hydrangea Bush White, $20

The Nancy Meyers Kitchen

I love how Nancy Meyers started a trend 15 plus years ago, and it’s still going strong. Who knew she would be the one to create the desired white kitchen look and have women begging their interior designers to give their kitchen the Nancy Meyers makeover?

Marble countertops are featured throughout her films. If you don’t have any marble within your home, then there are a variety of ways to bring it into your space. In It’s Complicated, a beautiful marble tray is featured in the bathroom holding Jane’s favorite products. Another option is to add a marble canister for toothbrushes, or a marble utensil holder in your kitchen.

Pottery Barn Frost Marble Tray, $39

Target Threshold Utensil Holder, $25

Target Threshold Marble Canister, $15

Finding character pieces from a thrift shop or an antique sale can bring in a classical touch to a space as well. I always think of the way Meyers adds in copper pots or accessories to her kitchens. They’re usually hanging or situated on the stove at the ready. She also adds in various vintage decorative vessels or brass candlestick holders.

Crate And Barrel Emmett Antique Brass Candle Holder Set, $104

The Food Nanny Copper Ladle, $50

Books

Nancy Meyers knows the power of books. The large, white, built-in bookcases she adds to her movie sets or the way she tucks a bookshelf into the kitchen island like on Something’s Gotta Give creates a cozy atmosphere time and time again.

One place I find decorative books is at Goodwill. I choose hardcover books within my color palette, but I also pay attention to the topic, the aesthetic, and the photography. I prefer books on interior design, cooking, and, of course, coastal living. I also love switching out the featured books, depending on the season. All the ones I have out now are full of flowers, light summer meals, and photos that remind me of the coast.

Al Fresco: Inspired Ideas For Outdoor Living, $15

The Brooklyn Home: Modern Havens In The City, $22

Closing Thoughts

We may not all get to live on the East Coast enjoying hydrangeas in the garden or an evening walk on the beach, but these are some simple (and affordable) ways to bring the Nancy Meyers coastal feel to your own space, creating warmth and giving you the ultimate summer escape at home.

A dreamy pastel duvet cover set

The set comes with one duvet cover and two pillow shams — be sure to grab a duvet insert if you need it!

Promising review: “In the process of giving our bedroom a new makeover. Needed new bedding ASAP for our new mattress. I work 12–13 hours a night in healthcare; I’m exhausted and the last thing I want to do is shop. I took a chance with this duvet cover. Couldn’t beat the price! If I could give the quality and comfort of this duvet cover and pillowcases 10 stars, I would!! Definitely a great buy at an extremely affordable price. The quality exceeded my expectations. It is so soft, true to size and color, wrinkle-free, and has a well-made zipper at the bottom. There are also ties on the inside to keep your duvet in place. I absolutely LOVE everything about this cover. Can’t wait to get home in my bed after a long, exhausting work shift on my feet. My furbaby loves it too! Thanks Amazon for simplifying my life! ❤️” —Theresa

Now that Jeff Lewis and his talented team of designers have finished revamping Christina Ricci’s home, the actress is listing her Woodland Hills pad for sale.

Fresh off the heels of a Hollywood Houselift appearance, where Lewis brought the team in to renovate the kitchen and primary bathroom for season two of the celebrity home reno show, the 4-bedroom home popped up for sale with a $2,249,000 asking price. Mercedes “MJ” Javid with The Agency (also famous for her role on the BRAVO series Shahs of Sunset) holds the listing, but more on that in a minute.

It’s worth noting that Ricci’s house got the full Jeff Lewis treatment after its appearance on the show, with the actress commissioning the veteran interior designer to redo the rest of the house before bringing it to market.

“Jeff and I basically ended up partnering on doing the entirety of my house,” the Wednesday star told Us Magazine. “And then we’re going to look for future opportunities to flip houses together.”

While a future house-flipping show starring Christina Ricci and Jeff Lewis isn’t out of the question (and we would 100% tune in to watch it), today we’d like to focus on the project the two have already completed.

Particularly since the results are nothing short of spectacular.

Christina Ricci’s Woodland Hills home: Specs & features

Photo credit: The Luxury Level / The Agency

Originally built in 1956, the traditional home sits on a 0.28-acre lot in a private, lush enclave south of the boulevard in Woodland Hills.

Clocking in at 2,718 square feet of living space, the inviting home has 4 bedrooms (including a primary with an en-suite bathroom, walk-in closets, and a Romeo and Juliet balcony), 4 bathrooms, a home office, and quite a few outdoor amenities, including a pool and putting green.

Jeff Lewis-renovated interiors

A longtime fan of the designer’s work, Ricci was more than happy to let Jeff Lewis give her home a makeover.

“When I was approached to do this, I was really excited,” she shared when season 2 of Hollywood Houselift first aired. “I also needed a few rooms in my house redone, so it seemed like a win-win.”

But the former Flipping Out star didn’t stop at the kitchen and bathroom; he went on to renovate the entire 1956-built home, giving it a fresh, contemporary look — and a note of glam that befits its current famous owner.

The “Hollywood Houselift”-featured kitchen

The focus of the home’s appearance on the show, the kitchen has been meticulously renovated. It now features new custom cabinetry, brand-new marble countertops, custom white shelves, JennAir appliances, and a 36″ professional-style gas range.

Cleverly masked additions (meant not to intrude on the stylish design) include a built-in microwave drawer, a panel-ready dishwasher, and an under-the-counter beverage fridge.

Beautifully appointed living spaces

The open floorplan flows freely from the chef’s kitchen into the dining and living areas, with warm wood and gold accents dotting the spaces.

There’s also a formal living room with a double-sided fireplace, perfect for entertaining guests and hosting intimate gatherings.

A primary suite worthy of a Hollywood star

The primary bedroom suite is the only bedroom set on the upper level of the house, with the remaining three bedrooms being located on the lower level.

With an en-suite bathroom, walk-in closets, and doors opening to the Romeo and Juliet balcony, the bedroom is a quiet, stylish retreat that hints at its soon-to-be-former owner’s star power.

The newly-renovated floral bathroom

Undoubtedly one of the most memorable transformations in Season 2 of Hollywood Houselift, Christina’s primary bathroom is now a stylish retreat featuring bold floral wallpaper, a walk-in shower, a freestanding tub, and gold fixtures and accents throughout.

The outdoor areas are equally charming

Christina Ricci’s house isn’t just beautiful on the inside.

The freshly revamped abode has an absolutely beautiful backyard that takes full advantage of its lush Woodland Hills location, complementing the greenery with water features, cozy seating, nature pathways, and more.

Amenities include a pool, waterfall, and pathways

Enchanting pathways add another note of charm to this beautiful celebrity home.

With water features like a pool and waterfall and surrounded by lush greenery, the outdoor space is great for entertaining and relaxation alike.

There’s even a putting green

Widening the potential buyers pool for his famous client, Jeff Lewis added a putting green right outside the house, making it a great choice for golfing enthusiasts.

The house doesn’t hold the best memories for the actress

“One of the reasons I wanted to sell the house and move on was because that is the house where I lived through an abusive marriage,” Ricci told SheKnows ahead of the Hollywood Houselift season finale on Jan. 31. “I actually don’t have wonderful memories in it and living in that house was not great afterward for my emotional state.”

Ricci shared the Woodland Hills home with ex-husband James Heerdegen, whom she divorced in 2020. Following their split, the Yellowjackets actress opened up about the alleged emotional and physical abuse she endured during their 7-year marriage, making it easy to see why the Addams Family Values star doesn’t have the fondest memories of the home.

Ricci’s other homes

In 2022, Christina sold her New York townhouse, a three-story, four-bedroom home located in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, listed for $2.4 million.

Ricci also famously owned the architectural gem known as the Samuel-Novarro House — a historic Mayan Revival residence designed by Lloyd Wright, son of legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, in 1928 — selling it in 2006 for a little over $2.8 million.

A Hollywood favorite, the Los Feliz residence has been owned by several A-listers over the years, with composer Leonard Bernstein, actress Diane Keaton, and director Gary Ross all calling it home at one point.

Photo credit: The Luxury Level / The Agency

Listed with a famous real estate agent

Fitting for a property with so much star power, Ricci’s house is listed for $2,249,000 with Shahs of Sunset star Mercedes “MJ” Javid.

Beyond her reality TV fame, Mercedes is a highly accomplished real estate agent with celebrity-favorite brokerage The Agency, best known outside of the industry for their hit Netflix series Buying Beverly Hills.

She currently holds the keys to Christina Ricci’s Hollywood Houselift home — though not for long, as we’re willing to bet this listing won’t spend too much time on the market.

After a makeover, Omni Hotel & Resorts’ Select Guest loyalty program is now a spend-based rewards system, with members earning Omni Credits that can be redeemed for hotel stays.

Program members are rewarded for spending more with the brand; big spenders have access to a faster path to elite status and the chance to earn and redeem awards more quickly.

Technically, you can get all the way to its top-tier elite status level through spend alone. Want to host an event or big dinner? Why not do it when checked into the hotel to earn extra Omni Credits?

These changes make its loyalty program more in line with other major hotel loyalty programs in terms of your ability to spend to earn elite status tiers. Here’s what you can expect with the new version of the program.

How to earn Omni Credits

The new program awards Omni hotel points (known as Omni Credits) for qualifying purchases. Examples include eligible room rates, spending at onsite restaurants, bars and spas, and spend on other activities like hotel-run golf courses.

Members earn points at different rates depending on the type of purchase:

  • Per eligible room rate: Members earn 5-10 Omni Credits.

  • Per $100 of eligible purchases beyond the room: Members earn 1 Omni Credit.

The higher your elite status, the more Omni Credits you earn. Tier three and tier four levels, called Champion and Icon, earn 10 Omni Credits per night stay instead of five (like the two lower levels).

🤓Nerdy Tip

If your spending beyond the room rate doesn’t reach the minimum $100 increment, you won’t earn extra on the non-room spend. What’s more, this total does not round up. If you spend $199 on hotel dining, you’d earn only 1 Omni Credit — not 2 — unless you exceed the $200 mark.

Elite status tiers

Omni’s Select Guest loyalty program has four tiers of status: Member, Insider, Champion and Icon. Status is earned by qualifying spending with the brand and can be unlocked at $1,000, $4,000 and $8,000 spend levels, or “Tier Dollars.” Tier Dollars include most charges to the room except taxes, gratuities and fees.

Member

General members receive these benefits:

  • Free deluxe Wi-Fi.

  • Free bottled water and a welcome drink upon arrival.

  • Earn 5 Omni Credits per room night.

  • Earn 1 Omni Credit per $100 of other hotel purchases.

Insider

Once you spend at least $1,000 in Tier Dollars within the calendar year, you advance to tier 2, the Insider level.

Champion

After you spend $4,000 in Tier Dollars within the calendar year, you will level up to Champion status.

Icon

This is the top-tier level within the program and is for guests who spend at least $8,000 in Tier Dollars within the calendar year.

It’s clear that the more business you do with Omni Hotels & Resorts, the more benefits you will receive when achieving different elite status tiers.

How to redeem Omni Credits

Once you earn 100 Omni Credits (or 20 stays at the lower two status levels), you can redeem them for a night’s stay.

There are no complex award charts or dynamic pricing for your award redemptions, and Omni Credits are valid for 36 months from the date of earning.

🤓Nerdy Tip

When the program changed in January 2024, it converted existing Award Credits to Omni Credits at the rate of 1:5.

Omni Select Guest gives more rewards for frequent travelers (and spenders)

The more you spend with Omni, the faster your path to elite status and free night redemptions. These changes to the program make it more rewarding and put it more in line with other hotel loyalty programs. By spending $8,000 with the brand within a calendar year, you will reach the program’s highest elite status tier, Icon. 100 Omni Credits will net you a free award night, which can be redeemed on non-blackout dates at any of the 50+ Omni destinations in the U.S.

The growing trend of design fusion is allowing interior decor experts to design homes that are undeniably stylish yet deeply connected to our rich Indian heritage. The trick is to create a harmonious blend of timeless tradition and modern sophistication, bringing the grandeur of Indian craftsmanship into the heart of your home.

Art of fusion: Merging Indian heritage with contemporary decor for stylish home makeover (Image by Freepik)

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Prachi D Jain, Principal Architect of House Of Lines, shared, “Picture a living space adorned with intricate kantha embroidery wall hangings, a modern counterpoint to the clean lines of minimalist furniture. Or a bathroom featuring handcrafted brass fixtures that echo the artistry of bidri work, all housed within a sleek, contemporary layout. This fusion isn’t just about aesthetics.”

Now catch your favourite game on Crickit. Anytime Anywhere. Find out how

The trick is to collaborate with skilled Indian artists to create custom curated pieces that celebrate our craft traditions while meeting the needs of modern life. Prachi D Jain said, “These elements, along with sustainable materials and innovative design solutions, ensure that these homes are not only beautiful but also functional and environmentally conscious. Ultimately, the art of fusion allows us to design spaces that transcend mere living areas. They become expressions of cultural heritage, infused with warmth, authenticity, and a timeless sense of beauty. It’s an exciting approach that allows us to tell a story through design, a story that celebrates the rich tapestry of Indian culture reimagined for the modern world.”

Bringing her expertise to the same, Aakanksha Singh, Creative Director at Bridge Bharat, said, “Homes are far more than a place of residence. A space transforms around those who occupy it, and it is in homes where this becomes abundantly clear. When picturing an Indian home, some staples have become a part of the collective subconscious. Bright colours, traditional handicrafts, etc once seen as the default are being pushed aside for an increased push towards modernism and uniformity.”

She opined, “It is here where we can find inspiration from cultural practices from all over the subcontinent that do more than just beautify a home, they tell a story. For instance, imagine the clean lines of a modern apartment punctuated by a vibrant Warli painting depicting a bustling harvest scene—something so foreign to the working urban class of India yet undeniably a part of our very DNA. Or perhaps a Madhubani artwork, bursting with intricate floral motifs, graces a minimalist living room breaking the sterile lengths of walls. Far from an aesthetic trend; it’s a powerful way to keep history alive within our homes and connect with a past that can seem ever more distant. Owning and appreciating these artworks is more than just decoration. It fosters a sense of respect for the craftsmanship and traditions associated with each tribe.”

In 2007, IHG decided to give the Holiday Inn brand a makeover, elevating its standards to a level that the customer of today wants. It is spending more than $1 billion to invest in the product, which includes overhauling every single Holiday Inn around the world — a process that is still ongoing.

The result aims to make the Holiday Inn brand appeal to a new generation of travelers, with special attention given to creating a more uniform experience across both new and existing properties.

The Holiday Inn dates back to 1952 and started as a pioneer in hotel services, offering new conveniences like free parking, free stays for children, swimming pools, and extra amenities like cribs and telephones. Today, these are all expected perks, so how can the new Holiday Inn stand out from the pack?

How to know if a Holiday Inn is renovated to new standards

If you’re staying in a renovated hotel with the new Holiday Inn experience, you can expect more open spaces, new open restaurant and bar concepts, adaptable meeting space and more modern accommodations.

The new open lobby combines the restaurant, bar and hotel concierge with more coworking space to create a lounge environment where people can gather outside of their room.

These updates are in line with what other hotels in the midscale/mid-tier, full-service category are doing.

Features in the new-concept guest rooms include:

  • A welcome nook with space for keys, a hook for coats and a charging port. The brand describes this as what many people may have in their own home’s entryway.

  • Moveable desks and the ability to work with a laptop or other device in many areas of the room rather than just at a single desk.

  • Upgraded bedding.

  • Blackout shades.

  • Upgraded shower facilities.

True to its origins, kids 11 and under still eat free in Holiday Inn restaurants, assuming an accompanying adult pays for a meal.

According to IHG, 50% of its hotels in the U.S. will be renovated by 2025 — with its first new-build prototype opening early next year as well.

In Europe, the majority of Holiday Inn hotels have completed the new open-lobby renovations. Another new amenity for European Holiday Inn hotels is a to-go coffee station, featuring Starbucks.

Push aside any previous thoughts you had about the brand. IHG’s efforts are meant to upgrade the brand to be full-service offerings that cater to a variety of travelers, not just families, roadside overnights or business travelers. While Holiday Inns may not be the most expensive in each destination, they are not meant to be a budget offering.

The prospect of a dinner party prompted this mini dining room makeover. (Courtesy Marni Jameson)

The prospect of hosting a dinner party at my house filled my heart with panic. I had been wanting to update my dining room. Suddenly, I had an incentive — and a deadline.

The dinner party wasn’t my idea. A few months ago, a friend hatched a plan to auction off a dinner for eight at my house for an Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra fundraiser.

“You know how your column is At Home With Marni?” was how she framed it. “Well, this would let people actually be at home with Marni. Get it?”

Oh, I got it. If I’d known when I started writing a home design column what all I’d be getting myself into, I would have become a pet therapist. People assume I live up to my words! Before I agreed — and because no one should pay to eat my cooking — I called a chef I knew to see if he’d help. Chef Angelo Bersani generously agreed to donate his time to prepare and serve dinner, if I paid for the groceries. Done! Chef and I became a package deal on the auction block.

I live in the real world, so redecorating does not mean tossing all my furniture and starting over. It means working with what I have and making small refinements to get, ideally, big results. The trick, however, is knowing what those small moves are. So I called Los Angeles interior designer and long-time friend Christopher Grubb for help, asking if he’d call the shots while I did the legwork, which included shopping for materials, gathering samples and coordinating workers.

With a chef and a designer on board, I could feel my lungs fully expanding, my blood pressure dropping. Over the next eight weeks, we exchanged dozens of texts, photos and a few sobbing emojis, and made the following small refinements, which yielded big results, and just might do the same for a room or two in your home:

Added lampshades: Although I had replaced the dining room’s dated light fixture a few years ago, I had not “finished” the fixture off with chandelier shades, which Grubb advised. I test drove three shade styles, ordering one of each and returning the rejects, before settling on a black tapered shade. Because black shades direct light down, not out, they can make lighting more dramatic.

Filled in the art niche: Art niches in walls can be difficult to work with, as they limit the size of art you can hang in them. The niche in my dining room’s accent wall was 5-feet square and 3-inches deep. Until recently, a large tapestry hung over the niche and covered it. But, as part of my attempt to make the space more contemporary, I sold the tapestry and now had this, uhh, hole in the wall. “Art niches just make you ask why?” said Grubb, who recommended having a drywaller fill it in.

Put up wallpaper: To make the open room feel cozier and more intimate and to distinguish the alcove  from the entryway, Grubb suggested covering the now smooth back wall and ceiling with sea-blue grasscloth, which added character and texture to the room.

Replaced mirrors: Although Grubb liked the idea of two mirrors flanking the art on the main wall, he suggested replacing the existing round ones with larger, vertical mirrors to make the room appear taller. Since we were moving toward a more transitional and less traditional look, we kept the frames simple.

Updated end chairs: Although our goal is to replace all the tapestry-covered dining chairs with more contemporary seating but keep the existing table, here we hit an impasse. I couldn’t find any chairs I liked that would also be available in time for my dinner party. Rather than compromise, I bought the chairs I wanted and accepted the fact that they wouldn’t arrive until September. Darn that supply chain. Meanwhile, I recovered the table’s two armchairs in a bold zebra-print fabric and painted the wood lacquer black. These chairs, which I wrote about a few weeks ago, are now fixtures in my living room, but for dinner parties they double as end chairs.

Added ambiance: With the new furnishings in place, all I needed to do was add the finishing touches — a fresh centerpiece of pale roses, patterned table linens, crystal and silver, candles and, of course, illustrious guests — to make the room come together like a symphony.
