Model tested: Article Nordby Sofa
The details: TK TK TK
What’s the story behind the brand?
Article, a Canadian DTC furniture company that’s been around since 2013, combines a straightforward online shopping experience with well-designed, modern pieces at reasonable prices. Along with very handsome sectionals and sleeper sofas, the brand’s stylishly designed furniture and home decor options include lounge chairs, full dining sets, bedroom furnishings, and more. And unlike traditional retailers, the Canadian brand’s offerings are only available to shop online, meaning no showrooms or storefronts to assess options in-person.
Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?
At $1499, the sofa bed is in league with comparable IKEA sleeper sofas, but the online images made it look slightly more upscale—and, crucially, sturdier, like it wouldn’t wreck a house guest’s back.
What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?
The Article Nordby sofa comes in three colorways, a denim blue and two shades of gray. (I opted for the lighter Pep Gray.)
What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?
Each version was available for delivery to my zip code within two weeks, and payment plans are available through Affirm.
What was the delivery process like?
Article offers free front door delivery for orders over $999, but the company has white-glove service options as well. For $119, they will place your furniture in the room of your choice, and for $199, they’ll also handle assembly. I opted for in-room delivery since the pull-out sofa was going to the top floor of our narrow Brooklyn brownstone, and Article made the process incredibly easy. This was key since, at 205 pounds, the Nordby is quite heavy—both pieces of the sofa bed have a steel frame and solid wood legs.
What was the assembly process like? How long did it take and how many people?
Assembly was similarly breezy, with the instructions fitting on one side of an index card. It took zero tools and two people to screw on the legs and maneuver the sleeper into place.
Is the sleeper sofa suitable for particular decor styles? If so, which?
Design-wise the Nordby is fairly innocuous. It doesn’t make a statement, it doesn’t elicit curious comments from visitors, it doesn’t pull focus from the rest of the room. It would be well suited to a minimalist, modern, Scandi-style household.
Is it durable / practical in a modern home?
The performance fabric seems quite durable—less luxury home decor and more office furniture—and there are no sharp angles or pokey pieces. I was able to convert it from sofa to bed by myself.
What are the dimensions (both regular and pullout)? How does it fit in your space when it’s not expanded versus when it is? Would it be better suited for a different type of home?
Closed, the sofa measures 33 inches tall by 87 inches wide by 35 inches deep, which feels a little ungenerous proportionally—particularly the seat depth (29.5 inches), since the back cushions are plump. When open, the mattress measures 54 inches by 72 inches. We actually prefer to keep it open—more on that below—so if you’re planning on doing the same, it might not be appropriate for a small room.

We swap out our smoothies for soups, swimsuits for sweaters, and soak up the simple joy of staying in. Now’s the time for us to tackle our reading lists alongside setting our autumnal intentions. While there are festivals to visit and outdoor adventures to embark on, this fall, I’m happy to spend the majority of my days being happy at home. And designers’ fall 2023 home decor trends predictions align perfectly with that shift inwards. Warm tones, natural textures, and fabrics that invite you into their comfy cocoon. Prepare to embrace a little timeless, organic luxury this season.

We chatted with The Citizenry team to get the scoop on the fall 2023 home decor trends that will populate our homes. From our conversation, it’s evident that a consistent tone of optimism will inspire the fabrics, furniture, and accent pieces displayed in every room. But more than that, there’s a certain sentimentality woven throughout it all. “We expect this to translate into muted, warm colors that evoke feelings of romance and beauty while also leaning into the stories behind the products and brands that they support,” notes the team.
Intimacy, warmth, and artistry all sit at the core of this prediction. Ahead, the experts explain how this shakes out in the fall 2023 home decor trends you can expect to see through the end of the year. And with the timelessness on display—beyond.
Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Sun-baked pinks and tans layer onto warm ivory and pumice tones to bring comfort to interiors this fall. We expect ivory to become the go-to shade of white, from wall colors, to bedding, to upholstered furniture. This creamy tone adds instant warmth while maintaining a neutral foundation to build a home around. We also expect warm undertones to dominate a cooler palette with sages, warm olives, and muted blues.
Expect an increased appetite for organic, natural textures—especially natural wood and bold, high-contrast stones. The closer to their raw state, the better! These components connect our interior spaces to the natural world outside and bring the joy and serenity of the outdoors in, a sentiment consumers are leaning toward.
Textured, luxurious finishes and surfaces bring warmth and interest to spaces. The cozy feel of these pieces are perfect as the days get cooler. This fall, velvet will take center stage as the biggest trend in upholstery, creating an irresistibly warm and cozy space. Plush, wool rugs will continue to trend, especially in warm neutral tones, as well as these same finishes on larger pieces such as seating.
This season, we are introducing our first custom upholstered seating collection featuring a range of performance fabrics including velvets with the goal of bringing durability to everyday elegance.
Consumers are increasing investments in high-quality materials made to last a lifetime —prioritizing a “fewer, better” mentality and leaning into sustainability more than ever. They are looking to invest in soulful, modern heirlooms prioritizing value and longevity in the products they buy.
This fall, contemporary takes on silhouettes inspired by the past will dominate furniture collections. We expect to see old-world charm reemerge with pieces reminiscent of traditional styles infused with refined European lines and modernized silhouettes. These vintage signatures will be high-quality, showcasing artisanal handiwork, and luxe fabrics in current colors will bring these pieces to life.
There’s a continued demand for pieces with subtle, softened shapes in furniture and decor. We find ourselves drawn to designs with a fluid elegance and unexpected forms as these silhouettes add a sense of serenity and calm and create inviting spaces.
Contrary, yet complementary, to the trend of subtle curves, simple gridded patterns have increased in popularity recently. These understated lines, created with texture in addition to color, add a minimal architectural element to any room and anchor the eye in an otherwise undulating environment.
Looking forward, we predict a movement toward a more collected home. Inspired by travels across continents, collections showcasing global patterns offer a more intimate relationship with the outside world. This season, we have a spotlight on Turkish kilim pillows in a range of muted tones, a step toward preserving the unique craft of Kilim weaving.

With searches for Victorian decor rising by 850% in the last month alone, it is safe to say that Victoriana is having a bit of a moment. But while Victorian clothing with its high lace collars and puffy shoulders is widely known, the era’s decor style not so much. So what is the Victorian home decor trend?
If you’re a diehard minimalist then Victorian decor is probably not going to be to your liking. The era spanning the years 1837 to 1901 is defined by a dark and moody aesthetic. It is a maximalist style of bold (but still dark) florals, patterns and colours. It might also be tied to the grandmillennial interiors trend that’s all about nostalgia and looking to our grandparents’ traditional houses for home decor ideas.
House of Hackney, a furnishing brand that sources much of its inspiration from the Victorian aesthetic.
Juliette Thomas, founder and director of interior design company, Juliettes Interiors, adds, ‘Jewel tones such as burgundy, emerald green, royal blue and rich reds exude Victorian style, whilst florals, velvet and paisley are three of the most easily recognised Victorian prints.’
Tom Revill, co-founder of Plank Hardware, chimes in, ‘The style often features heavy and intricate fabrics, like velvet and silk, in deep rich colours. These fabrics were used for draperies, upholstery and furnishings, adding a sense of luxury to the space.’
You can apply this trend to furniture too as the era favoured dark wood and ornate detailing.
‘Ornate furniture with intricate carvings, embellishments and heavy wooden elements with dark finishes are also heavily influenced by the Victorian era,’ confirms Juliette.
Steve concludes, ‘Rich Gothic detailing and architectural detail typify this era with the romance of this style still being popular today.’
But who and what should we credit with the Victorian decor’s rise in popularity? Could it be because increasingly more people embrace vintage furniture and decor styles as we’ve seen recently with the bobbin home aesthetic trend?
Tom weighs in, ‘Vintage furniture appears to be taking the design world by storm this season. The revival of retro furniture styles, driven by a wave of nostalgia, is undeniably gaining popularity and allowing people to step away from the greys and beiges that have long dominated interiors.’
’The resurgence of vintage furniture may also be in response to contemporary period dramas entering the mainstream, like Bridgerton.’
If you take to Victorian decor and wonder how to incorporate these elements into your interior, then our experts offer some home decor ideas.
‘If you’re a fan of bold pattern and texture, you can incorporate it into your design scheme in a few ways – from an ornate sofa and paisley curtains and to darker, moodier hues via your curtains or a large rug to create a statement,’ Juliette recommends.
Tom of Plank Hardware has a few more ideas, ‘You can implement this in your living space by using a dark colour scheme and painting all of your walls the same shade, including the ceiling.’
He also suggests adding brass hardware and shaker style kitchen ideas and cabinetry to your home, ‘With its warm golden hue, brass was widely used to create a variety of functional and decorative elements throughout homes during this period – brass handles, door knobs, hinges, and keyhole plates.’
‘Shaker-style cabinets are a key element in Victorian kitchens, known for their timeless and classic design. The simple, clean lines and unadorned look of Shaker cabinetry contribute to a design that can easily fit into various interior styles, from traditional to contemporary.’
We think that this dark, moody and cosy trend is perfect for the coming Autumn and Winter seasons.

Whether you’re decorating your first dorm room or giving your home a style overhaul, one of our most surprising sources for statement pieces is Urban Outfitters. From bohemian-chic rattan furniture and artful storage pieces to minimalist shelving and charming bathroom essentials, the retailer is home to some of the coolest finds for every type of interior design style.
Some of the top design trends of 2023 are also the most enduring ones. Sustainability continues to be top of mind, as natural and eco-conscious materials continue to be favored choices. We can also thank Succession for ushering in the “quiet luxury” trend, an understated high-end aesthetic spilling out of fashion wardrobes and into the rest of the home: think cozy textiles and upholstery made from plush fabrics. On the flip side, surrealist shapes and playing with scale will be on the rise as people go for Schiaparelli-esque interior style over minimalism.
Ultimately, consider designing around your own personality and lifestyle, regardless of whether or not something fits a trend. As one study recently found, homeowners are decorating their homes with “professionalization,” not “personalization,” in mind — so whether you love a lived-in look, or feel more at home in a ‘grammable hotel-like space, we suggest going with items that spark joy.
With all of that in mind, we’re sharing our favorite furniture and home decor to shop from Urban Outfitters. Whether your vibe is bohemian or modern, see 10 of our top picks for a range of styles, including some pieces on sale for up to 30 percent off.

Quiet luxury, also known as “stealth wealth,” is one of the latest trends taking fashion by storm. Now it’s entering the home space.
The minimalist aesthetic can be summed up by the phrase “money talks, wealth whispers.” Quiet luxury replaces ostentatious displays with subtle high-end staples, eschewing gaudy accents and logo prints typically associated with the upper class.
Gwyneth Paltrow channeled quiet luxury in her court case earlier this year over her skiing accident, while the conniving cast of characters on “Succession” dressed in understated, yet expensive basics by brands like Ralph Lauren, Max Mara and Loro Piana.
The versatility of quiet luxury makes it easily translatable into interior design. Here, WWD explains how to bring the trend to your home.
Rather than going for bold shades, focus on neutral tones of taupe or beige, balancing them with lighter shades like white and cream. Darker hues including navy, olive green, brown, gray and black are also synonymous with quiet luxury.

Embracing comfort is a key aspect of quiet luxury. Cozy fabrics such as linen, velvet and shearling can be incorporated in upholstery, curtains and bedding. Adding some knit blankets to your sleep and living spaces will also get the job done.
For solid surfaces, lean into stone and wood finishes. Textures such as marble, travertine, oak and timber can modernize any space while simultaneously referencing classic aspects of design.
Nothing says quiet luxury like quality investment pieces. Rather than giving into current trends, seek out furnishings that will stand the test of time. Crisp, clean lines are a focal point of this aesthetic, so leave behind any standout accents — read: gold leaf and baroque moulding.

Quiet luxury decor, much like the rest of the aesthetic, relies on simplicity. Pick out simple, abstract prints to cover your wall or accent pillows with minimalistic patterns. To up the comfort factor, opt for soft lighting.
Retailers like Restoration Hardware, CB2 and West Elm have plenty of furniture and decor options in line with the quiet luxury trend. If you want to get the quiet luxury look on a budget, home lines at Zara and H&M offer simple, yet sophisticated decor options at affordable prices.
Vintage pieces are also a great way to channel quiet luxury. Search for midcentury modern and postmodern styles to achieve a sleek look.

Whether you’ve stockpiled them over the years or are just on the hunt for an innovative way to redefine your space, rugs might be the most versatile and underused weapons in the interior design toolkit. Read on to learn how you can unlock the full potential of your rental with a little help from the lowly, humble rug.
Not all rugs are created equal. But the comfortable ones are great for repurposing into a chair or ottoman upholstery. If you’re working with a more durable fabric, think about reupholstering something like an ottoman. If the material is more comfortable and luxurious, think about applying it to a chair or barstool.
Be aware, that some fabrics will be easier to work with on a larger-scale project like this. If you’re a novice DIY-er or simply looking for a little extra guidance, make sure you know what you’re doing or reach out to someone at your local hardware store. There are also a number of YouTube videos that will help you based on the specific project you have in mind.
On a smaller scale, an old or currently unused rug can also be repurposed into a lampshade. This striking design choice will act as a statement and conversation piece. Beyond that, applying rug material to a lampshade is a practical way to dim an overbearing light. Less light will penetrate through the shade with the extra rug covering it up.
If you have a near-new rug that’s just lying around with no place to go, take on a fun DIY project and turn that rug into a matching set of placemats and coasters. Lay your rug face down and draw out your plan on the bottom beforehand. Then, you can make all of your cuts confidently and know that your finished product will turn out exactly as planned.
Note: Do not try this with an old and well-worn rug. Dinner guests may find this off-putting.
Fabric headboards have been in vogue for a while and there’s no sign of that changing anytime soon. Create your own custom headboard by repurposing a rug into a uniquely upholstered and artistically inspired headrest. What better way to sleep at night than under one of your creations?
This project, like the chair and ottoman mentioned above, may require an elevated level of handiness, but again, your local hardware store and YouTube are your best friend for these larger DIY projects.
Whether a rug is handmade, factory produced or anything in between, if you find it as aesthetically pleasing as a piece of art, you should treat it that way. Don’t be afraid to reframe the way you think about rugs. Some rugs are meant for more than the floor. Some rugs, (pause for dramatic effect) are meant to be used as art and displayed on the wall.
Large or small, there’s no limitation to the ways in which you can approach displaying your rugs as art. If you have a blank wall and a great-looking rug either lying around or awaiting in an online shopping cart, now’s the time to bring that piece of art to its full glory. Display that beautiful rug on the wall and enjoy the compliments that come your way for your design savvy and ingenuity.
Few activities align more with the principles of yoga than creating your own yoga mat. Channel your inner-DIY expert and create your own at-home yoga mat out of a lightly used or new rug. A roll-up-size rug can be a great alternative to a traditional (and expensive) yoga mat.
Because rugs absorb moisture more than the average yoga mat, it’s best to limit the use of your rug yoga mat to just yourself. That said, if you’re looking for a home yoga mat that is always ready for you when you need it, consider a rug.
Note: Regardless of the condition of the rug when you start its transformation into a yoga mat, it will be worth giving it as thorough of a clean as possible before putting it to use.
One great way to put an older rug to use is to repurpose it as a bed for your pet. Cat, dog, ferret, bunny or anything in between, it doesn’t matter. Your pet will love cozying down on something that feels like “people furniture” to them.
Do you know how your pets love scratching the things they aren’t supposed to? Use that to your advantage and create a custom scratching post for your cat out of your used carpet. Your feline friend already loves tearing into the material, so why not give them a designated place to do so? Save the rug you love now and let the cat go to town on one that has already served its purpose for you.
Regardless of the exact aesthetic, you wish to achieve, if you are looking for a change of scenery that doesn’t involve packing up and moving to a new place, consider throwing a rug at the problem. Whether you’re reupholstering a chair, creating coasters for your breakfast nook table or making a throne fit for a king for your furry friend, a simple rug can accomplish it all without asking you to break the bank.

It’s about capturing the essence of your property’s location, ensuring comfort and convenience, and adding personal touches that resonate with your guests. In this Redfin article, we dive into essential strategies to transform your short-term rental (STR) into a haven of relaxation and delight. From crafting a captivating first impression and infusing your unique personality into the design to practical tips on vacation rental maintenance and entertainment, we cover every aspect to help you excel in the competitive world of vacation rentals (VRs).
Discover how to curate spaces that resonate with the culture of your locale, whether it’s the beachy vibes of Oklahoma City or Katy, Texas. Learn from industry experts and seasoned hosts who share insights on interior design, hosting strategies, and the art of leaving lasting impressions. By the end, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and inspiration needed to create a standout vacation rental that not only delights guests but also ensures their return for unforgettable getaways and more five-star reviews.
“A significant point of pride for us in our business is the warm welcome we extend to our guests, as you only have one chance to create an outstanding initial impression. The finer details hold importance; thus, presenting guests with a welcome basket of delights conveys the message, ‘we are delighted you’re here.’ Nothing quite embodies the essence of ‘welcome’ as freshly picked flowers from our local Farmer’s Market,” suggests Carlsbad & Oceanside Airbnb Rental Property Management by Grand Welcome.
“Additionally, we offer Carlsbad Water, popcorn, exquisite chocolates, and an array of teas. This is the same manner in which you would greet your own family; and we believe guests deserve nothing less. Moreover, we furnish premium quality soaps and toiletries that resonate with the calming oceanic vibes of the area.”

“Transform your Airbnb interior design by seamlessly weaving in distinctive elements that eloquently narrate your personality and the history of the locale. Embolden your space with striking accents, such as vivid hues and captivating lighting fixtures, to amplify its allure,” Hostaway. “However, exercise caution with an all-white interior, considering the upkeep expenses it might incur. Breathe vitality into the environment through the inclusion of indoor plants, but conduct thorough research to accommodate potential guest allergies, particularly among families with children and pets.”
“When selecting upholstery materials, it’s advisable to opt for options that are easily washable. For instance, when it comes to barstools, we recommend utilizing vinyl or leather fabrics. While incorporating plants into your spaces offers numerous benefits, relying on housekeepers to maintain their vitality can pose a challenge. This is why we suggest considering artificial plants, which provide a touch of contrast while maintaining a perpetually vibrant appearance,” recommends Stay Locations.
“Complying with local occupancy restrictions, whenever applicable, offering a sofa bed serves as an excellent strategy to augment the number of occupants and significantly boost your financial returns. Introducing integrations with remote door lock apps not only reduces the host’s workload but also enhances guest security by ensuring regular code changes.”
“Part of a vacation is where you stay, so choosing an aesthetic that matches the location and why someone is visiting is important,” recommends KeyVest. “We specialize in vacation rentals along the Jersey Shore, so for our area we see a lot of beachy themes and color schemes. To get a classy look for any location, decorate with neutral colors and accent with the theme of your vacation destination.”

“In this short-term rental market, professional interior design is essential if you want to remain competitive. Premier interior and exterior design paired with professional photography and standout amenities will not only get your property a higher average daily rate and occupancy rate, but it will make a long-lasting five-star impression on your guests to garner repeat bookings,” suggests Hometeam Vacation Rentals.
“As a local investor and property manager, the initial consideration revolves around identifying your target audience,” says Nathaniel Berger from Anchor Down Real Estate. “A crucial aspect involves conceptualizing the design of your short-term rental, taking into account the distinctive attributes your property possesses, and strategizing on how to leverage them effectively. Integrate these features into your listing to create a truly unique impression and distinguish your property from the multitude of alternatives in the vicinity. It’s essential to provide something memorable that will resonate with potential renters as they sift through countless photos during their quest for the ideal property.”
“At Casa Rooms, we believe in going beyond traditional property management practices. Our partnership with Sara, a local business owner, allows us to infuse artistry into our services, offering a truly unique and immersive experience,” shares Casa Rooms. “By combining our expertise in property management with Sara’s artistic talents, we create spaces that inspire and captivate tenants and property owners alike.”

“When people go on vacation, they don’t want to have to learn a new TV system. Or have to remember their login information for any TV subscriptions they might have at home (Hulu, Peacock, etc.),” says Leah Ingram. “That’s why we’ve installed Roku TVs in all of our vacation rentals (we have two in Maine). Also, we’ve purchased subscriptions specifically for guests. Then, we include instructions in our booklet on how to log in so they can watch their favorite shows without a hassle.”
“One common pitfall I frequently observe is hosts focusing on creating picture-perfect spaces for photoshoots, often overlooking the practical livability of the home. Guests might be enticed by stunning header images but could end up disappointed if the sofa proves uncomfortable, there’s a shortage of chairs for communal dining, or the pillows don’t suit their preferences,” shares Breathe Vacation Rentals
“Furthermore, a valuable piece of advice for hosts is to infuse their unique personality into the space. Embrace items like that antique hutch stored in the basement or the eclectic art collection amassed over the years. When done thoughtfully, these elements can serve as captivating focal points, setting your listing apart from the uniform offerings.”

“Cover all the essentials in your well-equipped kitchen. Beyond providing cooking utensils and homeware, make sure to maintain a supply of basic pantry staples like salt, sugar, olive oil, and coffee. This added convenience is sure to be appreciated by your guests,” recommends Palm Springs Airbnb Vacation Rental Property Management by Grand Welcome.
“Go the extra mile by offering abundant linens for the entirety of your guests’ stay. Alongside fitting each room with fresh sheets, consider placing an additional set of properly sized sheets, pillowcases, and towels in every room. Your meticulous organization will save guests from the hassle of searching for essentials.
Design your property to cater to both your needs and those of your guests. Dedicate a portion of the home to private, secure storage for the homeowner. Utilizing a locked safe allows for the safeguarding of valuables and important documents, while also providing a discreet place to store maintenance and cleaning equipment.
Create the desired ambiance with a variety of lighting options for each guest. Maximize the use of natural light to create an inviting atmosphere. Overhead lighting presents an opportunity to make a statement with distinctive fixtures that highlight distinct living areas, such as a chandelier above a dining table. Floor-level lamps offer softer lighting for moments of relaxation.”
“Always stay at least one night in your own rental and do everything. Cook, bathe, shower… What would make it better? What finishing touches would add “thoughtful host” to the guest’s review? For inspiration, look through Architectural Digest or on Pinterest for design ideas to steer your purchases. Steal ideas, take risks, and have fun,” suggests the Walker Sisters.
“If you are in a beachy town, that’s probably a reason visitors are coming there, use light fabrics and natural colors to create a soft and airy feel. If you are in a big city, get inspired by the culture and neighborhood around you. Lean in, or go in an opposite direction – either way, your guests will enjoy a specific and curated vibe.”

“I believe what makes a VR design really powerful is the subtleties and the small details. It’s hard to pinpoint just one thing, but my recommendations would be to do something bold and beautiful. If you make a beautiful Airbnb, you will always be booked,” Stay Flourish says.
“For example, amber bottles with premium soap, high quality sheets, lucious plants, and fixtures that accentuate natural light. These seemingly small touches evoke a sense of personal touch and care. You didn’t just go for baseline functionality or cut corners to ‘just get by.’ You put intention into every nook and cranny as if it were your own home.”

“A significant amount of effort goes into designing and maintaining vacation rentals. Our foremost objective when designing and furnishing vacation rentals is to create an ambiance that is consistently light, bright, and inviting,” Bluewater Vacation Rentals suggests.
“Our aim is for vacationers to experience a true home away from home, setting vacation rentals apart from hotels. Each property boasts a unique appearance while embodying a California casual aesthetic that appeals to visitors seeking the San Diego experience.
Furnishing vacation rentals demands a ‘less is more’ approach. Prioritize quality over quantity, offering essential amenities without cluttering spaces or overspending on unnecessary items.”

Joanna Gaines took to Instagram at the weekend to announce the twenty-year anniversary celebratory event for her home and lifestyle brand, Magnolia, alongside co-founder and husband Chip Gaines.
As to be expected with Gaines’s visually-led Instagram content, the background in the video is much like the rest of her social content: full of home decor ideas and inspiration.
mid-century modern design. A style that’s seen a rise in popularity recently, with the likes of Emma Chamberlain’s LA home mastering the look, it’s a timeless style that celebrates the understated nature of design from the 1940s – ’60s era, while elevating and upgrading with more modern pieces.
The sofa shown in the video is very typical of mid-century design: low to the ground with an angular wooden frame, and complete with rich, forest-green upholstery. Whilst the sofa feels very representative of last century’s iconic design movement, we love the way that Gaines has uplifted the space with the addition of bold, modern pieces, most notably the coffee table.
Heather Humphrey, principal at interior design agency Alder and Tweed approves of Gaines’s choice of furniture, explaining: ‘This neutral living room blends modern pieces with traditional elements, creating a captivating juxtaposition that adds depth and character to the space.’
‘The interplay between sleek contemporary lines and the timeless charm of the classic design evokes a sense of intrigue and sophistication, adding personality to the room.’
marble coffee table, pictured in the video above, is a key trend piece this season, sculptural in form and to some extent a statement piece to center the living space around. Although bold and heavy, the addition of this piece offsets the sofa perfectly, ensuring the room doesn’t feel dated or too traditional.
The addition of a houseplant, in Gaines’s case a fiddle-leaf fig, brings the outdoors in and uplifts the space thanks to its rich and bright green color. When designing a room in a mid-century style, making sure to bring in plants such as this ensures the space feels bright, in comparison with the heavy, dark-toned wood that’s synonymous with the design era.
Shown above is another example of the designer’s interior styling and the use of lots of indoor greenery, this time one of the rooms in the married couple’s ‘The Castle’ project.
