Below are the top 15 picks for those who excel at humorous and dramatic roles!
1. John C. Reilly

“John C. Reilly, who even had a comedic song at the Oscars once at how he was both in Boogie Nights and Talladega Nights.”, shared one user.
One user shared, “Olivia Colman, winner of the 2013 BAFTA TV Award for Best Female Comedy Performance, and Olivia Colman, winner of the 2013 BAFTA TV Award for Best [Dramatic] Supporting Actress.”
Another user replied, “Love her so much. My wife was a huge fan of Peep Show, and we thought she was so funny; then we watched Broadchurch, which blew us away. Now she’s a movie star, and I couldn’t be happier for her.”
3. Bryan Cranston

One user posted, “Bryan Cranston. Amazing in Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad. Simply one of the best.”
Another user commented, “I wonder why I had to scroll down that far. He played both one of the funniest and most threatening roles on TV. There were a few interviews where he slipped into Heisenberg conversation, and it’s fascinating how he can transition flawlessly from funny answers to being hyper-serious and scary.”
4. Rose Byrne

“Rose Byrne.”, posted by one user.
Another user shared, “Came to say this—she’s clearly had dramatic chops since the Damages days, but she’s also hilarious in any comedy you put her in, even if the movie itself isn’t.”
5. Steve Carell
Photo Credit: Denis Makarenko / Shutterstock.
“Steve Carrell always had that comedic actor label for the longest time for me. Even with more serious roles like in Dan in Real Life he still played it funny. But then I saw Foxcatcher, and he just DISAPPEARED into that role and was absolutely terrifying. I totally bought him as Du Pont, and despite all of the comedic roles he’s done before, it did not take me out of his monstrous performance he did one bit. Great addition!” said one user.
6. Sam Rockwell

One user mentioned, “Second him. In my experience, all his characters are likable and charismatic in some way. In The Green Mile, he was not exactly a likeable guy, but his performance was so energetic it was hard not to enjoy watching it.
Loved him in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. That was a character that felt part realistic, partly like a comedic character. Serious and humorous. Such an outstanding balance.”
7. Jeff Daniels

One Redditor stated, “Jeff Daniels.”
Another added, “Lol My Favorite Martian and Dumb and Dumber to Newsroom is so insane because it’s such an extreme contrast in terms of performances but he nails both perfectly. I think this is my favourite addition. Thank you!”
8. Robin Williams
“Robin Williams. He can break your heart, make you just about [pee] yourself laughing, then break your heart, leaving you sobbing all over again, all in the space of 3-4 minutes,” posted one user.
A Redditor added, “Surprised no one mentions Adam Scott. Significant in Severance and Step Brothers/Parks and Rec.”
Another user replied, “I was in awe at how amazing he was in Severance. I wouldn’t have bet on him being this good.”
10. David Tennant
Photo Credit: lev radin / Shutterstock.
“David Tennant. One of the most popular incarnations of Doctor Who; played the insidious Purple Man in Jessica Jones; then was fantastic in Broadchurch (alongside another worthy mention Olivia Colman) and is currently back as Crowley in Good Omens,” commented one user.
11. Emma Stone

One posted, “Emma Stone.”
Another user replied, “Great choice! I absolutely cannot wait to see her in Poor Things.”

12. John Goodman

13. Phillip Seymour Hoffman

“I’m pretty amazed everybody in this thread really forgot about Phillip Seymour Hoffman,” one user posted.
Another Redditor added, “Same, I thought he’d be close to the top. He was the first actor I thought of.”
14. Robert de Niro
One Redditor shared, “De Niro made a pretty solid transition to comedy with Analyze This and Meet the Fockers, but then it didn’t quite continue, and he made more bad comedies than good. Still, he himself can definitely do perfect comedy and is believable; just should have picked better scripts.”
15. Meryl Streep
Photo Credit: Denis Makarenko / Shutterstock
“Meryl Streep,” shared one user.
One Redditor commented, “Meryl does whatever the f- she wants because she can, and she pulls it off. Same with Helen Mirren. They’re perfect and my life goal for beautiful aging.”

13 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re in the US

Are you planning a trip to the US? Culture varies a lot between countries, even countries that share borders. So if you’re headed to the good old U. S. of A, here are a few pointers to make your travels go more smoothly!
Prime Video had a treat in store for fans of author Karen Kingsbury’s work.
It dropped all three seasons of its American faith-based family drama television series, The Baxters on March 28, giving us an extended first look at the lives of the Baxter family — and their vision board-worthy family home, which sets the stage for the drama to unfold from the very first shot.
Based on the bestselling novels by Karen Kingsbury — crowned the Queen of Christian Fiction by The New York Times — the show stars Roma Downey and Ted McGinley as Elizabeth and John Baxter, who navigate the complexities of life with their five adult children.
And since the Baxter family’s home is a key element in grounding the emotional depth of the series, we reached out to the production crew to learn more about how it was brought to life on screen.
The house is a memorable silent character from the very first episode
Although the first season focuses primarily on Kari’s (Ali Cobrin) story, the Baxters’ house takes center stage from the very first scene, when the family converges to celebrate mother Elizabeth Baxter’s (played by Roma Downey) birthday.

The Baxter residence shines from its very first moment in the spotlight. And that’s not by accident.
Production designer Rodrigo Cabral envisioned a home that mirrors John and Elizabeth’s loving, nurturing nature.
“We wanted their home to radiate warmth and tranquility—a safe haven for the family to gather, heal, and grow,” Cabral tells us.
This vision translated into cozy interiors, balanced spaces, and a decor that promotes comfort and family togetherness, making the house a cornerstone of the show’s narrative.
Design inspirations behind the scenes
The design of the Baxter home reflects the broader experiences of American families, aiming to echo their quest for happiness and balance.

“The Baxter family is a close representation of so many American families, not only in their interiors but also in their pursuit of happiness and balance,” Rodrigo Cabral shares with Fancy Pants Homes.
“We got inspired by the experiences with real families that have been part of our lives. I had some great chats with the showrunner, directors, and crew about each character’s vibe and inner world, which really helped shape our vision.”
Cabral notes that the set design was influenced by discussions about each character’s inner world and successful elements from other family dramas like This is Us. “Our goal was to create a setting that feels real and informative, yet allows the characters’ stories to unfold naturally,” he explains.
Style elements that define the interiors
When asked about the decor of the Baxters house, Cabral shares that “John and Elizabeth’s house has a traditional decor style that’s classic, warm, comforting and familiar. We used neutral tones, some warm pattern fabrics with traditional antique furniture and a lot of details like plenty of family photos to show their history and connection throughout the years.”
No attention to detail was spared in creating the sets, and special attention was given to elements that reflect the lives, beliefs, and faith of its inhabitants.
Photo credit: Prime Video / Joshua Applegate
“Some of the antique pieces help reinforce their traditional values by invoking the idea of family history and its importance like little family heirlooms in the background. And these elements are carried around throughout the rest of the house and a bit to Kari’s interior as well.”
A real home in Brentwood was used to film shots of the Baxters’ house
Underscoring the show’s commitment to authenticity, a real house in the family-friendly Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood served as filming location for The Baxters house.
Set in the San Fernando Valley area of LA, Brentwood is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and has hosted other iconic television homes, including Jay and Gloria’s house on Modern Familyand the now-iconic Banks mansion from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
This suburb is often chosen for its portrayal of upscale American family life.

Key scenes
The Baxter home provides a poignant backdrop for several key family moments. Vibrant Thanksgiving gatherings, reflective Christmas celebrations, and personal crises like Luke’s struggle with faith all take place within this family home.
With three seasons now out — and a fourth one hopefully soon to follow — we’re looking forward to seeing more heartwarming and challenging moments unfold in the loving confines of the Baxter household.

Have you ever noticed that certain people take up a new hobby, and suddenly that’s all they’ll talk about? It’s not that their personalities are actually changing, but they’re certainly adapting to the situation at hand, and maybe getting a little hyper-focused or narrow-minded about it. We’ve asked our friends on Reddit to chime in on the most common hobbies or life-changes that people adopt, and then won’t shut up about.
1. Being a Military Wife
One user shared, “Wives of military men.”
Another user added, “You know they post about how brave their ‘hubby’ is daily.”
One commenter replied, “I hate the word ‘hubby’.”
Another Redditor commented, “Can confirm. Have a cousin like this. The husband is nowhere near seeing any kind of combat. She was stationed overseas in Germany for a couple of years, and she would never leave base to do anything but loved to complain about how bored she was. [She] had zero interest in taking in anything related to German culture, food, sightseeing, etc. She was also pregnant at one point. They were stationed there and insisted US hospitals were superior to German ones. She Said she was scared to have the baby in a German hospital because the US ones were better. You would’ve thought she was in a third-world country the way she went on about Germany and how scared she was to be there. Apparently, her friends on base were also all just like this.”
2. Obsessing Over Great Britain
“My Texas high school had a British club. I’m actually a British citizen, so I tried to join. Those people were nuts. They made Doctor Who and Sherlock their whole personalities,” one user posted.
Another user commented, “This is just the BBC version of the anime club.”
One commenter replied, “On Tumblr, they were called Teaboos sometimes.”
Another Redditor posted, “When I watched the BBC version of Sherlock for the first time as a teenager, I realized with horror that my brother had based his entire personality on it. He had the same coat, the same condescending and sardonic manner, everything. The only thing he couldn’t get right was the actual genius part, so he’d mutter very intensely about subjects not deserving of that intensity and confuse everyone. He’s actually still quite difficult to have a conversation with because he has no idea how to learn things from other people—it always has to be him explaining things to you and not the other way around. Otherwise, he’ll just walk away.”
3. Being in a Relationship
One Redditor shared, “Relationships. I have friends who legit have no clue who they are without a man by their side. Their self-worth is measured strictly by the ‘quality’ of the guy willing to stand beside them.”
One user replied, “This is painfully accurate. My sister graduated med school, but my mom didn’t tell her she was proud until she brought home a bf.”
One added, “My mom was the same. It didn’t matter what I did. She only ‘stopped worrying’ when I got engaged (to a complete bad person who I would never have looked twice at if he hadn’t swooped in during a very low point, including my mother’s terminal illness). God, I’d love to go back in time for a do-over on all of that.”
4. Refusing to Change
“Being a bad person. You meet a lot of people who are like, ‘Sorry, I’m an a-. It’s just who I am’,” one user posted.
Another added, “‘I tell it like it is.’ No, you’re just tactless and have no awareness.”
However, one user replied, “As someone who was like this who did a lot of self-reflection about why I was popular and when you’re popular, people laugh at you for being a bad person sometimes, and it feels good, if enough people validate it growing up without any social consequences, you learn to think it’s fine. At most, someone will go, ‘Haha, omg, you’re such an a-‘ and roll their eyes. Eventually, you get away from the group of people who accepted your a–h-lery and made you believe it was funny and go out in the world. Being a grown a- isn’t cute, so you either lean in and think everyone is just getting too sensitive, or you realize that you have to do more than just be a bad person to get people to laugh and like you.”
5. Watching Anime
One online user shared, “Anime. I like it, but many people take it to a new level.”
Another user commented, “I knew a woman like that. She lives in cosplay, and her kids are named after anime characters. Edit: Forgot to add that she says ‘Hello, minna-san!’ all the time.”
One Redditor added, “Yeah, tbh. I’m a mega-fan, but there’s a fine line where sharing what you love drifts into projecting it everywhere. The opposite is true where your passion is censored because it’s not ‘in vogue’ or breaks normalcy, so it’s a very fine line. Don’t name your kids ‘Gendo Ikari’.”
6. Smoking
“Smoking weed,” one user shared.
Another confirmed, “Hear hear. I smoke quite a lot myself, but I absolutely can’t stand stereotypical potheads.”
One commenter added, “Same. I’m the biggest stoner I know and people are always shocked to find out even after knowing me for months.”
Another user replied, “Most of my friends smoke. I’m down to one oddball that still wants to talk about terpenes, and how well this batch was cured or not, and the subtle hints of flavor that always make him assume the strain is something different than advertised. At least that only lasts 20 mins, and then we can talk about all the movies/music/shows that were so much better in our day (we’re 40).”
7. Loving Astrology
One user posted, “Zodiac signs.”
Another replied, “‘I’m a Virgo.’ ‘No, Kelly, you are just a [terrible person]’.”
8. Acting
“Theater,” one user posted.
Another user replied, “As somebody who does his theatre, I can confirm it’s frustrating and annoying.”
9. Being a Writer
One user shared, “Being a writer—even if they barely ever write.”
Another user replied, “‘I’m working on some plot holes, okay? So what if I haven’t touched my book in, like, three weeks?’… shut up…”
“I mean, three weeks can just be a healthy break from an activity!” one Redditor added.
One commenter added, “‘Oh, I know it hurts now, but look at the bright side: You have some new material for that novel you’ve been writing. You know…the novel you’ve been workin’ on? You know the one, uh, you’ve been workin’ on for three years? You know, the novel. You got somethin’ new to write about now. You know? Maybe a main character gets into a relationship and suffers a little heartbreak? Somethin’ like what… what you’ve just been through? Draw from the real-life experience? Little, little heartbreak? You know? Work it into the story? Make the characters a little more three-dimensional. Little, uh, richer experience for the reader? Do those two hundred pages really keep the reader guessing what will happen? Some twists and turns? A little epilogue? Everybody learns that the hero’s journey isn’t always a happy one. Oh, I look forward to reading it.’—Stewie Griffin.”
10. Using Propane
One user commented, “Propane and propane accessories.”
A user added, “I tell you what.”
11. Doing Crossfit
“CrossFit,” one user shared.
Another added, “The first rule of CrossFit is, you must always talk about CrossFit…”
One commenter replied, “I know a couple that loves CrossFit. They’ve never done it personally, but they are physical therapists, and the injuries from people emphasizing rep numbers over form has been great for their bottom line.”
12. Being a Hipster
“You’ll never meet a group of more infuriating w-nkers than when you meet the people who are really into the local indie music scene…” one user posted.
Another user replied, “Amen. However, as a reformed local indie rocker, I can confidently say that the worst offenders in this category were rarely the musicians themselves. I, for one, always forgot everyone’s names and proudly told them it was because I was just terrible at being a hipster…….. OH S- F-. IM RELAPSING. HELP!”
13. Loving the Office
One user commented, “The Office!”
Another Redditor added, “Also friends.”
One commenter replied, “Which friend character are you? Which friend’s character are you? Which friend’s character are you?”
14. Owning a Tesla
“Owning a Tesla,” one user shared.
Another added, “The only thing worse than a Tesla owner is a Jeep owner.”
One Redditor said, “Some Jeep owners, yeah. I’m on my fourth one. And I have loved them all. They’ve all been stock Cherokees except my current one. An 06 GRAND Cherokee. Oh yeah, baby. It’s got a headphone jack in the dash so I can plug my phone in, f—ing plush up in that b–ch. Got four cup holders, too. And keep your underwear on. It’s got a coolant leak as well.”
15. Declaring Your Sexuality
One user commented, “I’m sure I’m gonna get a lot of hate but sexuality. Being straight or being gay is not a personality trait. It’s just one aspect of who you are.”
Another replied, “Imma upvote you now before the haters show up.”
One user added, “I hard agree, but I also try to understand that some people have been denied what they are for so long that when given the chance, they’ll go all out. Like, I’m gay and dating a trans dude. But I’ve never felt persecuted for my sexuality. He has. I’d never tell him to stop waving his flags because I know he’s been in a place where he wasn’t allowed to. *Oh. They got gold for this take. Well, that’s… Worrying”
16. Being Sarcastic
One Redditor posted, “Sarcasm.”
Another added, “I hate this. People think ‘sarcasm’ makes them come off as interesting and intelligent, but a lot of it is just low-hanging fruit jabs or just being d–chy.”
17. Loving Disney
One user commented, “Disney.”
Another added, “I’m a physician. I had a senior while doing a year of general surgery training. My senior wanted to do trauma surgery. He was petty, mean, brilliantly smart, and a complete a-h- to anybody as or less intelligent:
“The precise moment that he would show a half second of relaxation: DISNEY TO THE TENTH EXPONENT. Writing notes: Disney theme park background music. Packed Lunch: Disney-themed pasta/sandwich combos. Going out for social hour: Disney watch/scarf.
“I always wondered how this dude could look at me so vehemently and still have such a cotton Candy, whimsical core. Great doctor and surgeon, though.”
One commenter replied, “Disney adults are strange people, man. My wife is a physician, and her other physician friend is getting married this spring. She’s a bit younger than us (4-5 years) and has had the luxury of making a physician’s salary while having very little in the way of actual life expenses due to having parents who continue to pay her bills for her.
“Anyway, she tells my wife and their friend group that she’s engaged and the wedding will be in Iceland. We’re pumped because we’ve always wanted to go to Iceland, and we’re fortunate enough to be able to afford to go to the wedding if we save up. It’s a year from now, so we have time to save up and also make it like a mini vacation. So a few weeks later, she texts her friend group that Iceland is off, and they’re getting married at Disney World.
“I’ll be honest: that was a head-scratcher for my wife because none of her friends knew she was that into Disney. We think it will be at one of the resort hotels around Disney World, with some pretty cool/nice hotels. Oh no, no, no. They are getting married in front of the castle in Magic Kingdom—and here’s the best part—it can’t be during park hours, so they were given the option of it happening at 8 am or 10 pm. They chose 8 am. Might I mention they are also paying $60,000 just for the ceremony?
“I get that having a destination wedding in another country is cost-prohibitive if you want a lot of friends and family there. Iceland would have been very cool, and, for admittedly selfish reasons, we were a little bummed about it not being there. But it’s understandable.
“However, with every new detail my wife gets from the bride-to-be, it seems like it will be a pretty terrible experience. Having to pay for an overpriced hotel and getting up at the crack of dawn to get dressed up and stand in the swampy humidity of Florida so two grown adults can be married by Mickey Mouse sounds like it’s going to be a total bad show. So yeah, Disney adults are strange.”
18. Breaking Up
One user posted, “One bad breakup…”
Another user replied, “This is true. I had a friend who would not care about a girl she dated back before COVID (f—ing 2020) who did some a- [things] to her up until a few months ago. At least now she’s dating again, so we constantly hear about her new partner most of the time…”
19. Working
“Their occupation,” one user shared.
Another user replied, “‘I’m a nurse. What’s your superpower…’ merch. yuck. Sincerely, a nurse.”
One Redditor said, “This was my first thought. I hate those ridiculous things! I work with a nurse with multiple nursing-related tattoos, coffee cups, handbags, and a license plate frame. So cringe.”
20. Owning Guns
One Redditor shared, “Guns.”
Another user replied, “As a gun owner, I can’t tell you how cringeworthy this is. I own firearms myself, but it is just a hobby, and that’s it. Most of the other time, I read books, work, be a dad, or play Diablo 4. I barely bring it up unless I am around others who happen to bring it up or discuss their experiences shooting firearms or what firearms they’re going to purchase. The minute I see gun owners rocking punisher skull s- or other tacticool stuff, I play dumb and just act as if I’ve never held a gun. Those people are annoying.”

10 Celebrities Who Are Universally Disliked

People will always have preferences and something to say about celebrities. What you might love may not be the same for others. Whether it’s about their past behaviors, legal issues, or feuds with other celebrities, here is a list of celebrities people just cannot stand.
Cinema has long been a source of heated debate, especially regarding films that tried too hard to be serious and ended up just seeming pretentious. With the arrival of streaming platforms, more accessible movie-making tools and an increased ability for filmmakers to challenge the norm, recent years have seen a wave of new daring cinema—acclaimed as genius by some yet widely disliked by others.
Nowhere is this disparity in opinion more apparent than with these 20 pretentious movies. So what do you think? Are there times when lines should not be crossed regarding artistic expression, or are pushing boundaries necessary? Below are the top 20 pretentious movies shared across online:
1. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Photo Credit: François Duhamel / Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
One user posted, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. A The Holocaust and 9/11 mash-up with an autistic kid as the main character? Pure pretentious as s- Oscar bait.
“I had to read the book in high school, and the best thing I could say about it was that it provided easy pickings for annotation assignments.”
Another user added a story behind the film, “Daily reminder that the author of the book awkwardly flirted with Natalie Portman via email, thought she was as into him as he was into her, and left his wife of 10 years for her, only to be met with bemused puzzlement from Natalie.”
One user replied, “Jesus, those emails were painful to read from both of them. I can’t believe people write like that in their personal emails. He did end up dating Michelle Williams for years after his divorce, so I guess he’s got some game.”
2. Eat Pray Love
One user added, “Eat Pray Love(2010), a pretentious film based on an equally pretentious true story.”
One user replied, “So true, lol. Like I would love to just take off for a year, but unfortunately, I have to work.”
3. Crash
“Crash (2004)—simultaneously the most pretentious movie I’ve ever seen and the stupidest,” one user added.
Another user shared, “I remember seeing it when it came out and found it fairly forgettable. Then it kinda gained this reputation as ‘didn’t deserve the Oscar,’ so I watched it again recently. It tries so hard to be topical (and perhaps it was in a way), but it’s soooo over the top yet surface level at the same time with its message. There are some good performances in the movie, but that can’t save the script.”
4. The Room
One Redditor posted, “I think considering Tommy Wiseau’s intention to make a serious drama, The Room is pretentious. I know he refuted the claim that The Room was supposed to be serious. But sorry, I have severe doubts.”
One user shared, “There’s no way in h*ll that The Room was anything other than a sincere effort by Tommy to make a legitimate dark drama. Making the movie as it is, with the intention of being received as it has been, would make Tommy a comedic genius in three separate areas: writing, acting, and directing. I don’t think he is. Just like some great movies are lightning in a bottle, The Room is lightning in a bottle in the opposite direction.”
5. You People
One online user posted, “You People with Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy. The film goes out of its way to make Jonah Hill a ‘Bumbling Clueless Overly-Cautious Woke White Guy’ and Eddie Murphy a ‘Put Everyone On The Spot Overly Proud Black Man.’ NO self-respecting person (Jonah Hill’s character) would ever dig themselves into a racial awkwardness hole as often as he does. And no self-respecting person (Eddie Murphy’s character) would go out of their way to be so defensive and make Jonah Hill’s character so uncomfortable.
“If it were purely a comedy, it would have made sense to make them both so clueless, but since it was supposed to be a ‘woke’ rom-com, then they could have done well-meaning people more credit by making Jonah Hill more discerning and Eddie Murphy more gracious. Instead, both characters just reinforced stereotypes from beginning to end.”
Another user replied, “First rom-com I watched that was completely lacking both romance and comedy. To call it a movie at all is a compliment to You People and an insult to all other movies ever created.”
6. Seven Pounds
“Seven Pounds,” shared one user.
Another Redditor replied, “Or any Will Smith bazillion Oscar Bait movies.”
Another user commented, “Collateral Beauty takes the cake for me. Even the title is pretentious.”
7. Downsizing
One Redditor posted, “Downsizing. I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned this one. I sit down thinking I’m about to watch a lighthearted comedy starring Matt Damon about people who shrink themselves and get into some hijinks. Turns out. Instead, the movie’s message (pretty early in the film, too) is, ‘You can’t shrink the problems of the world, ST*PID!’ The rest of the movie was a guilt trip about lower-class poverty and environmental issues. It seriously felt like the filmmakers were scolding me. …”
One user responded, “I came here to say this. I went to the theatre to watch it because I was excited to see it. It’s a fun movie with Matt Damon and Kristin Wiig getting shrunk down like a grown-up Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
“She was barely in it, super preachy, meandering, boring, and nothing like what was advertised. Oh, and the ending was stupid, too. I shouldn’t have bothered waiting for it, but they already had $40 or so of my money. At least the snacks were ok. Probably the best part of the movie. They realized what a mess it was and pulled a bait-and-switch with the trailers as a last-ditch effort to save it. I’m still mad if you can’t tell, lol.”
8. Now You See Me

“Now You See Me … I don’t understand how people can be impressed with ‘magic tricks’ that are only possible with special effects. B-, please! I can make f- Godzilla coming out of my pocket if I can use CGI. That s- is not impressive.
“On a side note, what a waste of opportunity when they didn’t call the second movie “Now you don’t,” stated one user.
Another user added, “Also, there were zero clues for the twist. It’s just a ‘surprise this random thing happened. Now be in awe.’”
9. Tenet
One online user shared, “Given the following definition of pretentious: ‘Trying to appear or sound more important or clever than you are’
“I’ll go for Tenet. When people think of pretentious films, they tend to list arty films. But pretension just means having an unearned sense of self-regard, and Tenet has that. It’s a film that is desperate for you to think it’s clever and profound but is ultimately hollow and not half as clever as it thinks it is.
“Edit: I just remembered the main character is literally called ‘Protagonist.’ Proper pretentious first-year film student stuff.”
One user answered, “I upvoted, even though I like Tenet because I can’t argue with your logic.”
10. Bang Bus “Episode 3”

One user posted, “Bang Bus ‘Episode 3′. The premise was already in. There was nothing new about it.”
Another replied, “Is that the one where they pick up a young woman and interview her in a s- van? I’ve only seen the first 10 minutes. I can’t believe there are sequels.”
11. My Dinner With Andre
“I love the movie, but ‘My Dinner With Andre’ is pretty pretentious and self-satirizing at the same time,” one Redditor stated.
Another user replied, “If you were out to dinner and the people at the table next to you were having that conversation, your eyes would roll right out of your head and fall on your plate.”
12. Most Woody Allen Movies

One Redditor shared, “Oof, I’m gonna get hate for this, but I feel like most Woody Allen movies are pretentious …”
Another user also posted, “When I think of pretentious movies, I think of Woody Allen b- s-. Movies about making movies about New York and how cool you have to be to be famous. F- off.”
13. Garden State
“A little obvious, but Garden State. It has all the hallmarks and takes itself way too seriously.
“That being said, it’s made with a lot of heart and ambition, and I do enjoy it, but it’s just the first thing that comes to mind—from the all-white bedroom to the shirt made out of wallpaper print to literally screaming into a void.
“Well-intentioned, entertaining, endearing but ultimately a pretentious cringe fest—sorry Zach!” posted one user.
14. Birdman
One online user posted, “I thought Birdman was pretentious on my first viewing. That being said, I was, like, 19 when I saw it, and I’m 28 now. I may need to watch it again because being pretentious kinda felt like the point of the movie.”
Another user replied, “My favourite part about Birdman was seeing Edward Norton playing himself.”
15. Rubber
“Rubber … I thought it’d be about a sentient tire blowing people up. But it kept cutting to a surrogate audience standing in a field watching the events and doing meta-commentary on film. Also, Lady in the Water … He was writing a movie critic character just to make them an ah you can kill off. Then, making the struggling writer the saviour of the world through his excellent writing and then casting YOURSELF for the role? Lol,” one user posted.
16. Wes Anderson’s Newer Films

One user posted, “Wes Anderson’s newer films are the definition. Bring back Owen to rein him in.”
Another user commented, “I came into this thread specifically to see how soon Asteroid City would come up.”
“Wes Anderson is so confident in his style at this point in his career, that someone calling his latest effort pretentiousness would just read as, ‘Oh good, you saw my film. Thank you, it was very pretentious,’” one user responded.
17. Mother!

“Mother!” shared by one Redditor.
Another user commented, “This is one movie I loved, but I can recommend it to no one.”
18. Cloud Atlas
One Redditor posted, “Cloud Atlas. That movie is the definition of smelling your gas in public. It’s just so g-d- stupid in an ‘I’m 14, and this is deep’” sort of way.”
19. Joker
“Joker. … That movie thinks it’s brighter than it is but fails to hold a consistent theme in a way that says effectively nothing. It doesn’t work as a character study either because the character is also inconsistent. It’s only really grounded by a legendary performance by Joaquin,” stated one user.
One user replied, “That’s because it’s directed by the man who did The Hangover movies, doing his best attempt at Scorsese.”
20. Tree of Life
One user shared “Tree of Life.”
One user commented, “(whispers) ‘What is life?’ (Random shot of a kid walking into the sunset.) (More whispering.) ‘What does it all mean?’ (Camera pans into a blank wall.) (Whispering so quietly that it’s barely audible) ‘What is all this?’ (Dinosaurs explode in the background).”
Another user commented, “I like the movie (it’s more a montage movie than a movie-movie), but this gave me a chuckle. It’s definitely not for everyone!”

10 Celebrities Who Are Universally Disliked

People will always have preferences and something to say about celebrities. What you might love may not be the same for others. Whether it’s about their past behaviors, legal issues, or feuds with other celebrities, here is a list of celebrities people just cannot stand.
Almost all of us have wondered from time to time how the world will end. Among the popular films and apocalyptic sci-fi we’ve seen, there’s zombies, deadly pandemics, and war among nations. While they’re the worst, here are seven other ways this world can end terribly.
1. Slow Burn
One person said, “The one where we see things slowly coming and given plenty of opportunities to fix it, but idiots keep getting in the way.”
The second person replied, “So, the path we are currently on.”
Another commenter added, “Pretty sure we’ve only got 4 years left, until Elon musk accidentally creates a black hole, whilst trying to make ultra instinct shaggy a real thing, and it kills us.”
2. Like the Road
“I think that’s the only book in my adult life that I’ve read entirely in one sitting. Utterly gripping, and only took me about 4 hours to go through it. But yeah, I second your opinion here. The most eerie part of the book is that there’s never an explanation WHY the world is the way it is, but it somehow feels very tangible and believable,” somebody shared.
“I couldn’t put the book down either. Yes, it’s extremely believable that humanity would fall to that if societal structure would ever break down. A lot of good people out there, but I feel like there is even more who would put their own survival before any ethics or morals. That book scared me,” replied the original commenter.
3. A Kardashian Presidency

One Redditor commented jokingly, “A Kardashian presidency.”
The second person replied, “Pretty sure, that the worst timeline, would’ve been if Kanye became president.”
4. Diarrhea Pandemic
Somebody stated, “Incurable diarrhea pandemic. Like there is a lot of bad ways for the world to end, but I feel like humanity collectively messing ourselves to death would be up there. Plus it’s not even far-fetched, diarrhea can absolutely kill and viruses can cause it, dehydration from illness strikes fast and is horrible. So is all dehydration, but when it comes on rapidly, it’s very painful.”
5. Zombie Apocalypse
“Zombie apocalypse. That’s the true method to painfully breakdown civilization,” said one.
“Break their jaws and cage them. Build hamster style wheels attached to generators. Boom, renewable, green energy,” replied another in sarcasm.
6. Famine
“Famine. There was simply nothing to eat on earth for the entire world so people turned into to cannibals. Let’s see how long it would take for everyone to die,” one user hypothesized.
7. Like in Threads (1984)
One person shared, “Think my phone was listening in again, just watched a British film yesterday called Threads (1985). It was a realism-inspired nuclear holocaust, it wasn’t a positive film, was good to watch though. What I derived from it was this. If there is a nuclear war, stand directly under the first launched bomb’s target area!”

The OP opened the topic with, “Jurassic Park only recently, and I think it still works. In fact, it touches more subjects and problems and patches a lot more plot holes than a lot of today’s blockbusters.”
Jurassic Park is Steven Spielberg’s massive blockbuster franchise that revolves around two paleontologists and mathematicians. They are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. They later found out it wasn’t as safe as they thought when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.

One Redditor replied to the OP and shared, “F— This post makes me feel old.”
Another user responded, “Personally, I think those old Disney flicks like Inside Out are really timeless. Edited twice for grammar.”
Another agreed, “Same. And I’m not even what you’d consider ‘old.’”
3. Chinatown
“Chinatown…..oooooh, I love me some noir. Also, if the early 90’s is classic, then Glengarry Glen Ross. Edit: the first Dirty Harry movie, also Escape from Alcatraz. Remains of the Day…I still cry a bit when I watch that. The first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve…sure, it’s got ridiculously dated effects, but the joy of Williams’ score and Reeve just being perfect for Clark Kent and Superman is always uplifting to me,” one usershared.
4. City Lights
One user highlighted some movies, “Good list. I’d throw City Lights, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Rebecca, Rear Window, The Wicker Man, and The Last Picture Show on there.”
Another user replied, “Thank you for that. When I think of classics, I think of that time period; maybe I’m getting old.”
One Redditor commented, “Period films should always hold up… it is in their design.”
5. Citizen Kane
One user also shared another list, “When it comes to classic old movies that still hold up today, opinions may vary. However, here are a few examples that are often regarded as timeless:
“Citizen Kane (1941)—Orson Welles’ masterpiece is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. Its storytelling, compelling characters, and exploration of power and identity continue to captivate viewers.
“Casablanca (1942)—This romantic drama set during World War II is known for its memorable quotes, enduring performances, and timeless themes of love, sacrifice, and political intrigue.
“The Shawshank Redemption (1994)—Though not as old as some other classics, this film has achieved cult status and is considered one of the best movies ever made. Its gripping story, exceptional performances, and messages of hope and redemption have resonated with audiences worldwide.
“Gone with the Wind (1939)—This epic historical romance is still highly regarded for its sweeping scale, memorable characters, and lush cinematography. It remains a classic example of old Hollywood filmmaking.
“Psycho (1960)—Alfred Hitchcock’s psychological thriller continues to be praised for its suspenseful storytelling, iconic shower scene, and groundbreaking techniques. Its impact on the horror genre is still felt today.”
6. The Godfather

7. It’s a Wonderful Life
A user shared, “I’d say maybe most of Frank Capra’s films still hold up. Even if the world isn’t the same.”
Some of Frank Capra’s films are It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Mr. Deeds Goes To Town (1936), and Lost Horizon (1937).
8. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
“Twin peaks fire walk with me. Still scarier than most of the so-called horror movies nowadays.”, posted by a Redditor.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is a 1992 American psychological horror film directed by David Lynch and written by Lynch and Engels. It is a prequel to the television series Twin Peaks, which combines detective fiction, horror, supernatural, offbeat humor, and soap opera tropes. Loads more too.”
10. White Heat

As the autumn leaves fall and the air grows chill, the timeless allure of classic Halloween movies beckons us once again to the eerie and fantastical realms they depict.
Films like Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, The Addams Family, Sleepy Hollow, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Friday the 13th have become staples of the season, drawing us into worlds where the supernatural reigns and the eerie takes center stage.
Yet, beyond the talented actors, eerie plotlines, and haunting soundtracks, there is another essential element that breathes life into these cinematic masterpieces — the sets and interiors.
These iconic films transport us to a realm where witches, ghosts, monsters, and vampires coexist with the living, where the macabre meets the mundane. The interiors of these movies play a pivotal role in setting the stage, creating an ambiance that is both captivating and spine-tingling.
They are the canvas on which the artists behind the scenes — visionary movie directors, stellar production designers, and art directors — paint a rich tapestry of emotions, invoking a unique blend of awe and fear that leaves a lasting imprint on our psyche.
It’s no secret that the setting and backdrop for a movie are of paramount importance, but in the realm of fantasy and horror, this importance is magnified. A well-crafted set can serve as a character in its own right, immersing the audience in a carefully designed world where the surreal becomes reality.
The creaking floorboards, dimly lit corridors, and eerie artifacts scattered about these cinematic interiors hold the power to transport us to the very heart of the narrative, intensifying our connection to the story and its characters.

#1 Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, has solidified its place in cinematic history as a beloved cult classic. Released in 1988, the film has retained its charm, continuing to enchant audiences with its darkly whimsical and quirky narrative.
Set in the afterlife and the realm of the deceased, Beetlejuice introduces us to the Maitlands, a recently deceased couple who find themselves trapped in their own home. When the Deetz family moves in and begins to alter their beloved residence, the Maitlands seek the help of the titular character, Beetlejuice, an obnoxious and mischievous ghost.
What sets Beetlejuice apart and contributes to its enduring popularity are its aesthetics. The film’s production design and set decoration transport us to a world that is a delightful blend of the gothic and the absurd.
The Maitland’s haunted house is a marvel of grotesque beauty, filled with eccentric and grotesque details that are meticulously crafted to perfection. And AI managed to capture all of its magic in recreating an interior design inspired by the 1988 movie, as we’ve seen above.
#2 Sleepy Hollow
Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, released in 1999, is a modern classic that has left a lasting mark on the world of fantasy and horror cinema. This adaptation of Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci transports us to a hauntingly atmospheric world where mystery and the supernatural reign supreme.
The story unfolds in the eerie, fog-shrouded town of Sleepy Hollow, where the legendary Headless Horseman terrorizes the inhabitants. Ichabod Crane, a skeptical constable from New York, is sent to investigate the grisly murders attributed to this decapitated specter.
As he delves deeper into the macabre secrets of the town, Ichabod discovers a web of dark conspiracies, and the line between the living and the dead becomes chillingly blurred.
Sleepy Hollow is beloved for a multitude of reasons, but its aesthetics play a crucial role in its appeal.
Tim Burton’s signature style is on full display in this film, and it’s impossible not to be entranced by the hauntingly beautiful world he creates. The movie’s visuals are a mesmerizing blend of Gothic and Victorian influences, rich in dark and brooding atmospheres.
The misty, moonlit woods and decaying manors of Sleepy Hollow are brought to life with an enchanting and eerie allure.
The film’s muted color palette, dominated by deep blacks, blood reds, and smoky grays, lends it an unmistakable sense of foreboding. The costumes, too, are meticulously designed to capture the essence of the period, making the characters feel like they’ve stepped out of a haunting painting.
And the interiors AI conjured in the image above beautifully reflect the moody aesthetics of the world Burton created.
#3 Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th (1980), is a beloved classic in the slasher genre. The film follows a group of camp counselors who, while trying to reopen a summer camp, are terrorized by an unknown assailant. As the body count rises, the identity of the killer becomes a chilling mystery.
This film is cherished for its role in popularizing the slasher subgenre and its effective use of suspense and tension. Its aesthetics, though simpler compared to other horror films, play a significant part in its appeal.
The movie’s camp setting, with its rustic cabins, dense woods, and isolated lakeside, creates a sense of vulnerability and fear.

The dark, shadowy cinematography and gruesome practical effects contribute to the film’s enduring reputation as a quintessential slasher classic. Its iconic killer, Jason Voorhees, has become a symbol of horror, and the film’s aesthetics remain an integral part of its enduring legacy.
And here’s how the movie’s aesthetics translates into interior design:
#4 The Nightmare Before Christmas
The 1993 stop-motion animated masterpiece The Nightmare Before Christmas
has carved a special place in the hearts of audiences as a holiday classic. This enchanting film, directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton, takes us to the whimsical worlds of Halloween Town and Christmas Town.
The story revolves around Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who stumbles upon Christmas Town and becomes captivated by the holiday’s joy and cheer.
Determined to bring Christmas to his fellow residents, Jack embarks on a misadventure that blurs the lines between the macabre and the merry, resulting in a heartwarming and visually stunning narrative — that AI managed to transform into eccentric interiors that blend both the eerie and cheerful visual elements of the Halloween classic.
What makes “The Nightmare Before Christmas” so beloved are its unique aesthetics. The film is a visual marvel, with its meticulously crafted stop-motion animation creating a surreal and captivating world.
The character design, with its array of eccentric and endearing denizens, including Jack Skellington, Sally, and Oogie Boogie, is both spooky and lovable. The contrast between the dark, Tim Burton-inspired Halloween Town and the cheerful Christmas Town is an aesthetic triumph that underscores the film’s central theme of transformation and discovery.
#5 The Addams Family
The Addams Family, the 1991 cinematic adaptation of the classic TV series, remains a beloved classic known for its quirky characters and distinctive aesthetics.
Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the film brings the delightfully macabre Addams family to life on the big screen. The family’s eccentricities, from Gomez and Morticia’s passionate yet gothic love to Wednesday’s morbid fascination and Pugsley’s appetite for destruction, add a refreshing twist to the family comedy genre.
Aesthetically, the film is a visual feast.
The production design immerses viewers in the eerie and opulent world of the Addams mansion, which becomes a character in its own right. The mansion boasts a foreboding exterior and lavish, cobweb-covered interiors filled with bizarre artifacts and contraptions.
And while the exterior of the opulent house is by no means easy to replicate, AI quickly reimagined the interiors of the Addams family house, carefully incorporating the movie’s key themes and aesthetics.
The film’s color palette combines dark, moody tones with vibrant pops of color, capturing the whimsical and Gothic elements that set it apart from conventional family comedies.
The Addams Family embraces the macabre without losing its sense of humor, making it a unique and enduring classic that celebrates the unconventional while reminding us that there’s beauty in embracing the bizarre.
#6 Hocus Pocus
Another Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus (1993) has cast its spell on audiences for decades, becoming a cherished tradition during the spooky season.
The original movie — a much-awaited sequel was released in 2022 — weaves a captivating tale of three witch sisters resurrected on Halloween night in modern-day Salem, Massachusetts, and the trio’s quest for immortality.

The film’s enduring appeal lies in its enchanting blend of humor, supernatural elements, and timeless aesthetics. The Sanderson sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, infuse the story with their zany yet malevolent charm, making them iconic Halloween figures.
The film’s witty and light-hearted approach to witchcraft and the supernatural, coupled with the nostalgic ’90s setting, creates a perfect blend of family-friendly Halloween spookiness with aesthetics that continue to captivate both young and old alike.
And they translate into some equally charming interiors that perfectly capture a timeless and whimsical Halloween atmosphere.
Visually, Hocus Pocus captures the essence of Halloween with its cozy small-town setting, complete with quaint colonial houses and a centuries-old cemetery.
The film’s visuals evoke the quintessential Halloween ambiance, replete with autumnal colors, jack-o’-lanterns, and the sisters’ distinctive witchy attire. The Sanderson sisters’ spellbinding concoctions and magical mishaps, rendered through practical effects, add a touch of enchantment to the film’s aesthetics, making it a feast for the eyes.
#7 Little Shop of Horrors
The 1986 cult classic is celebrated for its unique blend of musical comedy and horror. Directed by Frank Oz, the film tells the story of Seymour, a meek floral shop worker who discovers a peculiar plant with a ravenous appetite for human flesh. As the plant, Audrey II, grows and demands increasingly gruesome sacrifices, the story takes dark and humorous twists.
The film’s beloved status can be attributed to its entertaining combination of humor and horror, with a cast that includes Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and Steve Martin. Little Shop of Horrors offers a fresh take on the B-movie horror genre, using catchy musical numbers and witty dialogue to add an unexpected charm to the story.
Aesthetically, the film features a distinct 1960s urban backdrop with a color palette reminiscent of comic book aesthetics, easily replicated by AI when creating Little Shop of Horrors-inspired interiors.
The imaginative design of Audrey II, a menacing and larger-than-life carnivorous plant, is a visual highlight, blending seamlessly with the film’s darkly comedic themes.
The film’s aesthetics play a crucial role in making it memorable, creating a world where the bizarre and the hilarious intersect, ensuring Little Shop of Horrors remains a beloved classic for those who appreciate its quirky charm.

Bringing a dozen strangers from different parts of the US together on a picture-perfect Greek island, Surviving Paradise — Netflix’s most recent answer to the question “What reality show can we get people hooked on?” — is best described as Survivor with influencers.
Promised the summer of a lifetime, the contestants are in for a huge surprise as soon as they reach their destination.
Instead of living it up at the luxury clifftop villa overlooking the ocean, they’re banished to the wilderness of the forest nearby and have to face a series of challenges (and lots of scheming) to earn their cozy spot inside the villa.
At stake is a $100,000 cash prize for those who manage to form the right alliances and move from the outdoor camp back into the villa — and stay there until the end.
The reality series was filmed in Lefkada, an idyllic Greek island in the Ionian Sea known for its soft-sand beaches, rich, blue waters, and picturesque traditional villages.
And while there’s no shortage of luxury villas on the beautiful Greek island, the producers made sure to pick one of the most impressive ones, to make the contestants’ efforts worthwhile.
Located in Porto Katsiki in Lefkada, Greece the Surviving Paradise villa is known as Noiya and consists of a main house and three standalone glass studios.
With 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, the luxury house can accommodate up to 16 guests, who also get to enjoy its many amenities, which include two swimming pools, a basketball court, and unobstructed sea views.
The villa’s description on The Thinking Traveller summarizes it best:
“Ensconced in the fragrant, emerald green pine woods of Lefkada’s southwestern promontory, Noiya occupies a panoramic position that has few rivals. Down below are two of the island’s most iconic beaches, and the charming seafront village of Vassiliki is close by, but once settled in, you may feel little inclination to leave behind the inspiring contemporary design, the luxurious touches, attentive service, and the splendid array of amenities that make Noiya such a joy to experience.”
Now try re-reading that description (particularly that last part, about having “little inclination” to ever leave the villa) through the contestants’ eyes.
The property is also for sale — though the contestants wouldn’t be able to afford it even if they all were to win the cash prize and pool the money together.
The villa appears to be listed for sale on the Barnes International Realty website with a €4,300,000 price tag. That’s a little over US$4.5 million. Mrs. Marika Dimitriadou holds the listing.
Renting it doesn’t come cheap either. A one-week stay at the Surviving Paradise villa costs between €13,000 and €32,000, which means groups can pay up to $34,000 to spend a week here.
So if you’d like to spend your next getaway with friends here, maybe ask a few (or a dozen) extra guests to join and split the costs; I hear there’s also an outdoor camp nearby that can accommodate people who aren’t welcome in the villa.
This isn’t Netflix’s first production shot primarily in Greece.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was filmed in Porto Heli, Greece, with an equally impressive villa serving as Miles Bron’s Glass Onion house (though the glass onion portion on top was added with CGI), as was the 2021 drama/thriller Beckett, the first Netflix movie shot entirely in Greece.

There is a significant difference between being an adult and behaving like one. Legally, teens become adults when they turn 18. It’s pretty common for teenagers to ponder the moment of their transition into adulthood and the distinguishing factors between being an adult and a child. Here’s a list of life skills we think every adult needs to know in order to really act like an adult.
1. Financial Management

Acquiring the ability to handle your financial matters is an essential life skill that every individual should grasp before reaching 18 years of age. Financial management encompa-es skills such as devising and adhering to a budget, saving funds, comprehending credit, and preparing for future expenditures. Acquiring strong financial management abilities in your youth can establish a foundation for long-term financial stability in the future. Learning how to prioritize critical expenses (like rent), avoid overspending, and save for emergencies and future goals is important. It’s never too early to start learning; kids as young as 7 or 8 can begin practicing with their allowance.
One Redditor said, “Developing skills of positive financial management is a process many overlook.”
Another also added, “So much this. Or even just understanding how to budget and a basic understanding of household bills.”
2. Good Hygiene

Proper hygiene is crucial for averting illnesses and diseases and enhancing personal appearance and contentment. Cultivate healthy routines like consistently washing your hands, caring for your oral hygiene, taking showers, and donning fresh clothing. Practicing good hygiene in public places and when you’re sick is also essential. By learning good hygiene at a young age, you can develop habits that benefit your own health and make it easier to keep a strong group of friends—giving you a healthier community overall.
3. Cooking

Cooking is important not only for saving money but also because it can teach you time management, budgeting, nutrition, and many other things. Cooking at home gives you greater control over the ingredients they use, which is especially helpful if you have allergies. Overall, learning how to cook is a valuable skill that provides numerous benefits, including increased self-sufficiency. It is never too early to start learning and developing cooking skills at a young age can set individuals up for a lifetime of healthy and enjoyable eating habits.
One user said, “Oh, and cooking some basic meals is a lifesaver. I don’t know why schools don’t have home economics cla-es. It’s such a shame.”
4. Simple First Aid

Acquiring a basic understanding of first aid holds significance, as it enables you to navigate emergencies without succumbing to the fight-or-flight instinct and instead provide practical a-istance. Basic first aid skills can help prevent injuries from worsening and sometimes even save lives. It’s good to know how to treat minor cuts, burns, and bruises and respond to choking, allergic reactions, and other medical emergencies. Knowing how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) usually requires certification, but it can be life-saving in some situations.
Understanding how to see the big picture in an emergency is important, such as a-essing the situation, calling paramedics, and staying calm and focused.
5. Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is how we carefully analyze information, evaluate evidence, and make logical decisions. The foundation of critical thinking is really just asking good questions, trying to find out all the relevant information before you make a decision, and developing your problem-solving abilities. The world is full of information, misinformation, and confusing situations (like finding an honest mechanic or negotiating with a landlord). The ability to think critically and ask good questions will take you a long way.
One Redditor said, “Don’t take things at face value; really consider what is being told to you, why, and by who. There are good people in the world of course, but there are many who do NOT have your best interest at heart and will attempt to take advantage of your ignorance. Go slow, listen, learn, and Think.”
6. Time Management

Time management is an essential life skill; it can benefit anyone at any age, but it’s particularly important to learn it as you move away from home and encounter the world on your own. Managing your time is important for everything from the obvious (working, school, making plans with friends), to cooking a meal or cleaning your house. As you become an adult, practice managing your time and creating a schedule or using a calendar or planner. Time management can help you be more productive, achieve your goals, and reduce stress.
7. Emotional Intelligence
Take some time as you become an adult to learn or brush up on emotional intelligence. You don’t have to read thoughts, but staying attentive to the emotions, reactions, and expressions of the people around you can teach you so much and help a lot with all kinds of relationships. Everything from working to dating relationships relies a lot on working with other people’s moods and emotions, even if they’re unfair. Developing these skills will help navigate social relationships and communicate clearly and effectively.
One Redditor added, “Emotional intelligence. I didn’t start developing this at all until I was in my late 20s. I feel like men especially struggle with this.”
8. Self Control
Delayed gratification is one of the hardest skills to learn: almost everybody is tempted by the instant payoff. Learning self-control is essential to make better decisions, regulate emotions, and achieve goals. Self-control skills include delayed gratification, but also impulse control, self-motivation, and stress management. The ability to manage your stress, keep yourself motivated, and keep control over your impulses will take you a long way in life.
One Redditor stated, “Self-control, you are now an adult, and whatever protections you had for your actions as a minor are largely gone, and the consequences are now higher.”
9. Communication Skills
Learning to communicate well can provide significant benefits, such as improved relationships, better academic performance, increased employability, improved mental health, and enhanced problem-solving abilities. Some ways to develop communication skills include practicing speaking, reading, and writing, joining clubs or organizations, active listening, and seeking feedback. Whatever way you find to practice, do it with mindfulness and intention, not just to get it done.
10. Developing Your Own Opinions
Developing your opinions is an important skill to develop before age 18 because it helps you become a critical thinker and an independent individual. It is essential to form your own opinions based on evidence, logic, and reasoning rather than simply adopting the beliefs of others.
11. Learn a New Skill
As you age and become more independent, don’t stop studying and learning new things. New skills are not only just interesting (and make you a more interesting person), but they can increase your overall joy, inspire you in your school or career, and keep your mind sharp. Some really valuable skills to consider brushing up on include a foreign language, coding or computer programming, public speaking, writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
As a user added, “There are a lot of skills one should possess before turning 18; they include social skills, communication networking, tech skills, video editing, graphics designing, and coding…”
While you might not try to learn those exact skills for your personal career path, keep studying and learning whatever direction you decide to take.
