American Express is notoriously secretive about the details of the Centurion Black Card. For many years, the company didn’t acknowledge the existence of the Black Card. And there’s some evidence that the card became a part of pop culture lore before becoming an actual product.
But today, the Centurion Card very much exists as a product for a select group of high net worth individuals willing to shell out a generous sum of money to carry perhaps the most exclusive credit card out there.
Here are 10 things we know about the AmEx Centurion Card.
1. The Centurion Black Card is invitation-only
You don’t get the Centurion Card by applying for it.
If you want to join the exclusive club of cardholders who carry the Centurion Black Card, you must get an invitation from AmEx. And a Centurion Card invitation isn’t something AmEx hands out lightly. While AmEx services over 100 million cardholders, there are estimates that AmEx only has 100,000 Centurion cardholders worldwide.
2. It will cost you $10,000 to get one
The Centurion Card carries a hefty initiation fee. Reports vary, but the most recent information is that AmEx charges $10,000 to become a Centurion member.
You might think paying a five-figure fee would be enough to grant you a lifetime of benefits, but not with the Centurion Card.
If you want to keep the card, you’ll have to shell out $5,000 per year. And that annual fee is not waived in the first year.
3. You can request a Centurion Card invite online
While the Centurion Black Card is invite-only, it is possible to request an invitation online. You must have an AmEx card to make the request. AmEx also clearly states that an invitation request does not mean you will receive an invitation.
4. You need to be a big spender to get a Centurion Black Card
It is widely accepted that you need to be a big spender for AmEx to give you a Centurion Card.
Reports on the internet range from requiring $250,000 to over a million dollars of annual spending. AmEx has not confirmed any specific spending requirements, and there’s no known threshold at which Platinum cardmembers receive an invitation.
While the exact amount you need to spend on your cards is a matter of speculation, you probably need to spend at least six figures annually on an AmEx card to get a Centurion Card.
5. Centurion Cardmembers still get to bring guests into the Centurion lounge
Centurion cardmembers didn’t suffer this cut and still retain expanded access. Centurion cardmembers may bring in two guests or immediate family members. Eligible immediate family members include a spouse, a domestic partner and children under 18.
6. The Centurion Black Card offers an unbelievable level of concierge service
For the multimillionaires and billionaires who carry the AmEx Centurion Card, probably the most helpful benefit is the Centurion concierge.
The concierge service offered on The Platinum Card® from American Express is limited to helping with travel reservations, getting event tickets, making restaurant reservations and fulfilling shopping requests. The concierge service offered by the Centurion Card offers seemingly unlimited service.
Centurion cardholders report using the Centurion concierge for things you might expect. One cardholder says that his concierge makes travel bookings considering his seat preferences based on the airline cabin configuration. His concierge also contacts hotels to inform them of the cardmember’s arrival time.
But Centurion concierges have also handled requests such as arranging elaborate tours, getting front-row tickets for in-demand concerts, locating personal items lost during travel and even arranging emergency evacuations.
For someone who might not have a full-time personal assistant, the Centurion concierge can offer an alternative.
Like many other things about the Centurion Black Card, the card’s perks are shrouded in secrecy. AmEx doesn’t provide much information about the card on its website and most reports about the card’s perks are based on third-hand accounts and speculation.
However, we have confirmed a partial list of benefits offered to Centurion cardmembers. Here are some of these exclusive benefits:
An auto program that allows cardmembers to anonymously negotiate prices on luxury automobile purchases through a members-only website.
Global chef partnerships, which grant access to daily table reservations at fine dining restaurants around the world.
Exclusive seating in ticket blocks reserved for Centurion cardholders at many major events worldwide.
Various onboard credits, excursion credits and vouchers are available exclusively to Centurion cardmembers through Centurion Cruise Partners.
Private jet arrangements can be made for Centurion cardholders through the AmEx Private Jet program.
8. Yes, you can buy a mansion or a private jet on a Centurion Card
Like many aspects of the Centurion Black Card, the card’s purchasing power has been the subject of much speculation. The card offers no preset limit, but how far does that go? While there are no credible reports of someone buying a Gulfstream or even a Cessna Citation (private jet) with a Centurion Card, the card has been used for some substantial purchases.
In 2015, The New York Times reported that Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian purchased a Modigliani painting at Christie’s auction house in New York. The price? $170.4 million. If you can put a $170 million painting on an AmEx card, why not a jet or a mansion?
9. You can get many of the Centurion Card’s perks from The Platinum Card® from American Express
Many of the perks offered by the AmEx Centurion Card can be had with The Platinum Card® from American Express, a card that carries a much more affordable $695 annual fee compared to its counterpart. Here are some of the perks that the Centurion Card shares with The Platinum Card® from American Express:
The Global Lounge Collection grants access to 1,400 airport lounges across 140 countries.
The AmEx International Airline Program offers preferred airfares with participating airlines.
Presale ticket access.
And just like The Platinum Card® from American Express, the Centurion Card earns Membership Rewards, which can be transferred to any of AmEx’s transfer partners.
Terms apply.
10. You can get better rewards on many other cards
The AmEx Centurion Card isn’t the card to get if you want to earn the maximum rewards on your spending. And even if it were, you’d have to chase a lot of category spending to compensate for the card’s annual fee.
If you’re looking for generous rewards on your spending, consider a card that earns 2% cash back on all purchases. Many of these cards have no annual fee.

For anyone looking for a savings opportunity while traveling, the nation’s largest retailer has just launched a new booking platform for its members that can help with just that.
Walmart+ Travel (powered by Expedia) is now live, allowing members to book flights, rental cars, hotels, vacation rentals, activities and more. But the best part? You can get up to 5% Walmart Cash on these purchases.
This new benefit adds to an already lucrative lineup of benefits for Walmart+ members.
Here’s everything you need to know about this new offering.
Overview of Walmart+ Travel
As noted previously, Walmart+ Travel is powered by Expedia, and it’s available through your Walmart+ account and at WalmartPlusTravel.com. It’s a great way to get extra benefits on virtually all aspects of a trip. When you book directly with Walmart+ Travel, you’ll receive Walmart Cash on your travel purchases at the following rate:
5% Walmart Cash on hotel bookings, vacation rentals, rental cars and activities.
2% Walmart Cash on air travel.
If you book a vacation package that includes two (or more) of these items, you’ll earn Walmart Cash at a blended rate (e.g., 2% on the air travel part of the purchase and 5% on the other parts).
Your Walmart Cash will appear as “pending” in your Walmart+ account before becoming available within 30 days of the completion of your trip. You have the option of using it for future Walmart purchases or receiving it as cash back in your pocket.
Walmart+ Travel is available now for existing Walmart+ members as well as new ones. You’ll even have access to it if you sign up for a free 30-day trial of the program — allowing you to test it (and the many other benefits of Walmart+) before committing to a full membership.
How to use Walmart+ Travel
To access Walmart+ Travel, simply visit walmartplus.com and sign in to your account. You’ll find the Walmart+ Travel tile in your member hub. Simply click “Book a Trip,” which will take you to the Walmart+ Travel site, which is powered by Expedia.
Reward your inbox with the TPG Daily newsletter
Join over 700,000 readers for breaking news, in-depth guides and exclusive deals from TPG’s experts.
From there, search for your desired travel arrangements — including flights, rental cars, hotels, vacation rentals and packages. You’ll clearly see the amount of Walmart Cash you’d get for each type of booking.
Select the reservation(s) you want, then follow the on-screen instructions to finalize the booking.
Once you receive the confirmation, you’ll see your Walmart Cash listed as “pending” in your Walmart+ account within 48 hours.
Thirty days after the completion of your booking, your Walmart Cash will change to “redeemable” and can be applied to future Walmart purchases — or received directly as cash back.
Remember that airline tickets purchased through a third-party platform like Walmart+ Travel are typically treated like normal revenue tickets and thus are eligible to earn points or miles. You should also enjoy any elite status perks you have with the given airline — though this often isn’t the case with major hotel and rental car programs.
Using Walmart+ Travel with other member benefits
Of course, Walmart+ Travel is just the newest benefit for members, and it adds even more value for those taking to the skies (or hitting the roads) this summer.
For example, Walmart+ members enjoy free shipping with no order minimum (excluding most Marketplace items and certain location and freight charges). This allows you to stock up on travel essentials ahead of a trip you book with Walmart+ Travel — and you can even use any available Walmart Cash for these purchases.
For example, for those without a Walmart+ membership, these packing cubes would require a trip to your local Walmart for in-store pickup or cost $6.99 to ship.
However, Walmart+ members could have these shipped directly to their home address — and most items will arrive within one to two days.
If a road trip is in your future, you can also leverage Walmart+ fuel savings at more than 14,000 stations nationwide. This can give you 10 cents off every gallon of gas at participating locations (5 cents in Alabama and Oklahoma; subject to change).
Finally, when you arrive at your destination and settle into your hotel or vacation rental, you can launch your included Paramount+ streaming subscription (Essential plan only; separate registration required).
How to join Walmart+
If you’re not currently a Walmart+ member, you can become a member by visiting the Walmart+ website and clicking the link at the top to start your free 30-day trial.
Remember that holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express can receive a statement credit each month when they charge the monthly cost of a Walmart+ membership ($12.95 plus applicable taxes) to their card (enrollment required; Plus Ups not eligible).
As soon as your account is activated, you’ll be able to start receiving Walmart Cash for bookings through Walmart+ Travel — and access the various other benefits of membership.

This enhancement allows Walmart+ members to save money on virtually every aspect of their travels, with Walmart Cash that can cover future Walmart purchases or be redeemed directly for cash back.
If you’re not a member, join today — and then begin receiving Walmart Cash on your next trip.
If you’re in the market for a cash-back credit card that rewards you for the types of purchases you probably make every day (or at least every week), look no further than the USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card. It’s one of the best no-annual-fee cash-back cards around thanks to a generous rewards program and choice nonrewards benefits.
The big catch is that it’s only available to USAA members, who make up a very small minority of U.S. consumers. But if you’re fortunate enough to be an existing or eligible member, this card is definitely worth a closer look.
What Is the USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card?
The USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card is a cash-back card with no annual fee or foreign transaction fees. It offers an accessible sign-up bonus, a 0% intro APR promotion on balance transfers, and a simple but solid cash-back earning structure.
New account holders can earn a tidy sign-up bonus without much effort. The fact that there is no minimum spend for this sign-up bonus makes it accessible to everyone.
New cardholders may also qualify for introductory financing, which offers 0% APR for 15 months on balance transfers and convenience checks that post to your account within 90 days of account opening. This offer is available only for a limited time. And after the introductory APR offer ends, a variable APR will apply — which is currently 14.90% to 30.90%, depending on your creditworthiness.
This card’s rewards program is quite generous for a no-annual-fee card:
3 points per $1 spent on dining
2 points per $1 spent on groceries
2 points per $1 spent at gas stations
1 point per $1 spent on all other eligible purchases
These points are worth one cent each when deposited to a USAA checking or savings account, which is the best redemption option. They’re worth slightly less when you request your rewards as a statement credit.
The card also offers other travel benefits, including auto rental coverage, travel accident insurance, trip cancellation and interruption coverage and baggage delay and reimbursement. Plus, you get extended warranty protection on eligible U.S. manufacturer warranties.
What Sets the USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card Apart?
This card has several features that help it distinguish itself from other credit cards in its category.
0% Intro APR promotion on balance transfers. Although this offer doesn’t waive interest on purchases at any point, its 15-month, 0% intro balance transfer APR is still a good offer. It also covers convenience checks that post to the account within 90 days of account opening, with no additional cash advance fee. That’s unusual (and welcome).
A sign-up bonus that’s easy to earn. New accountholders qualify for this card’s sign-up bonus after making just one purchase with their card. Many other sign-up bonuses have a minimum spend that you must meet in order to receive the bonus, but this one doesn’t.
3x points on dining. For a card with no annual fee, 3x points on dining is a good earning rate for folks who regularly dine out and/or order takeout.
Requires USAA membership. You must be a member of USAA to apply for this card. USAA membership is available to active-duty and retired military service members and their families, which means most consumers aren’t eligible. This is definitely the card’s biggest drawback.
Key Features of the USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card
The USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card offers an easily accessible sign-up bonus, a 0% intro APR promotion, and a simple but solid earning structure.
Sign-Up Bonus
Earn 2,500 bonus points after your first purchase. That’s worth up to $25 at redemption.
Earning Rewards
This card earns 3 points per $1 spent on dining, 2 points per $1 spent on groceries, 2 points per $1 spent at gas stations, and 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
Redeeming Rewards
Rewards can be redeemed for:
Cash back in the form of a statement credit or an electronic deposit to your USAA account
General merchandise
Gift cards from participating merchants
Charitable contributions to participating charities
Travel accommodations through USAA’s own travel booking portal
Minimum redemption requirements vary by redemption method but are generally manageable..
0% Introductory APR Promotion
For a limited time, this card offers 0% introductory APR for 15 months on balance transfers and convenience checks that post to your account within 90 days of account opening. After the intro APR offer ends, a variable APR will apply, which is currently 14.90% to 30.90%, depending on creditworthiness.
Important Fees
This card charges a balance transfer and cash advance fee of 3% of the amount of each transaction. There are late payment and returned payment fees of up to $35, but no foreign transaction fee.
Credit Required
This card requires good or better credit to qualify. If your FICO score is much below 700, your application might be denied.
Pros & Cons
The USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card has several appealing benefits and a couple downsides to keep in mind as well.
Generous rewards program for a no-annual-fee card
Long 0% intro APR promotion on balance transfers and convenience checks
Valuable nonrewards benefits
Requires USAA membership
Very small sign-up bonus
Pros
This card has a generous rewards program, a long 0% intro APR promotional period, and valuable nonrewards benefits.
Strong bonus categories. Earning 3x points on dining and 2x points on groceries and at gas stations can add up quickly. These points are worth $0.01 each when you deposit your rewards into a USAA checking or savings account.
Receive 15 months of 0% APR financing. This offer is a little quirky in that it applies only to balance transfers and convenience checks, both of which have a 3% fee. But it’s rare to find an introductory APR offer that includes convenience checks, which usually charge interest from the get-go.
Valuable benefits. This card comes with a host of travel insurance and purchase protection policies that are usually just found on premium rewards cards. So it’s a welcome surprise to see these benefits on a cash back card with no annual fee.
Cons
This card has strict eligibility requirements and a sign-up bonus that’s almost not worth writing home about.
You must be a USAA member. For the most part, USAA members are very satisfied with their membership, but it’s not open to everyone. You have to be an active-duty or retired service member, or a spouse or child of one. If you’re not eligible for membership — and something like 95% of Americans aren’t — then you can’t apply for this card.
Token sign-up bonus. The new account bonus is very small, even for a no-annual-fee card. Sure, it’s better than nothing, but you’ll barely feel it.

Final Word
It’s great to find a cash back credit card that offers competitive returns with no annual fee. For USAA members, the USAA Rewards American Express is an offer that’s worth considering. If you can take advantage of the bonus rewards categories, as well as the promotional financing terms, then the USAA Rewards American Express could be right for you. And if you’re not a USAA member yet, it could be worth joining just to take advantage of this offer.
The Verdict
Our rating
USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card
The USAA Rewards American Express Credit Card is a competitive cash-back credit card that comes with a strong introductory financing offer. Its strength is the bonus rewards available for dining, grocery, and gas purchases along with the introductory financing offer. However, this card is only available to USAA members. Plus, the financing offer is only valid for balance transfers and convenience checks rather than for new purchases, which limits its usefulness.

You’ve picked out what you think is the perfect secured credit card. It has the deposit limit you’re looking for, the right annual fee, and it even offers rewards. Imagine your surprise when the company denies your application. Can that even happen with a secure credit card?
Unfortunately, the answer is yes. But a rejected application doesn’t mean there’s no way forward.
What to Do if You’re Denied a Secured Credit Card
First things first: Don’t get too bummed out. Credit card denials happen all the time. According to a 2022 Salary Finance survey, 33% of polled applicants were denied credit cards in the past year. But there are simple steps you can take to make sure you find a solution that works for you.
1. Determine Why the Credit Card Company Denied Your Application
If you get a denial letter, your first question is likelywhy. Credit card companies want your business, so there’s usually a clear reason. Check your initial notification for the legally required explanation. It may be near the words “adverse action” or “adverse action notice.” But if you still have questions, you can call the customer service line and speak with a representative.
While you’re less likely to face denial when applying for a secured credit card, there are still a few reasons you could get rejected.
You didn’t meet income requirements. Even with a secured credit card, you’re still required to meet a minimum income threshold. Credit card companies want to know you can pay them back, and that requires a consistent form of income.
There was an identity verification issue. If the credit card company can’t verify you’re the one applying, they can’t approve the application.
You have too much debt. If you already have high debt, credit card companies are often weary about allowing you to take on more. You can read more in our article on debt-to-income ratio.
You don’t have a good enough credit score. Yes, even some secured credit cards have a minimum credit requirement. This requirement is often low, but if you still don’t hit that number, it signifies to credit issuers that you may not be able to manage credit.
You can’t pay a deposit. Most secured credit cards require a deposit. That’s what secures your credit line rather than your credit profile. If you can’t come up with the money (often a few hundred dollars), you don’t qualify for the card.
2. Review Your Credit Report
It’s becoming more common for secured credit cards to require no credit check at all. Still, some do. If an issuer denies you due to a poor credit score or history, your first step is to get your hands on your full report.
By law, you can get full credit reports from all three agencies once per year at AnnualCreditReport.com. However, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the three major bureaus began offering weekly credit reports, which you can still access for the time being.
Look through the report, checking for any errors, such as misreported debt amounts or incorrect debt collections bills. Verify everything in your report is 100% accurate. These errors — particularly if they relate to misreported debts — can lead to a denial.
3. Address Credit Issues or Errors
If you find any, disputing credit report errors is the next step. Submit disputes either online through Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion’s sites or by mail. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has dispute forms for each credit union.
If you received a denial because your credit score is too low and disputing errors doesn’t raise it, you have options.
One way to raise your credit score quickly is to pay down debt as fast as possible. That’s easier said than done, but checking off your debts one by one can help improve your credit score.
There are several strategies to help you pay off debt fast. For more information, see our article on the avalanche, snowball, and snowflake methods.
4. Consider Alternative Credit-Building Options
At the end of the day, a denial may mean a secured credit card isn’t the right option for you. Thankfully, secured cards are far from the only credit-building product on the market. There are alternatives, such as:
Credit-builder loans. Credit-builder loans are a unique product designed to help you build credit from scratch or rebuild poor credit. Unlike a traditional loan, you don’t get access to the funds until after you’ve already paid it off. In the meantime, your lender stores your money and reports your (hopefully timely) payments to credit bureaus.
Becoming an authorized user. An authorized user is someone who has access to another person’s credit card but doesn’t bear the responsibility of paying it off. If you become an authorized user on a family member’s card, your credit can benefit from their on-time payments.
Store credit cards. Some store credit cards don’t require credit checks or have few credit requirements, making it easier to get approved. Pick a store you visit frequently, such as Target or Walmart, and put your usual purchases on that credit card, making sure to pay it off regularly.
5. Reapply or Explore Other Secured Credit Cards
Despite all your research, you may not have applied for the right secured credit card. There are dozens to choose from, and approval may be a lot easier if you apply for a different one.
If it’s a credit issue, focus on secured credit cards with no credit requirements, such as the Discover it Secured Card and Capital One Platinum Secured.
If it’s providing income information you’re worried about, first consider whether a credit card is right for you and whether you can handle regular payments. That said, cards like the OpenSky Secured Visa Card have a high approval rate and very few qualification requirements.
If the card you originally applied for is the secured card of your dreams, your best bet is to improve your credit or fix the issue that caused your denial and try again later. With a few months of dedicated work on your score, you are more likely to get the approval you’re looking for.
Final Word
A credit card denial is far from the end of the world, though it might feel like it for a second. There are reasonable steps you can take, such as improving your credit, applying with a different lender, and addressing any potential errors on your credit report.
Also, think about alternative credit card options. Although a secured credit card can seem like the obvious first option when you have bad credit, there are unsecured credit cards for bad-credit customers, student credit cards for college students who want to start building credit, and even prepaid cards for those just looking for something swipeable to pay with.

Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® overview
The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees) is best for American Airlines flyers who value lounge access. It provides a full Admirals Club membership, as well as several other benefits that make flying American Airlines more enjoyable, such as a free checked bag, priority check-in, priority airport screening and priority boarding privileges, along with a boost toward elite status. Card Rating*: ⭐⭐⭐
*Card Rating is based on the opinion of TPG’s editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.
While many credit cards offer airport lounge access, the types of lounges each card gets you into can vary greatly. There’s only one cobranded credit card that includes complimentary access to the American Airlines Admirals Club lounges: the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard.
The card has a $595 annual fee, which might seem steep but is still much less expensive than an Admirals Club membership.
This card underwent major (mostly negative) changes, effective July 23, 2023. TPG director of content Nick Ewen wasn’t thrilled with them.
Today, we’ll review all the refreshed benefits on this American Airlines cobranded card to help you decide whether to carry — or keep — it in your wallet.
Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite welcome offer
The Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard is currently offering its best-ever bonus. Through Sept. 6, it’s offering 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 within the first three months of account opening. This bonus is worth a very high $1,770, based on TPG’s most recent valuations.
Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite benefits
What sets this card apart from the competition is that it provides complimentary Admirals Club access. The primary cardholder receives a full Admirals Club membership, which allows you and your immediate family or two traveling companions access to the club when you have a same-day boarding pass for American or one of its partners. Your credit card will be tied to your AAdvantage account number, so you don’t have to carry it to get club access.
Admirals Club membership ordinarily costs between $750 and $850, depending on your status level with American. That means the annual fee covers the lounge access — and that’s without all the other benefits factored in.

You can add up to 10 authorized users. They cost an additional $175 annual fee for the first three authorized users and $175 for each authorized user thereafter. Each authorized user receives Admirals Club access for themselves and up to two traveling companions. Just be aware that authorized users only get Admirals Club access, as opposed to a full Admirals Club membership.
There are three statement credits available:
Up to $120 back on eligible Avis or Budget car rentals every calendar year
Up to $120 back on eligible Grubhub purchases (up to a $10 statement credit each monthly billing statement)
Up to $120 in Lyft credits ($10 Lyft credit each month), but you have to take three eligible rides each month first to receive this credit
Here are some other valuable perks the card offers:
Enhanced airport experience: You and up to eight travelers on the same reservation will get priority check-in (where available), priority airport screening (where available) and priority boarding privileges. You can even check in at any business-class check-in position (or first-class check-in when business class is not available), regardless of the class of service in which you’re traveling.
First checked bag free on domestic itineraries: On domestic itineraries flown by American or any regional subsidiary, the first checked bag for you and up to eight traveling companions on the same reservation is free. The flight must be marketed, sold and operated by American in order to get the free checked bag.
25% off eligible inflight purchases: This essentially means 25% off inflight food and beverages when you pay for them with the card (not including inflight Wi-Fi).
Global Entry/TSA PreCheck fee statement credit: Get an up-to-$100 statement credit when paying the Global Entry fee ($100) with the card or when enrolling in TSA PreCheck ($78). You’ll receive the credit once every four years. Because you also receive TSA PreCheck when enrolling for Global Entry, there’s no real reason you should ever just enroll in PreCheck.
This card removed travel protections a few years back but has reintroduced trip cancellation and interruption, trip delay, and lost baggage protections as well as car rental insurance coverage as part of the card’s refresh.
Finally, are no foreign transaction fees, making this card a good choice when traveling abroad.
Earning miles on the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite
With the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard, you’ll earn 4 miles per dollar on eligible American Airlines purchases. Then, if you spend $150,000 on purchases in a calendar year, you’ll earn a boosted rate of 5 miles per dollar spent on American purchases for the remainder of the calendar year.
You’ll also earn 10 miles per dollar spent on eligible car rentals and hotels booked through American’s car rental and hotel booking sites, respectively.
And you’ll earn 1 mile per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases.
Cardholders earn a bonus of 10,000 Loyalty Points after reaching 50,000 Loyalty Points in a status qualification year. They will receive another bonus of 10,000 Loyalty Points after reaching 90,000 Loyalty Points in a status qualification year.
You will receive the bonuses regardless of how you earn the Loyalty Points. For example, you could earn 50,000 Loyalty Points by buying American Airlines tickets and shopping through the AAdvantage portal and get the 10,000 bonus just by holding the card.
Redeeming miles on the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite
The lowest round-trip tickets in the U.S. tend to start at 7,500 miles one-way for flights less than 500 miles long.
Web specials previously offered include domestic cross-country flights for 5,000 miles each way in economy or 15,000 miles each way in first class, flights to Europe from 9,000 miles each way and flights to Brazil from 15,000 miles each way.
Alternatively, you could get a ton of value redeeming your AAdvantage miles for premium-cabin awards on partner airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Etihad and Finnair.

Which cards compete with the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite?
American is not a transfer partner of any of the major points programs except Bilt Rewards, so the biggest competitors of this card are mostly other cobranded American Airlines cards, but you can also get tons of value from a more general premium card.
If you want a lower annual fee: The Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard is a solid mid-level credit card that offers elite-status-like benefits, all for a lower annual fee of $99. For more information, read our full review of the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select.
If you’re not an avid AA flyer: It could make more sense to stick to a premium travel rewards card such as The Platinum Card® from American Express, which allows you to earn up to five points per dollar on airfare (when booked directly with the airline or Amex Travel on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year) and take advantage of myriad airline transfer partners. For more information, read our full review of the Amex Platinum.

Is the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite worth it?
Since the price of an Admirals Club membership is at least $750 each year, the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard should catch the eye of any frequent American flyer’s attention. If you want Admirals Club access and to boost your AA mileage balance with a sign-up bonus (while also easing elite status requirements), this card might be a good fit. However, you might want to look elsewhere if you’re looking for a card that will give you a better return on your spending.
Bottom line
With full Admirals Club membership and several other American Airlines benefits, the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite American Airlines is best for flyers who can maximize its lounge access. If that’s you, then the card could definitely be a fit.

Here at TPG, we’re all about maximizing every dollar you spend. Often, you can accomplish that by using the best credit card to enjoy the highest return for a specific purchase. But sometimes, you can go a step further.
Enter “double dipping,” or the practice of earning two different types of points on a single transaction. Taking advantage of double-dipping opportunities will help you accelerate your points-earning — bringing you that much closer to your dream award trip.
Below, we’ve outlined some of our top double-dipping opportunities that you can (and should) work into your everyday points practices.
Use online shopping portals
One of the simplest ways to double dip is to use shopping portals for your online purchases. These third-party sites partner with various retailers to give you points, miles or cash back when you click through their links. This is in addition to the points and miles you earn from putting the transaction on your credit card. So, you earn one bonus from the portal and another from your card.
No matter what type of points you’re trying to earn, there’s likely a portal out there that will suit your needs. Several airlines and hotel chains have their own portals, as does Chase Ultimate Rewards. Meanwhile, Rakuten allows you to receive your earnings in the form of American Express Membership Rewards points as an alternative to its usual cash back. You can even earn a one-time $30 bonus by joining Rakuten and spending $30 in the first 90 days.
Not sure which portal to use? Try using a shopping portal aggregator such as Cashback Monitor to compare earning rates across numerous portals for a given retailer.
Join restaurant rewards programs
Dining out can be a lucrative activity by itself, with cards such as the American Express® Gold Card offering 4 points per dollar on worldwide restaurant purchases. But it’s also an opportunity to double dip using airline and hotel dining rewards programs.
Once you register, participating restaurants will automatically award you points or miles when you pay for a meal with a linked credit card. Once again, these earnings are on top of the points or miles you net just for purchasing with your credit card.
There’s just one key thing to remember: Each of your credit cards can only be registered for one dining program, so you can’t earn through two airline or hotel programs for a single purchase.

Earn more with Uber and Lyft
Whether you use Uber or Lyft, you can make your rides more valuable by linking certain rewards accounts to earn points on every ride.
With Lyft, you have several choices when it comes to earning bonus points or miles, though you must select one of the following as your designated loyalty rewards partner:
Note that Chase also partners with Lyft. So, in addition to selecting one of the above programs, you can use an eligible card — like the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred Card — to earn up to 10 points per dollar spent on the platform. Sapphire Reserve cardholders also enjoy complimentary Lyft Pink All Access for two years.
Meanwhile with Uber, you can link your Marriott Bonvoy account and earn the following:
6 points per dollar on Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders of $40 or more delivered to a hotel in Marriott’s portfolio
3 points per dollar on rides with UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber SUV and Uber Black
2 points per dollar on all other Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders above $40.
Make sure you’re also using a credit card with a great return on travel purchases; for instance, the American Express® Green Card, which offers 3 points per dollar spent on travel and transit purchases, including ride-hailing services.

Rent with Airbnb
Make your Airbnb stays more valuable by booking them through Delta Air Lines’ or British Airways’ online portals. Simply choose a program and click the booking button on its dedicated Airbnb page to rack up extra miles. You’ll earn 1 mile per dollar if you go through Delta SkyMiles and 3 Avios per dollar if you book through British Airways Executive Club. So, expensive Airbnb bookings can quickly add up to award flights.
Like with Uber and Lyft, make sure to pay with a travel credit card that earns a bonus on vacation rentals to maximize your points-earning.

Earn bonus United miles with MileagePlus X
This app provides endless double-dipping possibilities for those looking to rack up United miles. It awards you bonus miles for buying electronic gift cards through the app, which you can later use online or in person at shops and restaurants. This is particularly great for merchants not included in popular bonus categories on credit cards.
The deal is even sweeter for those with a cobranded United credit card, like the United Explorer Card. If you link your United card to the app, you’ll earn a 25% mileage bonus for every gift card you buy, whether or not you use that card to pay for the purchase.
The best part? With MileagePlus X, you can actually take things to the next level for a triple dip. Simply buy a gift card through the app — earning points from the app and points for the transaction on your credit card — and then use that gift card to make an online purchase while utilizing a shopping portal.

Leverage the American Airlines and Hyatt partnership
American Airlines and World of Hyatt have a partnership offering reciprocal points-earning opportunities to elite loyalty program members. Hyatt elites can earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent on qualifying American flights. American elites can earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent on qualifying Hyatt stays — all on top of the points and miles they’d normally earn when flying American or staying at a Hyatt.
Luckily, it doesn’t take much to nab Hyatt elite status. Just take out the World of Hyatt Credit Card for automatic Discoverist status to participate.

Give RewardsPlus a go
Long before Hyatt and American joined forces, United and Marriott partnered to offer their members elevated benefits and bonus points through the RewardsPlus program.
With this program, United Gold (or higher) elites automatically receive Marriott Bonvoy Gold elite status, while Marriott Titanium and Ambassador elites automatically receive United Premier Silver status. Of course, it’s relatively easy to get Marriott Gold status with credit cards — including The Platinum Card® from American Express or the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card. As a result, top-tier Marriott elites get the better end of this deal. Enrollment is required for select benefits.
In addition to reciprocal elite benefits, all members enjoy extra miles when transferring Marriott points to United, regardless of status. While most (but not all) of Marriott’s transfer partners receive a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 Marriott points transferred, United members get 10,000 bonus miles for transferring 60,000 points. That means you can effectively convert 2 Marriott points to 1 United mile.
Leverage retail loyalty programs
While they won’t get you first-class tickets or luxury hotel stays, many sports retailers, restaurants, office supply stores and pet supply stores offer loyalty programs that you can maximize when purchasing. Most of these programs give you rewards in the form of future discounts (e.g., spend $100 and get a $5 coupon) on top of the standard earnings you’d get from using your credit card.
If you’re not familiar with these programs, you can check out our list of the nine most underrated loyalty programs.

Credit card offers and discounts
Applying for a new credit card typically comes with a large number of points or miles as a welcome bonus (after you meet the minimum spending requirement, of course). However, once you’ve opened a card, there are a number of other ways to earn bonus rewards or unlock discounts on everyday purchases.
Most of the major issuers offer a program along these lines, including:
These are targeted to each individual cardholder, and you typically must activate them before making a purchase. You also may find several obscure merchants with whom you have no intention of doing business. However, by frequently checking your online accounts, you may be able to find some good opportunities for bonuses or savings.
Here’s just a sampling of the offers that TPG staffers currently have on their cards:
An Amex offer to earn 5 extra American Express Membership Rewards points per dollar spent, up to 1,000 points
An Amex offer to earn 50% back on purchases with Dropbox
Multiple Chase offers to earn 10% back when you spend $100 with multiple Marriott brands — including Autograph Collection, SpringHill Suites and Renaissance Hotels
A Citi offer to earn 5% back on Lyft rides
You can also stack these with many of the other “dips” on this list to create a double dip or triple dip. For example, stack an Amex Offer at a nearby restaurant with a dining rewards program or an online purchase with a shopping portal.
Bottom line
There are plenty of great ways to rack up points and miles quickly, but everyday spending often gets overlooked as one of them. There are many concrete things you can start doing today that will unlock a world of rewards for tomorrow.
With these double-dipping efforts as a part of your overall strategy, you’ll build your account balances and get that much closer to your next award trip.

Qatar Airways is one of the world’s most premium airlines, with an excellent business-class product and great lounges at its hub in Doha, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH). The airline has a huge route network as well, with routes to major U.S. airports like Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).
The Oneworld member has its own loyalty program called Qatar Airways Privilege Club and uses the popular points currency Avios. With this loyalty program, you can earn and redeem miles when flying Qatar Airways and its Oneworld partners. Plus, it has three elite status levels that give frequent flyers special privileges like entry to lounges and access to preferred seating.
New to the carrier’s Privilege Club? You’re in the right place. Here is everything you need to know about the program.
What are Avios?
Avios is the points currency used by the following loyalty programs:
Avios can be transferred between any of these programs at a ratio of 1:1, so each Avios is theoretically worth the same in each program. However, there are different ways in which Avios can be redeemed in each program, meaning the savvy reader can achieve different values depending on which program they are used in … and how.
This guide focuses on Avios earned and redeemed through the Qatar Airways Privilege Club program.
Elite status
Qatar Airways has three elite status tiers beyond the entry-level Burgundy level: Silver, Gold and Platinum. You can qualify for these tiers by earning a certain number of Qpoints by flying with Qatar Airways and its partners. To view how many Qpoints you’ll earn with each flight, use the Qatar Airways’ My Calculator.
Below is a look at how many Qpoints you’ll need to qualify for each tier. You must earn these within a single 12-month period. Once you’ve qualified for Silver, you can upgrade by earning a higher number of points within 12 months of earning Silver. This is considered your “renewal date.”

Silver
150
Gold
300
Platinum
600
Interestingly enough, fewer Qpoints are required to renew your elite status. You can either earn a smaller number of Qpoints in 12 months or a higher number in 24 months — each calculated from your renewal date.

If you fail to meet renewal requirements, you’ll drop to the tier you did qualify for.
Additionally, you must earn at least 20% of your Qpoints on flights marketed or operated by Qatar Airways to qualify. Alternatively, you can fly four Qatar Airways segments on 12-month renewals or eight Qatar Airways segments on 24-month renewals to meet this requirement.
Elite status benefits
Silver (Oneworld Ruby) is Qatar’s lowest elite status tier and includes the following benefits:
Discounted seat reservation
50% bonus Avios
Family member bonus
Lounge access (no guests)
Two guest lounge passes
Free checked baggage
Priority boarding and check-in
Personalized bag tags
Priority wait-listing

Gold status (Oneworld Sapphire) includes all Silver benefits, plus the following perks:
Preferred seating
Guaranteed economy awards
75% bonus Avios
5% discount on redemptions
Lounge access (one guest)
Four guest lounge passes
Priority baggage handling
Extra baggage
Priority phone support
Al Maha Gold Service
Qatar’s top-tier Platinum elite status is the equivalent of the valuable Oneworld Emerald status. This tier includes all Gold status benefits, plus the following perks:

How to earn Avios with Qatar Airways Privilege Club
Citi ThankYou Rewards
The easiest way for U.S. travelers to earn Qatar Avios is by transferring Citi ThankYou Rewards points to Privilege Club. Points transfer to Qatar Avios at a 1:1 ratio, though transfers usually take around two days to process.
You can earn Citi ThankYou Rewards with the Citi Premier® Card (see rates and fees). Note that if you’re still holding on to the Citi Prestige® Card, which is no longer open to new applicants, you also have the full transfer benefits.
That said, like Chase Ultimate Rewards, you can combine your Citi ThankYou Rewards points into a single account for select products, allowing you to effectively “convert” your fixed-value earnings from cards like the Citi Rewards+® Card (see rates and fees) and the Citi® Double Cash Card (see rates and fees) into fully transferable ThankYou rewards.
The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Transfer from other Avios programs
You can also transfer Avios from British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus or Aer Lingus AerClub at a 1:1 rate in any direction.
The following cards all currently offer strong welcome bonuses that you could easily convert to Avios in these three programs (and then convert to Privilege Club):
American Express® Gold Card: Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first six months of account opening. Terms apply.
The Platinum Card® from American Express: Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $6,000 on purchases within the first six months of card membership. Check to see if you’re targeted for a 125,000-point welcome offer through CardMatch (offer subject to change at any time). Terms apply.
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees): Earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.
Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees): Earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Card: Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
Chase Sapphire Reserve: Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
Ink Business Preferred Credit Card: Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
You can also purchase Avios, which are often on sale.
Transfer from Marriott Bonvoy
Alternatively, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at a 3:1 ratio. As an added perk, you’ll get a 5,000-mile bonus when you transfer 60,000 points. This means transferring 60,000 points nets you 25,000 Privilege Club Avios, a nice chunk of miles.
Earn Avios by flying Qatar Airways
You can also earn Avios when taking paid Qatar-operated flights around the world. The number of Avios you earn depends on your cabin and ticketed fare class. Qatar Airways Privilege Club still awards Avios based on the distance flown, but bear in mind that most discounted fare classes will earn at a much lower rate than higher-tier fares.
Here’s a table that details how you’ll accrue Avios on Qatar flights.
To see information for a specific itinerary, you can use Qatar’s online calculator.
Earn Avios with program partners
You can also earn Qatar Avios for flights on any of the following Oneworld airlines:
Alaska Airlines
American Airlines
British Airways
Cathay Pacific
Finnair
Iberia, including Iberia Express and Air Nostrum
Japan Airlines
Malaysia Airlines
Qantas, including QantasLink and Jetconnect
Royal Air Maroc
Royal Jordanian Airlines
S7 Airlines (currently suspended)
SriLankan Airlines
Privilege Club also partners with the following airlines outside of Oneworld:
These flights follow a similar earning scheme to Qatar Airways, but you can use the aforementioned calculator for more details.

Booking Qatar Airways flights with miles
Qatar Airways has what is widely considered one of the world’s best business-class products with its award-winning Qsuite product. Even the carrier’s economy product is a solid option. Here are the prices for popular one-way itineraries per person on any date (there is no peak or off-peak pricing).

Availability can be limited, especially in premium cabins, so the further in advance you can book, the more likely you are to find one or more seats on the dates you need.
Upgrading Qatar Airways flights with miles
You can also use your Qatar miles to upgrade paid flights operated by the airline. Like award tickets, you must use the airline’s calculator to find the cost of upgrading a specific flight based on your route and fare class.
For example, you can upgrade the cheapest economy class ticket from the East Coast to Doha to a business-class seat for 55,000 miles one-way. This isn’t much cheaper than booking an award ticket, so we recommend steering clear of these unless you have booked an extremely cheap cash fare.
Additionally, you need to find available upgrade space in order to upgrade your ticket. You can do this by calling the airline or attempting to upgrade a ticket online.
Booking partner flights with miles
Earlier this year, Qatar lowered the award prices for many partner-operated flights, bringing them in line with other Avios currencies. Here’s the award chart for all Privilege Club partner redemptions, including Oneworld and other carriers:

The award chart closely resembles British Airways’ partner award chart, meaning both programs have the same sweet spots:
Short-haul redemptions on American Airlines or Alaska Airlines start from just 6,000 Avios each way with no peak or off-peak pricing.
American Airlines regularly flies internationally configured wide-body aircraft on domestic routes, including 777s and 787s. For example, American’s flagship 777-300ER operates some flights between JFK and Miami International Airport (MIA), a 1,089-mile journey. You could book a business-class award on this flight for only 16,500 Avios, which is a great deal.
Fly from major West Coast cities to the Hawaiian Islands for just 13,000 Avios on American Airlines or Alaska Airlines.
Unfortunately, ticketing these awards is challenging. Unless you’re redeeming your Qatar Avios for an American Airlines or a British Airways flight, you won’t be able to book your partner redemption on Qatar’s website. To redeem your Qatar Avios on a partner flight, you can call Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 800-988-6128. Know, though, that the call center is only open during working hours on weekdays.
You can also see flight partner schedules by selecting “book award ticket” on Qatar’s website. You can then submit a request to book a partner flight, and a Qatar agent will process your reservation if there’s award space. We don’t recommend this option since award space can rapidly change. Instead, we suggest transferring Avios to British Airways so you have more partner flight options you can book online.
Related: The best ways to redeem British Airways Avios
Other redemption options
You can also use your Qatar Avios for merchandise, duty-free items, hotel stays and more. We generally recommend staying away from these types of redemptions, as they’ll almost always give you less value than a free flight, often dropping the value to half a cent per mile (or less).
Bottom line
Qatar Airways has fabulous products on the ground and in the air. If you have never flown long-haul business class, you can’t go wrong with the world-famous Qsuites to Doha and beyond.
While the program previously flew under the radar due to some uncompetitive pricing and complex booking options, adopting the already popular Avios currency in 2022 has opened up new ways to easily earn and redeem Avios in the program. The ability to easily transfer Avios between four different airline loyalty programs makes the program much more attractive, especially as Privilege Club now has the same short-haul sweet spots that are so popular when redeeming Avios through the British Airways Executive Club program.
If you’re on the lookout for a full service online bank, you might come across CIT Bank. Founded in 2009, CIT Bank is now a division of First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company, which is a leading financial institution with more than $218 billion in assets.
The bank offers a variety of products, including savings and checking accounts, CDs, custodial accounts, and home loans. It stands out for its competitive interest rates that you may not find at traditional banks as well as no monthly maintenance fees or monthly service fees.
While there are no physical branches, live chat support on CIT’s website and mobile app as well as automated phone assistance is available 24/7. If you prefer to speak to a CIT representative directly, you can reach them during regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
CIT Bank doesn’t have an ATM network but it will reimburse you up to $30 per month if you incur out-of-network ATM fees. Rest assured that it’s insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for up to $250,000 for an individual account or $500,000 for joint accounts, meaning your money will be safe, no matter what happens to the bank. Let’s take a closer look at CIT Bank so you can decide whether it makes sense for your unique situation.
CIT Bank Pros and Cons
Before you move forward and open an account with CIT Bank, it’s a good idea to consider the benefits and drawbacks.
Pros
Competitive rates: Since CIT Bank has less overhead costs than brick and mortar financial institutions, its yields on deposit accounts and several CIT Bank CDs are competitive. It can allow you to make the most out of your hard earned money.
No fees: Unlike other bank accounts, CIT deposit accounts do not have any monthly maintenance fees, or other common fees. You can use the money you save on fees to meet your financial goals faster.
ATM fee reimbursement: CIT Bank reimburses you up to $30 per month for out-of-network ATM fees. This means you can withdraw cash from any ATM without worrying about high costs.
Small minimum deposit requirements: You don’t need a lot of cash to open up CIT Bank accounts. Many. of the accounts only require $100 to start.
24/7 customer service: CIT’s live chat and automated phone support is available round-the-clock. If you have a question or concern, you’ll be able to receive assistance right away.
Cons
No physical branch locations: CIT is an online only bank, meaning there are no branches for an in-person banking experience. If you decide to bank with CIT, you should feel comfortable with online banking and mobile banking.
Limited product selection: Compared to other financial institutions, CIT’s product line is slim as there are no credit cards, car loans, or IRAs. Fortunately, its lineup of checking accounts, savings accounts, custodial accounts, CDs, and mortgages is still impressive.
Low rates on select CD accounts: Some CDs have lower rates than you may be able to find elsewhere. The good news is you can calculate your returns in advance and won’t have to worry about fluctuations in the market.
No checkbooks: CIT’s eChecking accounts do not include checkbooks. However, you can use CIT to pay other individuals and businesses electronically via Zelle, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.
CIT Bank Products
CIT Bank offers a variety of products to help you meet different financial goals. Here’s an overview of each of its current offerings.
Checking Accounts
You can open the CIT Bank eChecking account with as little as $100. It’s unique in that it offers interest on your balance. To earn as much interest as possible, you’ll need to keep at least $25,000 in your account.
As an online checking account holder, you’ll get a debit card with chip technology and 24/7 account access. Plus, you’ll be able to deposit checks and make unlimited withdrawals with the CIT Bank mobile app. In addition, you’ll have access to Zelle, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay. Unfortunately, the eChecking account doesn’t come with paper checks.
Savings Accounts
CIT Bank offers a few CIT Bank savings accounts you might want to explore., including the CIT Bank Savings Connect, the Savings Builder account, and Platinum Savings account. The CIT Bank Platinum Savings account provides an interest rate of up to 12 times the national average.
There are no fees and interest compounds daily so that you can earn as much as possible. All you need is $100 to open this account. This account is ideal if you’d like to meet your savings goals quickly without a lot of effort.
With the CIT Savings Connect account, you can reap the benefits of a great interest rate and enjoy easy access to your funds. Several noteworthy perks of the Savings Connect include an interest rate of up to 11 times the national average, online banking and mobile banking, remote check deposit, and no monthly service fees.
The CIT Savings Builder is a two-tiered CIT savings account with an interest rate that’s twice the national average. As long as you make at least one $100 deposit per month or maintain a balance of $25,000 or more, you can earn a competitive rate on it. Since the Saving Builder account earns daily compounding interest, you’ll be able to maximize your earning potential. Just like the other CIT saving accounts, the Savings Builder doesn’t have any account opening or maintenance fees.
CIT Money Market Account
The CIT Bank money market account is the way to go if your ultimate goal is to grow your savings and stash your emergency fund. With a minimum opening deposit of $100, you can earn more than two times the national average.
In addition, there is no monthly service fee and you can deposit checks and transfer money using the CIT Bank mobile app. In addition, you’ll be able to earn twice the national average. Just like with the other accounts, you may only make six transactions per statement cycle and can deposit checks and make transfers with the CIT mobile banking app.
CDs
Certificates of Deposit (CDs) might be worth exploring if you like the idea of guaranteed returns. CIT offers several types of CDs, including:
Term CDs: Term CDs are traditional CDs that are widely seen at other banks and range from six months to 60 months. With a term CD, you can lock in an interest rate for a certain time period, regardless of what happens to the market. The longer term you choose, the more interest you’ll earn. You’ll need at least $1,000 to open a term CD.
No-Penalty CDs: Most CDs require you to lock up your money for a set period of time. If you’d like to access it before, you’ll have to pay a penalty. A no-penalty CD is exactly what it sounds like: a CD that doesn’t charge a penalty if you withdraw funds before your term is up. It requires a $1,000 minimum opening deposit and you may be able to access your money after seven days.
Jumbo CDs: If you have a lot of cash saved up, a jumbo CD might make sense. It requires $100,000 to open and doesn’t come with any account opening or monthly maintenance fees. Its terms range from two to five years and the longer you keep your money in one, the higher rate you can lock in.
RampUp CDs: RampUp CDs are for current CIT Bank customers with CDs. With a RampUp CD, you can increase your rate one time during your term if CIT Bank raises rates after you have already opened your account. You’ll need to reach out to CIT Bank directly to learn more about what type of rate you might qualify for.
Custodial Accounts
Custodial accounts are opened under the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (UTMA). If you have a child under 18, a CIT custodial account can help you save money for their future. You’ll serve as the custodian and have complete control of the account until your child turns 18 or a later age that you designate.
You can contribute as much money as you’d like and may not have to pay federal taxes on part of the earnings. With a custodial account, your child may enjoy money for college, a vehicle, home down payment, and other expenses that can steer them toward a bright future.
Home Loans
CIT Loans does offer mortgages but you have to submit your contact information on its website to start the process and learn more about your options. You’ll need to state the value of the home you’re interested in, your desired loan amount, your zip code, and your credit score range. If you already bank with CIT, you may be eligible for two relationship discounts that lead to a lower rate.
Ten percent of your balance in a CIT bank account may give you 0.1% off your rate. If you keep 25% of your balance in a qualifying cit bank savings account, you might lock in a 0.2% discount. Since the CIT website has limited information about its mortgages online, it’s a good idea to fill out the form and request further details.
CIT Bank Fees
As we mentioned above, CIT Bank doesn’t charge any opening fees or monthly maintenance fees. Also, you can open most accounts with only $100. The bank won’t charge any domestic ATM fees and will reimburse you up to $30 per month for any fees you incur for using other ATMs. If you use an international ATM, however, CIT Bank will charge a monthly fee of 1% plus the fee imposed by the ATM provider. Other fees you should be aware of include:
Debit card replacement fee: 100
Overdraft fee: $30
Returned deposit fee: $10
Bill stop payment fee: $30
Outgoing wire transfer fee: $10
CIT Mobile App
With the CIT mobile banking app, you can bank on the go from just about anywhere. The mobile app is versatile so you can use it to log into our accounts via a password or fingerprint. You can also transfer funds between CIT accounts and an external bank account and take a photo to deposit checks.
Plus, the app allows you to check your balances and transaction history, send and receive money via Zelle, and make secure payments with Samsung Pay and Apple Pay. If you’d like, you can sign up for text banking, which will give you the chance to check your account balances and transactions through text. Many reviewers state that the CIT mobile app is very intuitive so you shouldn’t have any trouble using it, even if you don’t consider yourself tech savvy.
CIT Bank Reputation
Before you go ahead and open a CIT Bank account, you might want to know about its reputation. It has an A- rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB). On TrustPilot, CIT earned 2.3 out of 5 stars due to negative customer reviews.
Most of the negative reviews have to do with poor customer service and difficulty opening deposit accounts. The majority of the five-star reviews praise CIT for a convenient banking experience and fast response times from the customer service team. You can always try out CIT Bank and move on to another financial institution if you’re unsatisfied for any reason.
How to Access Your Money
Even though there are no physical branches, CIT Bank makes it easy to fund your account and withdraw money.
Deposits
You can fund your account through these methods.
Mobile app: With the mobile app, you can deposit checks and make transfers quickly and conveniently.
ACH transfer: The simplest way to fund your account is to transfer funds electronically from your external bank accounts. Note that it may take up to two business days for the money to show up.
Check: You can mail a physical check to CIT Bank.
Wire transfer: CIT Bank accepts funds via wire transfer.
Withdrawals
Here’s how you can make withdrawals:
CIT Savings Connect: The CIT Savings Connect allows you to make up to six withdrawals or transfers per statement cycle. Keep in mind that any withdrawal and transfer requests you submit via mail don’t count toward this limit. The same goes for telephone requested withdrawals and transfers.
ACH transfer: Free ACH transfers between your account and an external bank account are available.
Check: You can call CIT and ask them to mail you a check without paying a fee.
How to Get Started
To open an account with CIT Bank, visit their website and click the green “Open Account” button on the home page. You can complete the application in 5 minutes or less. Be prepared to provide the following information:
Your home address
Your phone number
Your email address
Your Social Security number
You’ll also need to fund your new account. You can transfer funds from an external checking or savings account, wire funds to your new account, or mail a check to the following address: CIT Bank, N.A. Attn: Deposit Services, P.O. Box 7056, Pasadena, CA 91109.
Lastly, CIT will make two test micro-deposit to your account. You’ll receive an email within three business days that asks you to verify them. The bank will process your transaction as soon as you do.
CIT Bank Alternatives
While CIT Bank offers a lot of benefits, it’s not right for everyone. If you decide CIT isn’t the best choice for your unique needs and preferences, consider these alternative options. Some are online banks while others are traditional financial institutions with brick and mortar locations.
Ally Bank
Like CIT Bank, Ally Bank is an online only bank that offers low fees and high rates. Its product lineup includes checking accounts, savings accounts, CDs, credit cards, mortgages, car loans, personal loans, and retirement accounts. Perhaps the greatest benefit of Ally Bank is that it doesn’t charge any fees.
Capital One
Capital One has approximately 300 branches in select states and more than 50 Capital One Cafes that allow customers to open accounts, deposit cash and checks, and hang out. It also offers no-fee access to more than 70,000 ATMs and attractive rates on savings accounts and CDs. This bank might make sense if you want competitive rates but prefer the option of an in-person banking experience that is not available with CIT.
Chime
Chime isn’t a traditional bank or online bank like CIT. It’s a mobile banking app that provides banking services through Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Stride Bank. The Chime checking account comes with exciting perks like automated savings tools, early direct deposits and free access to over 60,000 fee free ATMs across the country. The Chime high yield savings account is also a solid choice thanks to its competitive interest rate and lack of monthly fees as well as minimum balance requirements.
Citibank
Citibank sounds like CIT Bank but is one of the largest banks in the world. It has hundreds of locations in the U.S. and thousands overseas. If you frequently travel abroad for business or pleasure and want access to branches and ATMs, it should be on your radar. It offers a plethora of accounts but they do come with fees. The good news is many of the fees can be waived if you meet certain balance or direct deposit requirements.
Discover Bank
When most people think of Discover, credit cards come to mind first. But Discover is actually an online bank that’s similar to CIT Bank. Its plethora of products include checking and savings accounts, personal loans, student loans, home equity loans, and mortgage refinancing. Discover also offers cash back on debit card purchases and, of course, credit cards with various rewards.
PNC Bank
PNC Bank is a traditional bank with brick and mortar locations. Some of its most popular products are the PNC Standard Savings account and Virtual Wallet, which combines a traditional checking and savings account. PNC also offers numerous CDs and free budgeting tools. It offers online banking, like CIT Bank, plus a robust mobile app.
Huntington Bank
Huntington Bank is a leading bank in the Midwest with branches in states like Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. It provides checking and savings accounts, personal loans, auto loans, mortgages, credit cards, insurance, and investment options. Other perks include a 24-hour grace period, all day deposits, and online bill pay. You can download the Huntington app and bank on the go, like you’d be able to with CIT.
Bank of America
Known as one of the largest banks in the country, Bank of America has more than 6,000 locations throughout the U.S. Just like CIT Bank, it has a highly rated mobile banking app. In addition to checking and savings accounts, it has a Preferred Rewards program, which comes with perks like higher interest rates, waived fees, and cash back for certain transactions.
TD Bank
TD Bank has a strong presence in the Eastern part of the U.S. It offers many of the same products as CIT, such as personal checking accounts, personal savings accounts, and mortgages accounts. TD stands out for its generous bonuses and minimal fees. We can’t forget its intuitive mobile app, which makes it a breeze to bank on the go.
Citizens Bank
Citizens Bank is a national bank with locations in the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. Just like CIT Bank, it doesn’t charge monthly maintenance fees as long as you meet specific criteria, like making one deposit per month.
Additionally, many accounts are free of minimum balance requirements. In addition, Citizen offers the Peace of Mind overdraft protection program which will send you an alert if you overdraft your account. Other perks include an overdraft fee grace period and early paycheck deposit and early paycheck deposit.
Bottom Line
If you feel comfortable with online banking and would like to take advantage of the best annual percentage yield APY available, CIT Bank is a great choice. You’ll enjoy access to a plethora of products and watch your money work for you. While you won’t get to bank in-person, you can perform pretty much any banking task online or on your mobile phone via the CIT banking app.

A message from our partner: Your miles are now worth at least 15% more with the new Delta Vacations. Click here to learn more about redeeming miles for your next getaway.
Since Delta eliminated its award charts in 2015, the SkyMiles program has become notably more unpredictable and, at times, outrageously expensive. With business-class flights on long-haul routes often priced at over 450,000 SkyMiles, it’s understandable to feel like your SkyMiles balance holds little value.
But if you have a stockpile of Delta miles, they are far from worthless. There are still excellent redemptions available, particularly during the carrier’s award sales.
So, let’s explore some strategies for maximizing the value of your Delta SkyMiles.
Redeem on Delta flights
You can use your Delta SkyMiles to book Delta, Delta Connection and Delta Shuttle flights. Since Delta uses dynamic pricing, award rates can vary significantly. For example, in November, one-way main cabin award rates from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) range between 16,000 and 49,000 miles.
Even though Thanksgiving travel skews award prices over these dates, significant price volatility is normal. If you want to maximize your SkyMiles, flexibility is important.
Taxes and fees are generally reasonable on Delta tickets. Expect to pay $5.60 per person in taxes and fees on most domestic tickets and international tickets departing the U.S. However, Delta adds carrier-imposed surcharges on many awards that start outside the U.S., most notably those originating in Europe.
Keep an eye out for SkyMiles deals
A great option for redeeming Delta miles is taking advantage of SkyMiles deals. These deals typically apply to specific city pairs, so it may be necessary to book positioning flights to fully maximize these promotions.
Last year, Delta offered a flash sale with round-trip flights for just 5,000 SkyMiles. The airline recently offered round-trip airfare to Auckland Airport (AKL) from most major U.S. airports for just 37,400 SkyMiles round-trip.

If you have no immediate use for your SkyMiles, you may be best off saving them for the next big SkyMiles deal. Just be sure to keep an eye on Delta’s SkyMiles deals page.
Save at least 15% with select Delta credit cards
If you have an eligible Delta credit card, you can save 15% on Delta-operated award flights when you use your miles and pay the taxes and fees with the card. This can be a great option to reduce the price you pay on Delta award tickets — and a major reason to open (and keep) a Delta card in your wallet.

Rebook when prices drop (or cancel when your plans change)
Once you’ve used your miles on a Delta flight, be sure to keep your eyes on the award rates. As long as you’re not on a basic economy ticket, Delta offers the ability to rebook flights when prices drop, and you’ll receive the mileage difference back in your account. You should even be able to do this right from the Delta App.
And if your plans change, you should be able to cancel your flight for a full refund of both the miles and the taxes and fees — again, unless you’re on a basic economy ticket.

Redeem on partner flights
Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance and has three non-alliance airline partners. This gives you more flexibility to redeem your SkyMiles on various airlines and routes across the globe. Here is the complete list of Delta’s airline partners:
SkyTeam partners
Aerolinas Argentinas
Aeromexico
Air Europa
Air France
China Airlines
China Eastern Airlines
Czech Airlines
Delta Air Lines
Garuda Indonesia
ITA Airways
Kenya Airways
KLM
Korean Air
Middle East Airlines
Saudia
Tarom
Vietnam Airlines
Virgin Atlantic
Xiamen Air
Non-alliance partners
Cape Air
Hawaiian Airlines
WestJet
Although there are no online award charts, partner awards generally have a specific price range. For example, one-way business-class airfare from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) ranges between 42,000 and 44,000 miles.
Another great option is WestJet-operated flights from the U.S. to Canada. Round-trip award tickets in economy class still clock in at 25,000 miles plus ~$60 in taxes and fees, and availability is relatively widespread, especially when you book in advance.
These flights routinely cost more than $500, giving you a redemption value of more than 2 cents per miles.
Delta also has some appealing non-U.S. partner sweet spots.
For example, Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) on Air France business class generally costs around 42,500 miles plus 120 United Arab Emirates Dirham (around $32). In comparison, Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) or Haneda Airport (HND) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) costs 35,000 miles plus up to 6,910 Japanese Yen (around $50) for a connecting business-class Korean Air or China Airlines flight.

Delta can increase these rates at any time, and they have done so on multiple occasions. To obtain the current award price, you will need to contact Delta directly or search the website.
While Delta has tried to improve its website to display partner awards, it may still have limitations, particularly when booking mixed-cabin itineraries. The website often prioritizes Delta-operated flights, which may not be ideal if you have specific flight requirements. We recommend searching for flights segment by segment and being prepared to call Delta if the website doesn’t offer the desired trip options.

Redeem for upgrades
You can also use your SkyMiles for upgrades to a higher class of service. If you have a confirmed Delta-marketed and operated flight, you should have the option to pay cash or use miles to upgrade your flight directly on Delta’s website.
If you redeem your miles for an upgrade using this method, you’ll generally get around 1 cent per mile, which is lower than our 1.41 cent valuation of Delta SkyMiles. This could be a viable option if you have a surplus of SkyMiles and no immediate plans for their use. However, we generally recommend prioritizing award flight redemptions, as discussed in previous sections.
You can also use Delta miles to upgrade specific flights operated by Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic or Aeromexico. This option is subject to fare class requirements and is available only on select routes each partner operates. For more details, please refer to Delta’s “upgrade with miles” page.
You’ll also want to make sure there’s upgrade inventory available. Fortunately, all four partner airlines mentioned above publish business-class award inventory on ExpertFlyer (owned by TPG’s parent company, Red Ventures), allowing easy searching and setting up alerts if the desired seats are unavailable when you book your flight.

Redeem for Delta Vacations
Delta Vacations recently enhanced redemption rates for SkyMiles members looking to use their rewards for vacations. You’ll get at least 1.15 cents when you use your miles to cover a Delta Vacation.
In practice, however, you can occasionally find better redemption rates.
A two-day escape from Los Angeles to Hawaii with lodging at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach costs $1,797.90. Alternatively, you can redeem 143,832 SkyMiles to book this vacation (a 1.25-cent redemption rate).
In this example, Delta also includes a round-trip transfer from the airport to the hotel, whether you pay with miles or cash.

How to earn Delta miles quickly
You’ll need to have SkyMiles to take advantage of the redemptions mentioned above. Fortunately, there are several ways to increase your balance. One of the simplest ways to earn Delta miles is by using Delta’s cobranded American Express credit cards (terms apply). Here are some of the current welcome offers available for these cards:

Remember that any of these cards include access to the TakeOff 15 benefit, which will save you at least 15% on Delta-operated award flights.
You can also transfer American Express Membership Rewards points from cards like the American Express® Gold Card and The Platinum Card® from American Express to Delta SkyMiles at a 1:1 ratio. However, you’ll be subject to an excise tax offset fee. And Marriott Bonvoy points transfer to Delta SkyMiles at a 3:1 ratio.

Bottom line
Although the value of Delta SkyMiles has decreased in recent years, there are still excellent deals to be found. While the program has been moving toward a redemption value of 1 cent per mile, you can still surpass that, especially with SkyMiles deals and Delta Vacations.
