The bad news is the holiday season is just about over. The even worse news is that it comes with a whole lot of cleanup and decoration organization. But don’t worry, there’s some good news here, too. Right now, QVC is having a sale on a variety of storage solutions for ornaments, artificial trees, wrapping paper, and more for up to 62 percent off.
QVC’s storage deals include items for all of your holiday essentials to help you clean up faster, stay organized, and keep everything in one space-saving place. Look for collapsible wreath boxes and ornament storage in 64-piece or 72-piece options. You can also find artificial tree bags starting at $28, plus multi-purpose containers to hold lights, gift bags, and other items you won’t need until next year.
Home Reflections 7.5-Foot and Under Tree Storage Bag With Wheels, $50 (was $83)
Periea 64-Piece Collapsible Ornament Storage Box
When it’s not in use, this ornament storage box is completely collapsible, and when it is, it keeps everything tidy thanks to its sturdy design with inserted metal rods and four divided trays to hold ornaments. You can safely transport it to its permanent spot during the year using the carry handles, and if you need a larger size, grab the 72-piece version that’s also on sale. The box is available in six designs, including red berry, gold floral, and green tartan.
Tidy & Co. Three-Piece Multi-Purpose Collapsible Storage Set
Another collapsible storage set is this one from Tidy & Co. that comes with three pieces—two small and one large cube—for storing decorations like ornaments, figurines, holiday trains, candles, lights, and more. Each box has a clear window pane to easily identify what’s inside, and they can be used with or without the inserts. One shopper said the “boxes were very sturdy, and if packed right, hold lots of items.” Another reviewer has found other uses for them, including their “yarn, sewing” and “cords from [their] TVs.”
Santa’s Bags Wrapping Paper Storage Tube
If you overestimated how many rolls of wrapping paper you would need, keep the excess neat for next year in this storage tube. It has a convenient carrying handle and zip top design so nothing can escape or become unraveled. The bag can hold up to twelve 40-inch wrapping paper rolls, more if yours are half-used. One shopper noted that this is a “really inexpensive way to organize,” and that now, their closet is “no longer” filled with “ripped wrapping paper.” Another reviewer shared that it “takes up very little space.”
Whether you need to pack up your tree lights, ornaments, or holiday garland, this one-size-fits-a lot storage box is a must, and it’s 62 percent off and just $15. The durable bag is made of water-resistant material and measures 41 inches, so it can even fit your longest unused rolls of wrapping paper. Plus, when it’s not in use, you can fold it up so it takes up almost no space.
Home Reflections 7.5-Foot and Under Tree Storage Bag With Wheels
When it’s sadly time to take down the artificial tree and pack it up for next year, grab Home Reflections’ wheeled storage bag that’s 39 percent off. The mesh window provides airflow while the straps keep the tree secure and in place. The bag has wheels to make transporting it up or down stairs as smooth as possible, and it can fit trees that are 7.5 feet tall or smaller.
While few enjoy the cleanup and organization that comes with the end of the holiday season, QVC’s sale on Christmas storage bags and boxes makes the process a little easier—and less costly. Find even more items below.
As many college students will attest, regularly buying food on campus is not only expensive, but often unhealthy. Buying your lunch for 10 dollars a day at the fast food restaurants, pizza joints, and coffee shops on campus can really add up, and most have limited healthy menu options. Taking the time to plan out your lunches and pack healthy meals for college students can make a huge difference in your energy levels throughout the day. Best of all, there are easy meals for college students that you can whip up on a budget.
The following meal plan shows how to eat on a college budget and offers healthy lunch recipes and easy meals for college students. The guide features tips from Jacqueline de Grave, a former student and college athlete who is passionate about cooking and eating well on a budget, and it’s also been reviewed by Kathryn Alp, a registered dietitian.
Monday
Rice and Beans
How to eat on a college budget starts with this quick and easy meal that you can make in a big batch a night or two in advance. It’s just what you’re looking for on a busy week with back-to-back tests and papers. Choose brown rice to hike up your fiber intake and add all sorts of veggies like corn, avocado, tomatoes and peppers for even more nutrition and flavor. Black beans and kidney beans work well, but you can also try other varieties like navy, white or chickpeas. Bean dishes can be perfect healthy meals for college students—and they can be done on a college budget.
Tuesday
Super Salad
It’s time to revamp your tired bowl of greens by topping it with tasty sources of protein and fiber. In addition to your favorite fruits or vegetables, try adding chickpeas, chicken breast, canned tuna or a sliced hard-boiled egg to keep you full throughout the day as you go from class to class. Hemp hearts are another great source of protein that are delicious sprinkled on top of salads. You may even be able to throw one of these together at your cafeteria’s salad bars when you’re on the hunt for easy meals for college students.
One of de Grave’s creations is a super simple orzo pasta salad with ground turkey, veggies, and feta cheese.
“Salads don’t have to be boring,” de Grave says. “I love to have fun mixing up ingredients that vary from pasta salads, chickpea or bean salads, to chicken salad sandwiches or chicken salad on a bed of greens. As long as you are willing to get creative with your ingredients, salads can take on many shapes and flavors and be perfect for light snacks or heartier meals that are easy to carry around.”
Wednesday
Pita Pockets
Sounds like the perfect budget meal to accompany a marathon study session, right? You can also put it on your list of healthy meals for college students. Variations include marinated tofu for vegetarians or sliced chicken breast or pork chop for meat eaters. Stuff the pita with bean sprouts, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, avocado, and Greek yogurt and voila: You’ve got a quick, easy lunch that’s cheaper and healthier than an sandwich or burger at any campus fast food joint. Go ahead and get creative with your fillings.
“I sometimes replace the pita with romaine lettuce,” de Grave says. “Topping it with veggies, chicken, ground turkey, or chicken and homemade dressings is a super simple way to throw together a quick and affordable meal.”
Thursday
Egg Salad and Tuna Sandwich
How to eat on a college budget? Look no further than this mashup of two classic (and inexpensive) sandwich toppers: egg salad and tuna. You can splurge on your favorite veggie toppings. Use low-fat mayonnaise or Greek yogurt and hearty whole grain bread to make this an even healthier option.
“Carbs provide us with the only source of fuel for our brains,” Alp says. “If you eat enough high-quality carbs like whole grains, fruits and vegetables—that’s going to be your brain food,” she adds.
Friday
DIY Fresh Spring Rolls
These are a little bit more time consuming to prepare, but totally worth it if you’re looking for healthy meals for college students. Simply roll up vegetables and your favorite protein in rice paper, and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. You can use any filling you like including chicken breasts, avocado, or cherry tomatoes. Tofu is a great alternative because it can be cheaper than meat and can absorb any flavor, making it very versatile.
Daily Snacks
When learning how to eat on a college budget, it’s important to curb your hunger with healthy snacks throughout the day. For a well-balanced snack, Alp recommends including a food high in protein or fiber combined with carbs from fruits or vegetables. Need a few ideas to get you going? Get started with these:
Healthy Granola Cookies
Granola-based cookies can be tailored to all taste buds. Make them sweet by adding cacao nibs and plenty of dried fruit like cranberries, blueberries, and raisins, or opt for higher protein with peanut butter, coconut flakes, slivered almonds and pumpkin seeds. Buying the dried fruit, nuts and seeds at your nearest bulk store can make them more affordable.
Overnight Oats
Make this delicious and inexpensive snack in a mason jar and leave it in your fridge overnight. You can get creative with this one and add anything from cocoa to pumpkin puree to fresh fruit and peanut butter.
Homemade White Bean Dip
Make this dip in a big batch in advance and store it in sealed containers for up to three days. Serve with pita, sliced veggies or crackers.
Ants on a Log
Nope, it’s not just for kids. This one is a fun, easy meal for college students. Top celery stalks with peanut butter and raisins the good old fashioned way or experiment with other toppings.
If eating on campus is your only option, keep these tips in mind for eating well in a pinch…
Alp says there is one key area where college students often slip up. “Drinking your calories. If I could tell everyone to quit juice, I would,” she says.
Alp suggests avoiding soda or juice because these drinks can contain added sugar that can slow you down over the course of the day. Even so-called “sports drinks” can pack a lot of sugar into just one bottle.
And when you need an extra caffeine kick, consider avoiding energy drinks or sweet coffee drinks. Not only do these drinks cost a pretty penny, many pre-made coffee drinks have more sugar than a can of soda.
“If students choose water over juice, extra sugar in their coffee, energy drinks or pop they would be cutting quite a lot of calories out of their diet,” Alp says.
Because sometimes it’s impossible to avoid the food court when you’re stuck on campus all day, Alp has some guidance for choosing the healthiest option from fast food restaurants.
“Choose tomato-based sauces over cream sauces. Choose the grilled option over the fried option. And choose the whole wheat option whenever possible,” she says.

Key Takeaways
Selling breast milk can help you make extra income as well as help babies in need.
Correct hygiene and storage are extremely important, as you don’t want anyone to get sick from your milk.
You can use websites and milk banks to sell or give away your breast milk. Some moms might give their milk away for free, while others might want to sell it for some extra money. There’s no right or wrong way.
You can earn around $1 to $2 for each ounce of breast milk. Babies usually drink about 20 to 30 ounces each day, so this means you could make a good amount of money.
How To Sell Breast Milk
Is selling breast milk legal?
Selling breast milk is legal in most countries, such as in the United States.
However, you will want to check the rules in your area about selling bodily fluids as this will help you follow the law when you sell your breast milk. If you contact any of the milk banks listed below, they should be able to help you figure this out.
Is there a market for breast milk?
Yes, there is definitely a market for breast milk. Some new moms produce more milk than their babies need, and some moms struggle to produce enough.
By selling your extra milk, you can help parents who need milk, while making extra money. The demand for breast milk is mainly driven by mothers who struggle with low milk production or those who cannot produce milk at all.
But, there are other reasons why people buy breast milk as well, such as bodybuilders like breast milk because it’s high in fat and has a lot of calories.
You can decide who you want to sell your breast milk to. So, if anything makes you uncomfortable, simply state so.
Also, it is hard work pumping milk, so you will want to carefully think about the pros and cons to make sure it is worth it for you.
How much can you sell breast milk for?
If you have a large milk supply, you may be able to make a decent side income by selling your breast milk, and you may be able to earn around $1 to $2 per ounce.
I’ve read stories online where some people say that they earn $1,000 or even $2,000 a month selling their breast milk. While that’s most likely not the norm, as that would be a lot of extra milk supply that you have, you may still be able to earn at least some extra cash from the breast milk that you won’t be using.
6 Best Places To Sell Breast Milk
Below are the best places to sell breast milk to.
1. Only the Breast
Only the Breast is a popular site specifically for buying and selling breast milk. On this website, you can create breast milk listings and connect with possible buyers.
I browsed the site and they currently have over 3,000 listings for breast milk for sale. You can sell your breast milk in bulk for $0.25 to $0.50 per ounce, or not in bulk at $1.00 per ounce. You can also choose to sell your milk through a local listing on this site.
There were also several hundred listings on this site from people who were looking for specific breast milk to buy, which is a good sign that there are a lot of buyers out there!
With Only the Breast, you can also choose who you sell your breast milk to, such as only for babies and not for adults to drink.
2. Tiny Treasures Milk Bank
Tiny Treasures Milk Bank is a milk bank that pays $1.10 an ounce to healthy breastfeeding mothers for their time and effort. This company will give you the breast milk storage bags to put your milk into, but you will have to use your own pump.
This company works with Prolacta BioScience to make life-saving human milk-based nutritional products for ill and premature infants. They mostly sell their products to hospitals, but some are also used for research.
3. BreastfeedingMomsUnite
BreastfeedingMomsUnite is an online milk community and classified site covering all things related to breastfeeding, including the sale of breast milk.
You simply start by creating a milk ad with information about you and what you are selling. Once you have agreed on a deal with a parent, you then ship them your breast milk, usually on dry ice to make sure that it stays frozen.
4. Craigslist
Craigslist is a site where you can post an ad for selling pretty much anything, such as breast milk. While it is not the most specific site for this purpose, your listing can possibly reach a wide audience in your local area.
In your ad on Craigslist, you will want to include a picture of the milk you are selling, your price, and some information about you such as your medical history and drug use.
I did a quick search on Craigslist and found breast milk listings in several cities and the prices ranged from around $1.00 to $5.00 per ounce.
As always with Craigslist, be careful when dealing with potential buyers (make sure to meet in a public place) and you will want to make sure you have safe transactions.
5. Facebook groups
There are many Facebook groups that are dedicated to the buying and selling of breast milk.
You can search for groups in your area or country and join them to connect with potential buyers.
I hopped on Facebook and simply searched for “sell breast milk” in the search bar and a ton of Facebook groups popped up that I could join to sell breast milk. There are breast milk sale groups for different countries, different states, and even ones that are for a specific purpose (such as for sick babies or even bodybuilders).
Then, you will most likely post an ad for your breast milk, or see if there are any “wanted” listings that suit what you are trying to sell.
Donating breast milk
Donating breast milk can be a great way to help moms who are having trouble nursing or babies in need of human milk.
To donate breast milk, you may want to contact milk banks or organizations that handle milk donation such as the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). HMBANA is dedicated to making sure that all babies have access to human milk, either through breastfeeding or the use of pasteurized donor breast milk. Check out their website to find out more details on how to become a donor.
Another idea that you might also be interested in is donating your breast milk through informal milk sharing. La Leche League International mentions that some families practice cross-nursing or co-nursing, where babies receive human milk from people who are not their parents.
Before you donate your breast milk, you will need to make sure that it’s safe, and donated breast milk should be free from contamination to make sure the baby who is drinking the milk is safe. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Food and Drug Administration recommend milk banks over online sites for this reason.
Here are a few tips for safe breast milk donation:
Always use sterile containers when you pump and store your breast milk.
Freeze your breast milk as soon as possible after pumping to preserve its quality.
Label your containers with the date of pumping to make it easier for donation centers to track and manage their inventory.
Make sure to follow the guidelines that the milk bank or donation group tells you (there’s usually a list that they will give you so that you know what to do and what not to do).
Things To Think About When Donating Or Selling Breast Milk
Here are some things to think about when selling breast milk.
Health and safety considerations
Before you sell your breast milk, you will, of course, want to make sure that it’s really clean and safe. So, this means you should get a good breast pump, keep everything clean, and store the milk in the correct temperatures at the right time.
Also, usually you cannot donate or sell breast milk if you are a smoker, if you have positive STD results, if you use medications, have tattoos, had a recent organ or tissue transplant, had a recent blood transfusion, and more. Milk banks typically want breast milk from healthy donor mothers.
You may have to take a blood test, get tested for things such as HIV, syphilis, or illegal drugs, and more before you can qualify to sell or donate breast milk. Some companies may require samples of breast milk as well before you get started.
Legal aspects
If you’re selling breast milk online, you should always be honest about yourself and your milk. You should share info about your health, what you eat, and how you live because it affects the milk’s quality and what a person may be looking for. This is SUPER important!
Challenges and risks
Selling breast milk can be a bit tricky as you have to find a place to sell it, usually on websites or social media groups. Sending it can be hard too, because it has to stay really cold so that it doesn’t melt and become spoiled.
Also, it takes a lot of time and effort to pump, which all moms know.
Personally, I pumped for over one year, and I found it to be very hard and time consuming. So, you will want to make sure that it is worth it for you.
If you remember these things and stay healthy and safe, selling your breast milk can be a good way to earn money and help babies who need it.
How To Increase Your Milk Supply
If you want to sell breast milk, you may be interested in knowing how to increase your supply. To help increase your milk supply, here are some tips.
Milkology course
Milkology is a site that has several breastfeeding and pumping resources. It is a resource for breastfeeding mothers who want to learn how to increase their milk supply.
I personally took this course when I was learning how to breastfeed and pump breast milk, and I thought it was very helpful (and affordable!).
These resources cover everything related to breastfeeding and nursing, including how to maintain a healthy breast milk supply which can be super helpful for those who want to sell breast milk.
To increase milk supply, here are some tips to get started:
Nurse frequently – Aim for at least 8 to 12 feedings a day, approximately every two to three hours. Eventually, you can lower it, but in the beginning this is very important.
Breast pump – You will want to use a breast pump to help with milk production without feeding a baby, especially if you plan to sell breast milk. A hands-free pump is also a lifesaver so that you can do things while pumping.
Relax – I know this is easier said than done, but relaxing can really help to increase your milk supply. So, you may want to watch some TV, read a book, or eat a snack while pumping.
Include lactation-supporting foods in your diet – This includes foods such as fenugreek, oatmeal or oat milk, fennel seeds, lean meat and poultry, and garlic.
By using these tips and taking the Milkology course, you may be able to increase your breast milk supply so that you can sell more breast milk.
Frequently Asked Questions About How To Sell Breast Milk
Below are answers to common questions about how to sell breast milk.
Who buys breast milk?
Some people who might buy your breast milk include moms who can’t make enough milk and parents who adopt babies. Some adults might also buy it for themselves too.
Is it wrong to sell breast milk instead of donating it?
I know how hard it is to pump and to find the time to do so. I believe that your time is worth something, so do not feel bad about selling your breast milk if that is what you want to do. Plus, I have talked to many moms who have said that they would gladly pay for breast milk when they need it, because they know how hard it is to do and how valuable a mother’s time is.
Is it ethical to sell breast milk to bodybuilders online?
Some bodybuilders drink donor breast milk because of the high protein, calories, and fat in it. The ethics of selling breast milk to bodybuilders is personal, and some believe it’s an acceptable and mutually beneficial arrangement as long as both parties consent (the mother and the bodybuilder that is), but other people may find it inappropriate. It’s really just a personal decision.
How to sell breast milk to bodybuilders?
To sell breast milk to bodybuilders, you can create a listing on breast milk classifieds sites and make sure your listing targets the bodybuilding community. You can also join specific forums or Facebook groups for bodybuilders and breastfeeding to connect with potential buyers. I did a quick search on Facebook and I found several Facebook groups that are all about selling breast milk to bodybuilders, so that is probably a good place to start if you are interested.
Where can I find milk banks near me?
To find milk banks near you, you can look for accredited milk banks through the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). They have a directory on their website with a list of approved banks in North America. Also, you can check for local milk banks or lactation support groups in your area.
Where to sell breast milk online?
To sell breast milk online, you can use websites like Only the Breast. They help people who want to buy and sell. You can also put up ads on regular websites or join Facebook groups for this.

Looking to learn the best ways to make money while you sleep?
Do you ever feel worn out from your regular routine and tired of struggling to manage your money? Just picture being able to earn money even when you’re sleeping, without having to work long hours.
In this article, I will show you 19 ways to help you reach financial freedom by earning passive income, such as while you sleep.
Having different ways to make money might seem like something crazy, but with the right plan and some hard work, it can actually happen.
In fact, I earn income all the time while I am sleeping and I love it. Now, that doesn’t mean that it’s easy. Some of the ways below will be harder than others, and they may take up a lot of time still. But, you may be able to earn money throughout the day from the hard work that you put in.
Key Takeaways
There are many ways to make money while you sleep, such as by blogging, selling digital products on Etsy, renting out storage space or real estate, putting your money in a high yield savings account, earning dividends, and more.
Some are easier to start than others – so make sure to think about the pros and cons, such as how much time it may take you or how much money you will need to start (your minimum investment!).
19 Best Ways To Make Money While You Sleep
Below are 19 ways to make money while you’re asleep.
1. Blogging
My favorite way to make money while I’m sleeping is by blogging, and it is a great way to make passive income while you sleep. I have been blogging for many years now (since I started Making Sense of Cents, I’ve made more than $5,000,000 from my blog), and I am able to work and earn money while I am asleep, such as by selling digital products, display advertising, and through affiliate marketing.
This is because readers read my blog posts throughout the day and night, even when I am not working. I have blog posts and advertising on my site, for example, that earn me income throughout the day.
So, what is a blog? A blog is like the article you’re reading now, written and published on a website. It’s basically a collection of written content. You can start a blog about many different topics, such as finance (like my blog!), recipes, family, health, wellness, pets, sports, outdoors, travel, and more.
Other similar ways to make money in your sleep include starting a podcast or a social media account, such as on TikTok or Instagram.

2. Affiliate marketing
If you want to learn how to make money overnight (such as when you’re sleeping), then my absolute favorite way is affiliate marketing.
This is one of the main ways I make money on my blog, but you don’t need a blog to do affiliate marketing either. You can do affiliate marketing on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, an email list, and more.
Affiliate marketing is when you share products or services from other companies with readers, subscribers, or people that you know. When someone buys through your referral link, you get a commission and earn some money from the company.
Here’s an example: Let’s say you write about a book on your blog and provide a link to it. If someone buys that book through your referral link, you get a commission.
You’ve probably bought things through affiliate marketing many, many times over the years. I definitely have!

3. Selling printables
Making and selling printables is another good way to make money without much active effort.
Printables are digital items that people can download and print at home. They can be things like games for a bridal shower, checklists for grocery shopping, planners for managing budgets, invitations, coloring pages, quotes designed to be printed and hung on walls, and more.
I buy printables all the time, and so do other people. In fact, I bought a printable the other day for my daughter – one that would help her learn the alphabet that I could print out at home for her.
Making printables can be a passive way to earn money. You only need to make one digital file for each product, and you can sell it as many times as you want. All you need is a laptop or computer and an internet connection, which makes it a low cost way to start a business.

4. Investing in real estate
Investing in real estate is a popular way to make passive cash flow while you sleep.
By purchasing rental properties, you can earn a steady flow of rental income from tenants and guests. Also, your property’s value will most likely appreciate over time, which can increase your net worth.
You can invest in residential properties, commercial real estate, short-term rentals (such as starting an Airbnb), REITs (real estate investment trusts), and more. There are pros and cons of each, so you will want to think about that before you get started.

5. Starting a YouTube channel
Starting a YouTube channel is another way to make money while you sleep. This is because you can add affiliate links to your videos, generate ad revenue, form brand sponsorships, and sell products within videos as well.
You’ll need to create videos that entertain, educate, or inform viewers, and get as many views to your videos as you can (for the most part, more page views usually does mean more income).
As your YouTube content becomes more popular, you will earn passive income from past videos while working on new content.

6. Dropshipping
Dropshipping is a type of business where you sell items on an online store, but you don’t do the shipping. Instead, you have a supplier that does the shipping for you.
So, this means that you don’t need to keep any products in stock yourself.
That doesn’t mean that this is easy, though – you have to find trustworthy suppliers and make sure your customers get their orders on time. You will also need to create a website, find a way to differentiate yourself from other dropshippers, take pictures of the items you are selling, answer customer questions, and find ways to grow your store.
The types of items that you can sell in a dropshipping store include clothing, electronics, home decor, pet supplies, luggage, stationary, craft supplies, books, and more.
7. Online courses
I have made over $2,000,000 from selling courses over the years – courses that I have personally created.
Making and selling online courses is a great way to earn money at any time of the day – even while sleeping.
Some examples of courses that can be created include:
Parenting and family
Health and wellness
Woodworking
Dog training
Standardized tests preparation
Playing the guitar
Teaching a language
Traveling
Painting
Cooking
And so much more!
I have taken courses on all sorts of topics over the years, such as baby sleep classes, personal finance, credit card rewards, and so much more.
Creating an online course is one of the fastest ways to use your time, increase your earnings, and help more people.

8. High yield savings accounts
A high yield bank account is a low-risk method to make extra cash while you sleep.
These types of savings accounts earn a higher interest rate than a regular savings account, so your money grows faster.
You will want to make sure that you pick a trustworthy bank and check the interest rates regularly because they can go up or down. Some people move their money into high yield savings accounts often so that they can get the highest interest rates.
Remember, these accounts usually over the long run have lower interest rates compared to stocks or real estate, but they give you a stable and secure way to earn money.
I personally use Marcus by Goldman Sachs as they have a very high rate. You can get up to 5.40% at the time of this writing through a referral link bonus. According to this high yield savings account calculator, if you have $10,000 saved, you could earn $540 with a high yield savings account in a year. Whereas with normal banks, your earnings would only be $46.
9. Dividends
Buying stocks that pay dividends is another way to earn money while sleeping.
When you invest in these stocks, you get a portion of the company’s earnings on a regular basis.
Here’s how dividends work: If you have shares of a company that gives you money because you own them, that’s called a dividend. So, if you own 10 shares of Company XYZ, and they give you $5 in dividends every year, you’ll get $50 in total for that year. Usually, companies give out dividends four times a year. In the example, the $5 they give you every year will likely be divided into $1.25 for each quarter (four times a year).

10. Rent out your garage
If you have extra land or space in your home that you’re not using, you can make money by letting other people use it for storage.
You can rent storage space for things like cars, boats, boxes, and more. This could be your garage, driveway, closet, basement, attic, or even just a shelf.
A website where you can list your storage space is Neighbor. On this site, you can make between $100 and $400 or more every month. How much you earn depends on how much people in your area want to rent and what kind of space you’re renting out.

Webinars are like online classes or workshops about specific subjects (I’ve included a list below of some examples). If you’re an expert in something, you can record a webinar and charge people to attend or sell products and services related to the topic during the webinar.
You can also record your webinars and let people watch them whenever they want, which can bring in money while you are sleeping or on vacation.
For example, you could host a webinar about:
Starting an e-commerce store – Teach participants the ins and outs of setting up and running a successful online store.
Digital marketing strategies for small businesses – You could share online marketing techniques to help businesses grow their online presence, such as tips for TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, Google SEO, and more.
Stock market investing for beginners – You could share advice and tips for newbies in the world of stocks, mutual funds, index funds, bonds, S&P, and investment portfolios.
How to make money with affiliate marketing – You could teach the strategies behind successful affiliate marketing sites.
How to invest in fine wine – Or, any other type of investment! If there is something specialized that you invest in that is different from normal, you may be able to generate interest in your webinar.
And so much more.
12. Peer-to-peer lending
Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending is when you lend money to people or businesses who need loans, and they pay you back with interest.
Websites like LendingClub and Prosper let you spread out your money to lots of borrowers, which lowers the risk if someone can’t pay you back.
As borrowers make their payments, you get a part of the interest, which adds to your passive income streams that you can make without working.
With a peer-to-peer lending site, people can borrow money from a group of lenders like you and me, rather than from a traditional financial institution like a bank. People use peer-to-peer lending sites for all sorts of reasons such as debt consolidation, home improvement, small business financing, investment opportunities, and more.
13. Selling stock images and graphics
If you like taking pictures, you can make money in your sleep by selling stock images on websites like Shutterstock, Getty Images, or Adobe Stock.
People buy stock images for all sorts of reasons, such as to put on their website, within articles and blog posts, on social media, and more. I buy stock images all the time because they can help to make a blog post more enjoyable to read (you can find several stock images within this blog post, in fact).
A great thing about stock content websites is that they can bring in money even when you’re not actively working. You take pictures, put them on the site, and they can keep making money for a long time.
Some common types of pictures that you can sell include travel, business, people, food, animals, health, fashion, sports, and more.

14. Start a membership site
Creating a membership site where people pay a regular fee (such as each month or each year) for special content, resources, or services is a way to make money.
Some examples of membership sites that you can start include:
Stock image library – You can sell a collection of pictures or videos that subscribers can use for their own projects (such as their own business). Subscribers pay for access to this media library. I personally have been paying for a stock photo membership for years, and I think they are amazingly helpful.
Newsletter – Send valuable and special content straight to your subscribers’ email inboxes regularly where you charge a subscription fee for access.
Mastermind groups – You can form small, focused groups of individuals who come together to support and challenge each other in achieving their goals, and you charge a membership fee for participation. I have seen mastermind groups go for anywhere from free to tens of thousands of dollars a year to participate.
Freelance job board – You can start a site where freelancers can find real job listings and opportunities. Members pay for access to these job listings because they want to find real jobs that pay (instead of having to weed through fake ads or low paying ones).
Consulting or coaching services – You can give personalized advice, coaching sessions, or access to a private community for members looking for guidance in a specific area, like life coaching or business consulting.
Fitness membership – You can create a platform with workout plans, meal plans, and wellness tips. Members pay a monthly fee for access to this content.
Digital downloads library – You can create a library of downloadable resources like ebooks, templates, or software. Subscribers gain access by becoming members.
Community forum – You could create a community around a shared interest or hobby where members can engage in discussions, ask questions, and share experiences, and you charge a fee for access.
Online courses membership – You can start a platform where you have courses on a specific subject, like photography, cooking, or digital marketing, where subscribers then pay a monthly fee to access the content.
Keep in mind, the secret to a successful membership site is giving real benefits to your subscribers. So, whether it’s great content, a helpful community, or useful resources, make sure your members feel like they’re getting what they paid for so that they keep their subscription for months and years to come.
15. Sleep studies and mattress testing
Taking part in sleep studies and mattress testing will most likely not be a long-term, reliable source of income, but it can earn you some extra money while you literally sleep.
You can find these by researching local sleep clinics or mattress companies that have paid studies or testing. Many universities also pay for sleep studies, such as the Harvard Division of Sleep Medicine.
The amount of money you can make depends on the specific study or testing, but it can be an interesting way to earn some extra money or get a free mattress for your time.
16. Vending machine business
Running a vending machine business can be a good way to make money, and you can sell different kinds of products. You may be able to earn over $1,000 a month with a well-run vending machine business.

Some ideas for apps that you could create include a budgeting tracker, meal planner, fitness tracker, meditation app, travel itinerary planner, and more.
You will want to do some research, and make sure that there are people who want to use the app that you are thinking about creating, of course. You could start brainstorming ideas by thinking about what kind of app you think could be helpful in your life to have.

Every family has their own reasons for choosing the type of Christmas tree that graces their home each December, but for me, nothing equals the smell of a live tree. Once a live tree is in the home, the unmistakable smell of pine, spruce or fir envelopes the room and our olfactory senses trigger fond memories of family Christmases from years ago.
Christmas tree growers would tell you that there are other reasons to choose a live Christmas tree over an artificial one, including the fact that live trees are more environmentally friendly. Christmas trees are planted specifically for harvest and subsequent replanting and an acre of Christmas trees produces enough oxygen to support 18 people each day, according to Ohio State University Extension research. Each Christmas tree will remove up to one ton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during its lifetime. And live Christmas trees can be recycled through chipping or composting.
Choosing a live tree
You can be assured of getting a fresh tree if you cut your own tree from a local Christmas tree farm. While this is a cherished family tradition for many, the convenience of purchasing a pre-cut tree is more desirable for others.
To check a pre-cut tree for freshness, look for flexible needles that remain firmly attached when you tug on them. All needled evergreens shed their oldest needles each year, so there is no need for concern when brown needles fall from the interior of the tree when you knock the base of the tree on the ground. Just be sure that these brown needles are thoroughly shaken off the tree before taking it indoors. If the outermost green needles pull out easily, or if they appear a dull, lifeless green, the tree may be past its prime.
Maintaining freshness and aroma
Plan to place your live tree in a stand with a basin that holds at least a gallon of water. A cut tree will absorb a surprising amount of water, particularly during the first week it is placed indoors, so replenish water daily. Avoid whittling down the sides of the trunk of the tree to fit into a stand. The outer layers of wood are the most efficient in taking up water and should not be removed. If the tree is to be stored for more than a couple of days before it is set up indoors, its trunk should be placed in water and it should be stored in a cool, shaded, and protected area such as an unheated garage.
5 tips for maintaining healthy houseplants during winter months
If the tree has been cut within 12 hours of set up indoors, it will not be necessary to recut the trunk. If it has been longer than 12 hours since harvest, the trunk should be re-cut to improve water uptake. Cut a ¼-inch-thick slice from the base of the trunk and be sure to make the cut perpendicular to the stem axis. Don’t cut the trunk at an angle or into a v-shape, as this will make it difficult to hold the tree in the stand and reduce the amount of water the tree will uptake.
How to plant paperwhites for the holiday season
Just in case the ground freezes before you have a chance to plant your living tree outdoors in January, its best to dig the planting hole now where you wish to plant the tree. Be sure to dig the planting hole two or three times wider than the container or root ball of the tree you plan to purchase. The hole should be dug to the same depth as the as the container or root ball. Soil dug from the hole can be stored in the garage in a wheelbarrow or in large containers to avoid freezing.

Creating an indoor garden can bring life and vibrancy to your living space. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a first-time plant owner, there are important distinctions to understand and consider in an indoor garden. Let’s explore the benefits of indoor gardens, dos and don’ts for indoor gardening and garden ideas to get you started on your green thumb journey.
Indoor garden ideas by plant type and lifestyle
Perhaps the most exciting step of your indoor plant-growing adventure is selecting the greenery that fits best with your lifestyle and personal aesthetic. Certain plants require daily attention while others require little to no upkeep, making selecting the right plant around your specific lifestyle imperative. When deciding between potted plants, hanging plants and climbing plants, it’s good to consider how much responsibility you have to give to your indoor garden.
If you’re always busy:
Succulents: This plant is growing in popularity and for good reason, they require little care. Succulents rarely need watering, making them perfect for the busy indoor gardener who struggles to add more to their to-do list.
Snake plants: These low-maintenance plants are perfect for enhancing your apartment without inflicting on your busy schedule. Not only do snake plants thrive in any light (including low natural light), but they are only required to be watered once every two weeks.
If you’re not home a lot:
Air plants: Air plants survive on just that — air. These self-sufficient plants don’t even require soil and absorb most nutrients from the air. They’ll enjoy an occasional misting but require little to no attention or light.
Spider plants: Even with a scary name, these plants have become well-loved additions for many spaces, and they’re ideal for someone who is rarely home. They handle irregular watering well, lending themselves to your ever-changing schedule perfectly.
If you have pets:
Bamboo plant: These non-toxic ferms are the perfect addition to any room. Along with their stunning stature, they provide peace of mind for your cats, dogs or other pets.
Boston fern: This non-toxic option is a popular addition to a hanging garden as a great hanging plant, making it a perfect option for pets who may bite or knock over plants. Even if you choose to place this plant lower, your pets are safe.
If you love to cook:
Herbs: The options are truly endless when it comes to an indoor herb garden. Consider basil, rosemary, thyme and mint to add the homegrown touch of fresh herbs to your favorite meals.
Aloe vera: While not necessary for a chef, this is a great plant to have on hand for any accidental kitchen burns. Plus, it’s very easy to care for.
If you are a maximalist:
Prayer plant: If you’re looking for a boisterous plant for your indoor garden, the Prayer plant has a beautiful pattern sure to stop guests in their tracks. Its lemon-lime coloring makes it a great addition to your maximalist pad.
Fiddle leaf fig: A large and in-charge plant, the fiddle leaf fig is sure to be the star of the show in your indoor garden. Not only do these thrive indoors, but they also add a touch of lush greenery to your vibrant space.
Plant combinations we love for your indoor garden
Want to transport yourself to a tropical paradise? Combine tropical plants like alocasia, bird of paradise, calathea and spider plant for a stunning and exotic-feeling indoor garden.
If you’re looking for a more zen garden feel, consider mixing a bonsai tree, lucky bamboo and peace lily. Together, these gorgeous potted plants will bring a sense of tranquility to any indoor space.
Awaken your sense of smell with lavender, jasmine and geraniums. This trio sits perfectly on a sunny windowsill and will fill your small room with a delightful smell.
Dos and don’ts of an indoor garden
Growing plants is a commitment, small or large, depending on the indoor plants selected. In order to successfully bring your indoor garden ideas to life, consider these dos and don’ts of an indoor garden.
Do:
Assess lighting conditions: Understand the natural light available in your space. Most plants require some level of direct sunlight, so choose plants that match the lighting conditions in your desired indoor garden rooms.
Select your plants carefully: Choosing the right plants for your garden ensures the garden is visually pleasing and easy to maintain. Consider starting with one or two plants from the list above that fit your lifestyle.
Invest in quality soil when needed: Not all plants require soil (air plants) and some may even come with soil when purchased. However, when necessary, it’s important to invest in a good potting mix suitable for your plant types. Learn more about soil types here.
Create a watering schedule: Different plants require different watering needs. Be mindful not to overwater; it’s often better to underwater than overwater. Invest in a sauce to keep under the floor or table plants to collect any access water. Also, misting often is important. Certain types of plants thrive in humidity, so spritzing your plant that requires a humid environment needs to be a priority.
Don’t:
Overcrowd plants: Leave room in between plants so they can thrive and grow. Indoor gardens lack sunlight, making it important each plant can get ample sunlight.
Tend to them too much: Too much water will drown your plant. In the same way, too much fertilizer can harm your plants. Follow recommended feeding schedules and watering schedules based on plant type.
Neglect pest control: Keep an eye out for pests. Early detection of any pesky unwanted guests can save your plants. Use natural remedies or plant-friendly bug deterrents when needed.
What if you want to grow a spice garden?
Compared to an outdoor green space, an indoor spice garden is much less difficult. Still, there are decisions to make and steps to follow to achieve success!
Step 1: Pick a location (or two!)
As all plants require at least some sunlight to grow, identify the window spaces that have the best light for the herbs you’re growing. South-facing windows offer the most sunlight during the winter, so those are the best choice for plants that grow best in tropical climates, such as thyme, basil, oregano, rosemary and bay laurel. However, herbs like mint, chives, chervil and parsley don’t require such heavy light, so nurture those near east or west-facing windows.
If you want to get really fancy try setting up grow lights for best results, especially when growing from seeds. Then, it won’t really matter where the plants are!
Step 2: Choose herbs, then purchase plants or plant seeds
Purchase plants any time of year! Pick up a few from the local nursery and consider buying more attractive containers than those plain, black plastic ones they come in. Think farmhouse chic, a la Joanna Gaines!
If planting from seed, start in spring. Buy the seeds you want, as well as a bag of seed-starting potting mix. This is very important because heavier types of potting soil aren’t good for helping the germination process.
Some people opt to start the seed-planting process in plastic trays that have a lot of individual cells. Then, transplant the sprouts into clay pots. But you can do either! Whichever container type you select, place the newly seeded containers out of direct light in a warm room. Use clear plastic to cover them until germination happens, then take the plastic off and place it in sunlight or under grow lights (preferably the latter).
Step 3: Water and fertilize
Water is another essential ingredient to herb garden success. Be careful not to add too much of a good thing, however. Do not allow the soil to get very wet. Instead, water lightly using a watering can or sprayer to keep the soil slightly moist.
Frequency of watering really depends on how quickly your plants dry out. The amount of sunlight and temperature inside the apartment affects this. Do a fingertip test to make sure each plant really needs watering before you do it.
Starting a week or so after germination, use a liquid houseplant fertilizer a couple of times a month. Follow directions accordingly.
Step 4: Harvest
Don’t cut into that brand-new plant right away! Instead, wait to start snipping until the plant is at least four to six inches tall.
To harvest, cut the outside leaves first. Use kitchen scissors or shears that are both clean and sharp. This will help the plant heal more quickly. Take care not to cut more than one-third of the plant at any given time, so that it can grow and mature at a good, strong pace.
If the plant starts to flower be sure to pinch the buds off, or else it will change from a producing plant to one that is more interested in reproduction.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Your enjoyment of these herbs is only limited by your imagination! Top your favorite dishes with fresh green onion or cilantro, or cook with sage or thyme for extra flavor. Some even go well as cocktail garnishes (mint)!
The best herbs to grow in your indoor spice garden
The great thing about growing your own herb garden is that you don’t have to plant anything that doesn’t suit your palate. Not a fan of cilantro? Don’t even bother! Put basil on everything? Plant extra!
Certain herbs are extra popular in DIY gardens. When you’re planning your garden, consider these versatile cooking herbs:
Lemongrass: Fans of Asian cuisine should definitely plant this easy to grow herb.
Parsley: This one is tricky to grow from seed, so perhaps start off with a plant, instead. Never transplant parsley from one container to another!
Rosemary: A must for soups and stews, this aromatic herb grows best in full sun.
Mint: One of the easiest to grow, mint is a great addition to just about any type of recipe.
Chives: Another on the cinch list, chives grow quickly and with little help. They make a wonderful and tasty garnish atop many dishes!
Basil: A little trickier than some herbs to grow, basil is well worth the extra effort.
FAQs: bringing your indoor garden ideas to life
Embracing your green thumb can come with some questions. Whether you’re dealing with a potted plant, living wall, trailing plants or edible greens, you’re sure to encounter a myriad of challenges and curiosities along your gardening journey. Here are the answers and tips for some challenges or questions you may encounter.
How do I know if my plant needs water?
You can test the soil with your finger. Stick your finger into the soil about an inch deep and if it feels dry, it’s time to water. Some plants also show signs like drooping leaves when thirsty. It’s best to google your specific plant if you’re unsure.
Do I need to repot my plants?
A good rule of thumb to follow is replacing the pot every 1-2 years. If the plant is outgrowing the pot, then a replacement pot is also necessary.
What do brown or yellow leaves mean?
Leaves that turn brown or a yellowish color are typically a sign of something wrong. Most likely, this is a sign of overwatering or underwatering. Try checking the soil moisture and adjusting your watering routine as needed. Then, trim off the affected leaves to encourage new growth.
What are some benefits of an indoor garden, beyond aesthetic appeal?
Indoor gardening can alleviate stress, enhance creativity and increase productivity. Additionally, some studies prove houseplants may have a positive impact on the air quality within your home as well.

Hosting a successful Thanksgiving on a budget starts with smart shopping strategies and a manageable guest list.
November 1, 2023
Every November, family and friends gather to reflect on what they’re grateful for and indulge in a home-cooked meal. But with food costs steadily increasing, Thanksgiving can easily be one of the most stressful and costly holidays of the year.
The good news? You don’t have to break the bank to host a holiday dinner that leaves your guests full and impressed. Here are some tips for hosting Thanksgiving on a budget without compromising on the warmth and joy of the holiday season.
1. Get a head start on planning
It’s never too early to start preparing for the holidays, especially if you’ve volunteered to host. Haley and Justin Brown-Woods, financial coaches and hosts of the Price of Avocado Toast podcast, recommend thinking about what type of Thanksgiving you’d like to create. Will it be casual or elegant? A full, traditional meal or just heavy appetizers?
Most importantly: How big will the celebration be? Having a rough idea of how many people you’ll be hosting will provide a better sense of how much food and drink you’ll need, which can help you set a realistic budget.
One tip: If you’ve previously hosted Thanksgiving, review bank statements from those years to approximate your expenses for this year’s dinner.
2. Keep your guest list in check
The more, the merrier, right? Not necessarily. Too many Thanksgiving guests mean more mouths to feed—and more money spent. “One of the first steps we’d suggest when doing Thanksgiving on a budget is being modest in who you invite,” Haley says. More guests can mean you might need to plan for considerations like dietary restrictions or picky kids. To keep it simple, invite only close family members or just your immediate household.
“As you add to the list of guests, you need to ask yourself how much more of each dish you’ll need to make,” Haley says. “Boiling a few extra potatoes is wildly different from making an entire new casserole pan of dressing. Do you plan on giving out leftovers to all? Do you have disposable containers to send it all home in? Ask yourself what kind of post-meal situation you’re comfortable with and then build around that.”
3. Commit to a budget and build your savings fund
Once you’ve figured out the guest list and your overall style, determine a budget for food, decorations, and other expenses based on how many guests you plan to invite. Then, pad your final budget to cover any unexpected costs that might pop up.
Try to keep your budget limited to the essentials. “You do not need to buy or serve everything,” Haley says. “Potatoes don’t need to be curated into four styles, and you don’t need every extra casserole you saw on social media.”
Having a rough estimate for expenses is the first step toward building your holiday fund. To help your savings go even further, consider opening a high-yield online savings account to take advantage of the compound interest it earns every month.
Start saving with no minimum balance
Discover Bank, Member FDIC
“We suggest having a sinking fund in a high-yield savings account built specifically for holidays that you can add to each month and then pull from when needed,” Justin says. “This could be for things like groceries, gifts, excursions, or any other expenses that come with the holiday season. When we save in advance for our goals, not only do we feel empowered, but we spend more intentionally because we recognize the work and planning that went into getting to that point.” Not to mention, you’ll experience lower overall stress if you come out of the holidays without considerable debt to pay back in the new year.
4. Take inventory of what you have
One simple trick to ensuring a successful Thanksgiving dinner on a budget? Figure out what you already have at home to reduce unnecessary expenses. Pantry staples, like sugar and flour, can last for many months, and there’s no need to buy them brand new just for one dinner. If you’re missing a certain-sized pot or baking tray, consider borrowing cookware from a guest before the big day. Thrift stores are also an inexpensive place to find what you need to help keep your Thanksgiving spending under control.
5. Shop with a budget-first mindset
Haley recommends several money-saving tips when shopping for Thanksgiving dinner on a budget.
“Buy off-brand when possible,” Haley says. “You don’t need name-brand condensed soup for a green bean casserole. Your guests will still love whatever is made. The flavors meld together anyway, so cut costs as much as possible.”
Another tip: To curb spending, buy certain items ahead of time to avoid last-minute and unnecessary purchases. “Start stocking up on the nonperishables months in advance,” Haley adds. “You’ll be tempted to buy straight from the Thanksgiving display if you shop too close to the holiday. And you know what else is on that display? Decor, extra desserts, favors, and other stuff you absolutely do not need.”
6. Save money on the decor
You don’t need to spend a fortune to enhance the Thanksgiving mood. Decorating for Thanksgiving on a budget is a chance for you to exercise creativity and maybe even enlist the help of guests for a night of crafting. Instead of buying that fancy centerpiece you saw online, use it as inspiration to create a centerpiece with decorations you already own or can thrift on the cheap.
Better yet: Take a minimalist approach to your Thanksgiving decorations.
“As far as decor, less is more,” Haley says. “A comforting table setting, maybe one from years past, is just enough. Sometimes we forget that ‘more’ can really mean ‘busy,’ which detracts from the connection we crave on this holiday.”
7. Consider hosting dinner potluck-style
Want to really limit the stress and spending? Offer to host a potluck Thanksgiving or “Friendsgiving” dinner. As the host, you can still cook the main entrees like the turkey, but a potluck allows you to delegate smaller side dishes to your guests—especially if you can’t trim down your guest list.
Justin says: “We are big fans of potluck style. If your extended family is so close that you can’t avoid the invites, consider asking all to contribute meaningfully, in alignment with their budget. Find spaces where folks can contribute, and then ask if that works or if they’d like to adjust. An example could be, ‘Hey, we’re so excited to have you for Thanksgiving. We’re asking everyone to contribute a dish so the meal is easier on all. Would you be comfortable bringing that famous dish you make?’”
Granted, there are certain circumstances where guests may not be able to contribute. For example, family members visiting from out of town might not be able to bring a home-cooked dish or have time to visit the store before dinner. If traveling guests offer, feel free to accept their contribution. Otherwise, it’s probably best not to ask.
Don’t let hosting duties stress you out
Most importantly, Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and loved ones to reflect on all they’re grateful for and to enjoy each other’s company. Hosting should be fun—not gray hair-inducing, and it’s important to remember that who you invite is more important than how much you spend on the tablecloths.
“Remind yourself of what your values for the holiday are,” Haley says. “If feeding people is a value, then how can we do that comfortably, without breaking the bank? If connecting with loved ones matters more, maybe you can save on the meal in some capacity. Value-based spending is key to enjoying your money and your life, so identify the value and then spend intentionally within that framework.”

We’re all privy to dealing with some insects or bugs in our rental property. Whether that be fruit flies, mosquitos or even ants, living pest-free requires knowing how to eliminate unwanted bugs. A common household bug, pantry moths — or Indian meal moths — are a common type of household pest that infests stored food products.
These bugs target food items found in pantries and kitchens, earning them the title of pest. Because they contaminate and damage various food products knowing how to get rid of them, is a valuable skill.
A pantry is an essential part of a kitchen, often stocked with our favorite snacks and necessary items for mealtimes. If it’s mostly full, it is tricky to spot an Indian meal moth before you notice infested food items, meaning it’s too late. Before they contaminate food, utilize this checklist to identify pantry moths.
Identifying by appearance: Pantry moths are small with a wingspan of 5/8 inch. Their coloring ranges from grey to reddish-brown, typically with a spotted pattern on the wings. It’s important to note that pantry months are more slender than traditional moths which are larger and wider in size.
Understanding the pantry moth life cycle: You may not see a moth, but you can pay attention to various life cycle phases you may notice. Female moths lay eggs near food sources or even worse, on food sources. They then grow and the larvae feed on said food sources, beginning the contamination process. The next step in the cycle is spinning a cocoon and pupating, where they then mate to lay eggs, continuing the cycle. Keeping an eye out for eggs just as much as a moth itself can help prevent the pantry moth life cycle from continuing and contaminating food.
Protecting food sources: Pantry moths eat just about anything. Common pantry pests’ favorites include grains (such as flour, rice, cereal and pasta), spices, nuts, pet foods, dried fruit and chocolate. Pantry moths can chew through stored food packaging and nest within food containers, so make sure to check inside food packaging along with these specific foods.
Eliminating pantry moths
Now that we’ve covered what to look for and how to identify pantry moths’ presence, it’s time to learn extermination methods to get rid of pantry moths. It’s essential to get rid of pantry moths the minute you notice their presence as they are notoriously known for being tricky to get rid of.
Clean and empty your pantry
This step is recommended regardless of your elimination method preference. Unfortunately, once you notice a pantry moth, pantry moth larvae or webbing, there is some infestation occurring whether big or small. Your best chance of fully ridding your pantry of this infestation is throwing away noticeably infested food.
Our recommendation is to remove all food from your pantry to thoroughly clean the shelves, paying extra attention to corners. Throw away any food sources listed above, even if it’s unclear if there are eggs or webbing around this food or packaging. Be sure to check all food thoroughly and if there’s even the smallest question, throwing it away ensures you’re getting rid of contaminated food.
Method 1: Try bay leaves
Bay leaves naturally deter pantry moths due to their smell. By placing bay leaves around and inside food containers, the scent will repel moths and prevent further infestation.
Method 2: Invest in pantry moth traps

Pantry moth traps are a great solution for catching these pests and stopping the continuing life cycle. The traps are designed to attract moths with pheromones, catching them with ease. You can find these traps, both natural and chemical, in most hardware stores, online or in some grocery stores
Method 3: Hire pest control
If you prefer to leave it up to the professionals, that’s okay too. If you’re in a rental property or apartment, file a maintenance request or speak to your landlord for the best way to seek third-party resources. For homeowners, most exterminators or pest control companies can take care of a pantry moth infestation.
Are pantry moths harmful?
While these precautions may seem as though pantry moths are dangerous, they’re nothing more than a nuisance. There’s no risk of disease associated with the common pantry moth, however, removing them from your pantry is ideal for the longevity of your food.
Prevention is key
Preventing pantry moths from contaminating food is the best route to take in terms of pest control. It’s highly recommended to store food sources in airtight containers, made with materials that cannot be chewed through, like hard plastic or glass. Other prevention methods include organizing your pantry so your vision is clear and hiding spots are few and far between along with cleaning spilled food immediately.
So long, pantry moths
Pantry moths, while not harmful, are certainly annoying. Replacing infested food is also expensive, making prevention methods and treatment options worthwhile investments. Ensure your kitchen stays bug-free by following these practical tips; you’ll not only save money but maintain cleanliness and hygiene in arguably the place in your home where it matters the most.
