In the world of interior design, earthy colors have long been celebrated for their ability to create spaces that feel warm, grounded, and inviting. Inspired by the hues found in nature, such as rich browns, warm beiges, and lush greens, earthy color palettes can transform your home into a tranquil retreat. So whether you’re looking at homes for sale in Fort Worth, TX, already renting a home in Dallas, TX, or looking for your first apartment in Denver, CO, this guide explores various earth-tone décor ideas to help you infuse natural beauty into your living spaces.
Disclaimer: For those living in rental properties or apartments, please ensure that any significant changes to your living space are approved by your landlord and do not violate your lease agreement. Always check with your property management before making alterations to avoid any potential issues.
Understanding Earthy Colors
Earthy colors are derived from natural elements such as soil, stones, trees, and plants. These hues include:
Browns: From deep chocolate to light taupe, browns are versatile and can add depth and coziness.
Greens: Olive, sage, and moss greens bring a refreshing and calming presence.
Beiges and tans: Neutral and understated, these shades serve as perfect backdrops.
Terracotta and rust: These warm, reddish-brown hues evoke the essence of sunbaked clay and add a vibrant touch.
Grays: Soft grays mimic the look of stone and rock, providing a cool, balanced counterpoint to warmer tones.
“When working with color, the goal is always to find balance and harmony,” Kerry, personal color harmony expert with Indigo Tones, shares. “Earth tones tend to be muted and an overall harmonious look would be achieved in using them by avoiding pops of color and keeping the contrast low. It’s best to use soft or weathered textured fabrics mixed in the same color family and in a middle range between dark and light.”
Earthy color décor ideas around the home
Earthy décor ideas revolve around tones and textures that emulate the natural world, bringing a sense of the outdoors inside your home. “Look to the creatures or places that move you to inspire your design,” Lynne Niehaus recommends. “Ask yourself how it makes you feel.”
Using all five senses, analyze every color and detail then bring them into your space on a larger scale,” Niehaus shares. “Whether it’s the velvety smoothness of a petal of a favorite flower, the crisp contrast striping of a hawk’s tail, or the granular, purply-brown intrigue and sparkle of the wet sand as the water retreats to the sea; these sensory details replicate the harmony that nature provides.”
1. Embrace raw materials
“Introduce reclaimed wood furniture pieces to add character and history to your interiors,” Raihana Fardous with Interior Harbor recommends. “The imperfections and unique grains of reclaimed wood tell a story and connect your space to nature.” Complement these with chocolate-brown textiles and beige accents for a sophisticated and comforting look.
“Other raw materials like jute or sisal make for great rugs to ground the space, offering both texture and warmth. Pair these with woven baskets for storage, which add a touch of rustic charm and practicality,” Fardous continues.
2. Layer tones and textures.
“Earth tones don’t have to be boring and drab. The key to nailing a statement-making earth-tone look in your home design is introducing pops of color, texture, and nature,” Aisha Beau Johnson explains. “While camel, brown, or beige may be the base colors for furniture, you can capture the eye by including bold neutrals like terracotta, dusty pink, French blue, or Bordeaux to the other elements of the room. Knitted or waffle textured throws also add more warmth and contrast, while utilizing plants to bring in nature can add to the serenity of the space.” This layering effect adds visual interest and creates a harmonious, serene atmosphere.
Gracie Friedman seconds this sentiment, adding that earthy touches can create a standout space. “As a lover of neutrals in bright and airy spaces, I like layering and mixing in earthy decor to anchor the space. Adding natural wood elements, rustic vases, rich browns, greens, grays, and faux greenery such as olive tree branches or eucalyptus to space are simple ways to make a room feel earthy and organic. Keeping the “big stuff” (like furniture) more neutral allows you to easily swap different earthy elements like pillows, vases, and throw blankets.”
3. Add greenery
As Friedman mentioned above, incorporating green through accent pieces such as throw pillows, rugs, or artwork is a great way to work in earth-like tones and textures. Sage green armchairs, olive-hued vases, or potted plants can inject a sense of nature, making any room feel more alive and vibrant. Greenery not only adds color but also enhances the organic feel of the space.
If you don’t have much of a green thumb, lean into green shades. “If you, like me, can’t for the life of you maintain a houseplant for more than a few days, I suggest opting for earthy tones in your home to bring in some natural vibes,” shares Teresa Maria. “I’ve recently discovered kitchens with sage green used either on walls or the cupboards. Any shade of darker green is so pleasing to the eye and brings a sense of calm to any space.”
4. Introduce terracotta accents
Terracotta elements, such as tiles, pots, and décor items, bring warmth and a touch of rustic charm. Use them to add a Mediterranean flair to your home. Pair terracotta with wooden furniture and open shelving to display ceramics or decorative items, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
5. Feature natural stone or clay
A backsplash or an accent wall made from natural stone, like slate, limestone, or travertine, can become a focal point in your space. These materials add texture and depth, anchoring the room and creating a grounded, earthy feel.
Atulya K Bingham, author of Mud Ball, Dirt Witch and more, recommends utilizing clay. “Clay plastering interiors completely transforms the atmosphere of a dwelling, both literally and figuratively,” Bingham shares. “Using local mud to create gorgeous interior renders is my go-to method for bringing nature right into my home and onto my walls. The result is walls that are warmer to touch, softer to look at, completely non-toxic, and a talking point to boot.”
6. Use cozy textiles
Incorporate earthy colors through bedding and textiles. A duvet cover in a warm beige or soft taupe, paired with pillows and throws in complementary shades, creates a restful and inviting atmosphere. Choose natural fabrics like linen, cotton, and wool for added comfort and warmth.
7. Maintain an earth-inspired palette
Stepping away from a cool-toned palette is recommended by Jessica McBride with Plank & Tile. “When it comes to the widely popular “earthy” aesthetic, there are numerous ways in which one can embody the essence of the outdoors within their home,” McBride notes. “Stepping away from a cool-toned color palette, and instead, incorporating accents of greens, muted browns, and orange tones through plants, rugs, pillows, wallpaper, and art is a great place to start. Additionally, to further elevate this theme, we love the look of mixed textures like rugged leather, wood, and stone.”
“When choosing an earthy color palette for your interior space, draw inspiration from a favorite vacation destination or setting,” Rose Benedict with Rose Benedict Design suggests for those unsure where to start. “With this approach, your color choices will feel even more personal, and as a bonus, your vacation photos will blend in beautifully. For example, if you’re in love with the warmth of the desert, then an array of tans, clays, and terracotta accents would be perfect for you.”
8. Incorporate natural scents
Enhance the earthy atmosphere by adding natural scents through essential oils or diffusers with fragrances like eucalyptus, lavender, or cedarwood. These scents not only refresh your home but also create a calming and inviting environment.
Your earthy sanctuary awaits
By embracing earthy color décor, you can create a home that feels grounded, welcoming, and in harmony with the natural world. Whether you’re redecorating a single room or your entire home, these ideas will help you bring the beauty and serenity of nature indoors.
With their cute aesthetics, lower environmental footprint, and mobile character, tiny homes on wheels have lured many into embracing a minimalist lifestyle. Moreover, thanks to their smaller initial cost, they have helped many people achieve their dream of homeownership.
The tiny house market is saturated with oodles of standard models offering bland looks and run-of-the-mill features, so it’s not easy to find a design that truly stands out. However, if you know where to look, you can still find gems that have the potential to entice you to sell everything you own and adopt a more simple and sustainable lifestyle. This luxury micro-dwelling for sale in Pleasant Grove, Utah, is a great example.
With an artistically designed exterior and a cozy and inviting interior that’s worthy of home decor magazines, this tiny home is a marvel on wheels. It is dubbed “La Montagne de Luxe,” and though information about the manufacturer is not available, we know it is a home built on speculation to show what this builder can do.
We can all agree that compact dwellings that are made to order typically have more character compared to other standard models, but this unit built on speculation certainly has a lot of character, too. From the custom woodwork to the exquisite exterior lighting design and Venetian plaster accent wall on the inside, there is a lot to like about this home. Not to mention, it is brimming with modern amenities and luxury finishes meant to make tiny living a pleasant experience.

Built on a two-axle Walton Trailers bumper pull conventional trailer, La Montagne de Luxe is just 26 feet long and 8.5 feet wide but offers a spacious living space with a two-loft configuration, which makes it suitable even for a small family. Moreover, it is certified by Pacific West & Associates and made for year-round living with heavy-duty mineral wool and spray foam insulation, heated floors, two Lunos air exchange systems, and top-of-the-line appliances.
The beautiful exterior is clad in dark board and batten siding, which gives it a moody look. However, the entrance door is encompassed by a rustic-inspired accent wall with intricate wood detailing. A double door leads inside an eclectic interior where the natural and soothing traits of rustic design harmoniously blend with the clean lines and luxurious finishes of modern design. A neutral color palette dominates all the areas inside this home, but don’t expect it to be boring, as the designers spiced up the living space with subtle pops of color here and there.
For instance, the living room is fitted with two velvety armchairs in a soothing pink hue. They are strategically placed in front of a floating cabinet that could act as an entertainment center. Of course, these chairs can be replaced with a regular couch, and there is also space on the wall for a TV for chill movie nights. However, the true highlight of this lounge is the stunning Venetian plaster accent wall that gives the room a high-end appearance.
Next to the armchairs, you’ll notice an elegant staircase that leads to the master loft. This staircase is more than just a pathway from one floor to the next, as it also acts as a visual separation between the living room and the kitchen and dining areas.

Designed with great attention to detail, the galley kitchen blends style with modern functionality. The custom flat cabinetry combined with a green glass tile backsplash creates a cooking space that exudes elegance. But the beauty of this kitchen goes deeper than great tile. It also offers ample storage for cooking essentials, a generous cooking surface, and a plethora of modern appliances that make cooking a breeze. Apart from the regular four-burner cooktop, oven, range hood, and sink, this kitchen also has a dishwasher and a full-size fridge/freezer that is cleverly camouflaged behind cabinet doors.
One side of the countertop is elegantly extended into a bar section with two flashy golden stools underneath. It is a multifunctional corner that can be a small yet intimate dining area or a practical workspace that takes up minimal floor space.
When you step into the bathroom, you’ll be enveloped by the same feeling of luxury and elegance, this time blended with some boho vibes thanks to a beautiful vanity with a speckled countertop, a vintage mirror, and a nature-themed wallpaper. There is also a large walk-in shower stall with glass door and sleek brass fittings, as well as a washer/dryer unit.

La Montagne de Luxe has two lofts that offer sleeping space for up to four people. The master loft with staircase access can accommodate a queen-size mattress and is incredibly luminous thanks to four small windows. A half-wall offers a bit of privacy and protection, and it also integrates some storage space for books, clothes, and other belongings.
The secondary loft is a bit smaller and lies above the living room. It can be reached via an extendable ladder and can be used as an extra sleeping space for guests or storage.
The La Montagne de Luxe tiny home on wheels is on sale for $150,000. With its beautiful finishes and cozy atmosphere, this compact dwelling once again demonstrates that downsizing does not have to mean sacrificing comfort, aesthetics, or a sense of home.

Upvote / Downvote: Users can upvote or downvote a comment. Reddit gives the comment a “score,” which is the number of upvotes minus the number of downvotes.
Karma: Other users can upvote or downvote your posts and comments; these tally to your “karma.” When providing helpful comments and posts, then they will reflect a higher karma score.
OP: Original Poster.
AMA: Ask Me Anything. An online Q&A session hosted by Reddit’s community in which some guest (normally famous) is or are available for questions
EDIT and ETA: Edit and Edited. A simple way for a user to denote the added to their original comment.

Reddit Personal Finance FAQ
Avoiding Reddit may be hard, but it is possible to avoid the more toxic parts of this site. There are a few key things to keep in mind that will help you avoid the worst of Reddit.
Avoid #1 – Posting Personal Information
The best practice is to avoid posting personal information. As such, your information may be used against you. Reddit is a social media website with different spheres of interest.
In order to avoid appearing disingenuous, it is best not to ask for upvotes or downvotes on posts.
Avoid #2 – Breaking the Thread Rules
The website has its own set of rules which every user should be familiar with before posting anything on the website. Reddit is known for its open dialogue, where members are encouraged to discuss a variety of topics from politics to technology.
However, people frown upon breaking the community rules.
Getting kicked out of many Reddit forums for not following the community rules is a possibility.
Avoid #3 – Be Careful on Opinions
The popular, winning opinions on Reddit are often biased and not based on facts. One example is the “What’s your favorite type of cheese” thread. In the end, it was a wildly popular opinion and later debunked by science.
One way to avoid these posts is by following an established Redditor with a solid reputation who has shown their ability to discuss topics like investing or personal finance without being judgmental or overly emotional about it.
Always do your own research to back up anything you may have learned on a r/personalfinance thread.

The living leads to a centrally-positioned dining and den drenched in natural light courtesy of the floor-to-ceiling French doors. Pernilla Bergquist is an unabashed, fervent fan of color.
A salvaged mantel adds depth to the dining room. Photography by Angel Tucker.
Just one peek into her home on Providence’s West End tells you everything you need to know about the cheerful force behind Pernilla Interiors: Bold, bright hues abound and Scandinavian patterns pop up in vibrant window treatments, art, lampshades and wallpaper selections.
The circa 1904 home is sunny and cozy, lively yet tranquil at the same time. But perhaps her friend, Harry Adler of Adler’s Design Center & Hardware, describes her style best.
“He said, ‘Well, I can’t necessarily find a common thread in your style when you do work for other people, but it always looks happy,’” she says.
So who better to turn to during these dark February days for some ways to bring color, light and a touch of Nordic coziness into our lives? The Swedish native, who cofounded Kreatelier with Line Daems in 2007 before leaving to start her own interior design business, was more than happy to oblige.
Go Bold
Bergquist loves to push clients out of their comfort zones and play with color.
“There is so much fear of color,” she says. “I’m amazed at how many people chicken out and decide, ‘Let’s just do beige and gold.’”
Swedish art and a lime-green loveseat anchor Bergquist’s living room. Photography by Angel Tucker.
If that sounds familiar, Bergquist suggests starting small.
Choose one or two colorful pillows, and maybe some fun lampshades, too. It’s easier than reupholstering, say, an entire sofa, and then you can swap out the pillows whenever you like.
Or maybe play around with a small area and see what happens. Bergquist transformed her once-cramped office into a jewel box of a cozy TV room, with moody teal paint and botanical-themed Marimekko wallpaper to match, along with colorful pieces by local artists Kirstin Lamb and Jens Retlev. Vibrant pillows and a blanket crocheted by her sister in Sweden complete the look.

You can even bring bold hues into one of the most unlikely places in the home: the kitchen.
Bergquist redid her kitchen last year, painting the Ikea cabinets white, adding new hardware and uncovering a window to turn the once dark room into something bright and cheerful. Glossy brick-red Moroccan tiles — leftover from another project — make quite the dramatic backsplash.
“I love the uneven glaze and edges,” she says.

Bring in the Light — and the Outdoors

Swedish winters are notorious for being snowy, cold and dark. A typical January day in Stockholm will see the sun rise at 8:30 a.m. and set around 3:30 p.m. So Swedes use lots of little lamps and candles to compensate for the extra darkness.
“I’m obsessed with real candles,” Bergquist says. “I go through a lot of Ikea [candle] boxes. It creates the best dinner ambiance.”
Adding flowers and potted plants works wonders, too. Forcing bulbs early for indoor use is another Swedish trick; Bergquist loves to have hyacinths around Christmas and tulips at other times to introduce hints of spring around her home.
Get Cozy
Another winter staple you’ll find in Swedish homes is sheepskin.
“It’s a great thing to just put on anything and make it look cozy,” she says.
Comfy throws, blankets and quilts look equally chic when draped over a couch or bed and provide much-needed warmth during the chilly winter months. Bergquist is an avid quilter and has piles of her handiwork neatly arranged at the foot of her bed, with a sheepskin throw artfully nestled on a rocking chair that once belonged to her grandmother.

Curate Those Collections
Books, pottery, dinnerware: They all provide pops of color when smartly arranged.
Bergquist tucks rows of books into living room shelves and her nightstand table for entertainment just within reach. Colorful groupings of Swedish Dala horses circle the living room, and delicate Danish pottery enhances the dining room with gentle hints of cornflower blue. She bought her first Bjorn Wiinblad piece at eighteen, and has been collecting ever since.
There’s an art to arranging collections, however. Place them haphazardly around the room and the effect can look cluttered. But display them closely together and they’re transformed into art.

If All Else Fails, Embrace the Darkness

Sometimes you just have to work with what you’re given.
Embrace the long, dark nights by hosting a board game night with friends, some wine and a charcuterie board or two. Or invite folks over for a movie night with hot cocoa and popcorn. Every Tuesday, Bergquist hosts a “puzzle and guzzle” night with friends: They work on a small puzzle, enjoy some wine and just laugh and chat the whole time.
“It doesn’t take that much effort,” she says. “In February, everyone has to survive in Sweden. It’s so dark. But you just make the best out of it. And then you embrace the summer and it’s fantastic.”
In AD PRO’s monthly Having a Moment column, AD senior design editor Hannah Martin reports as a weathervane for fads big and small, documenting the patterns and home decor trends she’s clocked in the pages of AD and beyond. Here, enjoy a look back at 2023’s most defining moments.
From nostalgic styles making a comeback to innovative responses to how we live today, there were many stand-out moments in the world of interior design this year. Reviewing them retrospectively, the selections sum up the past year’s tentpole memories—from the design fair debuts we’re still thinking about to the interiors that will inspire well into the new year. Before diving into the design forecasts and color predictions for 2024, take a minute to reflect on the home decor trends that ruled interiors this year.

Forget the subtlety of travertine (last year’s surface du jour) or the always-in elegance of snow-white Carrara. This year was all about an eye-popping specimen—strong veining, unusual colors, and (for the ultra-daring) perhaps a graphic mix of both. Surfaces need not blend into the background; they can say something too. Let’s call it personality marble—that essential dose of pattern that can make any interior pop. Take, for instance, the freestanding onyx bar Roman and Williams turned into a showstopping moment in Gwyneth Paltrow’s Montecito living room, or the all-over marble bathroom of Tinder founder Sean Rad and his wife, Lizzie Grover Rad, conjured by designer Jane Hallworth. Consider it a new kind of conversation piece for the home.

“With a rise in midcentury-modern home remodels and an increased nostalgia for retro furnishings, we’re seeing more customers favoring color,” says Alyssa Wilterdink, senior marketing manager at Kohler, which relaunched a duo of vintage hues for its plumbing fixtures in honor of the American manufacturer’s 150th anniversary this year. Designers are indeed leaning in: Virginia Tupker recently ordered custom colored Water Monopoly sinks in pale pink and blue for a family home in Connecticut; color fiend Frances Merrill installed a cobalt blue sink in the powder room of a Cape Ann, Massachusetts, home; and designer Oliver M. Furth opted for a vintage pink toilet from Kohler for artist Mary Wetherford’s midcentury-modern abode in LA.

This year, we witnessed a surge in designers adding color, pattern, and artistic flair to their projects with hand-painted tile. “I’ll tile just about anything,” says interior designer Jessica Jubelirer, who applied the treatment to the hearth, the bathrooms, the baseboards, and, most memorably, inset in the closet doors in a lakeside Wisconsin family home. Meanwhile, in a historic Connecticut family home designed by Virginia Tupker, Delft and Portuguese tiles create a sort of wainscoting in the entryway and bathrooms, as well as fireplace surrounds. In the kitchen of that project, hand-painted tile adds a splash of pattern (drawn from a William Morris motif) as a backsplash. Practical and durable with an artisan flair, hand-painted tile adds visual interest wherever needed. Adds Jubilerer: “Kitchens, bathrooms, and fireplaces can all benefit from its practicality and beauty.”

Massimiliano Locatelli’s Milan apartment features task lighting; an industrial, stainless-steel kitchen; and terrazzo floors.
This spring’s design fair circuit hinted at a return to the industrial minimalism, high-tech style of the ’70s and ’80s—an industrial revolution of the interior, if you will. In April we returned from Milan with notes about a minimalism resurgence, with a particular emphasis on industrial materials. Knoll had reissued some of high-tech star Joe D’Urso’s super-adaptable and sleek low tables from the ’80s. Ledongil Workshop’s experimental lighting and furnishings, on display at Ordet gallery, felt like an elevated take on track lighting. And at Drop City, designer Daisuke Yamamoto showcased a collection of clean-lined chairs made of the most frequently trashed construction material: lightweight gauge steel. Indeed, industrial materials and minimalist silhouettes were the protagonists of this year’s debuts.

“We’re blowing the dust off moire,” says Raffaele Fabrizio, creative director of Dedar, while showing off the Italian fabric house’s newly expanded Amoir Libre textile. Cue the ripple effect. As of late, a handful of brands and interior designers have redirected their gaze to the historic textile that oozes opulence, repackaging it for today’s quiet luxury. Interior designer Sophie Ashby, who recently wrapped a dressing room in a pale pink Dedar moire, praises the home decor trend for its ability to expand space: “When used in the right way it can really enhance a space, enveloping the interior with tactility whilst also subtly playing with light to make smaller spaces—such as dressing rooms or hidden nooks—appear larger.”

Before there was photography, botanists—or anyone wishing to document flora—created detailed illustrations, known as botanical studies, intended to convey the plant’s physical appearance and other qualities. Unsurprisingly, such botanical studies have long been used to decorate. Lately, the botanical studies trend—a longtime hallmark of traditional, even preppy interiors—is blooming anew. In Lauren Dupont’s Connecticut home, designed by Stephen Sills, a pair of antique botanical prints purchased at auction hang in her dressing room, and in her Palm Beach kitchen, Aerin Lauder mounted a grid of floral prints in the service pantry. Sure, there’s nothing innately groundbreaking about florals when it comes to home decor trends, but perhaps that’s just what gives them eternal life.

In his Manhattan loft, Colin King styles a minimalist bed—or “grandma-style,” as he dubs it.

In the bedroom, gone are the piles of decorative pillows and fussy, overstuffed duvets. Back is a simple coverlet that is perfectly happy not to take center stage. You know this super-simple look: a flat coverlet is laid across the bed, folded down a little at the top, and then back over a pair of standard pillows. “It always felt a bit traditional and almost religious,” says Colin King, the stylist and longtime AD contributor, who favors the minimalist bed. “It’s clean and tidy, simple but elegant. It gives the room the feeling you want your bedroom to have—serenity.” The back-to-basics look has been spotted in a restored Brooklyn Heights apartment by Augusta Hoffman, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s California bedroom designed by Jake Arnold, and Andre Mellone’s Manhattan sleeping quarters too.

In Germany and Austria between 1815 and 1850, when the Napoleonic wars had ended and a burgeoning middle class emerged, a new style of furniture was created to suit their needs: streamlined versions of more opulent Empire furniture, characterized by strong lines, warm local woods, and simplified shapes—though, notably, not totally stripped of ornament. Biedermeier furniture, as it would later be named, has regained appeal in contemporary interiors for its chameleon qualities. It brings a calculated hit of classicism to a cool, minimalist interior, but it can deliver streamlined modernity to one that is layered and super decorated. These days, says Campbell-Rey’s Charlotte Rey, it’s all about the mix: “It is important to not be afraid to mix them with color and other periods. Perhaps you place a Memphis Milano lamp on top of a Biedermeier sideboard? Being too respectful can make it feel overly polite.”
With so many design trends shaping the way we think about decorating our homes, it can be tempting to go for on-trend styles when choosing home upgrades. While some trends incorporate elements that can last, there are also lots of trends that will look dated within a few years. Finding the right balance between keeping your home fresh and contemporary while avoiding looks with a short shelf life can be a challenge, but there are some simple things to keep in mind that can help you focus on enduring style.
Decorate with what you love
The first rule of timeless style is to love what you have in your home. Decorate with your own tastes in mind, even if they don’t match what’s currently the most popular wall color or the trending fabric for a sofa. Since you’re the one who has to live with it, picking finishes and fabrics that make you feel happy in a space.
Go with vintage
While various vintage styles will go in and out of fashion, depending on the current direction the design industry is heading, a well-made vintage piece that you like will outlast the trends and become an anchor of your interior design style. Look for vintage pieces that you are drawn to but also ones made from good quality materials like solid wood, natural stone, and handcrafted metal. Choosing larger furniture pieces can also help guide your choices on smaller accent items by giving you a color and texture framework to work from.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match
Combining vintage items with newer ones that have a similar color palette, choosing fabrics for upholstery and curtains that can highlight colors you like in your furniture, and mixing textures on rugs, accent pieces, and moldings can allow your style to be easily updated by intermingling more on-trend pieces with older, more classic ones without seeming out of place.
Choose function over form
Choose furniture and fixtures that truly belong in your space. Shoehorning a gigantic sofa into a small living room because you like it not only won’t work well for everyday use, but it will look out of place, and its appeal will fade faster than a piece that looks like it was made for the space. This type of decorating can accurately be called “slow decorating” because finding the perfect piece for a room can take a little longer. But overall, you’ll be happier with the result.
Go bold with art
If you want to add some bold color without committing to a saturated wall color or vibrant upholstery, art can be your guide. Choosing art is fun, and it can be a great way to add a unique look to your space. Finding art that speaks to you and your tastes and experiences will make your home feel more your own and will keep your functional design style dynamic and entertaining.
Add some plants
Houseplants are always in style, and choosing some that fit your tastes is a great way to liven up your interior. Even if your plant pots go out of style, you can swap out the pots for more contemporary colors or shapes. Humans tend to be attracted to plants in our homes, in part because of their calming and pleasing qualities, so they’re a good addition to an interior look with some longevity.
Choose long-lasting materials
Consider the quality of materials you use for things like flooring or countertops. Choosing natural stone and wood, or even less traditional materials for indoors like brick can help create a timeless look and feel to your home. Choosing long-lasting materials will also mean you likely won’t need new floors, new countertops, or a new backsplash for many years.
Mirrors are a wonderfully versatile design element that can instantly add charm and light to your interior space. Using mirrors in home decor is all about precision, passion and fascination, one that will intrigue you and take you on a journey to a mystical space. The use of mirrors in Victorian-style interior design is an experience of opulence and every element of décor drips with grandeur. It is truly a sight and a pleasure to behold, with exquisite chandeliers, wood carvings and staircases in addition to traditional mirrors. When designed wisely, mirrors can create stunning optical illusions, make rooms appear larger and even create infinite images. They have the ability to reshape our perception of space, making it feel larger and brighter. (Also read: Home decor tips: 4 trendy ways to use tableware to elevate your dining experience )

Atreyee Choudhury, principal interior architect at De Panache shared with HT Lifestyle some creative tips and innovative ideas to elevate your home interiors with mirrors.

1. Transform dark space in your home interiors
Brighten up the dark corners in your space by adding mirrors which will help bounce light around the room making it more welcoming and timeless aesthetic.
2. Place an ornate carved vintage mirror above your foyer console
Mirrors are a worthy alternative to expensive paintings. An elaborate mirror carved from solid wood or metal can be an attractive addition to the hallways of your home. Make a statement with a huge vintage mirror in your living room.
3. Use edge-bevelled tinted mirror work for the bar area backsplash
Use edge-bevelled mirror work as a backsplash for the bar area. It will amplify light and make the bar stand out in your dining or living space.
4. Opt for bronze or grey tinted mirror for the wardrobe shutters
The walk-in closet might be a humble space, but it is a space where magic happens when you get ready for a new day. A full-length wardrobe shutter is the epitome of luxury. A full-length mirror wardrobe is the most essential as it serves the functional aspect along with creating an illusion of heightened extravagance. Mirrors can be integrated into the furniture design as well. Use the mirror-shuttered furniture as an accent piece in the interior of your Foyer or Dining Console. Styling coffee tables with black tinted mirrors can add elegance to your living room space.
5. Decorate the backdrop of alcoves/niches
A niche or alcove in your living/dining room can be instantly transformed by using a mirror as a backdrop. This creates the illusion of depth and reflects the artefacts displayed in the niche.
Mirrors are a powerful element that can magnify the space. By placing mirrors strategically in your residence you can create an overwhelming sense of space. Mirror not only transforms your space but also invites you to love yourself, celebrate your inner beauty and reflect the unique you.
