This time, we’re diving into something a tad more tangible than Cher Horowitz’s enviable wardrobe: her iconic Beverly Hills mansion. Or so we thought.
Buckle up, because we’re about to spill the tea on the real location of Cher’s Beverly Hills mansion – and trust us, Alicia Silverstone’s character would definitely not be on board with the address.
Picture this: the sprawling, sun-kissed mansion where Cher and Josh shared that oh-so-sweet kiss. The kitchen where a clueless Cher attempted to bake, and the lavish pool where the gang chilled to Kids In America.
Feels like a page taken straight out of the Beverly Hills, 90210 handbook, right? Plot twist: the real deal is nestled not in the hills of Beverly but in the Valley!
That’s right, Cher’s house is actually in Encino, in the San Fernando Valley.
But here’s the kicker: the Encino location, a suburban neighborhood, is quite the departure from the Beverly Hills glam portrayed in the movie.
Not only that, but Cher would have HATED being called a Valley Girl (a term that we owe to musician Frank Zappa, btw).
In the 1995 movie, the San Fernando Valley is mentioned and featured in a few scenes, notably when Cher is robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot after mistakenly driving onto the freeway, leading to a very stressful situation for her.
This scene is one of the few direct interactions Cher has with the Valley, showcasing her sheltered Beverly Hills life clashing with the broader Los Angeles area.
The real-life ‘Clueless’ house in Encino
So first, let’s get something out of the way: while Hollywood movies have long used the San Fernando Valley / Beverly Hills divide to highlight the social and geographical contrasts within the city (first example that comes to mind is Karate Kid and the new Cobra Kai sequel series), Encino is actually a very sought-after and safe neighborhood.
In fact, the median sale price for Encino homes in early 2024 stands at a hefty $1,900,000.
While that’s considerably less than what Beverly Hills homes sell for (the median sale price for the ritzy, star-studded neighborhood is $3.7M), houses in Encino are notoriously luxurious — with significantly more square footage than their counterparts in the Hills.
And Cher’s Clueless house is no exception.
This 9,441-square-foot behemoth boasts 7 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, and commands yearly property taxes north of $40k. Built in 1993, just a hop and a skip before Clueless hit the big screen, its fresh design had us all green with envy.
However, it’s worth noting that scenes taking place inside the house were filmed elsewhere, on a soundstage.
The house, sitting pretty at 5148 Louise Ave on a 2-acre lot, hasn’t switched hands since it was built back in 1993. The last publicly recorded sale was a land transaction in 1980 for $680,000.
Fast forward to today, and the house is pegged at a cool $7 million. Not too shabby, huh? But, surprisingly, it’s considerably cheaper than the next Clueless house on our list.
Dionne’s real Beverly Hills digs
Now, let’s dish about Dionne’s house. Unlike Cher’s Encino residence, Dionne’s Tudor-style mansion truly sits in the heart of Beverly Hills.
Boasting similar specs to Cher’s house but with a Beverly Hills zip code, this property screams luxury — and is considerably more expensive than the Horowitz residence.
Last sold in 2008 for over $10 million, its current value hovers around $17 million – making it way pricier than Cher’s home.
But it’s also worth noting that the house that sits on the lot today is completely different from the Tudor-style home that graced our screens three decades ago.
Property records show that the house at 705 N Sierra Dr in Beverly Hills sold twice since the movie’s 1995 debut: once in 1998, when it commanded a $3,350,030 sale price, and then again in 2008, when it sold for three times that amount, $10,650,000. So it does look like in between these two owners, a new house was built on the 0.51-acre lot.

Food and drink at the Plumeria Lounge
Some people judge lounges based on the food offerings. At Honolulu’s Plumeria Lounge, the food is solidly mediocre and spare. There is a self-service buffet with complimentary light snacks.
Expect some apples, cheese, small sandwiches and soup.
There are also a few types of prepackaged snacks such as pretzels and gummies. Delightfully, though, there are cookie jars with Hawaiian desserts including Honolulu Cookie Company shortbread and Mele Macs macadamia nuts.

Honolulu Airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Both are connected post-security, which makes it possible to access the Plumeria Lounge even if you’re flying out of Terminal 2, but it could be a long walk. You also could take the Wiki Wiki Shuttle between the terminals.
Other HNL lounges to consider
Honolulu’s other Priority Pass Lounge is the I.A.S.S. Hawaii Lounge. It’s adorned with colorful walls, plumeria print chairs and a view of lush plants outside. It might be more aesthetically appealing, but the snacks at the I.A.S.S. lounge are almost nonexistent, so if you prioritize complimentary food, the Plumeria lounge is the better choice.

The Plumeria Lounge is hardly making any lists of best airport lounges. But if you received complimentary access anyway (by purchasing a premium airfare or having a Priority Pass membership), then it’s tough to complain about this lounge.
The food isn’t fancy, but few airport meals are. You’ll have a place to set down your bag. And don’t overlook the unlimited supply of coffee, soda and other drinks. The Honolulu Cookie Company shortbread treats are tasty, too.
As far as whether it’s worth purchasing a day pass, that’s a tougher decision. If you’ll otherwise purchase multiple adult beverages elsewhere in the terminal, then that might end up justifying a good chunk of the $40 day pass fee right there. If you’ve got a long layover, a delayed flight or just got to the airport way too early, then it might be easier to justify the day pass simply given how many more hours you’ll get out of your stay.

From nostalgic styles making a comeback to innovative responses to how we live today, there were many stand-out moments in the world of interior design this year. Reviewing them retrospectively, the selections sum up the past year’s tentpole memories—from the design fair debuts we’re still thinking about to the interiors that will inspire well into the new year. Before diving into the design forecasts and color predictions for 2024, take a minute to reflect on the home decor trends that ruled interiors this year.
Forget the subtlety of travertine (last year’s surface du jour) or the always-in elegance of snow-white Carrara. This year was all about an eye-popping specimen—strong veining, unusual colors, and (for the ultra-daring) perhaps a graphic mix of both. Surfaces need not blend into the background; they can say something too. Let’s call it personality marble—that essential dose of pattern that can make any interior pop. Take, for instance, the freestanding onyx bar Roman and Williams turned into a showstopping moment in Gwyneth Paltrow’s Montecito living room, or the all-over marble bathroom of Tinder founder Sean Rad and his wife, Lizzie Grover Rad, conjured by designer Jane Hallworth. Consider it a new kind of conversation piece for the home.

This year, we witnessed a surge in designers adding color, pattern, and artistic flair to their projects with hand-painted tile. “I’ll tile just about anything,” says interior designer Jessica Jubelirer, who applied the treatment to the hearth, the bathrooms, the baseboards, and, most memorably, inset in the closet doors in a lakeside Wisconsin family home. Meanwhile, in a historic Connecticut family home designed by Virginia Tupker, Delft and Portuguese tiles create a sort of wainscoting in the entryway and bathrooms, as well as fireplace surrounds. In the kitchen of that project, hand-painted tile adds a splash of pattern (drawn from a William Morris motif) as a backsplash. Practical and durable with an artisan flair, hand-painted tile adds visual interest wherever needed. Adds Jubilerer: “Kitchens, bathrooms, and fireplaces can all benefit from its practicality and beauty.”

This spring’s design fair circuit hinted at a return to the industrial minimalism, high-tech style of the ’70s and ’80s—an industrial revolution of the interior, if you will. In April we returned from Milan with notes about a minimalism resurgence, with a particular emphasis on industrial materials. Knoll had reissued some of high-tech star Joe D’Urso’s super-adaptable and sleek low tables from the ’80s. Ledongil Workshop’s experimental lighting and furnishings, on display at Ordet gallery, felt like an elevated take on track lighting. And at Drop City, designer Daisuke Yamamoto showcased a collection of clean-lined chairs made of the most frequently trashed construction material: lightweight gauge steel. Indeed, industrial materials and minimalist silhouettes were the protagonists of this year’s debuts.

As of late, a handful of brands and interior designers have redirected their gaze to the historic textile that oozes opulence, repackaging it for today’s quiet luxury. Interior designer Sophie Ashby, who recently wrapped a dressing room in a pale pink Dedar moire, praises the home decor trend for its ability to expand space: “When used in the right way it can really enhance a space, enveloping the interior with tactility whilst also subtly playing with light to make smaller spaces—such as dressing rooms or hidden nooks—appear larger.”

In Lauren Dupont’s Connecticut home, designed by Stephen Sills, a pair of antique botanical prints purchased at auction hang in her dressing room, and in her Palm Beach kitchen, Aerin Lauder mounted a grid of floral prints in the service pantry. Sure, there’s nothing innately groundbreaking about florals when it comes to home decor trends, but perhaps that’s just what gives them eternal life.

The late January auction of iconic Hamptons estate ‘La Dune’ marked the first time a property was included in an art auction at Sotheby’s. The $88.48 million winning bid on ‘La Dune’ also made the estate the most valuable property ever auctioned live at Sotheby’s.
‘La Dune’ was included in Sotheby’s weeklong ‘Visions of America’ auction, which included art and luxury items that showcased “the heights of American craftsmanship in the finest art and objects.”
The estate consists of two residences on a four-acre property on Gin Lan in the Southampton area of Long Island. The residences were offered individually and collectively via Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions in partnership with Harald Grant of Sotheby’s International Realty, Tim Davis of The Corcoran Group, and Cody Vichinsky, the president and founding partner of Bespoke Real Estate.
Bidders from North America and the Caribbean competed for the residences in the auction room, on the telephone via a team of specialist and online. Ultimately, both residences sold to a single bidder, with the winning bid being 121.2% higher than the opening bid.
“The remarkable final sale price for ‘La Dune’ reflects its stunning design, exclusive address, and historic pedigree,” said Chad Roffers, the founder and CEO of Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions, who recently appeared on HousingWire’s Power House Podcast. “It’s a result that our team, as the world’s leading luxury property auctioneer, is best positioned to obtain. We deal in real market value, which is ultimately measured by what a group of qualified bidders are willing to pay for a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of real estate like ‘La Dune.’”
Boasting more than 11,000 square feet with 10 bedrooms, eight bathrooms and staff quarters, ‘La Dune’s’ main house was designed by Stanford White. The second residence, which was built in 2001, was designed by French architect Francois Cartoux.
“I am pleased to have partnered with Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions on yesterday’s sale of the iconic ‘La Dune’ residence,” Grant said in a statement. “This extraordinary oceanfront compound represents one of the finest offerings in the Hamptons; it is no surprise that this auction resulted in a record sale.”
The $88.48 million sale includes a 12% buyer’s premium that goes to the auctioneers and the real estate brokers who marketed it. ‘La Dune’ has been listed on and off since 2016, and was once asking $150 million.
In 2022, Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions broke the world record for the most expensive residence ever sold at auction and the highest sale for any U.S. property listed that year, with the successful auction of the $141 million California estate, known as ‘The One.’

When deciding which appliances to replace, Stephanie Duncan, senior home designer at Opendoor, recommends opting for sleek, stainless-steel appliances. These appliances, like a new refrigerator and stove, should inspire potential buyers to imagine life in that kitchen — and encourage them to make an offer right away.
As an additional shopping pro tip, Duncan said you don’t need to buy the most expensive appliances on the market.
“While it is important to have updated appliances, it is not necessary to buy the top-of-the-line options. Not overspending on the most luxe brands will ensure people see a return on their investment,” said Duncan.

Stained wood tones are making a comeback in kitchens as more homeowners move away from head-to-toe white kitchens. Julie Hampton, interior designer and project director at Freemodel, said some of the popular stains she sees range from light cerused oak to inviting medium hickory shades.
The good news for buyers is that it’s cost-effective to shift cabinet finish from paint to stain. According to Hampton, homeowners who choose stain over paint can save $3,000 to $5,000 on their project.

Upgraded Kitchen Cabinet Hardware
The spotlight is on kitchen cabinets and cupboards this year.
Buyers trying to avoid overspending on their kitchen renovations are recommended by Duncan to upgrade knobs and handles on their cabinets or cupboards. Switching the hardware out is an effective way to upgrade these spaces without needing to buy new pieces.
Storage as a Decorative Element
Buyers this year are getting inspired by organization-themed TV shows, Instagram Reels and TikTok when it comes to kitchen storage for specific purposes.
Amber Shay, national VP of design studios at Meritage Homes, has seen everyday items, like snacks and supplies, being organized into specific pantry containers. Shay said there’s also storage being used as a decorative element with containers in fun colors and designs to match the décor scheme.
For the full kitchen, Hampton said buyers can expect to spend $3,000 to $6,000 on customizing cabinet interiors. Other options to explore, if you have a big budget to work with, include appliance garages or pantries with pullout shelves.
Those on a budget can still customize their cabinet interiors. “Homeowners should budget $150 to $1,200 for each cabinet to add options such as drawer pullouts, appliance lifts or converting a cabinet with doors to drawers,” Hampton recommended.

Sanctuary Bathrooms
The primary bathroom is getting a makeover as a relaxing retreat inside homes.
Buyers seeking to create a luxurious, spa-like atmosphere in their bathrooms are recommended by Shay to explore the following investments:
Adding vintage rugs, art and other décor to make the primary bathroom look and feel like a welcoming place of respite. (Opendoor’s survey notes Americans spend an average of $1,599 per year on home décor.)
Embracing matte black. “A matte black faucet seamlessly blends with on-trend iron and aged brass light fixtures in a bathroom,” said Shay.
Using plants as accessories. This helps bring the outside indoors.
Hotel-Style Living Rooms
Buyers don’t need to spend a lot of money to create a stylish living room that they love.
“Think of items like upscale hotel-style bedding, monogrammed towels, cozy throw pillows or a stylish mirror. You can keep your eye out for original art when you’re on the hunt for furniture at thrift stores,” said Shay.
“Also, consider investing in a high-quality area rug that’s designed to look like a priceless heirloom — it can set the tone for the entire space,” she added.

Eco-Friendly Laundry Room Solutions
More homeowners are prioritizing eco-friendly solutions in their laundry rooms.
Hampton uses the example of homeowners choosing to air-dry clothes instead of putting them into the dryer. This choice is both environmentally friendly and causes less damage to garments.
“Laundries may include pullout drying racks that are hidden in the cabinets to maintain the aesthetic,” said Hampton. “Popular systems with installation cost around $1,500.”
Interior Painting Is the Second Remodeling Priority
According to Opendoor’s survey results, kitchens are the number-one remodel priority for homeowners with the number two slot going to interior painting. (New lighting fixtures and new floors take the third and fourth priority spots, respectively.)
As far as which colors are popular with buyers, Duncan said subdued greens and blues are emerging to the forefront. Both shades offer grounding and stability to homeowners.
Shay also agrees with Duncan’s color assessment, adding in her color recommendations of sea blue and darker, moody blues for interior painting.
Buyers who choose sea blue will be able to complement any marble and other natural stones in a space or use it as a fun accent while a moody blue is ideal for a sophisticated and dramatic space. If you dare create a bolder look in your home, Shay said to use dark blue as an interior wall or ceiling color or for painted cabinets and furniture.
