After you’ve gone through the effort of finding that perfect place, one of the worst things to learn is that you’ve been outbid by another buyer or real estate investor. Losing your dream house is discouraging, and it can be difficult to pick up the pieces to try and find another home to fall in love with.
In order to make sure this doesn’t happen to you, here are four ways to win in the competitive home buying market along the Wasatch Front.
1. Get real-time data
The Wasatch Front market is competitive. In fact, according to recent media reports, the market is on fire meaning there are many more buyers than homes for sale. The most recent data shows that Wasatch Front homes were selling much faster than in the previous years at an average of 48 days on the market in 2015, versus 62 days on the market during the same period in 2014. In 2016, preliminary data shows homes are selling even faster. In this hot market, you need real-time data to stay ahead of your competitors. Information about market conditions, standard practices, and average listing and sale prices can help you be ready to put together the right offer. This information is available to any homebuyer through real estate websites and apps such as Zillow and Trulia.
When you do your homework, you will understand the various dynamics in your specific target neighborhood and you’ll be ready to make a quick and well-informed offer once your dream home hits the market.
2. Be ready with your team
There’s a lot of complexity in the process of buying a home, and it takes a whole team of experts to help you land your new home. First-time homebuyers need to be aware of the process and make sure their team consists of an attorney, lender, home inspector, homeowner’s insurance provider and title/escrow company. Buyers who are able to act quickly to complete paperwork and other important steps have a better chance of getting a home under contract and then successfully closing the deal.
Whether this is your first home or not, it’s smart to be pre-approved by a lender before you begin the search for a home. This will help you know exactly how much you can afford and will guide you in putting together a competitive offer that works with your budget. Many lenders make it easy to get prequalified on their websites. When you do make an offer, sending your prequalification letter with the offer will show the sellers you are a serious and qualified buyer.
When you have all the necessary pieces in place, you’re ready to make your move. If you see a home you love, you should take a tour in person and then make an offer as quickly as possible.
3. Browse owner listings
Many homeowners are now listing their homes themselves without the help of a real estate agent. New services like Homie, which allow homeowners to sell without traditional real estate agents, are emerging to help sellers save substantially on selling costs.
As a buyer, you want to find the best deal on the best home. To make sure you don’t overlook any available inventory, it’s a good idea to browse “for sale by owner” listings on sites like KSL Homes and Homie, as well as Zillow and the traditional MLS. The most important thing is finding the home that is the perfect fit for your family, so the more places you look, the better your odds of discovering a hidden gem.
Just because a seller is moving doesn’t mean they’ve stopped caring about the property. In fact, it’s often the opposite — most sellers want to see their homes end up in good hands. Believe it or not, homes don’t always go to the highest bidder or even to the buyers that can close the fastest. Sometimes sellers really value non-monetary factors when deciding which offer to select.
When you work directly with the seller, you can prove to them that you have their best interests in mind. It is a great idea to share your story with the seller, or write a cover letter to your offer describing your love for their home. Sometimes it’s the personal connection, rather than the financial considerations, that seal the deal.
4. Negotiate realistically
You want to get into a home as quickly as possible, but you still need to be realistic in your negotiations. Don’t chase your “dream house” without considering the costs. If you find a home you like but it is out of your price range, or requires lots of repairs and upgrades you can’t afford to take on, don’t get too invested. A better one will come along soon.
When you put your offer together, keep in mind that home ownership has added costs compared to renting such as maintenance costs, taxes and insurances fees. These need to be included in your budget from the get-go. Don’t overextend yourself in the heat of the chase and end up with a mortgage payment and other home ownership costs that will stretch your budget too thin.
In addition, don’t make lots of lowball offers just hoping to score a great deal. This tactic rarely works, especially in a hot market, and can sometimes keep you from getting a home that you really like. If you have done your homework, you should know the price range for homes in your target neighborhood. Make an offer that reflects the home’s value and features, but still fits within that price range.
Another way to make your offer stand out and give you an advantage in negotiations is to use an attorney instead of a real estate agent to help you write and submit your offer. Real estate agents get paid three percent of the purchase price when they help you buy a home, so if you don’t have an agent, the seller won’t have to pay that three percent. That means you are much more likely to have your offer accepted while still saving money compared to other buyers that are using agents.
Today, there are even services like Homie that connect you with a real estate attorney to help you prepare an offer and then provide you with software to guide you through the rest of the home buying process and connect you with a team of preferred service providers — all for free!
Negotiating can be the toughest part of buying your new home, but the benefits are well worth the effort it takes to do it right.
Winning a home on the Wasatch Front
Utah’s Wasatch Front is an amazing place to live with a high quality of life, so there’s no question that it’s a great place to buy a home. Because of this, however, the Wasatch Front real estate market is hot, and in a competitive climate, you have to be extra prepared so that you don’t let the home of your dreams slip away.
Make sure you’re in the best position to submit and negotiate your offer by doing your homework, assembling the right team, using an attorney and looking at all available listings on your own. If you do these things, you’ll be ready to make your move the minute you walk in the door and know the house you’re touring feels like home.

One great way that I’ve found to save money is to buy things that I would normally buy at a Bricks and Mortar store, at an online store.
You can often find ways to make it cheaper to buy online using one of my favorite things – Coupon Codes!
There are a ton of coupon code sites out there, and some of them are better than others.
Coupon Code Sites
Here are a few of my favorite sites online to save by using coupon codes and discounts:
Retailmenot.com: This website is one of the better ones out there. Not only do they allow you to search for coupon codes by website or product type, you can search by keywords as well. They also have a rating system for the coupons telling you how successful people have been when trying to use each coupon code. Some may be 50% successful, while others might be 100%. You can also try out their firefox extension which will show you what coupon codes are available for any one site that you’re browsing. For example, if you are on Amazon, you will get a notification bar saying that there are 22 coupons available for this website.
Insideredbox.com:This coupon code website has allowed me to get all of my movie rentals for free. For those of you who don’t know yet, the Redbox is a movie rental kiosk that are found at Mcdonalds restaurants, grocery stores and other retail outlets across the country. Normally movie rentals at redbox are only $1 per night anyway, but after using coupon codes found on the Insideredbox website, all your movies will be free (assuming you return them the next day). Can’t be free movie rentals!
The Bargainist.com: Great website to find deals, coupons, tips and freebies. They are updated constantly, and have a great eye pleasing design.
Couponheaven.com: Another site with easy to use search functionality that allows you to find coupons to some of the most popular online shopping destinations.
Honey: Honey is a Chrome extension that helps you to find coupon codes when you’re checking out on a retailer’s site. They also allow you to check the price on an item and set price alerts. A must use extension.
Rakuten: Rakuten is an online coupon codes and cash back website where you can save by shopping through their online portal or app. I’ve used them to save hundreds of dollars over the years.
So there are a few of the better coupon and hot deals forums sites. Remember, just because you can find a good deal, doesn’t mean you have to buy it. Sometimes the best deal of all, is no deal. But if you have to buy something, don’t forget the coupon codes. Save your money!

Tips to help turn those homebuying dreams into reality.
From outstanding credit card debt to massive student loans, financial difficulties are barring more and more millennials from becoming homeowners. While the vision of buying a first home may seem hopelessly far away for many, there are strategies and tools like Mint’s home affordability calculator that are available to make it happen. These expert tips can help turn those dreams into reality.
Tips for Saving Money
Consider replacing plastic with cash
One excellent strategy for saving money is to spend two weeks (or a month, if you’re feeling ambitious) paying for everything in cash. It’s easier to rack up debt when using credit cards because the deductions are all digital. When handing over cash, you physically see and feel the money leaving your wallet. Using cash can help train your brain to associate your spending habits with actual money being spent, and it’ll inspire you to start holding onto it.
Consolidate debt
Multiple debts can feel paralyzing. The trick is to start attacking the smallest balance first. Paying more than your minimum required payment and making more frequent payments can save on interest for that balance and offer some stress relief. Once you’ve decimated that debt, start applying the same strategy towards the next smallest balance. Rinse and repeat.
Make budgeting a game
One way to make budgeting more tolerable is to turn it into a game. Challenge yourself to only spend a certain amount each week on, for example, takeout. The key is to try to hold yourself accountable for every dollar you spend.
Watch automatic deductions
Many conveniences are automatically deducted from bank accounts annually and monthly, especially for millennials. Services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, gym memberships, and phone bills can drain your bank account — but they don’t have to. First, make a list of all your automatic deductions. It might be shocking to see all of them all added up. Next, decide how many of them are necessary or benefit you. Cutting even one service out can start to make a difference.
Tips for Saving on Homeowners Insurance
Add security features
A great way to cut down on your homeowner’s insurance premium is to install an alarm system or other security features in your home, There are plenty of affordable systems on the market these days, including custom design options available from SimpliSafe. Decreasing the risk of burglary will give you peace of mind and a noticeable break on your insurance bill, too.
Share your space (and rent)
Being a homeowner doesn’t have to mean paying for an entire house by yourself. Besides buying a two-bedroom apartment, other options exist for sharing a home and cutting down on costs. Planning to rent out a room in your home is an easy way to throw extra money at your premium each month. Some new homeowners also choose to split a duplex with another tenant, rather than buying a single-family home.
Buy new
Newer homes may come with bigger price tags, but they also have the advantage of cheaper insurance. New buildings pose less risk for insurance companies, so premiums are lower. Although that 1972, recently renovated house looks charming and like-new, be sure to weigh the cost over time versus a more recent build. Things like plumbing and a new roof may have been overlooked during the renovation and both of these can come with big price tags.
Shop smart
Working with an experienced independent insurance agent is the best way to save money on homeowners insurance. An agent knows how to shop the market and find the best deals for you, as well as tricks to lower your premium even further. They can also hook you up with a policy that meets your unique needs.

#RealMoneyTalk: Do We Need Additional Income?
Next Post
What is a 1099 Tax Form? (Guide to IRS Form…
The two worst years of my financial life were 2007 to 2009. Before 2007, our income was low, but our expenses were low, too. We didn’t save much, but we didn’t spend more than we earned, either.
Then we saw our dream house. And we bought it while we still owned our first house. For two years, we had two mortgages. Suddenly, even though our income was slowly increasing, our expenses had skyrocketed. We cut our expenses as much as we could, but you can only cut them so much when you bought a fixer-upper with squirrel holes in the siding, leaking toilets that threatened to fall through the rotten bathroom floors, and desperately needing a new roof. (I guess we have low standards for our dream house!) As if that weren’t painful enough, I was also trying to finish grad school. It was an ugly time, and I was desperate.
Along with our finances, my desperation also manifested itself physically: I gained about 25 pounds, and developed heartburn and other GI difficulties, along with some self-diagnosed depression. I was so tired all the time.
That desperation bled into other areas of my life, too. My relationships suffered. I didn’t love myself, so how could I love others? And, seemingly unrelated, my house was always messy. Not really bad, but definitely substandard compared with the rest of my friends and family.
Sounds terrible, doesn’t it? It was. I remember sitting at my kitchen table one night, thinking that my life was in shambles, and I wasn’t sure it would ever get better.
If your life feels the same right now, I want to share four things that changed our lives — for the better.
1. I repaired my relationships. While I needed to improve my relationships with my friends and family, my marriage had been suffering the most. My husband and I were so stressed that we weren’t taking time to communicate. Even though we both had the same goals, we were on parallel paths, each of us working so hard to get ahead financially. But we weren’t tapping into the synergy of two people who work together.
One December night, when things blew up, we looked at each other and realized we didn’t like what was happening to us. That night, we prioritized our marriage over our finances. Strangely enough, our finances improved, too.
2. I decluttered my life. I had been keeping things because “we will use them some time” and what’s the problem with storing them? When we decided our life had to be as simple as possible while things were so stressful, it was time to say goodbye to the things we weren’t using. Most of the items were actually given away, so while I sold some things, the biggest benefit wasn’t financial…at least, not directly.
But it was more than our possessions. We also evaluated our activities (volunteer, church, community, etc.) and decided, with so much stress and so little time, we had to eliminate some.
I struggle to understand why decluttering made such a difference to us financially. But I think since I had less to clean around and more empty space, it made me less stressed, less overwhelmed, and more likely to have the energy to tackle our challenges. And having a lighter schedule allowed us more time to concentrate on our relationship and getting ourselves out of the financial hole.
It was one step that didn’t cost us much, but made such a huge improvement.
3. I set up a personal escrow account. I had tried budgeting in many ways, but I just didn’t stick with it. As stressed as I felt, it had to be easy. And all the methods I tried weren’t easy enough.
I evaluated our bills and found that we had the most difficulty paying bills that weren’t monthly, bills like our property taxes, house insurance, car insurance, and so on. For instance, our property taxes were always due in July and September, and I knew that. But whenever I got the bill, I would be surprised and wonder where we would get the money to pay for it. And life would be even more stressful while we worked overtime and cut our expenses to try to make the big tax payments.
Thing is, this happened all the time. I would be surprised by our house insurance bill one month. The next month, by our car insurance bill. I’ve never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but this was ridiculous. It also wasn’t fun.
So finally I had an idea. I totaled up all our non-monthly bills and divided by 12. The only budgeting I was going to do was save that much per month in a targeted savings account that I will talk about in a minute. When a bill came, I would go to our “yearly expenses” savings account, transfer the money to our checking account, and pay the bill. Proactive, not reactive. It has made my life so much easier with so little effort.
4. I set up targeted savings accounts. Speaking of those targeted savings accounts, I opened up a few savings accounts in July 2009. One of them is our yearly expenses savings account. Others include two vehicle replacement savings, an emergency fund, and our charity account. I didn’t think we could afford to save very much and, at the beginning, I was right. But as things began to improve, I kept bumping up our automatic savings contributions.
An advantage of saving in this way is that it’s been easier to stay motivated. And you know I need help with that. When I see our “New Car Fund” savings account, saving money has a name and a purpose.
The results
These steps had a domino effect on the rest of my life. Today, I am 25 pounds lighter and much less stressed about finances and life, in general. My relationships are healthy, and my life is not in shambles. I am a different person from the desperate gal who sat at my kitchen table a few years ago.
I can’t explain why all four steps made such a difference, but they did. And of course, there were other things that had a huge impact on our improvement as well, like selling the first house, finishing grad school, getting raises, and earning side income.
But the improvement began with four small steps. And I believe these four steps can improve the financial state of anyone, despite their income level.
Is eating healthy one of your New Year’s Resolutions? Eating healthy in some ways is such an easy thing to do: Eat more vegetables; cut out sugar; and cook at home. Simple, right? But then life happens. You are tired, the kids are hungry, and the pantry is empty. In this moment, it is so easy to give into the lure of fast food and pre-packaged meals. Then there goes all your healthy eating efforts down the drain.
One of the most important strategies to combat this pitfall and stay on track is to keep a well-stocked and organized pantry. If your shelves are stocked with healthy foods that are easily accessible than putting together a nutritious meal is much simpler and stress-free. Check out our 5 tips to organize and stock your pantry to make healthy eating easier on you.
5 Tips for a Well-stocked and Organized Pantry
Tip #1: Assess Your Pantry Contents and Space First pull out everything and group like items together both in terms of type and size, and throw away out of date items and junk food. Measure your space and determine the size of your largest and smallest pantry item then re-arrange shelves to accommodate these sizes.
Tip #2: Create an Essentials List Think about the foods you use to cook with everyday; the snacks you need to keep on hand and the healthy foods you want to incorporate into your diet. Make a master list of all the foods you want to store in your pantry at any given time. Download my pantry essentials list here. Finally, plan for storing all of these items within your space for a well-stocked and organized pantry.
Tip #3: Use Shelf Organizers and Re-usable Containers To store all of these pantry essentials and make them accessible use gravity fed racks, lazy-susans, and shelf risers. Store small items, packets, or awkwardly shaped foods in baskets. Put essential pantry items like flour, sugar, and grains in air-tight canisters.
Tip #4: Put a Label on It Put pretty labels on anything you cannot see in to or on canisters when the contents are not easily identifiable. Use large labels that include cooking instructions with measurements on them to make cooking healthy foods easier.
Tip #5: Make Space for a Grocery List Designate a space to make notes about re-stocking. A chalkboard is a great idea if you have the wall space and want to incorporate a little farmhouse style into your apartment. You could also print off your master pantry essentials list. Place it on a clipboard attached to the back of a cupboard door, and then mark needed items.
A well-stocked and organized pantry is key to keeping your healthy eating New Year’s Resolution and to make it less of a hassle. What are your essential items? Let us know below!

This is my second guest post at this blog. I am grateful to J.D. and his team’s humble gesture in allowing me to do it. I hope to provide the same value regular writers of this blog provide to you.
My grandmother was nearly illiterate, born and reared in rural India during the British occupation of the country. At the age of 14, she was abducted by the British army (later released), which ultimately caused her to marry early at the age of 16. She couldn’t complete school beyond basic education. Still, she became a very wise woman and mastered many skills.
My aunt happened to write down some of my grandmother’s home-remedy techniques from her narration. Recently, my cousin forwarded me a soft copy of that compilation. I’ll mention a few common symptoms and their natural cures, all at a fraction of the cost of medicine. But before that, let me tell you why I find home-based cures so beneficial.
The Benefits of Home Remedies
Drugs contain unnatural substances and chemicals, which are foreign elements to our body. Natural remedies, on the other hand, are not synthetic molecules like drugs; they are made of living organisms which we eat anyway.
Some drugs act as a manipulator and force the brain to think differently — an example is an anti-depressant. The problem with this is, the moment you stop taking the drug, the symptoms often recur.
Natural remedies have fewer side effects compared to prescription drugs, as drugs tend to alter the chemical and hormonal balance of our body.
Natural remedies are available at a fraction of the cost of prescription drugs. Your grocery bill will cover them.
The Benefits of Prescription Drugs
It is important to remember that most drugs are developed by studying the natural cures and identifying ingredients which actually affect the symptoms. Still, prescription drugs are more useful under most circumstances. They work faster. We can’t afford to be bedridden for days and hope for natural cures to work someday. Life is tough and we must get well sooner.
We don’t have time to be sick. Prescription drugs provide the quickest recovery. They start fighting the bacteria and antibodies as soon as we take them. You may argue that we take chemically altered substances every day, be it the milk or the apple, or even the chicken. They have pesticides, growth hormones and God knows what.
An Introduction to Home Remedies
My grandmother was raised in a 100 percent organic environment. With near zero pollution, she ate healthy, farm-harvested food. Since childhood, I took medicines almost for any illness; rarely was I given a natural cure, except honey and basil leaves for a cold. Our bodies are used to chemicals anyway; therefore, natural remedies may not work the way they worked for our grandparents. Still, there is no harm in detoxifying our bodies to the extent we can, over time. My grandmother’s advice may help to accomplish that goal.
Here are some excerpts from the treasure I was handed recently.
Acidity: Acidity is caused by excess acid secretion from the gastric gland, the acid which is used for digestion.
Chew a piece of clove, and take some time to swallow. It provides instant relief.
Another immediate relief is to eat a small cup of yogurt.
For more sustainable relief, drink warm water every day early in the morning.
Drink coconut water regularly.
Mix a few drops of honey in water to drink.
If you know what a jaggery is, suck a small cube of it after lunch/dinner.
A glass of water with a teaspoon of soda can also provide immediate cure.
A couple of pieces of dates can also give you instant relief.
Backache: If you happen to work in a chair, you may have this symptom already. As a software professional, I have had backaches for the last few years. The natural cure is garlic. Eat a couple of cloves of garlic every day.
Prepare an ointment by frying a few cloves of garlic in olive oil, strain and let it cool. Apply to your back every day.
Indian masala tea can be a cure too — the one with cloves or ginger. Take it daily. (Two cups of masala tea can boost your energy as well, which is a low-cost replacement of Red Bull or 5-Hour Energy drinks.)
Eating oranges, lemons and berries can reduce the pain over time.
Drinking water with a tablespoon of honey can make your day pain-free as well.
Cough and cold: When allergens or viral infections cause an inflammation in the upper respiratory tract, we get cough and cold. Here is a less-costly alternative to Tylenol or Excedrin. (This is a remedy I learned in childhood: My mother used to give me a teaspoon of honey and a few basil leaves –Indian Tulsi — to chew. To get instant relief from congestion of nasal passages, she used to heat water with some cloves, cardamoms and cinnamon sticks and peppercorns.)
A soup with a lot of garlic in it can also bring relief.
Cut okra into small pieces and boil it, inhale the steam to get relief as well.
Take a hot-water bath when you catch a cold.
Migraine: This is caused by a contraction of blood vessels in the head. It can be caused by stress, lack of sleep, anxiety, nicotine and alcohol consumption.
Concentrated grape juice can bring relief.
For a more sustainable remedy, put tomatoes and cabbage into your daily salad.
A daily dose of garlic can treat this symptom as well.
Grind cabbage leaves and apply to the affected area for relief.
When migraines occur, excuse yourself from work. Find a dark room and lie down. Exposure to sunlight may cause the migraine to intensify.
Per my grandmother, even if the migraine is in the back of your head, applying sandalwood powder on the forehead can cause blood vessels to function properly. You may have seen Indian religious workers applying a patch of sandalwood powder on the forehead throughout the day. It’s an age-old practice.
Snoring: I am afflicted with this disease for sure. My wife says I am the worst offender and she can’t sleep because of my snoring, so I have started following these tactics already.
Stop smoking. Smoking causes more mucus formation around the throat.
Go to the gym. Weight loss can even end snoring.
Alcohol increases snoring. (When you drink, you’d better sleep in a separate room!)
Sleep side-wise rather than on your back.
Avoid heavy meals before going to bed.
Stop eating oily/spicy foods at dinner.
Maintain a regular sleep schedule, and don’t sleep during the day.
Wash the bed sheets and pillow covers frequently, and even change your pillow after a few months. The dust and allergens can accumulate on them, causing nasal passage blocks.
Stress: It’s amazing that stress was a concern even 60 years ago in a rural village. Here is her wisdom, which may reduce stress because you’re saving money. But more than the money saved, the main point here is reducing the dependence on synthetic drugs.
Chewing Indian basil (Tulsi) leaves every day is the best natural cure.
Yoga and Dhyana (meditation) can also cure this.
Milk and almonds in the morning keep you fresh and energetic.
Bad eating, oily foods, eating meals quickly, and drinking alcohol may cause depression over time. One of her tips to cure stress is to “love everybody and everything”!
Applying betel leaves on your forehead can ease your tension.
A few ingredients which are repeated here (and in the rest of the natural cures my grandmother used but which I don’t mention here) are mint, honey, water and garlic. Have sufficient supply of these items at your home, if you plan to follow the tips.
Also, another synergy I can see here is the morning drinking and eating habits. If you start your day the right way, the rest of your day should follow that lead and keep you upbeat.
Readers, even if you rely on these natural remedies, when the situation warrants it, there’s no alternative to a doctor and the prescription medicine. You need to know when to rely on home remedies and when to go to a doctor. Don’t ignore your doctor for a bit.

We are going to under the cover and discover $14 an hour is how much per year.
For most Americans, this is hovering near minimum wage.
Let’s get this straight… This is not a livable wage.
If you are in high school or college and have support from your parents, then this is great spending money for you.
However, if you are making it on your own, $14 per hour will not make ends meet each month.
For most people, being at minimum wage is common and the goal is to make your way up the payscale and quickly!
In this post, we’re going to detail exactly what $14 an hour is how much a year. Also, we will break it down to know how much is made per month, bi-weekly, per week, and daily.
That will help you immensely with how you spend your money. Because too many times the hard-earned cash is brought home, but there is no actual plan for how to spend that money.
When living close to minimum wage, you must know how to manage money wisely.
More than likely, you are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to survive until the next paycheck. Take a deep breath and make this minimum wage just a season.
The ultimate goal is to make the most of your hourly wage with inspirations to make more money.
If that is something you want to do, then keep reading. You are in the right place.
$14 an Hour is How Much a Year?
When we ran all of our numbers to figure out how much is $14 per hour is an annual salary, we used the average working day of 40 hours a week.
40 hours x 52 weeks x $14 = $29,120
$29120 is the gross annual salary with a $14 per hour wage.
Breakdown of 14 Dollars an hour is how much a year
Typically, the average workweek is 40 hours and you can work 52 weeks a year. Take 40 hours times 52 weeks and that equals 2,080 working hours. Then, multiply the hourly salary of $14 times 2,080 working hours, and the result is $29,120.
That number is the gross income before taxes, insurance, 401K, or anything else is taken out. Net income is how much you deposit into your bank account.
Work Part Time?
But you may think, oh wait, I’m only working part time. So if you’re working part time, the assumption is working 20 hours a week at $14 an hour.
Only 20 hours per week. Then, take 20 hours times 52 weeks and that equals 1,040 working hours. Then, multiply the hourly salary of $14 times 1,040 working hours, and the result is $14,560.
How Much is $14 Per Month?
On average, the monthly amount would average $2,426.
Annual Amount of $20120 ÷ 12 months = $2426 per month
Since some months have more days and fewer days like February, you can expect months with more days to have a bigger paycheck. Also, this can be heavily influenced by how often you are paid and on which days you get paid.
Work Part Time?
Only 20 hours per week. Then, the monthly amount would average $1213.
How Much is $14 per Hour Per Week
This is a great number to know! How much do I make each week? When I roll out of bed and do my job, what can I expect to make at the end of the week?
Once again, the assumption is 40 hours worked.
40 hours x $14 = $560 per week.
Work Part Time?
Only 20 hours per week. Then, the weekly amount would be $280.
How Much is $14 per Hour Bi-Weekly
For this calculation, take the average weekly pay of $560 and double it.
$560 per week x 2 = $1120
Also, the other way to calculate this is:
40 hours x 2 weeks x $14 an hour = $1120
Work Part Time?
Only 20 hours per week. Then, the bi-weekly amount would be $560.
How Much is $14 Per Hour Per Day
This depends on how many hours you work in a day. For this example, we are going to use an eight-hour workday.
8 hours x $14 per hour = $112 per day.
If you work 10 hours a day for four days, then you would make $140 per day. (10 hours x $14 per hour)
Work Part Time?
Only 4 hours per day. Then, the daily amount would be $56.

Paid Time Off Earning 14 Dollars an Hour
Does your employer offer paid time off?
As an hourly, close to minimum wage employee, more than likely you will not get paid time off.
So, here are the scenarios for both cases.
For general purposes, we are going to assume you work 40 hours per week over the course of the year.
Case # 1 – With Paid Time Off
Most hourly employees, get two weeks of paid time off which is equivalent to 2 weeks of paid time off.
In this case, you would make $29120 per year.
This is the same as the example above for an annual salary making $14 per hour.
Case #2 – No Paid Time Off
Unfortunately, not all employers offer paid time off to their hourly employees. While that is unfortunate, it is best to plan for less income.
Life happens. There will be times you need to take time off for numerous reasons – sick time, handling an emergency, or even vacation.
So, let’s assume you take 2 weeks off without paid time off.
That means you would only work 50 weeks of the year instead of all 52 weeks. Take 40 hours times 50 weeks and that equals 2,000 working hours. Then, multiply the hourly salary of $14 times 2,000 working hours, and the result is $28,000.
40 hours x 50 weeks x $14 = $28000
You would average $112 per working day and nothing when you don’t work.
$14 an Hour is How Much a year After Taxes
Let’s be honest… Taxes can take up a big chunk of your paycheck. Thus, you need to know how taxes can affect your hourly wage.
This is why you always wondering why your take-home pay is so much less.
Also, every single person’s tax situation is different.
On the basic level, let’s assume a 12% federal tax rate and a 4% state rate. Plus a percentage is taken out for Social Security and Medicare (FICA) of 7.65%.
Gross Annual Salary: $29,120
Federal Taxes of 12%: $3,494
State Taxes of 4%: $1,165
Social Security and Medicare of 7.65%: $2,228
$14 an Hour per Year after Taxes: $22,233
This would be your net annual salary after taxes.
To turn that back into an hourly wage, the assumption is working 2,080 hours.
$22233 ÷ 2080 hours = $10.69 per hour
After estimated taxes and FICA, you are netting $10.69 an hour. That is $3.31 an hour less than what you planned.
This is a very highlighted example and can vary greatly depending on your personal situation. Therefore, here is a great tool to help you figure out how much your net paycheck would be.
$14 an Hour Budget – Example
You are probably wondering can I live on my own making 14 dollars an hour? How much rent can you afford at 14 an hour?
Using our Cents Plan Formula, this is the best case scenario on how to budget your $14 per hour paycheck.
When using these percentages, it is best to use net income because taxes must be paid.
In this example, above we calculated that $14 an hour was $10.69 after taxes. That would average $1853 per month.
According to the Cents Plan Formula, here is the high level view of a $14 per hour budget:
Basic Expenses of 50% = $926
Save Money of 20% = $371
Give Money of 10% = $185
Fun Spending of 20% = $371
Debt of 0% = $0
Obviously, that is not doable when living so close to minimum wage. So, you have to be strategic on ways to decrease your basic expenses and debt. Then, it will allow you more money to save and fun spending.
To further break down an example budget of $14 per hour, then using the ideal household percentages is extremely helpful.

Living on $14 Per Hour
Living close to minimum wage can be a very difficult situation.
Is it doable? Probably not for long.
You just have to be wiser (or frugal) with your money and how you spend the hard-earned cash you have been blessed with.
A lot of times when people are making under near the minimum wage mark, they feel like they are in this constant cycle that they can never keep up with (which completely makes sense it is hard!).
When your thoughts are constantly focused on how you are struggling to keep up with bills and expenses, that is all you focus on.
You need to do is change your money mindset.
This is what you say to yourself… Okay, I am making near minimum wage for now. I have aspirations and goals to increase how much I make. For now, I am going to make sure that I am able to live on my 14 dollars per hour. I’m going to try and avoid debt and payday loans at all costs.
Other Tips to Help You:
Check your minimum wage for your state and city. You might find a higher minimum wage in a nearby city.
Look to living in a lower cost of living area to stretch your money.
Find ways to minizine your basic expenses.
Thrive with a frugal green minimalist lifestyle.
Decide if a roommate or moving back with your parents would help.
Bike or walk to work.
In the next section, we will dig into ways to increase your income, but for now, you must focus on living on $14 an hour.
5 Ways to Increase Your Hourly Wage
This right here is the most important section of this post.
You need to figure out ways to increase your hourly income because I’m going to tell you…you deserve more. You do a good job and your value is higher than what your employers pay you.
Even an increase of 50 cents to $14.50 will add up over the year. Even better $15 an hour!
1. Ask for a Raise
The first thing to do is ask for a raise. Walk right in and ask for a raise because you never know what the answer will be until you ask.
If you want the best tips on how specifically to ask for a raise and what the average wage is for somebody doing your job, then check out this book. In this book, the author gives you the exact way to increase your income. The purchase is worth it or go down to the library and check that book out.
2. Look for A New Job
Another way to increase your hourly wage is to look for a new job. Maybe a completely new industry.
It might be a total change for you, but many times, if you want to change your financial situation, then that starts with a career change. Maybe you’re stressed out at work. Making $14 an hour is too much for you and you’re not able to enjoy life, maybe changing jobs and finding another job may increase your pay, but it will also increase your quality of life.
3. Find a New Career
Because of student loans, too many employees feel like they are stuck in the career field they chose. They feel sucked into the job that they don’t like or have the potential they thought it would.
For many years, I was in the same situation until I decided to do a complete career change. I am glad I did. I have the flexibility that I needed in my life to do what I wanted when I needed to do it. Plus I am able to enjoy my entrepreneurial spirit.
4. Find Alternative Ways to Make Money
In today’s society, you need to find ways to make more money. Period.
There is no way to get around it. You need to find additional income outside a traditional nine to five position or typical 40 hour a week job. You will reach a point where you are maxed on what you can make in your current position or title. There may be some advancement to move forward, but in many cases, there just is not much room for growth.
So, you need to find a side hustle – another way to make money.
Do something that you enjoy, turn your hobby into a way to make money, turn something that you naturally do, and help others into a service business. In today’s society, the sky is the limit on how you can earn a freelancing income.
5. Earn Passive Income
The last way to increase your hourly wage is to start earning passive income.
This can be from a variety of ways including the stock market, real estate, online courses, book sales, etc. This is where the differentiation between struggling financially and being financially sound happens.
By earning money passively, you are able to do the things that you enjoy doing and not be loaded down, with having a job that you need to work, and a place that you have to go to. And you still make money doing nothing.
Here is an example:
You can start a brokerage account and start trading stocks for $50. You need to learn and take the one and only investing class I recommend. Learn how the market works, watch videos, and practice in a simulator before you start using your own money.
One gentleman started with $5,000 in his trading account and now has well over $36,000 in a year. Just from practice and being consistent, he has learned that passive income is the way for him to increase his income and also not be a slave to his job.
Tips to Live on $14 an Hour
In this last section, grasp these tips on how to live on $14 an hour. On our site, you can find lots of money saving tips to help stretch your income further.
Here are the most important tips to live on $14 an hour. Highlight these!
1. Spend Less Than you Make
First, you must learn to spend less than you make.
If not you will be caught in the debt cycle and that is not where you want to be. You will be consistently living paycheck to paycheck.
In order to break that dreadful cycle, it means your expenses must be less than your income.
And when I say income, it’s not the $14 an hour. As we talked about earlier in the post, there are taxes. The amount of taxes taken out of your paycheck is called your net income which is your home $14 an hour minus all the taxes, FICA, social security, and medicare are taken out. That is your net income.
So, your net income has to be less than your net income.
2. Living Below Your Means
You need to be happy. And living on less can actually make you happier. Studies prove that less is better.
Finding contentment in life is one thing that is a struggle for most.
We are driven to want the new shiny toy, the thing next door, the stuff your friend or family member got. Our society has trained you that you need these things as well.
Have you ever taken a step back and looked at what you really need?
Once you are able to find contentment with life, then you are going to be set for the long term with your finances.
Here is our story on owning less stuff. We have been happier since.
3. Make Saving Money Fun
You need to make saving money fun. Period.
It could be participating in a no spend challenge for the month.
Check out the 200 envelope challenge (which is doable on your income)
It could be challenging friends not to go to Target for a week.
Maybe changing your habits and not picking up takeout and planning meals.
Whatever it is challenge yourself.
Find new ways of saving money and have fun with it.
Even better, get your family and kids involved in the challenge to save money. Tell them the reason why you are saving money and this is what you are doing.
Here are 101 things to do with no money. Free activities without costing you a dime. That is an amazing resource for you and you will never be bored.
And you will learn a lot of things in life you can do for free. Personally, some of the best ones are getting outside and enjoying some fresh air.

You need to be an advocate for yourself.

Whatever path you take, that’s fine. Just find ways to make more money. Period.
5. No State Taxes
Paying taxes is one option to increase what you take home in each paycheck.
These are the states that don’t pay state income taxes on wages:
Alaska
Florida
Nevada
New Hampshire
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Washington
Wyoming
It is very interesting if you take into account the amount of state taxes paid compared to a state with income taxes.
Also, if you live in one of the higher taxed states, then you may want to reconsider moving to a lower cost of living area. The higher taxes income tax states include California, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Minnesota, the District of Columbia, New York, Vermont, Iowa, and Wisconsin. These states tax income somewhere between 7.65% – 13.3%.
6. Stick to a Budget
You need to learn how to start a budget. We have tons budgeting resources for you.
While creating a budget is great, you need to learn how to use one.
You do not have to budget down to every last penny.
You need to make sure your expenses are less than your income and that you are creating sinking funds for those irregular expenses.

Unfortunately, that is how many of these companies make their money from the interest you pay on debt.
If you are paying 5% to even 20-21% or higher, you need to find ways to lower that debt quickly.
Here’s a debt calculator to help you. Figure out your debt free date.
Make that paying off debt fast is your target and main focus. I can tell you from personal experience, that it was not until week paid off our debt that we finally rounded the corner financially. Once our debt was paid off, we could finally be able to save money. Set money aside in separate bank accounts and pay for cash for things.

The average income in the U.S. is $48,672 for a 40-hour workweek; that is an increase of 4% from the previous year (source). That means if you take everyone’s income and divided the money evenly between all of the people.

$36000 a year is How Much an Hour?
When jumping from an hourly job to a salary for the first time, it is helpful to know how much is 36k a year hourly. That way you can decide whether or not the job is worthwhile for you.
36000 salary / 2080 hours = $17.31 per hour
$36000 a year is $17.31 per hour
Let’s breakdown how that 36000 salary to hourly number is calculated.
For our calculations to figure out how much is 36K salary hourly, we used the average five working days of 40 hours a week.
Typically, the average workweek is 40 hours and you can work 52 weeks a year. Take 40 hours times 52 weeks and that equals 2,080 working hours. Then, divide the yearly salary of $36000 by 2,080 working hours and the result is $17.31 per hour.
Just above $17 an hour.
That number is the gross hourly income before taxes, insurance, 401K, or anything else is taken out. Net income is how much you deposit into your bank account.
You must check with your employer on how they plan to pay you. For those on salary, typically companies pay on a monthly, semi-monthly, biweekly, or weekly basis.
What If I Increased My Salary?
Just an interesting note… if you were to increase your annual salary by $7K to $43K per year, it would increase your hourly wage to over $20 an hour – a difference of $3.36 per hour.
To break it down – 43k a year is how much an hour = $20.67
That difference will help you fund your savings account; just remember every dollar adds up.
How Much is $36K salary Per Month?
On average, the monthly amount would be $3,000.
Annual Salary of $36000 ÷ 12 months = $3000 per month
This is how much you make a month if you get paid 36000 a year.
$36k a year is how much a week?
This is a great number to know! How much do I make each week? When I roll out of bed and do my job of $36k salary a year, how much can I expect to make at the end of the week for my effort?
Once again, the assumption is 40 hours worked.
Annual Salary of$36000/52 weeks = $692 per week.
$36000 a year is how much biweekly?
For this calculation, take the average weekly pay of $692 and double it.
This depends on how many hours you work in a day. For this example, we are going to use an eight-hour workday.
8 hours x 52 weeks = 260 working days
Annual Salary of$36000 / 260 working days = $138 per day
If you work a 10 hour day on 208 days throughout the year, you make $173 per day.

36k a year is how much an hour after taxes
Income taxes is one of the biggest culprits of reducing your take-home pay as well as FICA and Social Security. This is a true fact across the board with an all-salary range up to $142,800.
When you make below the average household income, the amount of taxes taken out hurts your hourly wage.
Every single tax situation is different.
On the basic level, let’s assume a 12% federal tax rate and a 4% state rate. Plus a percentage is taken out for Social Security and Medicare (FICA) of 7.65%.
So, how much an hour is 36000 a year after taxes?
Gross Annual Salary: $36,000
Federal Taxes of 12%: $4,320
State Taxes of 4%: $1,440
Social Security and Medicare of 7.65%: $2,754
$36k Per Year After Taxes is $27,486
This would be your net annual salary after taxes.
To turn that back into an hourly wage, the assumption is working 2,080 hours.
$27486 ÷ 2,080 hours = $13.21 per hour
After estimated taxes and FICA, you are netting $27,486 per year, which is $8,514 per year less than what you expect.
***This is a very high-level example and can vary greatly depending on your personal situation and potential deductions. Therefore, here is a great tool to help you figure out how much your net paycheck would be.***
Taxes Based On Your State
In addition, if you live in a heavily taxed state like California or New York, then you have to pay way more money than somebody that lives in a no tax state like Texas or Florida. This is the debate of HCOL vs LCOL.
Thus, your yearly gross $36000 income can range from $24,606 to $28,926 depending on your state income taxes.
That is why it is important to realize the impact income taxes can have on your take home pay. It is one of those things that you should acknowledge and obviously you need to pay taxes. But, it can also put a huge dent in your ability to live the lifestyle you want on a $36,000 income.
How Much Is 36K A Year Hourly Salary Calculator
More than likely, your salary is not a flat 36k, here is a tool to convert salary to hourly calculator.
Many entry-level jobs start at this range, which may make you believe that a business degree is worth it.
36k salary lifestyle
Every person reading this post has a different upbringing and a different belief system about money. Therefore, what would be a lavish lifestyle to one person, maybe a frugal lifestyle to another person? And there’s no wrong or right, it is what works best for you.
One of the biggest factors to consider is your cost of living.
In another post, we detailed the differences of living in an HCOL vs LCOL vs MCOL area. When you live in big cities, trying to maintain your lifestyle of $36,000 a year is going to be extremely difficult because your basic expenses, housing, transportation, food, and clothing are going to be much more expensive than you would find in a lower cost area.
To stretch your dollar further in the high cost of living area, you would have to probably live a very frugal lifestyle and prioritize where you want to spend money and where you do not. Whereas, if you live in a low-cost of living area, you can afford the cost of living and maybe save more money. Thus, you have more fun spending left in your account each month.
As we noted earlier in the post, $36,000 a year is well below the average income that you would find in the United States. Thus, you have to be wise in how you spend your money.
What a $36,000 lifestyle will buy you:
If you are debt free and utilize smart money management skills, then you are able to enjoy the lifestyle you want.
You are able to rent in a decent neighborhood in LCOL.
Driving a beater car is normal.
You should be able to meet your basic expenses each and every month.
Not be able to afford many of the fun spending luxuries.
Ability to make sure that saving money is a priority, and very possibly save $5000 in one year.
When A $36,000 Salary Will Hold you Back:
However, if you are riddled with debt or unable to break the paycheck to paycheck cycle, then living off of 36k a year is going to be pretty darn difficult.
There are two factors that will keep holding you back:
You must pay off debt and cut all fun spending and extra expenses.

Is $36,000 a year a Good Salary?
As we stated earlier if you are able to make $36,000 a year, that is a low salary. You are making around or just above minimum wage.
While 36000 is a decent salary just starting out in your working years, it is a salary that you want to rapidly increase before your expenses go up or the people you provide for increase. If not, you will be left working multiple jobs to make ends meet.
However, too many times people get stuck in the lifestyle trap of trying to keep up with the Joneses, and their lifestyle desires get out of hand compared to their salary. And what they thought used to be a great salary actually is not making ends meet at this time.
This $36k salary would be considered a lower class salary. You must make each dollar count in your budget.
Check: Are you in the middle class?
In fact, this income level in the United States has enough buying power to put you in the top 95 percentile globally for per person income (source).
The question you need to ask yourself with your 36k salary is:
Am I maxed at the top of my career?
Is there more income potential?
What obstacles do I face if I want to try to increase my income?
In the future years and with possible inflation, in many modest cities 36,000 a year is not a good salary because the cost of living is so high, whereas these are some of the cities where you can make a decent living at 36000 per year.
If you are looking for a career change, you want to find jobs paying at least $45000 a year.
Is 36k a good salary for a Single Person?
Simply put, you can make it work.
You can stretch your salary much further because you are only worried about your own expenses. A single person will spend much less than if you need to provide for someone else.
Your living expenses and ideal budget are much less. Thus, you can live comfortably for $36000 per year.
And… most of us probably regret how much money wasted when we were single. Oh well, lesson learned.
Is 36k a good salary for a family?
Many of the same principles apply above on whether $36000 is a good salary. The main difference with a family, you have more people to provide for than when you are single or have just one other person in your household.
At the 36K salary with a family, you would need more than one income stream to make this possible without government help.
The costs of raising children are high and will steeply cut into your income. As you can tell this is a huge dent in your income, specifically $12,980 annually per child and this does not include college.
That means that amount of money is coming out of the income that you earned.
So, the question really remains can you provide a good life for your family making $36,000 a year? This is the hardest part because each family has different choices, priorities, and values.
More or less, it comes down to two things:
The location where you live in.
Desire to improve your career and make more money.
Your lifestyle choices.
You will not be able to afford everything on this salary.
Many times when raising a family, it is helpful to have a dual-income household. That way you are able to provide the necessary expenses if both parties were making 36,000 per year, then the combined income for the household would be $72,000. Thus making your combined salary a very good income.

Can you Live on 36000 Per Year?
As we outlined earlier in the post, $36000 a year:
$17.31 Per Hour
$138-173 Per Day (depending on the length of day worked)
$692 Per Week
$1384 Per Biweekly
$3000 Per Month
Next up is making $40,000 a year.
Like anything else in life, you get to decide how to spend, save and give your money.
That is the difference for each person on whether or not you can live a lower-class lifestyle depends on many potential factors. If you live in California or New Jersey you are gonna have a tougher time than Oklahoma or even Texas.
In addition, if you are early in your career, starting out around 32,000 a year, that is a okay place to be getting your career. However, if you have been in your career for over 20 years and still making $36K, then you probably need to look at asking for pay increases, pick up a second job, or find a different career path.
Regardless of the wage that you make, if you are not able to live the lifestyle that you want, then you have to find ways to make it work for you. Everybody has choices to make.
But one of the things that can help you the most is to stick to our ideal household budget percentages to make sure you stay on track.

Tips for finding a career you love
When you’re looking for work, it’s important to remember that there are many different ways of making a living. You can be an artist or designer in your own home studio, or run your own business. The key is to figure out what your interests are, and then find a way to use those skills in the work you love doing.
The goal of this article is not just to help you find a job that pays the bills, but to help you find work that is satisfying, meaningful, and fun.
Here are some tips to keep in mind as you go through the process of figuring out what you want to do with your life.
#1 – Focus on You
Don’t listen to people who tell you that you should do one thing. If your parents want to see you be a doctor, or if your friends think it’s important for you to have a “real” job, you might be tempted to listen to them.
Don’t let anyone else tell you what your passion is, or how you should spend your life.
Determine what’s important for YOU!
As you go through the process of figuring out what to do with your life, keep in mind that there are many different ways to live a happy and fulfilling life. You don’t have to be a doctor to help other people. You don’t have to work in an office all day, every day.
Do what you love and the money will follow.
If you do something that you love, you will never have to work a day in your life. If you do what you love, and are good at it, people will pay for that service or product.
Do what makes YOU happy. If you’re not happy, no one else will be either.
Don’t let anyone tell you what to do with your life. You should never have to justify your decisions or choices to anyone. You are the only one who has to live with your decisions and choices.
Do what you want, not what other people want for you or think that you should do. Period.
#2 – Identify What Interests You & Makes You Tick
There are a variety of ways you can go about finding out what interests you. You can read books and articles on different topics, talk to people with various careers, or take online quizzes and assessments – like this what should I do for a living quiz.
The first step to finding the right career for you is to identify what interests you intellectually.
What fascinates you?
What makes you feel like you are not working?
How do you want to spend your free time?
Once you know what fascinates you, the next step is to figure out how you can turn this into a career. Then, pursue your career interests relentlessly so you can reach your full potential.
#3 – Uncover your Strengths
Identifying your strengths is the key to finding opportunities that will be a good fit for you and enable you to reach your full potential.
Here are some things to take note of:
Pay attention to what you enjoy doing.
Notice when you feel most energized and engaged.
Consider what you do well naturally.
Reflect on feedback you’ve received from others.
Ask yourself how you can use your strengths more often in your current role or situation.
Once you know what they are, make sure to pursue opportunities that are based on them. This will help you stay focused and motivated in your work and life.
#4 – Match Your Values With Your Interests
Your values are the things that are most important to you in life. They guide your decisions and actions. They direct you to live a life that is meaningful to you.
There are many ways to identify your values. One way is to think about what is most important to you in different areas of your life, such as your relationships, work, leisure activities, and so on. Another way is to think about what you would like people to say about you when you are no longer here. What do you want them to remember about you?
Once you have identified your values, it can be helpful to write them down or share them with someone who will support and encourage you in living according to them.
When you link your values and interests together, it creates a powerful combination that can help you to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
When you know what is important to you (values) and what makes you happy and excited (interests), it becomes much easier to make decisions about how to spend your time and energy.
For example, let’s say one of your values is “family” and one of your interests is “cooking”. You could combine these by cooking meals for your family members or friends. Not only would this be enjoyable for you (because it aligns with your interest in cooking), but it would also be meaningful because it would be an act of love and care for those closest to you (which aligns with the value of family).
#5 – Consider your Lifestyle
Are you okay living below your means? Or do you prefer to flash your cash?
If you tend to spend money frivolously or struggle with saving money, then you need to be a high-worth earner. If you are okay living stingy, then a modest salary will probably work for you.
Keep in mind your lifestyle and what would be the best fit for you.
Consider if the hours are flexible, if you’d have time for hobbies and other interests, and how the commute looks. Sometimes rethinking your opportunities can give you a better perspective on what’s truly important to you.
Other Questions to Ponder:
Do you want a job that will consume most of your time?
Do you want a job where you can have a good work-life balance?
Are you okay with being tied to one location or have the flexibility to move around?
Are you willing to travel for work? If so, how often and how far?
What are your salary expectations? Are you looking for health benefits, paid vacation, or other perks?
Ultimately, there are many factors going into your decision. When considering a new potential career opportunity, it’s important to think about more than just the paper qualifications and the salary.
#6 – Spend Time Doing your Research
The best way to find a career you love is to first figure out what it is that you’re passionate about. What are the things that make you excited to get out of bed in the morning? Once you know what your passions are, research careers that align with those interests.
This just doesn’t happen overnight.
In fact, I recently went back to something of interest to me years ago because it would provide the time freedom I desired.
Spend time doing your research and following all the steps we cover in this post.
#7 – Find a career that matches your skills and interests
It can be difficult to identify what you want to do with your life, especially if you’re feeling lost or uncertain.
However, once you’ve identified what areas of interest might suit your skillset, try to link these interests with some type of career options.
Consider how your interests would fit into potential careers before choosing one.
It’s important to consider how your unique passions would fit into certain occupations or fields of work before choosing one. This will help you find a career that is satisfying and fulfilling. Consider the skills and interests you have and search for job openings that match them.
Start by researching the field you’re interested in.
# 8 – Talk to people in the field
There are a few ways to find people to talk to about your career interests. You can start by talking to friends and family members who might know someone in the field you’re interested in. You can also look for professional organizations related to your field of interest, or search for networking events in your area.
When you’re talking to someone about their career, it’s important to ask questions that will help you learn more about the field and whether it’s a good fit for you. Some questions you might want to ask include:
What does a typical day look like?
What is the most challenging part of the job?
What are the biggest rewards of the job?
These people will have better insights than what you can find searching the internet.
#9 – Get experience in the field
Oh, I cannot tell you how important this step is!
You have heard a similar story… my son dreamed of being an engineer and we planned to send him to engineering school. After his internship, the thought of being an engineer sucked the life out of him. Glad we learned this lesson before we spend money on his college education.
That is why I believe schools like this are so important to get real-life experience doing what you think you want to do for a living.
Consider internships or volunteer work to get your foot in the door.
Gaining experience can help you learn more about a particular field or company, and whether or not it’s the right fit for you.
#10 – Be open to change
Here are some things to keep in mind with change.
1. Change can lead to new opportunities: When you’re open to change, you’re also open to new opportunities. Embracing change can help you find a new job, start a business, or even move to a new city.
2. Change can help you grow: Personal growth is important for a fulfilling life. Change can challenge you and push you out of your comfort zone, leading to personal growth.
3. Change can be exciting: If you’re bored with your current situation, change can be exciting. It’s a chance to start fresh and experience something new.
4. Change can be positive: Even if it’s difficult, change can ultimately be positive. It can lead to improved relationships, increased happiness, and a better life overall.”
